    It was a very comfortable 2-night, 3-day stay with convenient access. The meals were disappointing. The first day was perfect, but the second day was so different it didn’t feel like the same restaurant.

    We thoroughly enjoyed Kamikochi.

    We stayed here because my wife wanted to visit Kamikochi for her birthday. It’s right by Kappa Bridge, in a very convenient location, and we loved being able to enjoy the views from the bridge at night and early in the morning. The meals were even better than expected, and the wine pairing was excellent. The morning pork miso soup and soba galette were delicious too! It’s been a long time since we’ve had such a satisfying vacation. We’d love to come again if we have the chance!

    We stayed at this Hotel as the final stop of our three-night, four-day trip. We had originally planned to arrive in the morning, so we asked in advance whether we could leave our luggage, and they kindly agreed. However, we had car trouble along the way and didn’t arrive until after 4:00 p.m. At check-in, they handled everything smoothly without any reproach, which was a relief. On the day we arrived, bears had apparently been spotted several times, and some areas were closed until around 3:00 p.m. depending on the location. It was reassuring to see how seriously and thoughtfully they approached bear safety measures. Dinner far exceeded my expectations—I became a big fan. The wine pairing was also very generous compared with typical Hotels: champagne plus white, red, and rosé wines matched to each course, and even a craft gin as an after-dinner drink. We were extremely satisfied with both the food and drinks. Breakfast was also excellent—a delicious Japanese-Western spread including their signature tonjiru (pork miso soup). By chance, we were the only participants for the 6:00 a.m. nature guide walk, making it an almost too-luxurious hour. With explanations along the way, everyday plants, birds, and misty morning scenery became much more vivid and enjoyable—it was a wonderful morning walk. Thank you very much. I also recommend adding them as a LINE friend in advance for special perks. It was a truly fulfilling and memorable stay, and we would love to return again.

    The service and meals were not worth the accommodation fee.

    Breakfast could be chosen from bread, rice balls, or porridge. On the first day I chose rice balls and was surprised to receive two very small, bite-sized pieces of rice. Since many guests seemed to be elderly, it may have been adjusted for them, but it was simply too small. At the very least, I would like to be able to choose between a regular size and a smaller size. Also, the large public bath was not available in the morning. I was told this was due to rising crude oil prices because of the situation in the Middle East, but since this Hotel charges fairly high rates, it didn’t feel like a convincing reason. Crude oil prices have already started coming down as well. To top it off, although I was traveling alone, there was only one glass and one mug in the Room, and only one each of coffee and tea provided. If you want to drink tea and then coffee, you have to wash the mug yourself. Dinner was reasonably good and it was nice that many staff members were smiling, but overall I felt it wasn’t worth the Accommodation fee.

    The meals are not very filling.

    The breakfast rice balls are too small. Even if refills are available, they’re so small that I’d need about 10 to feel full, and it’s inconvenient to keep asking for more—so I’d like them to be a normal size. Each dish is very tasty, but overall the portions are small and lack a sense of volume, including dinner. Given the location, I assume many guests go trekking; considering that, I’d like you to offer more filling menu options.

    Excellent meals!

    As always, the meals were absolutely delicious, and we were very satisfied. The staff’s service was also attentive and truly impressive. We love Kamikochi in its fresh greenery, so we would like to stay at the Gosenjaku Hotel again during that season.

    A Special Time

    We visited for a special trip as a couple. It is located right next to Kappa Bridge, and we enjoyed the morning scenery from our Room. There is also a lounge, and while it is not all-inclusive, it allowed us to relax and unwind. Drinks in the Room included delicious coffee and apple juice. Water was available outside the Room, but it seemed like unlimited refills?! We also enjoyed the French dinner. The pork miso soup in the morning was excellent. The food was served warm, but we would have been even happier if the service had been just a little faster. Overall, we were very satisfied. It became a wonderful memory. Thank you very much.

    This was a Hotel I was truly glad to have stayed at.

