Despite making a last-minute Reservation the day before, we received heartfelt hospitality and thoughtful attention, and were able to relax and truly unwind. Not only were the Room and meals wonderful, but the Onsen was exceptional as well, helping us forget our everyday fatigue and feel refreshed in both body and mind. Throughout our stay, we could feel the Ryokan team’s spirit of hospitality in every detail, which made us very happy. Thanks to you, it became a memorable and wonderful trip. We would love to visit again in a different season and see everyone again. We look forward to staying with you then.

We stayed to celebrate my husband’s birthday. When I called to request a message on the dessert plate at dinner, they prepared an adorable message and even gave us a gift when we left. We stayed in the detached Room “Azami,” and both the wonderful open-air bath where we could hear the river murmuring and the Room itself were excellent. We would definitely like to stay again. Thank you very much.

    Highly Rated Accommodation

The meals were delicious, and it was a very satisfying, homey Accommodation. However, this may vary by person, but the bed mattress was too soft for us. Other than that, everything was great, so next time we would like to stay in a different Room.

I had a wonderful time at this Ryokan. Everything exceeded my expectations, and I was very satisfied. In particular, the private Onsen, the delicious high-quality meals, and the warm hospitality of all the staff left a strong impression. Thanks to every thoughtful touch, I was able to truly relax and enjoy a memorable stay. I would definitely like to stay again. Thank you very much.

It was my first stay here in a while. The calm Room and furnishings, delicious meals, the open-air bath by the riverbed, and the indoor bath available at any time were all very comfortable for a relaxing stay. The salt-grilled ayu was also outstanding. We were able to see fireflies as well, and truly enjoyed early summer. I was glad to see that your mother seemed to be doing well.

We had a wonderful, refreshing stay surrounded by lush greenery.

This was my second stay. Just like last time, I stayed in the detached Azami. Soaking in the Onsen while listening to the river murmuring amid fresh greenery was wonderfully relaxing. I also used the private bath in the main building. It was beautifully maintained, and bathing while looking out at the mountain covered in vibrant new leaves right in front of me felt amazing. Both baths left my skin silky smooth. Another highlight here is the food. The gentle, softly seasoned dishes that bring out the natural flavors of the ingredients are truly delicious. This time I ordered à la carte, and everything looked so good that I added a sashimi platter and a cheese platter—definitely the right choice. I’d love to come back again someday!

    We had a relaxing stay.

I requested the Shuttle Service, and although many Ryokan staff were at the station, I was happy that you were waiting right by the ticket gates as soon as I came out. Even though I arrived early, you showed me to my Room right away. On the day, I was told you were fully booked, but I was able to use the private Onsen five times without running into anyone. The Onsen temperature was just right, and the view from the open-air bath in particular was wonderful and very relaxing. The fresh mountain greenery and air were also soothing. The food was delicious as well. Thank you for making my stay so comfortable.

    Comfortable Accommodation

It was a relaxing, quiet, and comfortable adults-only Accommodation. Thanks to the wonderful hospitality of the staff, the comfort of the Room, and above all the Onsen with no added water, delicious meals, and the laid-back atmosphere throughout the property, I felt truly refreshed. The only slight disappointments were that there was a lot of food—I would have appreciated being asked in advance about my preferred portion size—and that the lock on the outdoor open-air bath wouldn’t latch, so I couldn’t fully relax because I was worried someone might come in. It’s an Accommodation I want to keep supporting and would love to visit again.

We thoroughly enjoyed the Onsen at a relaxed pace.

Although there were signs of spring, the weather was still quite chilly when I visited Yuno Yado Joetsukan, an Accommodation with consistently high Review ratings. They have a Room set up for women traveling solo, and I was able to relax and take it easy. By chance there were few guests, so I could use the two private baths as much as I liked, as well as the separate bath with an open-air bath—wonderful hot springs. I was also soothed by the warm hospitality and thoughtful care from everyone at the Accommodation. I could tell the meals were prepared with great effort, but to enjoy a truly out-of-the-ordinary experience, I felt they might be a bit too home-style. Is it being greedy to wish for a little more sense of something special? Still, it was more than made up for by how comfortable everything felt. I would like to visit again during firefly season along the Tone River embankment.

