I was satisfied with everything—the Room, meals, and Onsen. I have stayed in Hakone many times, and this ranks among the best; I would like to visit again. However, it was difficult to reach you by phone and I could not confirm details, so I would appreciate improvements in that area.

We had a wonderful time. This is just my personal opinion, but for guests who don’t drink alcohol, it would have been better if dinner were a little less lightly seasoned with salt. Breakfast was delicious. Everything else was perfect.

Get-Well Gift
It was our first time back at Suishoen in a while, and it was even better than we expected. My husband was diagnosed with cancer and his health had worsened significantly, so we thought we might not be able to visit this time either, but we were finally able to come in good health. I’m grateful to God and the medical staff for my husband’s recovery. I’m also grateful to all the staff and to my husband for allowing me to spend such a wonderful time at Suishoen.

This was my first st...
This was my first stay at Suishoen, and it was truly wonderful. For dinner, we happened to be offered an open slot, so they kindly changed our meal from kaiseki to teppanyaki. We chose teppanyaki, and it turned out to be absolutely the right decision. Watching the chef cook right in front of us was entertaining in itself, and each dish was carefully prepared—everything was genuinely delicious. Not only the meat, but also the seafood and vegetables were excellent, and we enjoyed every course without getting tired of it. The pacing of the meal was perfect, and the portions were just right—not too much or too little—so we could enjoy everything through to the end. Breakfast was also very luxurious with a great variety of dishes. Being able to enjoy such a substantial breakfast in the morning felt special, and it was a completely different kind of indulgent time compared with our usual mornings. Not only dinner but breakfast left a strong impression as well. The best part for me personally was the private Onsen in our Room. I could soak whenever I wanted and relax without worrying about anyone else, so I ended up using it many times. Having an Onsen in your Room really is unbeatable. The Ryokan had a calm atmosphere overall, and we were able to take things slowly throughout our stay. The staff were polite and attentive, responding pleasantly to everything we asked for. It’s an Accommodation I’d want to stay at again if I come back to Hakone. The only small issue was that my wife didn’t find the hair iron among the amenities suitable for her. That part was slightly disappointing, but aside from that we were very satisfied. Overall satisfaction was high across the food, Onsen, Room quality, and service—highly recommended if you want a luxurious place to unwind at a relaxed pace. We will definitely stay again.

I was able to relax again this time.
I was so satisfied that every category deserved more stars than I could give. I end up writing the same thing every time, but Chef Morita’s heartfelt cuisine is truly delicious. The staff are pleasant, and the Room felt even cleaner and more refreshed than before. Whenever they show me to my Room, they always check the bath water temperature for me. Lately I haven’t been sleeping deeply, but this time I woke up to the vibration of my Apple Watch alarm. It reminded me again how comfortable the bedding is. The assortment of small appetizer dishes was such a delight. I drank every last drop of the soup broth in the bowl. For the main dish, there was an unbelievably plump and surprisingly large eel—hard to believe it came out of a small hot pot. So delicious. And the low-temperature cooked wagyu was incredibly tender, with a wonderful sauce—I savored it while murmuring “Mmm!” The mixed rice that I always look forward to was great as ever. This time, my new surprise was dessert: the sparkling jelly over the mango bavarois and coconut-pineapple sorbet was—believe it or not—Mitsuya Cider. Delicious (tears). What an amazing combination! The bavarois and sorbet were already excellent on their own, but the Mitsuya Cider made it twice as good. The classic “Sansui Gozen” set meal was also delicious; even though all I did after such a big dinner was sleep, thanks to all those little side dishes and a large portion of black halibut, I ended up eating two bowls of rice (tears).

