The quality of the hot spring water was excellent.
The staff worked very hard. Some seemed like part-time university students and were a bit inexperienced at times, but they left a positive impression. The Onsen was excellent, with abundant natural spring water, and it left my skin feeling smooth. What was disappointing was that the open-air bath in the Room had a great atmosphere but was too hot to use. I started to regret choosing an expensive Room with an open-air bath, but I managed to cool it down by running shower water into it. Since it is natural spring water, this may be unavoidable, but some measures are needed to lower the temperature. The private bath was at just the right temperature.

A scenic Accommodation with breathtaking views at the river’s source
After about an hour on the Shuttle Service bus from Minobu Station, this luxurious Accommodation suddenly appears deep in the mountains. The lush greenery and the sound of the river were truly refreshing. I had often heard my parents say they spotted it during a drive many years ago, so I visited to check it out. The Room was spacious, and I had a very comfortable stay. I thought my elderly parents would enjoy this Accommodation as well, so I made a Reservation for next week too.

Guinness World Records–Certified Ryokan
The Onsen was outstanding. If available, the private baths can be used freely, and there are many of them. Being able to check availability next to the elevator was very convenient. They are almost too spacious for one person, but bathing while looking out over the clear stream was wonderful. If I had to mention one drawback, it’s that the property is quite far from Minobu Station and there are many dump trucks on the road. I don’t feel like driving there in my own car, so I expect I will use the Shuttle Service again next time. We stayed with you this time to celebrate our golden wedding anniversary. While we’re still healthy, we’ll do our best to visit again. Thank you very much.

The bath is excellent.
We stayed overnight for a pilgrimage to Mount Minobu. The property has been renovated, and the interior was very clean and beautiful. The meals were plentiful and delicious. For us in our 60s, dinner was almost too much. With an IKYU Plan, we received a half-size bottle of wine, and with the Diamond Member benefit, we were also served a full-size bottle. Since we couldn’t drink that much, we took the full-size bottle home as a souvenir. The staff were also very pleasant. As for the Room air conditioning, it seems to be like central heating with no individual temperature control. The changing area at the bath and the dining area were air-conditioned, but perhaps because it was cool outside, using the Room air conditioner felt like heating; it was hot when sleeping, so we adjusted by opening the window. It was a night accompanied by the sound of the river. Breakfast was very delicious. It was just a one-night trip, but we had great weather and it turned out to be an excellent journey.

An annual tradition
We stay here every year around this time to celebrate my mother’s birthday. The Accommodation has a very calm atmosphere, and we were very satisfied with both the bath and the meals, making it a wonderful trip. We are also grateful for the birthday gift you gave my mother. We look forward to staying with you again.

It’s located deep in...
It’s located deep in the mountains, but it was an Accommodation well worth visiting. Above all, the Onsen is wonderful. The air is, of course, clean, and the view outside the window is beautiful as well. The meals were delicious and very satisfying. I wasn’t fully satisfied with the futon mattress—if it had been a bit more comfortable to sleep on, it would have been perfect.

We had a comfortable stay.
When I visited previously, it was for a company event so I don’t remember much, but this time the Facility had just been renovated and I had a very comfortable stay. The Room service staff were attentive, and I was able to enjoy mealtimes pleasantly as well. Above all, the quality of the Onsen and the layout of the baths were excellent—I left wishing I could have stayed for several days, as one day felt far too short. Thank you very much for your hospitality.

Truly deep in the mountains
This was an Accommodation I’d wanted to stay at for a long time, so we visited after its renovation to celebrate an anniversary. It was deep in the mountains and quite far, but the Onsen, meals, and Room were all excellent. They upgraded our Room, and we were able to relax with in-room dining. The Onsen was not crowded and felt just right; we enjoyed the mountain views and the pleasure of having nothing around. On the way home, we stopped by Minobusan Kuonji Temple to see its 400-year-old weeping cherry tree before heading back. It was a wonderful trip.