    Hospitality: I’d say...

Hospitality: I’d say it’s among the best of many Ryokan. However, a few last-minute requests were not passed on to other staff, so with only four rooms (unlike a large Ryokan), I would expect faster information sharing. Room: The furnishings were high quality and very nice. A small point, but the air conditioner had the confirmation beep turned off, so it was hard to tell whether the signal was being received. Also, at this price range, it would have been nice to have a coffee machine in the Room (there is one in the lobby). Meals: Very satisfied with both quality and portion size. The homemade desserts in particular were excellent. The raclette Plan felt more like a BBQ and didn’t quite match the Ryokan atmosphere or the other dishes. Baths: There is no in-room bath; the indoor bath is private-use and you lock it yourself. With so few rooms, I don’t think this will be inconvenient. The open-air bath requires a time Reservation and is located in an annex about a 2-minute walk from the Ryokan. At night, the star-filled sky was amazing. Note that there is no washing area there.

We were extremely satisfied with our trip.

We stayed in February because my son wanted to play in the snow and enjoy an Onsen. The Room was spacious and relaxing. With the large window, we enjoyed views of the Tone River right in front of us, the night sky, and the Joetsu Line trains passing by from time to time. My son was delighted with the kotatsu, which we don’t have at home. The meals were also excellent. We truly enjoyed the recommended sake as well. I also wanted to try the cheese and wine I saw on your website, but we were too full and had to pass (lol). I found the Tochio-age you told us about at a nearby shop, so I’ve been buying it often lately. I was looking forward to a snowy open-air bath view, but since it was still light out and felt a bit open, I used only the footbath as a woman. My son and husband seemed to enjoy it, so I’m glad they could relax. We were able to do our long-awaited snow play, enjoy delicious meals, relax in a comfortable Room, and everyone at the Ryokan was very kind—making it a truly wonderful trip. My son uses the mug cup we received as a souvenir all the time. Thank you very much.

    Snow-viewing bath

The open-air bath located a short distance away was wonderful as light powdery snow fell. I rarely get to walk on snowy paths, so it was a fun experience. On the way back from the bath, we were treated to delicious tea and sweets, and we were able to relax while enjoying the snowy scenery. The Room had a sunken kotatsu table, which kept us warm and comfortable. We could also order additional dishes, so it was great to choose what we wanted to eat. The fresh yuba and cheese were especially delicious. Above all, the staff at the Accommodation were very welcoming, and I felt soothed by the flowers displayed throughout the Accommodation. Thank you very much. Next time, I would like to visit when fresh greenery is out and fireflies are dancing. Just one thing: I was slightly bothered by the sound of the air conditioner near the Room entrance.

    It was a wonderful Ryokan.

Every detail was thoughtfully attended to, making my stay very pleasant. When heading to the outdoor bath as snow lightly fell, boots and coats were thoughtfully prepared. The meals were delicious and more than enough to satisfy. I will definitely visit again!

    Dinner was disappointing.

As mentioned in previous reviews, the insistence on a one-plate style felt overly rigid, making it seem modest for the price. Popcorn was served as a side... Despite the cold weather, 80% of the dishes were served cold, which was disappointing. The open-air bath was described as adjacent but wasn't; you have to walk to reach it.

This accommodation had been on my mind for a long time. It is just an hour from Ueno by bullet train, and the room features an open-air hot spring bath with natural flowing water, as well as a sunken kotatsu in the living area. The spacious open-air bath and the private bath in the room were at a perfect temperature with deep tubs that allowed full immersion up to the shoulders, providing a wonderfully warming experience that I enjoyed multiple times. The meals were served with carefully chosen tableware that complemented the dishes. The flavors were mild on salt, emphasizing the natural taste of ingredients, offering comforting and delicious cuisine. I was also delighted to find coffee cups and teacups similar to those I use at home, which made me feel a personal connection. The almond biscotti served with plum nectar in the post-bath relaxation lounge was incredibly delicious. Although it was still in its trial phase and not available for purchase as souvenirs this time, I look forward to being able to take some home during my next visit!