Thank you for a relaxing stay.
This was my third stay, and my first since the renovation. From the smooth check-in to the relaxing time in a wonderful room, coming here always brings me peace. As always, the food was delicious. I’ve stayed at several Fufu properties, but the cuisine here is still outstanding. The quality of the appetizers is among the best in Japan. I will continue to return, so with high expectations I’ll share a small comment: I understand it’s difficult to secure staff these days, but with more foreign workers, I felt there has been a slight decline in the quality of casual conversation and service manners. Also, while it can’t be helped that there are many insects this season, I would like you to remove large spider webs near entrances such as doors and large dead caterpillars along guest walkways instead of leaving them as they are. (Many staff members walked past large dead insects on walkways without addressing them.) Because this property is so appealing—with great dining, Facilities, and overall charm—it would be a shame if human factors reduced its value. That may sound presumptuous of me to say, but even taking those points into account, it’s still a wonderful place that makes me want to come back again. Thank you very much.

Thank you very much ...
Thank you very much for your hospitality the other day. We love Fufu for its delicious meals and family-friendly atmosphere, and we have been visiting different Fufu properties. This time, we stayed as a couple with our 2-year-old child. Thank you for all your thoughtful care and consideration. The meals were wonderful, and the staff member who assisted us at both dinner and breakfast was also very kind. One thing we noticed was that dust had accumulated on top of the Room’s headboard, and we were also concerned about the pink and black mold in the shower room. We understand there may be signs of aging in the Room, and we apologize for being so particular.

Something feels off.
Honestly… The Reservation center feels unresponsive. The staff are good, but the person in charge of this Accommodation seems to be lacking something. As for the final dessert, I’m not sure what it was supposed to be… It wasn’t terrible, but it wasn’t great either. For the price, it was supposed to be the best Room…

We had a relaxing and enjoyable stay.
It was an almost perfect and very satisfying stay. I enjoyed everything except dinner on the first night. My dissatisfaction with the kaiseki meal may simply reflect my aging palate, but it felt as though the seasoning was adjusted to appeal to international guests and younger diners, which left me quite disappointed. However, on the second night, I was truly impressed by the chef’s careful technique and professionalism. Every dish tasted excellent—nothing to complain about at all. I was also moved by the attentiveness of the assistant manager and managers, as well as the dedicated service provided by your international staff. Thank you very much.

Hakone for the First Time in Two Years
We visited Hakone as a couple for the first time in two years (about our sixth trip overall). Hakone is a classic destination, but even though it’s the same area and the same scenery, we always find something new. The Venetian Glass Museum was especially enjoyable: the familiar ducks welcomed us as usual, there were plenty of events (violin performances, live glass insect-making demonstrations, etc.), and since it was their 30th anniversary, the special course meal was wonderful. As for the Hotel, we’ve stayed at several “Fufu” properties across The whole country over the past few years, but this time Suishoen (run by the same company as Fufu) truly stood out. The hospitality was excellent, and we were very satisfied with the complimentary welcome drink before dinner—just as expected. Dinner was also the best we’ve had within the Fufu group, and we were delighted. It easily ranks in our lifetime top five stays anywhere in the world. P.S. We even found something new on our way home at Suzuhiro Kamaboko’s souvenir shop! Incredibly clear water was flowing through a roadside channel in front of the store (a ditch? an irrigation canal? a drainage channel?). It ran fairly fast and was filled with aquatic plants—cleaner than many small streams—so I was already impressed. Then I spotted what looked like pale blue plastic and felt disappointed… but when I looked closer, it turned out to be tiny freshwater crabs in white and light blue. An unbelievable moment of awe.

I’d love to stay here again and again.
Because our previous stay was so enjoyable, we returned after the renovation. Being able to have both dinner and breakfast served in our Room, along with the late checkout time, allowed us to relax and unwind. The Room had a very calming atmosphere, and it was also meticulously cleaned. The standout was the food. Seasonal ingredients were used generously; in particular, the rice cooked with yellow chives and abalone was delightful, with the pleasant pop of Japanese peppercorns (sansho), and pairing it with nori was exquisite. The horse sashimi we ordered additionally was melt-in-your-mouth delicious. Was the garlic odorless garlic? It paired perfectly with the horse sashimi, sesame oil, and salt—absolutely superb. There were a few moments when communication with the staff was a bit difficult, but they assisted us with warm smiles. We would love to visit again to enjoy the Room, the Onsen, and above all, the wonderful meals. Thank you very much.

