    Thank you for 25 years of support.

    It has been a quarter-century since my first visit. This year, I visited once during the fresh green season and now again in early autumn. As I entered the building, the familiar scent of incense greeted me... it made me happy to be back again. The seasonal cuisine and the always-comfortable atmosphere make me want to return again and again. The view from the Room cleanses my heart every time I visit. It has become natural for me now, but I am truly grateful to all the staff members (including those in the kitchen whom I couldn't greet personally, cleaning staff, and everyone working behind the scenes). Thanks to their efforts, I feel that a quarter-century of history, elegance, and tradition have been built here. This time, although separate from Fujii-soh itself, I visited nearby Yamada Ranch hoping to see the Milky Way—and was rewarded with a sky full of stars (it was worth holding back on alcohol during dinner!). I would be delighted if we could hear koto music like in old times. Living in Tokyo now makes frequent visits difficult; however, I'll definitely come back again soon—thank you as always!

    Embodiment of "Learning from the Past to Innovate for the Future"

    A "Sukiya-style" room, crafted with the artistry of now-rare artisans. Simple yet imbued with beauty in every detail, providing a comfortable stay. The dedication to preserving and cherishing this tradition is truly admirable. This accommodation perfectly embodies the spirit of "learning from the past to innovate for the future." Everything was flawless. Highly recommended and a place I would definitely visit again.

    Improved plumbing facilities

    I visited after decades. I saw on the website that there were rooms renovated into bedrooms with beds, so I reserved one of those rooms. As before, the hospitality at the reception and welcome, as well as the view from the lobby, were still wonderful. However, my overall satisfaction decreased due to the outdated water facilities in the room. Although the reserved room's bedroom was renovated, upon entering, I noticed that the Western-style area appeared dark and old-fashioned. Additionally, both the toilet and sink remained unchanged from before. What was particularly disappointing was that near the dining area, out of three toilets available, two were Japanese-style. When I needed to use them, one Western-style toilet was already occupied; since I couldn't use a Japanese-style toilet comfortably, I had no choice but to wait. Nowadays, there may be very few people who prefer using Japanese-style toilets voluntarily. It is unfortunate that despite such excellent hospitality from your staff members, impressions of outdated water facilities diminish overall satisfaction entirely.

    Repeat visits welcome.

    This accommodation had been on my radar for a while through IKYU.com. I finally had the chance to stay, and in one word, it was outstanding. Upon arrival, I was greeted with matcha tea and sweets in the lobby. Right in front of my seat was a breathtaking view through large open windows. The scenery left me speechless, and I found myself frequently returning to the lobby during my stay, losing track of time. The entire facility was impeccably clean, and the high level of hospitality was evident throughout. As expected from such an exceptional accommodation, the meals were both delicious and beautifully presented. I look forward to visiting again during another season. However, there was one disappointment: it seemed that the Diamond Member benefits were overlooked? Of course, I'm aware that not all accommodations offer Diamond Member benefits and that being a Diamond Member is a condition at the time of reservation. In this case, I confirmed both my status as a Diamond Member during booking as well as that this accommodation offered such benefits before completing the reservation. Unfortunately, it wasn't until after returning home that I remembered this oversight—had I recalled earlier at checkout, I could have addressed it directly then. At other accommodations I've stayed at via IKYU.com before now, staff would proactively mention "As you are an IKYU Diamond Member..." without me needing to bring it up myself. This felt uncharacteristic for Fujii-so's otherwise attentive service—or perhaps there may have been an information error on IKYU.com's part? Since part of why I choose IKYU over other platforms is due to its exclusive perks for Diamond Members like myself when making reservations available elsewhere too—I hope this can be improved moving forward!

    A traditional Ryokan with a rich sense of history

    Stay near Nagano City to Escape the Heat This year’s intense heat makes air conditioning essential even in high-altitude areas during the day, but at night, it cools down enough to sleep comfortably with a light blanket. The highlight of this Ryokan is undoubtedly the stunning view from the large windows on the mountain-facing side of the first floor (open on clear days). This historic establishment has even hosted prestigious Shogi tournaments. Incidentally, Fujii Ryuo won one such tournament here—a remarkable coincidence! The rooms are charming with their traditional verandas, though you may notice some signs of age as they have been renovated from older designs. The cuisine is exceptional and pairs wonderfully with delicious sake for an enjoyable dining experience. The large public bath is also impressive, and there’s a walking path leading down to the riverside for added enjoyment within the Ryokan grounds. Don’t miss out on reserving their famous Onsen Manju on the same day!

    I visited with a fri...

    I visited with a friend on our trip. My friend was visiting Japan after a long time, and for me, it was a rare break from being a mother and wife. My expectations for the accommodation were very high, but Fujii-so far exceeded them effortlessly. The bath, the room, the meals, and the heartfelt hospitality were all exceptional. I felt truly rejuvenated and gained so much energy for tomorrow. It was a journey during the season when cicadas sing and vibrant summer greenery is beautiful. Next time, I would love to visit to enjoy the autumn, winter, or spring scenery as well.

