    Accommodation with Delicious Cuisine

I stayed during the peak of a heat wave. The entire main building, a Registered Tangible Cultural Property, was very hot, and the 10-tatami Room I had originally reserved got so much sun that the air conditioner couldn’t keep up—it felt like a steam bath. They kindly changed my Room to an 8-tatami one at short notice, but I was very disappointed because I had really wanted to stay in that original Room. Although I felt sad at first, the Onsen was wonderful and the food was delicious, so in the end I was very satisfied. Everyone at the Accommodation was extremely kind, and next time I’d like to stay in that Room when it isn’t midsummer.

Please make sure the bath is ready to use.

Please have the bath ready for use when guests arrive. The open-air bath in the Room was not prepared, and we had to wait 2 hours to use it. Since there was no other choice, we went to the public bath, but then the boiler was not running and no hot water came out of the shower. I came here to take a bath.

The Room atmosphere and the Onsen were excellent. The food was also delicious. I had a very comfortable stay. I would have liked one more amenity to enjoy, such as a massage chair. As for drinks, there were no single-serving sake bottles or wine by the glass, so it was hard to enjoy different types of alcohol when traveling alone.

I wanted to enjoy the Onsen, and since there were four types, I was able to soak plenty. Both dinner and breakfast were served in the Room, so I could eat at a relaxed pace. Everything was delicious. Recommended for anyone looking for a calm, traditional Japanese-style Ryokan.

    A fine, historic Ryokan

The Ryokan is historic and old, but it was well maintained and we had a comfortable stay. Above all, the Onsen was amazing! At night, the Yu-kake Festival happened to be taking place, so we had a fun time even though it was a bit nerve-wracking. This time we stayed with breakfast only, but the miso soup packed with clams was absolutely delicious. We’d love to stay again!

It was a very satisfying mother-and-daughter trip.

I stayed here with my mother. Just as the Reviews said, everything was very well maintained, every meal was delicious, and the bath was clean and comfortable, so we could relax and enjoy it at our own pace. The garden and the interior design of the walkways were also wonderful, giving us many ways to enjoy our stay. All of the staff provided pleasant and welcoming service. My mother was very satisfied and liked it so much that she said she wants to come again. Thank you for creating such a lovely space.

    It was a wonderful accommodation.

I’ve been to Yugawara two or three times, and this was by far the best Accommodation. It may even be the best among all the places I remember staying at. The proprietress, attendants, and staff were attentive and thoughtful, anticipating our needs before we even asked. Even though they must have been busy, they never made it feel that way, which I found impressive. I stayed with my elderly father and my younger brother in his late 30s, and the meal portions suited our ages perfectly. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious. The hot spring is said to be slightly diluted because the source is 70°C, but the water felt soft on contact, and after a while my skin became nicely moisturized. The quality of the spring water is excellent. It never felt crowded, so we could soak in peace. I was a bit worried because the Room we chose said it had no toilet or bath, but there was a washbasin right next to the Room entrance/exit area. Everything was extremely well cleaned and spotless, so there was no stress at all. For anyone who wants a quiet, relaxing stay in Yugawara, I think Fujitaya is an excellent choice.

    Comfort of Traditional Architecture

The Room was built in 1929, yet it has been so carefully maintained and cleaned that you hardly feel the passage of nearly 100 years. We were told that even these intricate shoji screens are re-papered every year. Surrounded by meticulously crafted details—kumiko latticework, openwork designs, and the tokonoma alcove—the handmade dishes were truly exceptional. Enjoying Japanese cuisine in a traditional tatami Room is calming and deeply soothing. There is something about this atmosphere that modern architecture simply cannot surpass. The baths include an open-air bath, a large public bath, and two private baths; all offer high-quality spaces with a serene feel. The water temperature was perfect as well. I only visit an Onsen two or three times a year, but among the Onsens I’ve been to in recent years, this was the best. I’d love to return soon.

The hot spring water is excellent.

