    My mother, who staye...

    My mother, who stayed with me and uses a wheelchair, received thoughtful and warm support, which was a great help. I only get to see my mother, who lives far away, a few times a year. I’m truly glad we were able to spend our precious time together here in comfort and at ease. My mother was very happy as well, so we would love to visit again. Thank you very much.

    My stay after four m...

    My stay after four months was blessed with beautiful weather, and I was able to relax while taking in the breathtaking ocean views at the end of summer. The greatest charm of Umi no Shogetsu is the elegant time you can enjoy while staying in your Room. The sea stretches out beyond the window, and inside there is stylish furniture and a spacious layout—so you can soak in an open-air bath while admiring the spectacular view without ever leaving your Room. Meals are prepared in the dining area rather than served in-room, so after dining you can return to your Room right away and unwind in your own private space. If I want to be active—exploring or trying experiences—a City Hotel, or even a Business Hotel, feels functional and suits me. But when I want to truly savor time itself, I find myself wanting to visit Umi no Shogetsu. The monthly seasonal kaiseki crafted by the head chef is delicate and exceptionally delicious. I also appreciate the staff’s subtle warmth that never intrudes on privacy. The lovely flowers arranged throughout the property—sometimes charming, sometimes beautifully vibrant—are wonderful as well. Thank you always for everything. We will visit again to enjoy our own luxurious time here. Thank you very much.

    Beautiful views, delicious cuisine, and a truly enriching stay.

    Perched on a hill, Umi no Shogetsu offers stunning views over Ise Bay, with the Suzuka Mountains visible in the distance. Every dish was delicious, as you would expect from a head chef who also serves as Secretary-General of the Kyoto Cuisine Research Association. The ingredients were fresh, and the flavors were mellow and carefully crafted—we enjoyed every last bite. Simply gazing at the scenery is soothing. We were very satisfied with the attentive hospitality.

    I was able to relax as usual.

    Once again, we were able to relax very much as usual. We were satisfied with everything—the cuisine, hospitality, and Facility—and as always, the food in particular was outstanding. We truly enjoyed it together with sake. One request: I believe I mentioned this once before, but would you consider making the soft drinks in the Room refrigerator complimentary? For an Accommodation of Umi no Shogetsu’s caliber, it is rare to find one where soft drinks in the refrigerator are charged. (It’s not a significant amount, but it affects how it feels.) In summer, after soaking in the open-air bath in the Room and stepping out, having only water that isn’t even chilled feels a bit disappointing. If complimentary drinks are difficult, please consider at least providing a pitcher of cold barley tea or oolong tea in the Room during summer. Thank you very much for all your thoughtful arrangements for my wife’s birthday again this time. Next time, we hope to visit again and look forward to enjoying fugu in winter. Thank you for taking such good care of us.

    To the Two Shogetsu Guests

    Following our stay at Shogetsu in Gero, we booked Umi no Shogetsu for our wedding anniversary trip. Both are located on a hill, and the view from the lobby was breathtaking. Binoculars were also provided in the Room. Every dish was delicious. What truly surprised us was receiving spiny lobster sashimi as a celebratory treat—we never expected that. The meat was wonderfully firm and had an exceptional flavor. We also enjoyed comparing Hida beef and Chita beef, not just seafood. For those who still wanted more at the end of the meal, both rice and soba were available, so we were fully satisfied with both quality and quantity. Even if you can’t finish your rice, they will make it into onigiri for a late-night snack. Breakfast also offered a wide variety of items, including five kinds of dried fish that you can enjoy in small portions. If I could make one request, it would be perfect if the drinks in the refrigerator were complimentary. Recently, many Accommodations with an in-room bath offer free drinks in the fridge. That said, all staff members were kind and welcoming with warm smiles, and the Room was spacious. Having ReFa shower fixtures and a ReFa hair dryer was also a big plus. Next time, we would love to stay in one of the single-story Rooms.