Thank you for your continued support.

This was my third stay. As I usually travel alone, I always choose the Yamabuki Room, but this time I stayed in the Odamaki Room. It was a calm and relaxing Japanese-style room. As always, the cuisine was exceptional, with each dish carefully crafted and filling. Everyone is truly kind, making me feel like I'm returning to my family home! I'll visit again.

The meals were delicious, and we had a relaxing time.

Stayed in the Azami room with an open-air Onsen bath. The interior was well-maintained and very comfortable. The private bath in the room is surrounded by trees, allowing for a relaxing and peaceful soak, which felt amazing. Meals were served in a private dining room at the main building. The variety of intricate dishes was surprising, and everything tasted delicious. With only a few rooms available, we didn’t encounter other guests during meals, making it a tranquil experience. The warmth of the staff, including the owner, made this Ryokan truly exceptional.

    Lovely Accommodation

The dishes allowed us to fully savor autumn and were visually delightful. Each item in the appetizer selection beautifully captured the essence of the season. The main meat dish was quite heavy and served in a large portion, so it would be appreciated if the latter courses could be reconsidered slightly.

It was an accommodation perfect for a solo female traveler.

I often travel alone to various Onsen, but this was my first time experiencing a Room Plan exclusively for solo female travelers. The amenities were well-prepared, and the cleanliness of the toilet and bed made it feel very comfortable as a women-only room. Although I initially chose a meal-in-room Plan, the table was slightly small for dinner, so I appreciated being guided to a private dining room instead. The meals were served on one plate as they were designed for in-room dining; while each dish was delicious, it felt less satisfying compared to having dishes served individually. Having cheese appetizers and sashimi on the same plate felt slightly odd. It was clearly stated that this setup minimizes staff entering the room, but I think offering more meal options even in solo female Plans would be nice. The main dish of salt-grilled sweetfish (ayu) was exceptional. For breakfast, which I had in my Room, the hot sandwich with plenty of salad and soup was delightful, and I loved the pot service for tea. The Onsen experience was wonderful as both outdoor baths and indoor baths could be reserved privately—allowing me to relax without worrying about others. Additionally, the towels provided in the changing area were incredibly soft and pleasant; I've never used such comfortable towels before—it left quite an impression! Since I prefer lower temperatures for bathing, it was unfortunate that the outdoor bath's temperature felt too high for me to stay long; however, one of two indoor baths with an openable window had slightly cooler water which suited me perfectly. On my way to the outdoor bath area, there was a self-service café where cold tea and cookies were available—I enjoyed relaxing there on a massage chair afterward. It surprised me that even though paid drinks/snacks were available at this unmanned café under an honor system—it showed great trust in guests! As someone who doesn't drink coffee much myself though—I thought having tea bags available might be appreciated by fellow tea lovers. From arrival until departure day—the hospitality shown by staff members made everything seamless & refreshing throughout my stay! Lastly receiving souvenirs through IKYU benefits added extra joy during checkout moments too!

Enjoy exclusive views of the Tone River's flow and the lush green mountains. Truly a luxurious experience...

What first attracted me to Joetsukan was the atmosphere of the accommodation, perfectly in harmony with nature. Since it’s quite difficult to secure a reservation, I felt incredibly lucky to have had the chance to visit this time. As soon as I arrived, I knew it was absolutely the right choice. From both the room and the open-air bath, you can enjoy exclusive views of the Tone River's flow and majestic green mountains. It was so peaceful that I found myself completely relaxed and lost in thought (and that’s meant as high praise). The impeccable hospitality throughout every detail is simply outstanding. It’s easy to see why this accommodation has been cherished for over 70 years. Although I arrived feeling a bit tired, I left completely refreshed. Personally, I'm a big fan of Minakami area and have visited many times before—but now I'm even more enamored with it! The seasonal dishes featuring char fish and Japanese pepper were paired perfectly with wine; everything was absolutely delicious! However, one small note: The portions felt quite generous even for an average 35-year-old male like myself. For elderly guests or those with smaller appetites, consulting in advance for adjustments might be a good idea.

I had the best refreshing time.