Special Accommodation
Any Fufu Accommodation offers a high level of satisfaction, but Suishoen feels especially special and makes me want to come back. The location and Facilities are wonderful, but the best part is the manager and staff. At the bar after dinner, I requested a fruit-based cocktail; they made a delicious drink, and I enjoyed a great time with pleasant conversation. I’m looking forward to returning.

It was a wonderful Accommodation that left a lasting impression.
Rooms and buildings were scattered throughout the garden, so we could always enjoy the beautiful grounds and take a stroll. The building with the dining area and bar was also wonderful, and the view from the windows was stunning. The bar offered complimentary snacks, champagne, and other services until 5:00 PM. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious, and we left completely satisfied. The baths were clean, and we could use them without hardly seeing anyone else. The in-room bath was also excellent. The only slight disappointment was that during meals, dishes and glasses were cleared away a bit too quickly. Also, at night the Room lights turned on by themselves a few times, or the air conditioning switched off, which made it a little difficult to adjust. Other than that, everything about the hospitality and service was outstanding. It was a truly memorable Accommodation.

Excellent!!
The Room, meals, and hot spring were all excellent. The next day, we stayed at the affiliated Fufu Hakone and wondered if it would be similar, but it felt more like siblings than twins—there are some similarities, but also clear differences. Both places share the same outstanding hospitality, which was truly wonderful. We heard that the teppanyaki chef works between Fufu and Suishoen, and since we recognized him, we ended up having a great conversation. We’re planning to visit again around autumn.

Staff
Overall, I thought it was a good Accommodation. However, as is probably the case elsewhere, the foreign staff spoke so fast that it was often hard to understand what they were saying. During meals, phrases like “Please enjoy the aroma” were said as “Please enjoy the smell,” and plates were sometimes cleared even though food was still left on them. It was a little disappointing not to feel the spirit of Japanese hospitality.

Even if it were my last day on earth, I’d choose this place.
It was hospitality unlike anything I’ve experienced in Japan. I run my own customer-facing business as well, and it was truly a learning experience. You’ll definitely want to come back.

A Hotel with Warm, Welcoming Hospitality
I stayed here as a surprise for my boyfriend’s birthday. These days, some Hotels avoid talking more than necessary out of fear of complaints, but everyone here—the front desk staff in the lobby, and the staff at dinner and breakfast—made friendly conversation that helped us truly enjoy our stay. My boyfriend, who loves chatting with Hotel staff, was especially delighted and couldn’t stop praising it. In the large public bath area, bath towels were placed near the mats right after you exit the bath. Since many Hotels place them near the shoe lockers instead, this thoughtful attention to detail really stood out throughout the property. The food was excellent as well—especially the seafood hot pot we ordered as an extra. We were told that rice porridge could also be made upon request, so next time we’d love to try it that way. It was a stay that exceeded the price. The birthday surprise was a huge success! Thank you so much to everyone at the Hotel who took care of us. We would love to visit again.

The meals are delicious.
I was a bit worried that the rapid expansion of the Facility over the past decade might have affected the service or food quality, but I was relieved to find the meals were still delicious as ever. The restaurant’s high alcohol prices were also unchanged (lol). A bottle of Franciacorta was JPY 15,000, but it wasn’t very good—I'd rather have paid JPY 20,000 for Champagne. Most wines by the glass are around JPY 3,000 as well, which is tough pricing for wine lovers. That said, the food portions are generous and the seasoning is gentle and tasty, so overall satisfaction is high. Dinner was great too, but for me breakfast was outstanding. So many carefully prepared side dishes from early morning and delicious rice cooked in a clay pot—it was truly excellent. I’ll definitely come back just to eat again!

Thank you for taking care of us the other day. The meals are simply delicious, which is why we keep coming back. The Facility is clean, and it’s also great that we can enjoy dinner and breakfast at Momiji-tei in a calm atmosphere. All the staff are polite and make us feel very welcome.

