    Everything was excellent.

    This was our third stay, and as always, the service exceeded our expectations. We always look forward to the meals, and we are impressed every time by both the food and the beautiful tableware. At dinner, two staff members were attentive, cheerful, and kind, which made it a truly wonderful evening. My companion was also delighted. In our Room with an open-air bath, we were able to enjoy the Onsen until late at night. We will definitely return again. Thank you very much.

    A Journey to Ureshino

    I chose Taishoya for my stay at Ureshino Onsen after a long time. This is a charming Ryokan with 100 years of history. The front desk staff were warm and attentive! You can also enjoy the outdoor Onsen at Shiibasanso, accessible via shuttle service. There are two Onsen facilities within the accommodation, both offering silky smooth water known for its skin-beautifying properties. Dinner features delicious dishes made with local ingredients, and even the seemingly simple breakfast was surprisingly tasty. I will definitely visit again. Stay date: January 8th

    The Authentic Charm of a Traditional Ryokan

    A traditional Ryokan with a warm and refined hospitality from the staff that leaves a lasting impression. While some parts of the accommodation are old, it adds charm for those who can appreciate it. The highlight is undoubtedly the food—an exceptional variety of dishes made with fresh ingredients. The appetizers are flavorful without being overly salty, while local vegetables and miso soup have a light seasoning that brings out the natural taste of the ingredients, creating an unforgettable dining experience. The Onsen is another delight; the exclusive underground Onsen for guests features a waterfall and vibrant koi fish outside—a pleasant surprise that keeps you entertained as you watch them jump. However, there were two slightly disappointing points: 1. The music played in the large dining hall during breakfast and dinner was Japanese instruments? Music box? J-pop? Given this serene location away from urban noise, more traditional Japanese tunes would have been more fitting. 2. On 11/26 during breakfast, when I went to get coffee or other items, I was told refills for Onsen tofu and miso soup were available freely. However, when I tried to ask an employee near the pot about getting some miso soup refilled, an older female staff member nearby suddenly yelled at me aggressively before I could even finish saying "miso soup." She loudly insisted "I'll bring it! I'll bring it!" while driving me away in such a manner that ruined my previously cheerful morning mood entirely. This incident was particularly disappointing because all other staff provided five-star service with warmth and professionalism—especially younger employees who were polite and eager to improve themselves. While it's difficult to lower my rating due to one person’s behavior amidst such excellent service overall, I feel compelled to express dissatisfaction as this kind of treatment may extend towards others as well within their team dynamics.

    Family Memory Trip

    We stayed at this accommodation for a commemorative trip celebrating a pearl wedding anniversary, coming of age, and 60th birthday. In conclusion, choosing Taishoya was absolutely the right decision. From the warm welcome to the heartfelt farewell, we felt genuine hospitality throughout our stay. Our room, Shokintei, offered ample space with both an indoor bath and an open-air bath that allowed us to relax both body and mind. While the facility may not be brand new, it exuded a traditional Japanese charm. Both dinner and breakfast were served at seats with beautiful views; the meals were exceptionally delicious. As part of our celebration, we were even treated to red rice separately—a thoughtful touch that impressed us all. The staff's attentive service left every family member satisfied; in fact, the morning yudofu was so exquisite that we had seconds! For this special occasion, they also prepared commemorative photos and celebratory gifts for us—an act of kindness for which we are deeply grateful. Later on, we received a beautifully handwritten thank-you postcard from them regarding our stay—it truly touched our hearts beyond words (something no star rating could ever express). This accommodation is simply unparalleled in its excellence.

    Highly satisfied

    Stayed in the detached Kiku Room. It was for four people, but with three rooms, we were very satisfied! Thanks to this, we could relax without worrying about others. We also used the open-air bath at another accommodation. The water temperature and atmosphere were great, allowing us to unwind. The meals were all delicious and very satisfying. The staff were also very pleasant and welcoming. It was a family stay, and everyone was extremely satisfied!

    Accommodation for Special Occasions

    We stayed at the accommodation as a family to celebrate my husband's 60th birthday. Before the meal, we had a commemorative photo session with him wearing a red vest and even received a message card and gift, which made my husband very happy. The meals were delicious and filling. The staff's hospitality was excellent as well. Thank you very much!

    The hotel had a nost...

    The hotel had a nostalgic charm of the good old days, but it was clean and well-maintained. There was only one elevator, so we often had to wait. I didn't know beforehand, but there was a Shuttle Service to the Shiibasan-so bathhouse, which made me very happy. We also enjoyed the secluded hot spring atmosphere in the mountains. The staff provided bright and pleasant service overall; however, unfortunately, there was an incorrect charge for drinks from another Room at the end of our stay. It seems there were issues with confirming signatures and Room numbers during dinner. Although we had to wait a bit and felt slightly uncomfortable about it, one of the staff kindly took photos for us during our send-off and gave us a warm farewell. Thank you for your hospitality!