Enjoyed the Onsen and meals.
I chose this place based on good reviews from an acquaintance. It’s about a one-hour drive through winding mountain roads from Minobu, deep in the mountains where bears might appear, but upon arrival by car, I was warmly welcomed by about five staff members. Check-in was done directly in the Room with a detailed explanation provided. The hot spring quality and bath were excellent, and both the quantity and taste of the meals were outstanding. I would love to visit again.

Thank you very much for your kind support.
We stayed with our children and family. The bath was excellent, and the meals, made with carefully selected mountain ingredients, were outstanding. This was our second visit, and we look forward to staying again.

Please extend the morning bath hours.
The bath, food, and service are excellent, but there is just one point. The morning bath time ends at 8:00 AM; it would be great if it could be extended until 9:30 AM, 30 minutes before check-out. I would like to take another bath after breakfast.

The Oldest Ryokan in the World
The facility shows signs of aging, with some areas in need of repair, but efforts to maintain cleanliness were evident. The staff were extremely polite and natural, without the overly formal demeanor sometimes found at H Resorts. The Onsen quality was excellent, though I was slightly concerned about the flooring in the large hinoki bath. Some issues like sliding door fittings might be resolved through DIY by staff, but they may already be busy with other services. The meals were satisfying in both quality and quantity. With no major attractions nearby, it is an ideal place to relax and enjoy the Onsen at leisure.

Stayed at the world's oldest Onsen accommodation.
I fulfilled my long-time wish to stay at Nishiyama Onsen Keiunkan and stayed for two nights. From there, I was also able to visit Hirogawara in the Southern Alps. It is one of the most remote locations in Japan, surrounded by lush greenery, offering an abundance of skin-friendly alkaline onsen water flowing directly from the source. Paired with meticulously prepared ultimate kaiseki cuisine, it was the best experience among all the onsen I have visited so far. The accommodation welcomes many international guests and provides exceptional hospitality with great attention to detail.

The Onsen is wonderful.
We visited again during Golden Week to enjoy the wonderful Onsen. We were also very grateful that our requests from the previous stay were properly addressed. However, we noticed an error in the Room assignment for meals and mentioned it in the feedback form. Additionally, we realized that we did not receive the Diamond benefit wine this time. Overall, we were satisfied, but both visits left a slightly disappointing impression due to minor issues.

Second time
As expected from a long-established Hotel, the cuisine, Room, and bath were excellent. The service provided by the attendant was particularly outstanding. I will definitely use this Hotel again.

Comfortable Accommodation
Located deep in the mountains, this place offers beautiful mountain views and the soothing sound of a river. The Facility is old but well-maintained for a comfortable stay. The meals were delicious and served in private rooms, which was very pleasant. It was a nice touch to find a small snack waiting in the Room after dinner. Improved lighting could enhance the presentation of the dishes even more. The staff were kind and attentive. While there weren’t many surprises beyond expectations, it was still a satisfying experience overall.

The Onsen is excellent.
Bokei no Yu offers a superb open-air Onsen with natural flowing hot spring water continuously poured into wooden tubs, allowing you to enjoy the sounds of the river and immerse yourself in nature. The meals were satisfying Japanese cuisine. I would love to visit again.

Reviews of Keiun-kan
There are three baths on the 4th floor and three on the 1st floor (including two private baths), offering various ways to enjoy. For example: moving from the open-air bath on the 1st floor to the indoor bath on the 4th floor, or from the open-air bath to an indoor bath on the same 4th floor. Soaking in a bath while listening to the sound of a mountain stream and birdsong was truly wonderful. We were able to enjoy a very luxurious time without any crowding with other guests in the baths. Thank you very much!