I stayed with my wife. We had a slightly unusual dinner menu—Wagyu hitsumabushi—and both the idea and the taste were excellent. As for the baths, I used the hinoki-wood bath, the large public bath, and the open-air bath for a total of three times, and all of them had wonderful water quality and atmosphere. It was my first time visiting Yugawara, and it had a calmness different from Atami or Hakone; I felt it truly is an Onsen town loved by great writers. Thank you very much.

The private hot spring source is wonderful, and the meals are delicious!

This was my repeat stay. The property has a historic atmosphere, is well cleaned, and feels very tidy. The Room was spacious, and I used the toilet and washbasin comfortably. Overall, it was very good. However, the pillow was quite low—I’d be happy if there were options to choose from. Also, since I have knee issues, I would appreciate being seated at a table with chairs. It seems there are also setups where the low table can be lifted… The Onsen still has wonderful water as always. I soaked many times. I understand that water is added, which is a bit disappointing. But if the source is too hot, it can’t really be helped. The meals were excellent!! Did the head chef change? It felt even better than last time. The sashimi in particular was outstanding—it’s been a while since I’ve had such good sashimi at an Accommodation recently. The tuna, white fish, and shrimp were all delicious! With the other dishes as well, you can really tell how skilled the chefs are—truly wonderful. Thank you for accommodating my dislikes. The staff service was also very good. I’d like to visit again!

This was our first time staying here. We made a Reservation to celebrate my spouse’s birthday, and we were very satisfied with the courteous service. As the building is registered as a national cultural property, we really felt its history. It was wonderful to spend a quiet, relaxing time together. It was a bit disappointing that the Onsen in both the open-air bath and the large public bath was not free-flowing, but I understand it may be unavoidable. Above all, the meals were absolutely delicious! We could feel the chef’s careful craftsmanship—the dishes were beautiful, the grilled fish was cooked perfectly, and even the dashi seasoning was delicate. We truly enjoyed everything as a couple. It made for a wonderful celebration, and we’re glad we stayed here.

A Ryokan with a calm atmosphere and a sense of history. With excellent hot spring water quality, this Accommodation makes you want to bathe again and again. The cuisine, service, and amenities are all top-notch. I would like to visit again when I want to relax and unwind.

    A Cozy Long-Established Ryokan

Thank you for your hospitality. My wife and I stayed here together. The building is old, but in a good way it has character, and it is kept very clean—an excellent Ryokan for those who love traditional Japanese inns. The kaiseki meal was carefully prepared dish by dish, and we truly enjoyed it while feeling the chef’s thoughtful attention. Our attendant was a lovely woman from Nepal, and her attentiveness was even more impressive than many Japanese staff; at key moments she was supported by a woman who seemed to be the proprietress, which made our stay very comfortable. They also have their own hot spring source, so the private bath is free-flowing; the large public bath is heated but still felt almost entirely free-flowing—wonderfully pleasant water. A good old-fashioned Japanese Ryokan that we would love to visit again. P.S. Yugawara had fewer inbound visitors than Hakone, so we could relax and enjoy a quieter stay—it’s a hidden gem.

    The bath was absolutely wonderful!

This is a historic Ryokan with a long history. I stayed in a 10-tatami Room in the main building to experience the Registered Tangible Cultural Property building. The building has wonderful character, from the transom carvings and sliding-door locks to the garden view from the veranda windows. Since it was winter, a kotatsu was also prepared in the Room. During my stay, I was kindly looked after by an attendant (I believe she was the proprietress) along with a young trainee, who carefully assisted with meals and laying out and putting away the futons. Meals were brought to my Room piping hot with steam rising, and there was more than enough food—everything was delicious. The bath I had been most looking forward to had beautifully clear water, and it felt very well maintained and clean. The indoor bath is deep with plenty of water, so you can soak up to your shoulders comfortably. In the open-air bath, the washing area floor is heated, so my feet never felt cold while using it. I used the baths three times, and each time I didn’t run into anyone else—it felt like having them all to myself. Relaxing in such a charming Room under the kotatsu made for an unhurried stay and a wonderful memory.

I’d love to stay here again.