Excellent service
We stayed here for our wedding anniversary. Although I’m not particularly fond of Onsen, the private indoor bath was so comfortable that I used it many times. The nationally registered Tangible Cultural Property building has been tastefully renovated in a modern style, and both the “Ryotei Momiji” and the bar have a wonderful atmosphere—I highly recommend experiencing them at least once. The staff’s hospitality was also excellent, kindly accommodating our various requests. My wife and I keep saying we’d love to visit again.

This year again, the three sisters stayed for one night from June 23. This was our fourth visit to Suishoen, and every time we leave, it makes us want to come back. Above all, the meals are outstanding. Every dish prepared by the head chef—both dinner and breakfast—is carefully crafted and truly delicious; for me, it is the best among any Ryokan. Of course, the Room is quiet and relaxing, and the open-air bath in the Room is fed by an Onsen and feels wonderful. The staff are also very pleasant, making this an Accommodation that satisfies us in every way.

Please review and revise your check-in procedure.
This was my first stay in two years, partly because you were renovating. The day after our stay, a typhoon arrived, and as expected we got soaked on the way to the restaurant… (of course this wasn’t the Accommodation’s fault, and we anticipated it). I was looking forward to seeing what had changed. Small details had improved a lot—things like clearer signage for the ice cream in the bath area, and the start of lounge services. The meals maintained their previous standard, which made me happy. (Has breakfast become Japanese-style only? I can understand that as well.) Because this is one of my favorite Accommodations, I’ll say this frankly: check-in is still disappointing. Arriving by the pick-up car was fine, but at the front desk no one assisted us while we were seated (it was the same last time too). Is there no one acting as a coordinator? It seemed that guests who arrived before us were offered drinks (perhaps because they had been kept waiting longer?). I felt there is a need for clearer procedures and staff who can communicate smoothly. Everyone working hard is doing their best, but due to language difficulties it doesn’t always come across well. For example, a guest checking in ahead of us appeared to have trouble walking and was expressing concerns about getting to the restaurant, but communication didn’t go smoothly. I’m sure there are many challenges, but please keep it up. We will visit again.

I enjoy looking for ...
I enjoy looking for accommodations with private open-air baths and free-flowing hot spring water in the rooms around Japan every month, and I think Suishoen’s in-room open-air bath is excellent. I understand it was once the site of a former Mitsui villa, and it truly shows. The only downside is that there are many stairs, which can be tough for older guests. It would be great to have a Shuttle Service between the buildings.

Meal service hours.
Regarding meal service times: although we were seated at 8:00 as scheduled for breakfast, the food was not served until 8:30, so we waited 30 minutes. We appreciate being served freshly prepared dishes, but if there is going to be a wait, we would have preferred to be called once everything was ready. Dinner also took two and a half hours, which left us with the overall impression of having to wait a lot. That said, the food itself was excellent, and we were satisfied with everything else.

Please clearly state that the Facility has significant changes in elevation and many stairs.
We stayed at this Accommodation for 2 nights and 3 days as an anniversary trip with my wife, who has weak legs and a heart condition. Overall, it was a very poor fit for us, and we felt unwelcome throughout our stay. 1. Property layout and Room changes The in-house map on the official website barely showed any stairs, so we could not confirm them in advance. In reality, there were no elevators except in the lobby building, and moving around required many stairs and steep slopes due to significant changes in elevation. I believe we arrived around 14:30. Perhaps because the lobby lounge was full (I’m not sure), we were directed to chairs at the spa reception area instead. We waited there for about 10 minutes, then were told they had opened the bar urgently and that we should move there. After taking the elevator down to the lowest level, we had to go outside and descend multiple flights of stairs within a property with major elevation differences. At the bar, we waited about 30 minutes. We were then told they would take us to our Room—without having completed a proper check-in up to that point. However, the Room we were shown required going down another full floor by stairs; we were told it was on “3F” with no elevator access. Considering my wife’s condition, I asked once to cancel our stay. In the end, they adjusted us to a smaller Room with less burden and we decided to stay, but moving around during our stay—including going to the smoking area—was consistently difficult. 2. Lack of consideration regarding meals and response For dinner, we asked to be moved to a first-floor table seat in order to avoid using stairs; however, everyone around us appeared to be international guests. Many of the dishes served—such as “Shinmaru-imo simmered with mint” and “Paprika castella with basil cheese”—were unfamiliar for Japanese guests, and the seasoning was extremely strong; my wife could only eat about half of it. From the next day onward, we requested lighter seasoning and managed somehow through two nights. 3. Dissatisfaction with Facilities / services The large public bath in the lobby building was very small. While the open-air bath in our Room was comfortable, there were no slippers provided for use on the wooden deck area. Also when requesting an umbrella on a rainy day, it was left at our entrance without any prior notice—another example of insufficient consideration. As people who usually choose places with minimal steps or level changes, I feel it was also our mistake that we failed to recognize how many steps this Accommodation actually has; however while individual staff members did their best on site, overall service left us strongly dissatisfied.

