Breathtaking Views
The lobby view is truly in a class of its own. It was disappointing that the hot towel was not provided promptly upon arrival. The Room was comfortable and very well cleaned. The bath also had towels and other amenities prepared, which I really appreciated. The male staff member who served our meals was highly professional, with excellent hospitality and perfectly timed conversation. His stories were enjoyable, and they made the delicious meal even more pleasant. Above all, I was truly happy to be able to enjoy matsutake mushrooms. This Ryokan will stay in my memory. I would love to visit again.

I had a very comfortable stay in a quiet environment.
This was my first stay in Yamada Onsen, chosen as a base for visiting Zenkoji Temple and Obuse. It was a quiet Onsen town far from the bustle of the city. The welcome was attentive, and the lush green valley visible through the large front-desk window was truly beautiful and soothing. I’m sure it must be wonderful during the autumn foliage season as well. The Room was spacious and very clean, and the cypress open-air bath was so comfortable that I used it many times. The meals offered plenty of variety and generous portions, all delicious. In particular, the steak had a perfect doneness with a rich, slightly sweet sauce that tasted great. The ponpon hot pot was also freshly fried and excellent. Overall, it’s a very quiet Ryokan where I could relax in complete comfort.

Family trip
We stayed here for a family trip during the Obon holidays. They kindly provided taxi pick-up and drop-off to Nagano Station, which was very helpful. The staff were attentive, and the facility was clean and pleasant, making our stay truly relaxing. The meals were also excellent. We would love to visit again in a different season. Thank you very much.

It was an Accommodation that made me want to support it.
This is a long-established Accommodation. Its location does not make rebuilding easy. The Rooms are primarily finished with hinoki cypress, and when you imagine the investment required at the time, it’s clear they have weathered major upheavals such as the Lehman shock and COVID. They are probably not operating with an abundance of spare capacity even now. With that in mind, here are the highlights: there are relatively few attendants assigned per guest, which results in attentive service. Alcoholic beverages are plentiful and reasonably priced. Overall satisfaction for the price is reliably high.

Wonderful Accommodation
It was perfect for a relaxing stay for the two of us as a couple. The bath was great, the meals were great, and the Room was great. Everything was thoroughly cleaned throughout, which made our stay very comfortable.

A Chance Encounter
Thank you for kindly accepting our last-minute Reservation the day before. It was a wonderful Ryokan nestled in the mountains of Shinshu. The property has been beautifully renovated down to every detail, and what stood out most was the excellent “soft power”—the staff’s professional service truly impressed us (we apologize for the trouble with finding the Room key). My spouse and I travel often, and both the Onsen and this memorable Ryokan will stay with us.

There’s really nothi...
There’s really nothing to nitpick (lol). If I had to say something, it would be that a screen door would be nice for insect control so you can fully enjoy the large open-air bath in the room, and it would be great if we could watch YouTube and similar services. The food was delicious, the bed was comfortable and easy to sleep on, and there were plenty of towels and bathrobes. The incense used to eliminate the typical scent of an older Ryokan was effective, and the flowers on display were fresh. It was also a nice escape from the heat—overall, a very good stay.

From the warm hospitality from welcome to farewell, to the wonderful views from the lounge and Room, the clean and refreshing baths, and the visually beautiful meals—everything made for an excellent stay. I would definitely like to visit again.

The Accommodation you’ve always dreamed of
I was so happy to finally stay at the Accommodation I had wanted to visit for a long time! First, we were shown to the lobby and served tea and sweets, and the view was absolutely amazing (and of course, the tea and sweets were delicious too)! The paintings and vases displayed in the hallway were lovely, and the spacious layout made it very relaxing. The meals were beautifully presented, and everything tasted wonderful—we truly enjoyed them. The attendant was kind; although wearing a mask, her voice carried clearly like an announcer’s and was easy to understand. I heard she has learned speaking skills through training, which made perfect sense. I’m glad I found another Accommodation I want to visit again. There was just one thing that didn’t suit my daughter and me: the pillow height. We would appreciate it if lower pillows could be provided as well. Thank you very much for your hospitality!! We’ve gained another wonderful memory.

An accommodation that will make you want to come back on the drive home.
It was my first stay in a while. The gorge scenery is wonderfully relaxing. The service was exceptionally attentive, with just the right amount of distance for comfort. The staff were thoughtful, and the meals were delicious. This is a lovely Accommodation that makes me want to return every time.

Although it is a long-established property and has been renovated, I arrived expecting a more refined atmosphere. What I liked were the Onsen ambiance, the view from the lobby, the private dining rooms, and the music room. The cuisine was different from what I had expected most. Overall, it felt best suited for guests looking for a classic, traditional Ryokan experience.