    This time, I couldn't stay, so my wife and her sister used the accommodation. They both mentioned being very satisfied with the staff's welcome and the meals. They said they would like to stay again. Next time, I would definitely like to join them for a stay.

    For anniversaries

    Upon arrival at the accommodation, 4 or 5 staff members were waiting to welcome us. The staff we interacted with provided exceptional service, making our stay very pleasant. The room was impeccably clean and did not feel outdated. We enjoyed the large public bath, and it was great that the room's bath was also an onsen. Dinner was delicious, with just the right portion sizes—not too much or too little. For breakfast, the yudofu (hot tofu) was absolutely exquisite. Since we stayed in a detached room, it was incredibly quiet with no noise at all, allowing us to relax completely during our time there. Overall, it was an extremely satisfying stay. If given the opportunity, I would love to visit again!

    The accommodation offered excellent service, cuisine, and hospitality.

    We stayed here for our 40th wedding anniversary trip. We relaxed in a Japanese-style room with an onsen facing a beautiful garden. The onsen included a private bath in the room, the large public bath "Taki no Yu," and Shiibasanso's "Shiiba no Yu," allowing us to enjoy one of Japan's top three beautifying hot springs. For dinner, we had Saga Beef Kaiseki cuisine, and both the quality and quantity of every dish, starting with the main beef course, were excellent (the portions were almost too generous). It was incredibly delicious, and we were both very satisfied. During dinner, we received a commemorative gift for our 40th anniversary; when we returned to our room after the meal, there was a handwritten card and heart-shaped balloon on the table that deeply moved us both. Especially from the warm greeting upon arrival at the ryokan to their hospitality during meals and even their farewell at checkout, we felt an exceptional level of care from all staff members. It became a truly memorable trip for us. We would love to stay here again when visiting Ureshino Onsen!

    As expected of a long-established Ryokan.

    There was a board in the facility celebrating its 100th anniversary this year, and as expected from a long-established inn, it exudes authenticity in every aspect. The sister facility, Shiiba no Yu, was also excellent, including the Shuttle Service. Of course, the large public bath at Taishoya was wonderful as well. I particularly liked the quality of the hot spring water and its temperature. If I had to mention something, it would be that I wished for more fruit options at breakfast and that the BGM volume in the dining area could be toned down a bit. Incidentally, when I sent a photo to my parents, they told me they stayed at Taishoya three years ago and also used the Shuttle Service to Shiiba no Yu. I was surprised by this coincidence in our actions. Coming all the way from Hokkaido makes it quite rare, doesn’t it?

    The Onsen is excellent.

    I stayed with my 90-year-old mother at this Onsen Ryokan, which boasts a 100-year history, and we were looking forward to our visit. The building showed some age, but the interior was very clean. Flowers were beautifully arranged throughout the facility, including small vases with wildflowers on each table, which we enjoyed admiring at our leisure. The large flower arrangements were also stunning. The room was spacious and clean; however, the bathroom area (sink and toilet) felt a bit cramped and slightly inconvenient to use. There are many stairs in the facility, but I appreciated that there was a chair lift installed as part of the hotel's thoughtful consideration for guests. The hot spring water at Ureshino Onsen was soft and silky with just the right temperature—my mother was deeply impressed by it. This is definitely a hotel I would like to visit again. The meals were all delicious as well! Thank you for your hospitality; the staff treated us kindly throughout our stay.

    It was a wonderful traditional Ryokan.

    Stayed at the East Wing "Shokintei" for one night in early August 2025 with my wife for her birthday and our 3-year-old daughter. We had informed the accommodation about our child's nut allergy in advance, and they confirmed it again during check-in, which reassured us. Additionally, there was a note in the room's tea snacks stating "No nuts," allowing our child to enjoy them safely. This thoughtful attention to detail left a very positive impression. The room was spacious with both a cypress bath and an open-air bath, leaving our skin feeling smooth. The highlight of our stay was definitely the meals. Each room had its own table in the large dining hall, providing a relaxed dining experience. We always look forward to checking out menus when staying at accommodations like this, but it was unique that not only were dishes listed but also their cooking methods were described. Dinner featured locally sourced ingredients, including rice from terraced fields with unlimited refills—absolutely satisfying! Another reason why we loved the meals so much was because of the wonderful staff member who served both dinner and breakfast (the same person). Their exceptional hospitality included remembering and addressing our daughter by name, making her feel special with friendly interactions—this truly made us happy! All other staff members were also very pleasant. Breakfast had gentle flavors and was delicious as well; onsen tofu and tea porridge came with unlimited refills too. Before we knew it, it was time to check out—we even said to each other how we wished we could stay another night as we left this ryokan behind. Ureshino Onsen is synonymous with Taishoya! We're now even more eager to visit their sister property Shiibasanso someday after this wonderful stay here!