I gifted my mother a stay here to celebrate her 60th birthday. Since she cannot drive, the shuttle service to Jomo-Kogen Station was incredibly helpful. She mentioned that the accommodation was very considerate in many aspects, making her stay extremely comfortable. The open-air bath surrounded by nature and the beautiful interior of the room left a particularly strong impression on her. As for the meals, she enjoyed dishes made with a variety of ingredients, and having them served in the room allowed for an even more relaxing experience. I’m truly glad I chose this accommodation. If given the chance, I would love to visit myself someday.

    Comfortable Accommodation

A cozy and comfortable accommodation run by a dedicated family with a history of 70 years. We stayed here seeking the fresh greenery, and the view from the room showcased mountains in shades of light green, green, and deep green. The meandering valley in the foreground added to its charm. The two guest rooms are neatly arranged, with stylish ceiling lights resembling spherical flower petals. The two private indoor baths adjacent to the rooms are perfectly sized for small families and offer a refreshing bathing experience. The handwritten signs indicating availability or occupancy add a nice touch. The meals blend Japanese cuisine with Western influences, such as appetizers featuring cheese. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious but served in generous portions; we ended up leaving almost one dish uneaten each time. Perhaps offering slightly smaller meal options by reducing appetizer varieties/quantities or omitting one course could be considered. The casual conversation we had with the family upon departure also left a warm impression on us.

We thoroughly enjoyed both the meals and the Onsen, allowing us to relax at our own pace! The Onsen being entirely private made it possible to soak in complete comfort. Repeat booking done.

I visited for the first time, drawn by IKYU's high ratings. I was convinced. The property is kept very clean everywhere, with warm staff, a private bath you can relax in, an open-air bath with a spectacular view, and delicious meals that are well thought out. It truly felt comfortable and made me want to stay forever; it has become one of my favorite properties. The bed in the room is on a slightly elevated platform, so when I went to the bathroom at night, I almost tripped (I had fallen due to steps at another property before). For this reason, I rated the room four stars. But it's something that can be managed with caution. Someone mentioned it in their review as well. I'd like to visit again in different seasons and try staying in other rooms too. Thank you very much for this time.

I was able to enjoy a relaxing stay.

I chose Joetsukan for its easy access from Tokyo, availability of the Shinkansen, and the shuttle service from the station. Joetsukan offers a ladies' room, which made me feel welcomed as a solo female traveler. Enjoying dinner and breakfast in the room was also a key point. Regarding meals, I requested an adjustment in portion size beforehand, and they kindly accommodated my request. The meals were not the typical kaiseki style often found in a ryokan, but rather a style where you can choose the main dish, and everything was very delicious. Additionally, there are cafes around the property where I enjoyed delicious coffee and sweets. (Since they are unmanned, it's good to know in advance that they are self-service.) As for the onsen, I used both the indoor and outdoor baths. The view from the outdoor bath was particularly wonderful, and bathing in the morning while it was snowing was a special experience. (I was worried about the cold, but my body warmed up quickly, and I was comfortable.) I usually stay at hotels, and I had some concerns about traveling alone to an onsen, but all my worries were unfounded, and it turned out to be a truly relaxing stay. The staff at the property were kind and provided hospitality that made me want to visit again. The quiet environment, where I didn't encounter other guests, allowed for a peaceful stay. I highly recommend this property to solo female travelers.

A Heartwarming Stay at "Yuno Stays Joetsukan"

Congratulations on your 20th anniversary. The Onsen with natural hot spring water and the open-air bath were both wonderful, allowing us to spend a truly relaxing time. The food was also very delicious, but it was a bit too much for us elderly people, which was a bit disappointing. It was my own fault for choosing the shoulder loin beef course, but it would have been even better if you could have considered our request for quality over quantity.

    Thank you for your patronage.

I stayed alone, but I was fortunate to be assisted by a very pleasant female staff member, making it a relaxing stay. Regarding the cuisine, I felt a bit disappointed as I wished for a more unique experience that reflects the location, including why this particular dish is served here and the pairing with alcohol. Nevertheless, it was a very comfortable onsen property, and I had a great time. Thank you very much.