Another wonderful memory.
I have visited Fujii-so almost every year during the New Year holidays or summer vacation, but this was my first time coming in the season of fresh greenery. The lush green valley was simply breathtaking! Fresh green leaves filling the wide-open lobby windows, the murmur of the river, birdsong, and a crisp breeze drifting through—my heart already felt completely refreshed as I enjoyed matcha after arriving. The view from the bath, the meals, and even the flowers arranged in our Room and along the corridors—all of it conveyed a sense of season unique to this time of year. It truly felt like real luxury. This trip was to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary, and we were treated with such thoughtful hospitality. Thank you very much.

The Accommodation looks compact and understated from the outside, but once you step inside, it’s truly impressive! The staff’s hospitality is outstanding. The local cuisine unique to this area may not be for everyone, but I loved it! It’s been a while since I found an Accommodation I want to visit again each season!

An Accommodation you’ll want to visit again
My first return in over 30 years. Soon after arrival, I was welcomed with matcha tea. Spending time while gazing at the lush greenery of the valley was truly soothing! The Onsen was kept beautifully clean (with towels provided in the bathing area!), and above all, the water quality was excellent—my skin felt wonderfully smooth. The meals were also delicious, and I enjoyed them at a relaxed pace. The Room amenities were well stocked, and I had everything I needed for a comfortable stay. This is an Accommodation I’d love to visit again soon.

This was my first stay here. I felt refreshed...
This was our first stay, and the hospitality, cuisine, open-air bath, and views were all wonderful—exactly as we had hoped. We enjoyed a blissful time with the beautiful view (the night sky) from the moon-viewing veranda and the morning song of Japanese bush warblers. We also visited Raibaku Falls as you recommended. Seeing the breathtaking “Urami no Taki” (a waterfall viewed from behind) for the first time moved us deeply, and we took lots of photos. We would love to return in a different season. Our Signature Deep-Fried Pompom Snack
This Accommodation had a high Review rating, and I had been interested in it for some time, so I was really looking forward to my stay. The Room had been renovated and was clean, but since it is an older Accommodation with multiple sections separated by walls, I personally found the layout a bit tiring to move around. The sofa in the Western-style room is quite shallow and wasn’t very relaxing, and compared with other properties, I felt the Room’s value for money could be reconsidered. The spacious open-air bath in the Room is not fed directly from the source, and the hot-water spout was stopped, which took away from the atmosphere and was disappointing. Also, there was no emergency staircase leading outside; since the first floor is built like a basement level, I felt uneasy about what might happen in an emergency. On a positive note, I appreciated the complimentary drinks in the refrigerator. The meals were tasty, including their signature “Ponpon-age,” but both dinner and breakfast lacked premium ingredients overall. Unfortunately, there wasn’t any particularly memorable dish that made me think “I absolutely want to come back just to eat this again.” Dishes that were simply cut, grilled, steamed, or fried (including dessert) made me question the value for money. I am grateful that many of the staff—including the proprietress and our Room attendant—were pleasant and welcoming.

Staying for the first time in over 30 years
We had a comfortable stay, just as before. If I may say so, for food lovers like us, the dinner portions felt a little small. It would have been perfect with one more dish—either meat or fish. We’ll visit again, and we look forward to seeing you then!

Enjoy an extraordinary escape.
We arrived at the Accommodation after climbing a mountain path lined with beautiful cherry blossoms in full bloom. The view from the lounge while enjoying matcha was wonderful, and at night the illuminated trees felt truly magical. I was also fascinated to see an actual sealed move from a shogi match. We enjoyed delicious meals along with local wine and sake—especially the signature Ponpon hot pot, fresh sashimi, flavorful wild mountain vegetables, and Shinshu beef slow-roasted at low temperature, so tender it could be cut with chopsticks. We had a lovely time hearing about the Accommodation’s history from the staff member who served us. Breakfast was also excellent, and I ended up eating far too much (as happens at a Ryokan). Most of all, the open-air bath felt like pure luxury. Soaking in the soft water, then opening the large glass doors wide once warmed up, a slightly cool spring breeze brushed my cheeks as I listened to the river, small birds chirping, and even bush warblers singing. It was a wonderful escape from everyday life—I truly enjoyed it. I also appreciated their thoughtfulness in providing a safe chair in the bathroom for my elderly mother. I feel this is an Accommodation you can enjoy in every season. Thank you very much for taking such good care of us. I would be delighted to visit again if I have the chance.

An Accommodation Offering the Finest Hospitality
[Service & Hospitality] The highlight of this stay was the service provided by the male staff member in charge. He had a very polished presence, and beyond his appearance, his refined mannerisms and thoughtful choice of words were exceptional. It was hospitality of a caliber I rarely encounter these days. Thanks to him, my satisfaction with the stay undoubtedly increased significantly. [Dining] The food was also outstanding; each dish reflected meticulous care, and I was truly satisfied. [Suggestions for the Room & Facility] As for the Room, perhaps because it is divided into smaller sections, it felt visually a bit smaller than its actual size, which was slightly disappointing. Also, while the Facility as a whole is wonderful, I noticed that some lighting had a bluish-white (high color temperature) tone mixed in. Since this is such an atmospheric Accommodation, I think unifying all lighting to warm incandescent tones would remove any slightly lonely impression and create an even more refined and relaxing space.