    This was my first visit in 10 years. I imagine the staff has changed since then, but the hospitality was just as wonderful, and I was very satisfied with this Accommodation. I would like to stay here again.

    This is my favorite accommodation.

    Overall, we were very satisfied, but perhaps the head chef has changed since a few years ago, as the meals were slightly disappointing compared with our expectations. In the past, each dish was truly delicious and the entire course—along with breakfast the next morning—was wonderfully well balanced and deeply impressive, so we had very high expectations this time as well. However, there were many dishes and sauces using ginger (both at dinner and breakfast), and many of the dishes ended up feeling quite similar. As for the service and the Accommodation itself, we remain extremely satisfied as always. (If soft drinks were available in the lounge in addition to coffee and tea, and if the in-room minibar—with its carefully selected juices and alcohol—were also complimentary, we feel our time in the Room would be even more elegant.) As this is not an inexpensive Accommodation, we hope you will consider this. Thank you very much.

    Surprise

    “I’m bringing my 90-year-old mother. She has no teeth, so she can’t eat hard foods. If possible, please accommodate her needs.” In response, they not only accommodated our request, but also kindly offered complimentary abalone sashimi to celebrate her 90th birthday, prepared a purple hat and celebratory vest, and took commemorative photos—my mother, I, and even my children were deeply moved. The weather was wonderful that day; the blue sea was set off by a beautiful sunset, creating an exceptionally stunning sky. My mother said that among all the Accommodations she has stayed at so far, this one was the best in terms of the people, service, meals, and baths. The private open-air bath attached to our Room—where we could relax while looking down at the sea from the hilltop—was also outstanding. This is one Accommodation we would love to visit again.

    The Room was upgraded for us because “Sora no Ichi” happened to be available. All of the Rooms are wonderful, but “Sora no Ichi” is my favorite because it has a spacious balcony.

    I booked this Accomm...

    I booked this Accommodation on a whim after seeing the website and Reviews, but I was pleasantly surprised by how exceptional the Room and meals were. The view from the Room was wonderful, and I even found myself wishing I had a sofa like that at home. The cuisine was mainly kaiseki, with an occasional Western-style dish as well—truly impressive. If it were closer, I’d come just for the food; I’m already looking forward to my next visit.

    We visited Umi no Sh...

    We visited Umi no Shogetsu to celebrate my husband’s birthday, and as always—if not more than ever—we had a truly satisfying stay. It was a weekend blessed with beautiful weather. The property was decorated with lovely spring flowers, and carp streamers and samurai helmets were on display, creating a festive atmosphere. After relaxing body and mind in the open-air bath in our Room while gazing at the setting sun, it was time for the long-awaited dinner. Once again, it was a feast featuring an abundance of seasonal ingredients. We have enjoyed the chef’s cuisine many times before, yet each visit brings new surprises. The bamboo shoot vichyssoise was my first time trying it, and it was absolutely delicious! The “Spring Aroma Hot Pot” made with fresh spring onions was also wonderful—the sweetness of the onions really came through. And the original sauce served with the seafood amuse-bouche was exceptional… When we asked the chef about it, we learned that it is prepared with far more care and effort than we could have imagined. For dessert, they presented a birthday message plate, which deeply moved my husband. The staff also wished him “Happy Birthday!”, making it a very special day for him. With exquisite cuisine, an open-air bath that lets you fully unwind, and the thoughtful hospitality of everyone on staff—everything came together for the perfect birthday stay. Thank you very much.

    Thank you for the Shuttle Service to Kowa Station.

    The Accommodation and spa are excellent, but Utsumi Station has no elevators or escalators, and the station restroom only has squat toilets. The nearby tourist information center also wouldn’t let me use their restroom and is closed on holidays, so I hadn’t been visiting as often. However, I learned that if there is a specific reason—such as having limited mobility—you can provide Shuttle Service from Kowa Station, which means I can visit more frequently, and I’m very happy! Next time as well, I’m looking forward to the food and the spa! Thank you for your continued support. Sincerely!