    Good Accommodation

    It was a wonderful accommodation. The breathtaking view that feels as if you are immersed in the mountains, the attentive service from the staff, excellent hot springs, meticulous cleanliness, and the gentle and delicious dishes made with plenty of vegetables... It made for an enjoyable trip. Thank you very much. The only downside is its distance. I will definitely use it again.

    Enjoy with all five senses

    We chose the renowned Fujii-so for a trip to show appreciation for my husband's hard work. The glass windows in the lobby can be opened, allowing guests to enjoy the natural breeze, sounds of insects, and mountain views. Soft music plays throughout the facility, creating a luxurious atmosphere. The meals were exceptionally delicious, and all staff members provided top-notch service. This accommodation is perfect for special occasions. We had an incredibly satisfying trip!

    It was my first experience.

    The historic building is stunning, with a unified beauty that goes beyond its age, including the furnishings. The service provided by the flawless staff was exceptional, and the meals were absolutely outstanding. While you can experience wonderful Hotels or Ryokans anywhere, this was my first time feeling like I became part of the space itself.

    Accommodation with attentive service

    Stayed for one night in August 2025 with the <Plan to Enjoy Shinshu Local Cuisine in a Private Room>. I usually don't write reviews, but the service was truly exceptional, so I felt compelled to share my experience. The staff member who attended to us was young but very attentive. During dinner, we casually mentioned our plans for the next day, and later they kindly brought us guides and information about the area we had discussed. Despite the unfortunate rain, they held an umbrella for us until we got into our car—a level of care rarely seen at other accommodations. The meals were thoughtfully prepared with great attention to detail, and every dish was delicious. All of the staff were incredibly considerate and attentive, making it clear why this accommodation has been cherished by many notable guests over the years. I would love to visit again next time. Thank you very much!

    Accommodation after 7 years

    This time, I stayed again for a visit to Nagano Zenkoji Temple. The Onsen surrounded by nature offered an unchanged and stunning view. The Ponpon hot pot was delicious.

    Reduced dinner menu items

    Stayed for the first time in March and revisited in August as my mother loved it. The breathtaking views from the lobby and bath, along with the lush greenery, are truly soothing. Regarding dinner, there were fewer dishes compared to last time. It was disappointing that the main dish (steak last time) was no longer available. Not sure if it was due to a different reservation plan, but it felt a bit lacking. However, the food is very delicious. The courteous service is also satisfying.

    A luxurious Ryokan that lets you feel its elegance from start to finish.

    60 years ago, Yamada Onsen was remembered only as a bus terminal. After 60 years, I decided to visit again upon hearing it is the best accommodation in Yamada Onsen. A matcha welcome drink was served in the lounge, with a pleasant view of greenery and refreshing breeze. The room I stayed in was the same one where Shogi player Mr. Fujii once stayed. The service was exceptional, with the same staff member attending to us from start to finish. Their voice left a beautiful and lasting impression on me. Both breakfast and dinner were innovative Japanese cuisine with a wide variety of dishes showcasing skilled craftsmanship. Although the onsen water wasn't free-flowing but carefully managed, there were no complaints about bathing quality. This is truly an outstanding ryokan that exudes luxury from beginning to end. It’s no surprise that Go and Shogi matches are held here—it’s absolutely fitting for such an elegant place!

    Overall, it was a highly satisfying stay.

    The staff provided exceptionally courteous service and offered precise advice on transportation and nearby sightseeing tailored to our itinerary, which was incredibly helpful. At the entrance to the walking trails, insect repellent spray and bear bells were thoughtfully provided, allowing us to explore nature with peace of mind. The view from the lobby and the cozy atmosphere of the lounge made it a space where we wanted to stay longer. The meals were delicious, and we look forward to visiting again during the autumn foliage season.

    A wonderful accommodation with a calm atmosphere

    This accommodation hosted the prestigious Shogi Meijin Tournament. The breathtaking view from the accommodation is truly remarkable. The atmosphere of the accommodation is very calming. The meals were delicious, and the onsen was excellent. The view outside the room is stunning, and sitting on a chair makes you lose track of time. All staff members provided exceptional service. I would love to visit again in winter if I have the chance.

    Perfect hospitality

    First of all, the service was excellent. The view from the lobby was breathtaking, and the Room was very comfortable. The meals were delicious; not only dinner but even breakfast, which I ate without much appetite, ended up being so tasty that I finished it all. It would have been nice to have more variety in the baths, but overall it was a wonderful trip that made me feel truly luxurious.

    The greenery was exceptionally vibrant and beautiful after the rain, and the fresh breeze and lush scenery flowing through the wide-open windows embraced us generously. The fragrant incense added to the welcoming atmosphere. We had a relaxing stay at this wonderfully attentive accommodation. One request would be to improve transportation for guests without cars. A shuttle service to the nearest station would be greatly appreciated. Another minor disappointment was receiving local vegetables as a Diamond Member benefit; while thoughtful, items like cabbage and cucumbers are too heavy for elderly guests to carry home easily. A bit more consideration in this regard would be appreciated.