I stayed in Room 305...
I stayed in Room 305, Kitadake. The roads leading to the accommodation were narrow in some places, and I encountered large dump trucks from the linear Shinkansen construction several times. However, there were guides stationed at key points, so I was able to arrive without stress. The staff provided attentive service from the moment of arrival, which made me feel at ease. The room faced Hayakawa River and had a wonderful atmosphere. Although the building is old with some structural issues, it was clean and comfortable with sufficient amenities like yukata and towels. The open-air bath in the room was spacious and allowed me to enjoy natural onsen water directly sourced from its spring. All indoor water supply came from onsen water as well, making it drinkable. The private open-air bath "Kawaoto" featured a large stone tub close to the river for an even more dynamic experience. Bamboo trees nearby added charm as warblers sang continuously. Dinner was excellent in both quality and quantity, while breakfast was also delicious. There were several foreign guests staying as well; however, it remained very quiet with only the sound of the river flowing by—a perfect escape into extraordinary tranquility. The hospitality provided by all staff members was exceptional and highly commendable. I hope this oldest accommodation in Japan continues to preserve its unique charm for many years to come. It’s a place I would love to visit again!

One word
Felt like a hidden gem, but not at all. The photos on IKYU and the actual Room differ significantly, which was disappointing. Being "the most commercialized in the world" holds no meaning. It's a place for unaware foreigners to visit. Cleaning in hidden areas is poor. Floating grime in the bath is unacceptable, etc. Overall, IKYU overrates Keitonkaku too much. The staff are kind and friendly though.

It was the best accommodation located in a secluded mountain retreat.
Truly the best experience in one word. The quality of the onsen, the staff's hospitality, the culinary sense, the cleanliness of the building, and the abundance of private baths and large public baths were all perfect and exceptional. The journey to get there was a bit nerve-wracking, but I felt so relieved when I arrived safely. The onsen in our room had a slightly high source temperature, making it difficult to soak for long periods. However, since it was a bit chilly outside, I enjoyed going in and out repeatedly. What surprised me most was that even the shower provided water directly from the hot spring source! While many accommodations offer natural flowing hot springs, having it come from the shower as well was a first-time experience for me and made me very excited. The staff member who served our meal was from overseas but spoke clearly with great politeness and provided wonderful service. The authentic Japanese course meal featured incredibly flavorful dashi broth. Despite being traditional Japanese cuisine, there were occasional playful elements like junk food-inspired touches or refreshing sorbet as palate cleansers—everything left us completely satisfied. When we returned to our room after dinner, we found that futons had been laid out for us—so fluffy that I slept soundly through the night. Every detail showcased impeccable taste; this is truly an accommodation I'd love to visit again! For this level of satisfaction at such a price point—it’s unbeatable value for money. For those considering staying here or those who love onsens—I highly recommend choosing a room with an open-air bath attached!

Rude service and a building that doesn't convey any sense of history.
This hotel is referred to as the "world's oldest property," but the building lacks any historical charm. On the contrary, it is deteriorating and almost shabby. The onsen is decent, but the meals are at best average. However, the biggest issue with this hotel is its service. Most of the staff are foreign workers, which is ironic for a hotel that prides itself on "Japanese hospitality." While I understand that there is a severe labor shortage in Japan today, proper training should still be provided to employees. From what I observed, many foreign staff members have little command of Japanese, their pronunciation is poor, and they merely memorize manuals without being able to answer questions. Particularly problematic was a female staff member at the front desk who could speak English. Her attitude was very cold and rude towards non-Japanese guests. I lodged a complaint about this matter; however, the manager was absent that day. After insisting strongly, I finally managed to speak with her over the phone. While I appreciate having my room upgraded, honestly speaking, it wasn't what I sought after—I expected warm Japanese-style hospitality. The next day when meeting directly with her in person she offered no proper apology nor wore traditional attire or even hotel uniform—just casual clothes—which indicates she did not take this issue seriously herself. Unfortunately there are numerous problems within this Hotel; fundamentally stemming from management either neglecting or completely disregarding quality service standards altogether. I do not recommend this Hotel for those who cannot speak Japanese because complaints will not be accepted by front desk due to “manager’s inability” in English language skills alone! Additionally even native speakers should lower expectations regarding “warm hospitality” since most staff consist mainly foreigners whose proficiency level remains quite poor overall!