    This was my third visit to Kamikochi, and I was able to stay overnight there for the first time! We had been watching the weather and saying, “If it’s nice out, let’s go!” so I thought Kamikochi might not be possible—but there was an opening at Gosenjaku Hotel! And then there was a wonderful surprise that truly brought me to tears. The Room, the meals, and the hospitality were all impeccable—I couldn’t be more satisfied! Best of all, because we stayed overnight, we were able to see Kappa Bridge with no one around, a sky full of stars, and Taisho Pond in the morning—an unforgettable trip. On the second day, I spent about two hours by Kappa Bridge simply gazing at the Azusa River and the Hotaka mountain range—pure bliss. Thank you so much!

    Unforgettable views and warm hospitality

    We visited to celebrate my husband’s birthday, and thanks to your kindness we were upgraded to a Room with a balcony (I assume this was subject to availability on the day). We were able to fully enjoy the wonderful view. The balcony experience was especially memorable, and next time we would love to make a Reservation specifically for a balcony Room. Before the morning guided tour began, we really appreciated your flexible and attentive support—such as storing our luggage and showing us to the lounge while we waited. The Room and Facility throughout the property were comfortable, and the meals made great use of local ingredients—delicious and very satisfying. We are also truly glad we signed up for the guided tour; it helped us feel even closer to Kamikochi’s nature. Perhaps because it was just the start of the season, it seemed there were many staff members in training, but their hard work really came through, and we look forward to seeing them grow. Overall, it was an extremely satisfying stay.

    Enjoy Kamikochi to the Fullest

    The location was excellent, and we were able to enjoy the scenery at Kappa Bridge in the quiet early morning. The staff's hospitality was great, making our stay very pleasant. Dinner was a French course meal, which I hadn't had in a while, and it was absolutely delicious. We also enjoyed some tasty cakes in the lounge and relaxed after trekking. It was the perfect accommodation to fully enjoy Kamikochi. This time we visited in autumn, but I would love to come back during another season!

    Shimmering Late Autumn in Kamikochi

    Visiting Kamikochi for the first time near its seasonal closure, I experienced the magical moment when fallen larch leaves froze and faintly shimmered. The white Hotaka mountain range stood out against the azure, transparent sky, accompanied by the soothing sound of Azusa River in the background. The red-tinted Keshoyanagi trees, the serene silence of Dakesawa Wetlands, and walking paths covered with soft larch needles all hinted at a tranquil prelude to a snowy wonderland. While eagerly awaiting the next season, I am grateful for spending this closing chapter of Kamikochi at Gosenjaku Hotel.

    During the peak of the autumn foliage season, I was fortunate to reserve a suite. After noting my allergies in the remarks section, I promptly received a kind email, which allowed me to visit with peace of mind. From the moment I arrived early, all staff members greeted me with warm smiles, leaving a wonderful impression. Dinner was served in a historic restaurant featuring thick beams and pillars, offering an elegant French course meal. The black ceramic plates matched perfectly with the folk-style furniture, creating a cozy atmosphere. While both the main dish and dessert were visually stunning and delicious, I was particularly impressed by the smoked bonito appetizer. The aroma and texture of chilled smoked bonito were exceptional when paired with myoga and sprouts for a refreshing taste—unlike any bonito dish I've ever had before. Additionally, butter smoked with sakura chips added an aromatic touch when spread on pain au lait bread—it was simply delightful! For breakfast at the same table by the window where Kappa Bridge came into view (hidden at night), we enjoyed breathtaking scenery including snow-capped mountains nearby. The white porcelain cups accented in blue beautifully complemented herbal tea resembling butterfly pea flowers' vibrant hue—a lovely detail indeed! Even small items like wooden ladles used for serving buffet-style pork miso soup caught attention—they were so charming that I'd love one myself! Our room provided ample space accommodating three guests comfortably without extra beds but rather larger-sized ones instead—truly convenient! Everything necessary had been thoughtfully prepared down-to-the-last-detail such as bear-repellent bells included within accommodations; however most memorable aspect involved discreetly placed plastic bags inside walk-in closets bearing messages encouraging guests "to collect litter found during walks if possible."     I had high expectations for the accommodation, but...