The host was very kind, and we were able to stay comfortably. There were two minor points that stood out: it would have been even better if a humidifier had been available. Since we stayed in winter and used the heating, the Room felt a bit dry. Also, although Wi‑Fi was provided, the connection was unstable—perhaps because our Room was at the back—so we could hardly use it, which was disappointing.

    A Historic Ryokan in Yugawara

For a mother–daughter trip with my 20-year-old daughter, we chose Yugawara, which is close to Yokohama. My daughter had only stayed at Hotels before, so this was her first stay at a Ryokan. It isn’t new, but everything was clean and well maintained. Both the open-air bath and the indoor bath felt like a comfortable size. Perhaps because the Ryokan isn’t large, the baths were never crowded and we could soak in peace. The Room and hallways had lovely details, such as the subtle craftsmanship of the shoji latticework. Meals were served in our Room for both dinner and breakfast. The seasoning suited our taste—light yet full of dashi flavor. The homemade pickles (especially the celery), the small dried fish (with a gentle shiso flavor), the breakfast omelet-style rolled egg, and other simple dishes were unbelievably delicious—we were truly impressed. The grilled split horse mackerel at breakfast was also so good that it may have been the best I’ve ever had. We felt that both the proprietress (?) and all staff worked with great care and courtesy. Even when making up the futon bedding, everything was done thoroughly down to every detail. It also felt unusual—in a good way—for staff to open and close the storm shutters for us; both my daughter and I found it memorable. We had a relaxing and wonderful stay. It was our first time in Yugawara, but we’re glad we could stay at Fujitaya—thank you very much.

An accommodation embodying the heartfelt charm of the hot spring town, Yugawara.

The natural flowing Onsen water is simply outstanding. With a soft yet robust quality unique to Yugawara, you'll instantly feel you've made the right choice the moment you step in. The dedication to proper Onsen use is genuine, making it perfect for those seeking an authentic hot spring experience. The building and facilities are not new, but they exude the charm of traditional Japanese architecture, which adds to Fujitaya's appeal. Meals are plentiful and meticulously prepared with care. While you may occasionally hear sounds from neighboring rooms, the overall tranquility and atmosphere more than make up for it. This accommodation may not suit those seeking luxury or modern amenities, but as a retreat for adults looking to enjoy authentic Onsen and peaceful moments, it is exceptionally well-crafted—a true gem representing Yugawara's essence.

    A Memorable Overnight Stay

This Ryokan had caught our attention for a long time, and we finally stayed here to celebrate our 47th wedding anniversary. The historic charm of the Ryokan is undeniable, and everything from the Onsen, meals, to room service deserves five stars. If you visit Yugawara, we highly recommend staying here. They also prepared an anniversary plate for us this time. It became a truly memorable one-night trip. Thank you very much!

    For honoring your parents

In October, I went on a trip with three friends to celebrate a 60th birthday and was amazed by the excellent value for money, the wonderful service from the staff, the delicious meals, and the high quality of the onsen water. Because of this experience, we stayed at Hagoromo for two nights on December 11th and 12th. Since my father is over 90 years old, we usually book rooms with an open-air bath when reserving an onsen. However, considering that outdoor baths might be too much for him during this season, we reserved a room with an indoor bath instead. As expected, my parents loved it and even mentioned wanting to come back around March next year. They were also deeply impressed by the food and kept praising how skilled the chef is. Thank you very much!

    Thank you for your patronage.

I stayed with my mother and brother, making it a group of three. The Onsen had excellent water quality and was very clean, allowing us to relax and enjoy it thoroughly. Dinner included a wide variety of dishes, and although we were concerned about finishing everything, we enjoyed every bite until the end. The rice, including breakfast, was particularly delicious. The atmosphere and hospitality of the accommodation were outstanding, making it a truly wonderful trip. Thank you for your care!

    Had the best time!

While being a traditional Ryokan, it is not overly formal, offering a comfortable atmosphere with attentive and thoughtful service that left me deeply impressed. The meals were absolutely delicious! Though not extravagant ingredients, the freshness of the produce and the skilled cooking were truly enjoyable. I would love to visit again!