It was a wonderful stay.
Despite making a same-day Reservation, we were warmly welcomed and expertly assisted from pickup through check-in and guidance—an atmosphere truly filled with hospitality. The Facility was breathtaking as well: the stunning valley views and sounds, the Room and Onsen to enjoy them, and the meals—everything exceeded our expectations. During this cherry blossom season, you even suggested a morning weeping cherry blossom tour at dinner, and we had a far better time than if we had planned it ourselves. It was such a relaxing stay that it made us want to work hard every day so we can come back again. Thank you very much.

It was excellent.
To celebrate my retirement and my mother’s 88th birthday, I stayed in the Wisteria Room to express my gratitude to my wife. The hospitality from the proprietress and all the staff, as well as the meals and the Onsen, were all outstanding. The attendant also treated us with great care, and we felt thoughtful attention in every detail. The open-air bath in our Room was spacious and wonderfully open, and I ended up soaking four times. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious—each dish was carefully prepared with gentle flavors. The portions were just right, and even my elderly mother finished everything. The Koshihikari rice from Kijimadaira cooked in a clay pot at dinner was exceptional; the only regret is that I was too full to finish it. In the morning, I had seconds and emptied the rice tub completely. I have stayed at several Ryokan considered high-end, but there is usually at least one thing that falls short—here there was nothing at all; everything was superb. The scenery is also beautiful, so if I have the chance, I would love to return during autumn foliage or fresh spring greenery season. It was a wonderful experience.

A Wonderful Stay Experience
I was extremely satisfied with my stay at Fujiiso in Nagano Prefecture. The breathtaking winter snowscape was truly stunning; outside the window, a pure white world and quiet mountain views spread out before us. The interior was warmly elegant, and from the moment I stepped inside I felt comfortable and happy. Everything was beautifully maintained down to the smallest detail. I would especially like to express my sincere gratitude to Mr./Ms. Fujisawa. When you noticed my mother’s runny nose due to allergies, you immediately offered tissues; when we dropped our chopsticks, you promptly replaced them with clean ones; and when a family member forgot their passport in the restaurant after dinner, you delivered it to our Room first thing the next morning. I was deeply moved by such thoughtful attention. Thanks to this attentive service, we were able to relax in comfort and feel at ease, as if we were at home. I am truly grateful to Fujiiso for giving us such wonderful memories. Thank you very much for your high rating, and we sincerely look forward to welcoming you again.

Snow-view Onsen and Exceptional Hospitality
Due to the snow forecast, I made a last-minute reservation the day before and finally experienced my dream of enjoying an onsen with a snowy view. Fujii-so Ryokan exceeded all expectations with its exceptional quality and attentive service. The private dining started with crab, followed by their signature Ponpon Nabe, offering a unique taste you can't find elsewhere. In the lounge, the illuminated snowstorm combined with background music created an indescribably magical atmosphere. I would love to visit again in other seasons as well.

A high-quality luxury Ryokan
A reliable and unpretentious Ryokan with excellent hospitality. Without overly extravagant services or flashy facilities, the accommodation offers grounded hospitality, meals, and stays. The Onsen was perfectly temperature-controlled, providing high-quality relaxation without straining the body even after multiple visits. Meals were well-portioned with no unnecessary frills, offering a sense of stability and satisfaction. Although I was unfamiliar with Takayama Village, learning about its historical connection to the Matsushiro Domain made this Onsen destination even more enjoyable. I look forward to visiting again during the fresh green season!

A Relaxing Ryokan
A renowned Ryokan often used for Go and Shogi title matches. This time, I stayed during the autumn foliage season and enjoyed a blissful moment listening to the sound of the river while admiring the autumn leaves from the open-air bath. Of course, the cuisine was also very delicious, making it a Ryokan I want to visit every year.

During the autumn foliage season, we enjoyed the stunning scenery and relaxed in the bath. The meals were elaborate and so filling that we felt completely satisfied. I would visit regularly if it were closer.
A friend recommended this place after their visit, and we planned our trip a year in advance. It was a cozy Onsen, mostly visited by Japanese guests, and we were able to enjoy the baths almost privately. The meals were just the right amount—not too much—and everything was delicious, leaving us truly satisfied. It's an ideal spot to relax away from the hustle and bustle, making it perfect for a Multiple Night Stay to fully unwind. I do wish there had been more affordable sweet treats available at the shop. The hostess and staff were very welcoming despite it being our first visit—thank you!

This is my second visit. Following the previous one, I was completely satisfied with the meals, Onsen, room, and hospitality. I will visit again during the autumn foliage season.