    Disappointing

    The seasoning of the meals was not good, seemingly tailored for older guests or those who enjoy alcohol, and not of a quality that suits all age groups. It was my first time experiencing plain white rice that wasn't tasty at a Ryokan. It was also disappointing that breakfast was fixed and not a buffet.

    It is an excellent Ryokan.

    We stayed here to celebrate my mother's 70th birthday and my own birthday. Before dinner, the staff kindly helped us take photos with a celebratory red vest, served red rice during dinner, and even gave my mother a gift, which made her incredibly happy! Although I had only mentioned celebrating my mother's milestone in advance, during dinner I casually mentioned to the staff that it was also my birthday the next day. To my surprise, they prepared a gift for me as well! I was deeply touched by their thoughtfulness. Both my mother and I were able to create wonderful memories together. All of the staff were kind, attentive, and provided exceptional hospitality! We will definitely stay here again! Thank you so much!!!

    Family Trip

    We visited Ureshino for the first time with my elderly parents and my sister's family, a total of seven people. Taishoya had a calm atmosphere, with flowers beautifully arranged throughout the facility, paired with various flower vases for us to enjoy. Despite the unfortunate weather, we were kindly transported by microbus to Shiiba no Yu, where we fully enjoyed the open-air bath. The meals were thoughtfully prepared with reduced salt and sugar content, allowing us to dine worry-free. The sesame tofu tempura was especially delightful, with melted cheese inside adding a delicious touch. The rice made from terraced paddy fields was also excellent. The tofu served at breakfast truly captured the essence of Ureshino's flavors; it was best enjoyed without any condiments or toppings. Each of the three Onsen locations had its own charm, but I particularly liked Taki no Yu (Waterfall Bath). The Room was spacious and comfortable as well. We are grateful for such an enjoyable trip!

    Traditional hospitality at a long-established Ryokan

    In late May, I went on a trip with my mother, sister, and niece—three generations of women. I was deeply moved by the thoughtful hospitality unique to this traditional Ryokan, just as described in the reviews. I had informed them in advance about celebrating my mother's 77th birthday (Kiju), and they prepared a reserved cake, a rental red vest (chanchanko), and even gave us a gift. The wrapping paper featured an origami doll for Kiju celebration, which my mother cherished and brought home with care. The handmade touches of hospitality warmed our hearts as such gestures are rare these days. The food was delicious, and while the Onsen was small, it was clean and comfortable. During the fresh green season, we were glad to have chosen a room facing the garden. The dazzling greenery and vibrant color of Ureshino tea remain unforgettable.

    Family Onsen Stay & Premium Beef Kaiseki at Taishoya

    We stayed as a family of two adults and one 3-year-old child, using the [Early Bird 30] Seasonal Kaiseki Plan with Taisho-ya Special Beef. We arrived by rental car and received excellent support with parking guidance and luggage assistance, making our stay very comfortable. The guest room was a cozy 12-tatami mat Japanese-style room with a wooden aroma, plus an entryway. The private bath featured direct hot spring water from Ureshino Onsen, offering a silky smooth texture that was truly addictive. Multiple sizes of children's yukata were available, along with amenities like a diaper disposal bin and child toilet seat for added convenience. The large communal baths had two separate areas for men and women, allowing even children to enjoy the gentle onsen experience. Dinner at the dining area included an exceptional grilled Taisho-ya special beef on a ceramic plate. The creamy yudofu served at breakfast was so delicious that we decided to buy it as souvenirs immediately. In the lobby, coffee and various juices were freely available, while the shop offered an array of souvenirs such as yudofu and onsen manju buns. Thoughtful touches like small toy gifts for children or attentive service during meals made it clear this accommodation is very family-friendly—allowing us to relax and enjoy our stay together as a family fully. If we have another chance to visit Saga again, we would love to return!

    The Finest Hot Spring Quality and Hospitality

    The highlight is the excellent quality of the onsen water. There are two large baths for men, both of which are comfortable. Additionally, you can take the accommodation's bus to an open-air bath located in the mountains, which was also very enjoyable. The facility as a whole is old but well-maintained and clean. Meals are served in a dining hall with a spacious atmosphere, and the seating arrangement ensures enough distance between tables for comfort. The dishes have a gentle flavor overall, and the meat was tender and delicious. I would love to visit again if I have another opportunity.

    It feels slightly outdated.

    The staff provided excellent service. There were two baths, one large and one small, as well as a bath in the Room and the Shiiba no Yu, which were all enjoyable. The Room was very spacious as it was a special suite, but I felt it was not very convenient for relaxing. I also found the Facility such as power outlets to be inconvenient to use.

    Bath and Meals

    The meals are satisfying, especially the sashimi, which always maintains its freshness. The appetizers and other dishes were also delicious this time. The bath has been kept comfortable since its renovation. The staff has become younger and more energetic. However, it is disappointing that the manners of some guests (especially those from overseas) do not match the efforts of the facility and staff. I strongly feel that stricter measures should be taken by the accommodation to address this issue.