This type of accommodation is relaxing.

Main Building Room A ryokan with a charming aged character. We enjoyed four different baths: a large bath, an open-air bath, and two private baths, each offering unique experiences. The new wooden slats in the hinoki bath and the design of the large bath were particularly delightful. As we checked in late, we only had breakfast, which was served in our room and delicious—grilled fish, clam soup, tamagoyaki (Japanese omelet), and more. The 10-tatami mat room is not brand new but much cleaner than expected from the photos, with high ceilings and a spacious feel. I was initially concerned about staying near the road due to some reviews mentioning noise; however, while you can hear cars passing after opening the shutters in the morning, it’s quiet at night with only the gentle sound of a nearby river. Once opened during daylight hours, fresh air and sunlight make for a very pleasant room atmosphere. While I’m unsure if this applies to all of Yugawara or just this ryokan specifically, I truly felt their warm hospitality throughout my stay. I now understand why there are so many repeat visitors—it’s definitely a ryokan I’d like to visit again!

    Had a great time!

We stayed as a family of three (my wife, son, and I) in a corner room on the second floor (Tatsuta). Perhaps due to the typhoon, there didn’t seem to be many other guests. There was no formal check-in process at the front desk; we were immediately guided to our room, which made things very convenient. (We filled out the accommodation card in the room.) This time, we wanted to relax and unwind in a calm onsen town. We searched for a traditional Japanese ryokan and decided to make a reservation here based on its promising appearance online. It was our first stay, so we had mixed feelings of anticipation and uncertainty. However, not only did it meet our expectations, but we were also deeply comforted by the warm hospitality of the proprietress. Her thoughtful conversations conveyed genuine care and made us feel truly welcomed. The building itself is designated as an important cultural property with over 100 years of history and tradition. The furnishings throughout exuded charm from another era—such as Showa-style sliding shutters and alcoves—which evoked nostalgia for us. One surprise was seeing calligraphy by Admiral Heihachiro Togo displayed in the hallway! It was inscribed during "the autumn of Xin Hai," which I assumed referred to 1911—a fascinating discovery since he apparently stayed in this same Tatsuta room! The large public bathhouse and open-air bath operated on an alternating schedule between genders; I enjoyed both thoroughly thanks to their spaciousness and serene atmosphere. It felt like having them all to ourselves! Additionally, there were two private baths available. As for meals—both quantity and quality exceeded expectations! The sashimi featured fresh ingredients alongside many homemade dishes that carried heartfelt flavors. Breakfast stood out especially with its clam miso soup—it left me truly impressed. Considering that prices weren’t overly expensive either, my overall rating is perfect! I’d love to return when seeking another relaxing getaway experience here again soon!

The meals, onsen, and accommodation were all excellent. I have stayed here four times in the past two months. The dishes with rich dashi flavor were delicious and conveyed the chef's passion. The water was soft, and the view from the reserved bath was wonderful. The building, with touches of Taisho Romanticism, harmonized beautifully with the surrounding scenery, and the attentive service from the staff made for a very pleasant experience. I am grateful to have found a ryokan that makes me want to return again soon.

Traditional Ryokan with slightly hot baths

Authentic Ryokan with natural flowing Onsen. The room exudes a sense of history, is well-maintained, and offers a comfortable stay. The staff accommodated requests like leaving the futon laid out, which was very helpful. Relaxing in the Onsen until check-out was simply the best! As for the Onsen, the large communal bath was slightly on the hotter side, especially the open-air bath which felt quite hot. The covered large bath had a more moderate temperature. It seems unavoidable as spring temperatures rise and affect the source temperature. Still, it's delightful to enjoy an unaltered Onsen without added water. Regarding meals, they were average overall. It would be nice to have at least one standout dish that leaves an impression. The staff's service was prompt and excellent. They kindly fulfilled requests such as providing an extension cord for power outlets—truly commendable! This is a great accommodation with its own private hot spring source—a wonderful experience!