    Accommodation to visit in every season.

    Stayed at the accommodation after a year. The meals were delicious, and the staff provided plenty of seasonal sightseeing information that wasn't available online, so I quickly visited those spots! Last year, I couldn't access the walking trails due to bear sightings, but this time they were open. The forest bathing was so refreshing that I went twice! The room I stayed in was scheduled for renovation starting the next day. Looking forward to enjoying that room again in autumn!

    Always enjoy a comfortable stay.

    Conveniently located with good access to tourist spots like Obuse and Zenkoji, we use this place about once every year and a half as my wife loves it. The entire facility is comfortable, but the view from the lobby lounge is particularly soothing. The meals are delicious, and the staff's hospitality makes us feel we receive service beyond its price. The only drawback is that the Onsen in-house is not sourced directly from a natural spring, but there’s a free-flowing natural Onsen called "Oyu" just a 3-minute walk away that can be used for free as many times as you like. During this stay, I visited Oyu before dinner and breakfast. Oyu has great ambiance and water quality; however, it closes at 8 PM, so it's slightly disappointing that you can't enjoy it after dinner. (Note: The in-house Onsen is well-maintained, uncrowded, offers great views from the open-air bath, and provides a satisfying experience unless you're specifically seeking natural spring water.)

    A Hidden Gem Accommodation

    Used for a trip with my mother. While planning to visit a nearby waterfall after the Zenkoji Temple, I was surprised to find such a luxurious Ryokan in this area. Intrigued, I decided to stay here this time. The view from the large windows of the lobby lounge was breathtaking, and it was nice to relax during our stay with self-service coffee and bean tea available—not just at check-in. (I also managed to take some lovely photos.) The staff member who assisted us was very polite and even prepared materials based on our plans for the next day, sharing their personal recommendations as well. (We tried the Mont Blanc at Kusunoki Terrace!) The meals were delightful, featuring seasonal local ingredients that appealed to all five senses. Thank you for accommodating my mother's dietary preferences by avoiding ingredients she dislikes—it made her experience even better. Although the public bath is not very large, it was impeccably clean and comfortable thanks to the limited number of guest rooms; we didn’t encounter other guests while using it. We chose a room with a moon-viewing veranda due to budget considerations but realized we would have preferred beds when sleeping—though we did enjoy relaxing on the veranda itself! The lush green mountains during early summer and soothing bird songs were truly healing. One disappointment was being unable to access the walking path leading down to the stream due to construction work—a detail that wasn’t mentioned on the reservation page.

    Hospitality of Our Staff

    On a day of spring's cold snap, the mountains covered in a light dusting of snow were incredibly beautiful. The warm hospitality from the staff throughout our stay was truly wonderful. Thank you very much. However, it was disappointing that we couldn't use the large bath due to construction (I really love the large bath). Also, it would have been nice to have some small snacks available at places where coffee or drinks are served, as we didn’t bring any food with us...

    It snowed on the day, and I enjoyed the open-air bath while admiring the silver world spread out before me. The excellence of the Room was, of course, remarkable, but the hospitality of the staff was truly outstanding. I will visit again in a different season.

    We stayed in the room with an open-air bath, Fuji. The spacious semi-open-air bath with a view of the snow was fantastic, and we used it four times in one night. The room was luxurious, and the bed was very comfortable. The meals were creatively prepared and enjoyable. Above all, the service from the staff was excellent. The recommended sightseeing information was very helpful.

    Wonderful!

    I visited during the snowy season. I checked in at the lobby with a breathtaking view in front of me. While having matcha, they kindly explained the facilities. The most impressive was the view from the Room and the meals. I didn't expect much seafood due to the Ryokan's location, but I was pleasantly surprised and enjoyed the delicious seasonal fatty yellowtail. The Room and bath were also very clean, and I used them comfortably. The staff was very kind, and I had a great time. At checkout, I was touched by the thoughtful gesture of warming my shoes. I would like to visit again in the beautiful green summer. Thank you very much.

    The service was cour...

    The service was courteous and warm. The space was spacious and very relaxing. The food was also very delicious. There was a super attendant who could answer any question immediately while providing attentive service, which was very impressive as it's rare to find such attendants these days. It happened to be a cold day, and a little snow accumulated on the car, but when we went out, the snow was neatly cleared. It was also nice that the shoes were warmed. I would like to visit again.

    Peace of mind

    I was impressed by the smart response at checkout. As expected. Starting with the cuisine, the facility, and the room decor, I deeply realized that this is what "attentiveness" means. For our family, it's a top-class ryokan that we are fortunate to visit once a year. Wanting to stay here again is a motivation that helps me work hard.

    Satisfaction

    I visited because I wanted to go to the property where Mr. Sota Fujii became a Meijin. I spent a good time in a good space. The service was good, but if you could be a little more mindful of "neither too close nor too distant," I think it would be even more comfortable. For me, the onsen water was too hot, and I couldn't take a long bath. If there was a private bath, it would be nice to be able to adjust the water temperature.
