    I felt incredibly relaxed!

    We enjoyed the very quiet and beautiful scenery. The weather was perfect. Although Aichi Prefecture is known for its rich flavors, the cuisine here had a very refined taste, especially the dashi, which was incredibly delicious! The miso soup in the morning was so amazing that I wished I could take the leftovers home in a thermal jar. The rice was fluffy and absolutely perfect! The service was excellent, making our stay very pleasant. We would love to try staying in another Room next time. Thank you for your hospitality!

    A visit to Umi no Sh...

    A visit to Umi no Shougetsu after three months. The scenery has completely shifted from the vibrant summer views of our last visit to the serene autumn landscape. The autumn leaves in the courtyard were stunning. Although it felt like a slightly long gap since our last stay, we were reminded once again how everything at Umi no Shougetsu is perfectly arranged for comfort. Nothing feels overbearing, yet every detail is thoughtfully attended to, making the experience truly relaxing. As always, the head chef's cuisine was exceptional and full of surprises with its variety. Aside from staple dishes, not a single dish repeated from previous visits, leaving us excited each time about what new creations await us this time around. The seafood amuse-bouche with sweet potato sauce was a first for us and absolutely delicious! It had all the flavor of sweet potato without being overly sweet—perfectly complementing the dish as a sauce. Additionally, there were delightful twists like mushrooms in red miso soup—traditional Japanese cuisine with unexpected elements that made every meal an enjoyable surprise. My birthday happened to be approaching during this stay, and I was deeply moved by the thoughtful surprise prepared for me. On top of that, all staff members warmly wished me "Happy Birthday," making it an incredibly memorable and heartwarming experience. Thank you so much!

    An accommodation you'll want to visit again.

    We stayed here to celebrate my daughter's birthday. The weather was perfect, and the view from the window was stunning. We were pleasantly surprised by the complimentary spiny lobster sashimi as a birthday gift—it was absolutely delicious! Also, having an instruction manual for the hairdryer was a thoughtful touch that we appreciated. We would love to stay here again. Thank you for providing such a wonderful space and memorable time!

    Stayed for a Multiple Night Stay for two consecutive years.

    Once a year, we choose a small luxury Ryokan for a family trip. Last year, based on the high reviews on IKYU.com, we stayed at "Umi no 1" at Umi no Shogetsu for a multiple night stay. Our family usually doesn't stay at the same Ryokan twice, but this year we made an exception and returned to "Umi no 1" at Umi no Shogetsu. Here is my review of our stay. Umi no Shogetsu is an intimate Ryokan with only 10 rooms, offering a sophisticated and stylish Japanese-modern atmosphere throughout. The room was spacious and impeccably clean as expected, allowing us to enjoy our time comfortably. Since the Ryokan is located atop a hill, stepping out onto the wooden deck from our room provided breathtaking views of the sea below—large cargo ships and small fishing boats navigating Ise Bay—and even passenger planes preparing to land at Chubu Centrair International Airport in the distance. We relaxed while sipping coffee and taking in these serene sights. One of our key criteria when choosing accommodations is having both an open-air bath in the room and a shower booth. At Umi no Shogetsu, the shower booth is conveniently adjacent to the washroom area, which doubles as a changing space—perfect for quickly rinsing off before soaking in the open-air bath. By the way, they use "ReFa" shower heads. As for dining, meals are crafted by their head chef who trained in Kyoto. The dishes were intricate and refined—on par with those served at renowned Kyoto Kaiseki restaurants—and it was delightful to enjoy such exquisite cuisine within an Onsen accommodation setting. If you're expecting lavish sashimi platters or extravagant boat-style presentations ("funamori"), this might not be your ideal choice; however, their delicate Kaiseki cuisine truly stands out. Lastly but most importantly—the staff! Every member of their team exudes professionalism akin to that found in high-end French restaurants: always smiling warmly with perfect posture while being bright and articulate—a genuinely pleasant experience overall. When my daughter fell ill during our stay and couldn't eat much dinner one evening, they kindly prepared rice porridge for her—a thoughtful gesture that deeply touched us. In summary, Umi no Shogetsu fully utilizes its intimate size to deliver attentive service paired with sophisticated cuisine amidst tranquil surroundings where time seems to slow down—a truly satisfying experience that left us thoroughly impressed!

    The cuisine and service are excellent.

    We stayed as a family and had a very pleasant experience from arrival to departure. The staff provided attentive and thoughtful service, which was truly exceptional.     Exceptional Hospitality

    This was my first time staying at this accommodation. Unfortunately, I wasn't feeling well that day and caused some inconvenience, for which I sincerely apologize.     Highly satisfied!

    We stayed for one night and two days as a group of three. The view from the lobby was spectacular. Our room had an Onsen open-air bath, so we enjoyed watching the sunset and stars while relaxing! The water was clear, gentle, and soothing. We opted for a plan with dinner and breakfast included. They kindly made rice balls from the leftover rice for us to take back to our room, and there was even a complimentary soba noodle service—everything was perfect. The warm hospitality was greatly appreciated as well. Thank you very much for everything. We would love to stay again!

    Relax and rejuvenate your mind and body.

    Unfortunately, we couldn't see the sunset, but the view from the Room and the lukewarm open-air bath were refreshing for both body and mind. With a longer interval between check-in and check-out and fewer shops or Facilities around, we were able to relax and spend quality time in the Room. The chairs and beds in the Room were also very comfortable. The staff were friendly and approachable, creating a pleasant atmosphere. Their sense of maintaining a comfortable distance while being attentive to our timing was impressive. The meals were not made with exclusively luxurious ingredients but highlighted the quality of the ingredients, making them very delicious. Some dishes felt a bit salty or overly elaborate, but the timing of service and presentation were enjoyable. We look forward to visiting again in a different season.