    In Kamikochi, I decided to switch from my usual accommodation at the Imperial Hotel to the Gosenjaku Hotel, which offers a similar price range. With good reviews and high expectations, I gave it a try. The concierge service was excellent, raising my hopes for the meals. ... After 6 minutes of waiting at the table, water finally arrived! The appetizer was average at best, and the main dish—domestic beef—was tough and unappetizing. Considering the cost-performance ratio, it was undoubtedly one of the worst experiences. I will definitely not be returning. After checking out, I had curry at the Imperial Hotel that gently comforted my disappointed stomach—a small consolation. The waiter’s smile seemed to say “Don’t stray again,” leaving me with regretful memories of Kamikochi.

    Wonderful view from the room window

    We thoroughly enjoyed the stunning nature of the Kamikochi cultural heritage. The view from the Room was also exceptional. The Hotel was well-maintained, with fascinating displays of paintings and photographs related to Kamikochi, making our stay both enjoyable and comfortable. The meals were also very delicious. One slight disappointment was that the dining space for dinner felt like a general cafeteria, which seemed a bit lacking in privacy considering the price. A more private atmosphere for each table could enhance the dining experience. Overall, we had a very pleasant stay and would love to visit again if given the opportunity. Thank you very much.

    On my third visit to Kamikochi, I stayed "up" for the first time. Although it was just a one-night stay, I felt completely relaxed. The hospitality of the staff was excellent, and the room's interior design, with its soothing colors harmonizing with nature, was very tasteful. I am grateful for the upgrade to a room with a better view. Thank you very much. After a tiring round trip to Yokoo, I arrived at the hotel earlier than expected, but I was delighted to be given the key as the room was ready. The view of the Azusa River, Kappa Bridge, and the Hotaka Mountain Range from the window was incredibly soothing. The only regret was not being able to fully enjoy the meals due to an issue with my jaw. It is a very comfortable hotel. I would love to visit again.

    It was excellent.

    I had always wanted to stay in Kamikochi, so I chose a room with a balcony. Although it was drizzling on the day of arrival, I could still enjoy the breathtaking view from the room, which was amazing. Unfortunately, I felt unwell and couldn’t eat much dinner, causing concern for the staff. To ensure I could have breakfast the next morning, I went to bed early that night. The next morning, feeling better, I visited the large public bath first thing and took a walk before breakfast. When I arrived at the breakfast venue full of energy, a staff member kindly asked about my condition. When I told them that I had fully recovered, they smiled warmly and seemed relieved. The hotel's signature pork miso soup was incredibly delicious and gentle on my stomach. It’s a hotel with wonderful staff that makes me want to visit again someday! Every single staff member was exceptional.

    Please reconsider the room wear.

    Due to its excellent location right in front of Kappa Bridge, the Hotel tends to attract many visitors, making it quite noisy during busy times. Regarding requests for the Hotel: Please avoid providing one-piece style room wear as it is not comfortable for relaxing. The bottom button often bears too much strain, causing the buttonhole to stretch and the button to come off easily. It would be greatly appreciated if you could switch to samue or pajama-style options instead. Additionally, the toilet seat is an older model and tends to move. If not seated properly, it can touch the lower part, which feels unpleasant.

    Solo Travel

    The service at the Hotel was excellent. The staff were kind and attentive, helping me enjoy my first visit to Kamikochi despite the bad weather. During the meal, they engaged with me even though I was dining alone, making the two hours pass by quickly. It’s a Hotel I would love to visit again soon.