My Beloved Suisyoen
I have stayed at Suishoen many times, and once again I truly appreciated your hospitality during my two-night stay from May 7. I would like to express my sincere gratitude for the consistently warm welcome from all of your staff. Because this is an Accommodation I love so much, I would also like to share a few honest points that stood out, in the hope they may be helpful going forward. Regarding the wait time at check-in, as with my previous visit, there was a period after arrival when we waited in the car. Even during busy hours, having a system that allows for smoother guidance would make the experience even more comfortable from the moment guests arrive. Also, when we were served tea in the lobby, I noticed there was no oshibori. Given your thoughtful hospitality, it would be even more appreciated if an oshibori could be provided as well. As for the yukata, it seemed the design had changed since before; when worn, wrinkles were noticeable in unnatural places, and I was also bothered by wrinkles on the sleeves of the haori. It felt a little disappointing compared with how nice wearing a yukata can be. On the other hand, the pajamas were now a separate top-and-bottom style and were far more comfortable than before—this was a very welcome change. The meals have always been delicious, and I had long been curious about the head chef’s name listed on each menu. This time I was able to greet him directly and speak briefly with him, which made me very happy and left a particularly strong impression. Every dish reflected careful craftsmanship; conversation with our attendant flowed naturally as well, and we enjoyed a luxurious and deeply satisfying time. The open-air bath in our Room was also extremely relaxing—especially bathing in the morning while listening to beautiful wild birdsong. Soaking leisurely in the Onsen became a blissful moment of deep healing for both body and mind. I also heard that all seats at the bar are now non-smoking, so next time I would love to stop by. I am already looking forward to returning again in October—Suishoen is an Accommodation where each visit brings new discoveries and comfort—and I cannot wait until the day I can “come home” again. Unizo.

This is a wonderful Accommodation where you can relax and unwind.
After the renovation, I visited with my husband and was able to relax in the greenery, and the Onsen water quality was excellent, so we returned again right away. As it was a last-minute stay, we were told the dining menu would be the same, but it was so delicious that we would have been happy with the same menu as last time. However, thank you for kindly changing it at short notice. It was wonderful again this time. We visit Hakone every month, and this place was so outstanding that we would like to come every month. All of the staff were also excellent in their service.

A Luxurious Adults-Only Getaway
I had been looking forward to the reopening, so I stayed right when it opened. From check-in, I loved the completely refreshed atmosphere and would love to stay again as soon as possible. All Rooms are suites, and I enjoyed an elegant time soaking in the in-room open-air Onsen bath again and again. If you want the luxury of doing nothing, Hakone Suishoen is the place! Each dish prepared by the head chef is like a work of art—absolutely delicious—so both my heart and stomach were completely satisfied. Also, just like at Fufu, I love Hakone Suishoen’s onion dressing—it’s so good that I bought some to take home. I also had the chance to speak with the general manager; it was truly insightful, and I’m very grateful for their valuable time. The hospitality of all the staff was wonderful as well, and it’s a place I’d love to stay again in a different season.