Slowly, quietly
I believe this is the sixth time, and we have used it for our company trips, remembering that the customer satisfaction was very high. This time, too, we had a very pleasant stay. In fact, it took about four hours to get there this time, and we were talking about it being the last time, but after arriving at the Stays, taking a bath, and relaxing over a meal, we changed our minds and decided to come again. They also carefully accommodated my allergies, and we left the Property satisfied. It was a slow and truly quiet stay.

A hidden hot spring where you can feel hospitality
I stayed for two nights at the end of the year. On the way there, I was nervous about the mountains and cliffs, but upon arriving at the Property, it felt like a different world with a deep sense of history and beautiful scenery. I often visit Onsen, but I felt that the quality of the Onsen here was truly wonderful. My family also bathed more than usual, and I personally felt my body relax and stay warm for a long time. In the morning, we were able to see wild monkeys and deer from our Room, which was a moving experience for the whole family. The meals were very elaborate, delicious, and gentle on the body. The young staff's guidance was excellent, and their heartfelt words were lovely. The foreign staff members also had a pleasant demeanor that conveyed a sense of hospitality. We are grateful for the various services provided. Lastly, thank you again for delivering the forgotten items. It is a Property I would like to visit again. Thank you very much.

You can drink Onsen water.
As it is listed in the Guinness World Records as the world's oldest property, my husband wanted to stay, so we made a reservation. It wasn't in the form of Asuka period architecture, but a modern, comfortable property. It was nice to enjoy meals in a private room and savor them slowly while watching TV. It was also nice that the private bath was free. There were five baths in total, and the onsen water was drinkable. I didn't know there was a water dispenser with onsen water on the relaxation floor on the 4th floor, so I ended up drinking the shower water. It was written that it is effective for obesity and diabetes, so I look forward to it if I have another opportunity. I overheard the front desk talking with other guests, and it seems they will have a grand reopening next year, so I would like to visit again after the renovation. I deducted one star because: There was no explanation for the private bath, and I had to go to the front desk to get the key after realizing there wasn't one when I went to the bath, resulting in less time to enjoy it. There was a hole in the shoji screen. Overall, it was worthy of being listed as a 5-star property, and I had a wonderful time. I look forward to staying again.

The bath was wonderful.
- I thought the bath was wonderful. - I felt that both dinner and breakfast were of lower quality than I expected (the Hida beef lava grill was delicious). - The service was casual, which was appreciated for families with children. On the other hand, I felt the explanation of the dishes was lacking.

Accommodation in the Mountains
This accommodation caught my attention as it appeared in searches for large baths and saunas. I arrived before 3 PM and was promptly shown to my room without any wait. However, the sauna on the 4th floor was out of order, and the sauna on the 1st floor alternated access at 8 PM. Since I had been drinking, I decided to go the next morning at 5 AM, only to find a sign stating that the sauna operates from 3 PM to 10 PM. There were no massage therapists available either, leaving me wondering why I traveled so far. The room was upgraded to a slightly larger one, with accommodation costing just under ¥60,000. There were no bath towels provided in the large bath area, and the refrigerator was empty—making me question its rating of 4.54 stars. That said, the staff's hospitality was truly excellent!

The quality of the hot spring is outstanding, making it worth a visit just for that. The meals are elegant and sufficiently portioned. It would be appreciated if the breakfast time could be set a little earlier (currently at 8:00 and 8:30).

Very satisfied. Especially the Onsen is as wonderful as its reputation.
Satisfied with everything: rooms, service, onsen, facility, and meals. The onsen, in particular, was as wonderful as its reputation suggests. The meal service was handled by a foreign staff member, who was kind and very pleasant. The property is located deep in the mountains. In times when there were no cars and roads or tunnels were not developed, reaching that place must have been difficult. Even so, for over 1000 years, many people, including renowned warlords like Takeda Shingen, have visited seeking the waters, so the benefits of the onsen must indeed be remarkable. The road to the property has a very high volume of large dump trucks, so caution is needed when driving.