    Thank you very much. The Room and bath did not have a special feel, but everything was clean, and I had a comfortable stay. The Hotel itself had a minimalistic design, making it easy to navigate without feeling tired, which I appreciated. During the meal, the young staff members explained the dishes with great effort while being supported by their senior colleagues—it was so admirable that I felt like cheering them on! The dishes were well-portioned and incorporated many seasonal ingredients. They also kindly accommodated allergies and provided detailed explanations about the food—thank you for that!     After visiting Kamikochi for the first time in about 60 years, I found it to be just as divine and breathtaking as I remembered. The Hotel, perfectly blending into its surroundings at the heart of Kamikochi, was truly exceptional. The calm atmosphere during meals complemented the refined French cuisine, which focused on mountain-appropriate vegetables.     Sacred Place

    We arrived with various unexpected events. If we hadn't reserved this hotel, even those incidents wouldn't have become such wonderful memories. Finally, we were able to visit the long-admired Kamikochi, and it happened to be on our 31st wedding anniversary. We were deeply touched by the warm hospitality of the hotel staff and are filled with gratitude. The meals were impeccable—an exquisite French cuisine experience. The view from the window was surrounded by Kappa Bridge and the river, offering a dreamlike scenery that made for a truly happy time. The hotel's interior was charming, adorned with captivating artworks like ink paintings of kappas. The room had just the right amount of space; both the bed and pillows were very comfortable to use. Useful items like bear bells and bags for carrying back collected trash added thoughtful touches to our stay. Additionally, we were amazed by how delicious the water was—it came directly from a natural source and was prepared in a pot in our room! Although it was just one night, both our minds and bodies felt cleansed; we escaped this year's intense heatwave and left feeling genuinely rejuvenated. Breakfast was also exceptional—we enjoyed an outstanding galette that completed an indulgent experience. Both this land and Gosenjaku Hotel felt like sacred places to us.     This was my first time using this service.

    When it was still Gosenjaku Ryokan, I used to stay in a bungalow at Konashidaira and go hiking. Kamikochi has now become a full-fledged tourist destination with higher temperatures, and the cost of living remains as high as ever. Back then, inconvenience was the norm in Kamikochi, which seemed to help preserve its natural beauty. However, during my stay at the hotel this time, I felt both comfort and a sense of unease from being able to live so conveniently. The hotel was comfortable, and the meals were very stylish—reminiscent of dining at Disney's Magellan's or a luxury hotel restaurant. The large public bath had water temperatures around 45°C. Unfortunately, one child bathing with us found it too hot to enter the tub comfortably; feeling sorry for them led me to lower my rating by one star. That said, I enjoyed my long-awaited visit to Kamikochi and spent my time there leisurely. If given another opportunity, I would love to stay again. Thank you very much!

    After two years, this was my second stay. Last time, I stayed at a different hotel, but this time I chose this accommodation as it felt more comfortable for me. 【Room】I selected a room with a balcony on the 4th floor. The location was excellent; I enjoyed relaxing while admiring the view or reading. Conversations from guests on the neighboring balcony were slightly noticeable, but other than that, there was no noise disturbance from other rooms—it was very quiet. The room layout was bright and practical. Having space to quickly place my jacket and backpack was convenient. 【Amenities】There was a bear bell in the room which I borrowed during my stay. The amenities provided were sufficient for me. 【Dinner】French cuisine with wine pairing upon request each time. The casual atmosphere allowed me to enjoy it without feeling formal or stiff. Both the taste and presentation were delightful—it almost made me forget I was in the mountains! While initially thinking that the rice balls seemed small in size compared to expectations—the main egg dish portion balanced everything perfectly overall! 【Other Notes】Highly recommend checking-in before sightseeing activities since discount tickets can be used at affiliated shops nearby afterward conveniently too! Post-checkout waiting times until bus departures are also enjoyable within their cozy café setting onsite comfortably instead. Looking forward eagerly towards visiting again someday soon hopefully too!

    I had a relaxing stay.

    The room had a unit bath, which was a bit inconvenient, but it might be unavoidable due to the location. The amenities, service, and food were excellent. It was very quiet and relaxing. I would love to stay again if I have the chance.