    Thank you for the relaxing time and delicious meals. Even without mentioning it was my birthday, you celebrated as always, and I am filled with gratitude. The Onsen was slightly lukewarm, allowing me to enjoy it at a leisurely pace. While there were many insects like stink bugs visiting, it added to the charm in a way. With the provided net, they can be easily handled, so it wasn't an issue. I look forward to your continued hospitality in the future!

    The Finest Hospitality

    I stayed at the Accommodation "Umi no Shougetsu," which my wife had previously visited and had a great impression of. It was a very quiet and serene Accommodation where time passed slowly, allowing me to completely refresh and forget the hustle and bustle of daily life. During the evening, I was especially moved by the view of the sunset while soaking in the open-air bath for about 30 minutes during magic hour. The meals were beautifully presented, and as expected from being prepared by a head chef from the Kyoto Cuisine Research Association, they were incredibly delicious. As it happened to be my milestone birthday month (70th), I received a special celebration from the Accommodation with a commemorative photo shoot, along with a framed photo as a gift upon departure. Thank you so much to the manager, head chef, and all staff members!

    Family Trip

    I have stayed here multiple times. Every time, I am highly satisfied with the excellent service and delicious meals. After staying at other Ryokans, I sometimes experience swelling in my legs the next day, but that has never happened here.     We were very satisfied with the food, service, room, and facility this time as well. Thank you for your thoughtful arrangements for my wife's birthday. The meals prepared by Chef Tamakubo are always delicious, but this time the dishes like pike conger and lotus root dumplings seemed even more exceptional. Although the recent rise in prices has made both the accommodation fee and additional meal charges quite high, we feel that it is still worth it at this point. We look forward to staying again.     As always, I was very satisfied with the food, service, and facilities, and had a relaxing stay. I hadn't visited in June before, but the June cuisine was also extremely delicious. Just one small point—not enough to deduct any marks—but at check-in, perhaps it was a new male staff member; although I had finished the welcoming daifuku treat, my wife hadn’t even started her tea yet when we were told we would be shown to our room. Normally, even if ready to guide guests to their room, it’s customary to check on their situation or ask if they are ready before proceeding. My wife isn’t particularly attached to tea and didn’t say anything about it—but it did catch my attention. Please provide guidance on this matter! We will visit again in August for my wife's birthday and are looking forward to enjoying your delicious cuisine!

    Premium Accommodation with Ocean View

    It was my first time using this place upon a friend's recommendation. As I had heard, I was completely satisfied with the service, cuisine, room, and scenery. The male staff member who attended to us happened to be from the same hometown and provided kind and polite service with a warm smile, which made the experience very pleasant. Both the manager and head chef came to greet us, allowing for an enjoyable conversation. In a calm atmosphere, my spouse and I were able to enjoy a relaxing trip after quite some time. We hope to visit again in January next year for our 40th wedding anniversary. Thank you very much!

    The Best Accommodation

    The meals were all carefully prepared and delicious. My husband also enjoyed the tasty malt beer. For breakfast, the fluffy omelet was delightful, and we loved grilling various types of dried fish ourselves—everything was absolutely satisfying. The Onsen with a view of the sea was relaxing and left our skin feeling smooth. This was our second stay, and we definitely want to come back again!

    I have visited several times, and the service level remains consistently high before and after the COVID period. In addition to the comfortable maisonette room and delicious meals, the staff's service quality is excellent. The male staff member who served us was attentive and provided hospitality that matched our atmosphere. His comment, "I will be on night duty, so I won't see you at breakfast tomorrow morning, but I hope you have a pleasant stay," reflected a customer-first attitude. The only reason for slightly lowering my rating on food is the high pricing of drink menus—though understandable. Recently, some accommodations in this price range offer inclusive free-flow drinks including alcohol (for example, at an accommodation in Mie I visited last year, beverages including alcohol were available anytime in the lounge or even to take back to your room). While there may be challenges involved in implementing such services here, I hope it can be considered. That said, this accommodation always ensures a comfortable stay—I look forward to visiting again!

    Anniversary & Birthday.

    It had been almost two years since our last visit. We used to come here several times a year, but after being a bit disappointed with the food during our New Year’s stay last time, we hesitated to return. However, for this year’s wedding anniversary, we decided to revisit and reassess the cuisine. The result? Our concerns were completely unfounded, and both of us felt truly relieved. For us, this place is nearly perfect in every aspect—cuisine, location, Onsen, facilities, and the staff's hospitality. Once again, we were very satisfied with our stay.     It was a wonderful stay.

    The view from the private open-air bath in the guest room was breathtaking, accompanied by the soothing sounds of waves, chirping birds, and the refreshing scent of the sea, making it incredibly relaxing. The water temperature was just right, allowing for a long soak without feeling fatigued. Although the Onsen water is diluted and lacks distinctive mineral qualities, it was still very satisfying. The facility was exceptionally clean and quiet, providing a calm atmosphere throughout our stay. I used the large public bath twice and was fortunate to have it all to myself both times, which made it even more enjoyable. Compared to the private open-air bath in my room, I found that its temperature was slightly hotter but equally pleasant. The meals were delicious overall; I especially enjoyed how tasty the rice was. There’s also a thoughtful service where leftover rice can be made into rice balls upon request—a delightful touch! However, I felt that adding some seasonal fruits as part of dessert would enhance satisfaction further. While the sherbet served as dessert tasted good, it left me wanting something more. The 24-hour drink service available in the lounge was excellent too; however, expanding drink options would make this feature even better. Overall, my stay here was extremely comfortable and relaxing. The attentive services provided made this place one I’d love to visit again!
