    We stayed here for a family trip.

    This was our second stay. The Room was spacious, the meals were excellent, and the staff were very courteous, making our stay truly comfortable. Next time, I would like to bring my mother as well.

    Unforgivable service, disappointing meals

    On arrival, an elderly male parking attendant directed us to a hard-to-park space along the wall even though there were plenty of open spots. When I said I preferred another space, he showed clear displeasure and told us to park next to a large SUV. He seemed ready to complain, so we parked there, but our vehicle is also fairly large—how could he not understand that both cars would need extra care getting in and out and maneuvering? The check-in process was also inappropriate. We stayed as a pair, but while one of us was filling out the paperwork, the other was sent to the café. After that, the person completing the paperwork was asked about meal times. As a result, we had to go look for my companion to discuss it. Has this never happened before? There was no explanation of the tea and sweets served at the café, and the tea was already cold. When we arrived at our Room, there was an A4-sized nameplate displayed. What about personal information protection? The in-house guidebook and notices handed over at reception were packed with text on both sides and made me not want to read them. The local sightseeing information provided in the Room had grime stuck on it. The food may reflect regional tastes, but overall it was very salty; in particular, the breakfast porridge was so salty that I couldn’t eat it. I wrote similar comments on the in-house questionnaire and handed it over at checkout. We received kaishi paper as a small gift; I hesitate to criticize a gift, but we did not need it.

    An Accommodation with Excellent Dining and a Wonderful Terrace

    The website highlighted the dining, and indeed both dinner and breakfast were as beautiful and delicious as expected. The service was attentive, making our stay very comfortable. The view from the terrace is well worth seeing, so don’t miss it.

    I had always seen Mt...

    I had always seen Mt. Fuji from afar, but the sheer grandeur of seeing it up close—its vast foothills spreading out below—was truly magnificent. The stairs were a little scary, but the panoramic view from the rooftop and the open-air bath at dusk were very relaxing. The Room had large windows that created a wonderful sense of openness, and the full futon set was very comfortable to sleep on, helping me recover from travel fatigue. Both breakfast and dinner were delicious, with refined and gentle flavors. If it were possible to choose options such as fewer dishes for dinner through a Plan, I would appreciate it even more. The small flower arrangements in the hallway and the scented sachets in the Room gave a charming atmosphere of a classic Japanese Ryokan. The quietness of the lake was also very calming. It was my first time at Lake Kawaguchi, and while it was truly beautiful, I was surprised by how many overseas visitors there were—more than I had imagined—and I couldn’t help wondering whether overtourism might become an issue. Thank you very much.

    All staff were very ...

    All staff were very courteous and provided wonderful hospitality. Dinner served in the Room was delicious, and we were able to relax and enjoy it at our own pace. The view of Mt. Fuji from the rooftop was truly moving. We also enjoyed a walk along Lake Kawaguchi right in front of the Accommodation, and strolled as far as nearby Asama Shrine—walking while looking at Mt. Fuji was a delight. The Onsen was very pleasant, with the perfect temperature for me. I accidentally left something behind at the end of our stay, but you responded immediately and even sent it to my home—thank you so much, and I’m truly sorry for the trouble. It’s an Accommodation I would love to stay at again. Congratulations to the proprietress on celebrating your 77th birthday, and please keep up the great work for many years to come.

    Feeling like seeing ...

    Feeling like seeing Mt. Fuji, I decided to visit Lake Kawaguchi for an autumn trip and stayed one night at "Maruei" after reading reviews about their excellent service. As the reviews mentioned, everyone was incredibly kind and attentive, making my stay truly pleasant. The moment I entered the room and saw Lake Kawaguchi through the large window, I couldn't help but exclaim, "Wow, amazing!" I also enjoyed having a relaxing meal in the room after a long time—it was wonderful. Unfortunately, I didn't get to see Mt. Fuji this time, so I'm already planning to visit again and stay at "Maruei." Take care of yourselves, everyone. Thank you for your hospitality!

    Excellent Accommodation

    The staff's service was excellent. There was no unpleasant feeling at all. The room had large windows with a great view of Lake Kawaguchi right in front. The meals were delicious. It’s rare for a Ryokan to have an 11:00 AM checkout, allowing for a relaxing morning bath and leisurely time. Despite its 70-year history, the interior was impressively clean. The rooftop observatory of the Hotel was also wonderful. I would love to stay again!

    Meals were served in...

    Meals were served in a private room, but the attendant assigned to us was far from satisfactory. Despite being with a child, when our 1-year-old accidentally knocked their uneaten dessert onto the floor, the attendant ignored it and continued explaining the menu as if nothing had happened. The proprietress was sitting in the lobby wearing a kimono, crossing her legs on a chair while looking at her phone. It gave me the impression that proper staff training might not be prioritized here. It’s unfortunate because there were some staff members who provided excellent service.

    It was a flawless and excellent accommodation.

    We stayed as a couple and had a wonderful experience filled with exceptional hospitality. The meals were delivered to our Room this time, and every dish was absolutely delicious. The bath facilities included an open-air bath on the 5th floor, a large public bath on the 1st floor, and several private open-air baths. Since the men's and women's baths switch between night and morning, we couldn't try them all but thoroughly enjoyed what we experienced. Above all, the Hotel staff's attentive and heartfelt service brought us great comfort. We will definitely stay again!

    Not as much as the Review...

    I made a reservation because the reviews were good, but my impression is that everything was average. There are many foreign guests. The food had volume, but the content was not luxurious. The service was straightforward, and I didn't feel much hospitality.

    A Trip for Two with My Mother

    I made a reservation here because the reviews were good. From arrival to departure, we received excellent service. The room offered a view of Lake Kawaguchi, and from the observatory, you can see Mount Fuji right in front of you. The bath and meals were very good, and the amenities were plentiful everywhere, which was really appreciated. All the staff were cheerful and polite. Check-out was at 11 am, so we enjoyed a walk after breakfast. Some of the room facilities seemed a bit old and had some issues, so I deducted one point for the facilities, but I was more than satisfied with everything else. My mother was also very satisfied and said she would like to repeat with the whole family next time. We look forward to the next opportunity. Thank you to everyone at Maruei.