    This was my second s...

    This was my second stay, and overall I was satisfied, but I was disappointed with the meal service timing. The first half moved at a good pace, but we had to wait quite a while in the second half, and it ended up taking 2 hours and 30 minutes. As others have mentioned, I could see the head chef greeting regular guests, which made it even more disappointing. The sweets in the lobby were the same as last time, and higher-end Accommodations usually offer a wider variety of drinks as well, so I hope that will be expanded.

    I want to live in a house like this.

    It was a maisonette-style Room. Unfortunately, the weather wasn’t great so the view wasn’t very impressive, but we still enjoyed the beautiful decor and having a fireplace in the Room. The lounge was quiet and relaxing as well, which is exactly what you’d expect from an adults-only Accommodation. Dinner in a private room was seafood-focused and delicious. As expected, cuisine at a Ryokan that proudly names its head chef is truly excellent. Since it was my husband’s birthday, I won’t go into details about the surprise, but it was a wonderful and much-appreciated service. What stayed with me most was how beautiful the Room was—it felt like a space you’d want to live in, and we were able to relax completely.

    It was a very satisfying accommodation.

    We stayed to celebrate my mother’s retirement and birthday. The views were wonderful, the food was delicious, the interior design was tasteful, and the service—smiles and thoughtful check-ins—was outstanding. I’m still savoring the experience. Even the pre-stay confirmation call impressed me; their warm response made me feel it would be a special place. The Ryokan staff celebrated with us as well, which truly warmed our hearts.     This was my first visit to Umi no Shogetsu this year. Inside the property, camellias, plum blossoms, and daffodils were beautifully arranged, and adorable Hina dolls welcomed us. With it being a warm weekend, we were able to feel an early hint of spring. And then the cuisine—something I look forward to with excitement every time. The dishes capture the season beautifully and delight both the eyes and the palate. February means Setsubun: a demon mask made from carrot, a burdock club, an “Otafuku” made from quail egg, and sweet-simmered soybeans served in a tiny masu-shaped cup carved from daikon… The appetizer tray was decorated with Setsubun motifs in such a fun and tasteful way. I enjoyed it twice—first with my eyes, then again with the delicate flavors enhanced by dashi. Every time I visit Umi no Shogetsu, I feel the arrival of a new season and leave with my heart feeling fuller. Soaking in the Room’s open-air bath at just the right temperature while gazing absentmindedly at the sunset, enjoying wonderful meals, and chatting with the staff—I felt refreshed in both body and mind once again. Thank you very much.

    Wonderful Memories in Minamichita

    This was our first overnight trip to Minamichita. If I had known there was such a wonderful Ryokan so close by, I would have come much sooner. The Room was well maintained, and we really enjoyed the food. All of the staff were kind and helpful. If I had to say one thing, I think it would be even more enjoyable if there were a bit more lounge space. It’s a Ryokan we’d love to stay at again if we have the chance.

    We were really looking forward to our stay. Everything in the refrigerator was chargeable. In the lounge, only coffee and tea were available. It was our first time experiencing this at an Accommodation of this class. During the meal, the manager came to greet us. It seemed that in the Room next door, a regular guest may have been greeted by the head chef... Also, at checkout, when we tried to have a cup of coffee in the lounge, we felt an atmosphere as if we were being asked why we still hadn’t left. Since someone else was there first, we thought it would be after them, but it felt like other guests couldn’t leave unless we did, so we hurried out. When we tried to take our coffee with us as well, it seemed like that wasn’t allowed, which was very disappointing. Also, perhaps because the bath is completely outdoors, it was quite cold.

    We had a wonderful time.

    The room, meals, and service were generally satisfactory. However, the bed was too firm and uncomfortable to sleep on. When I mentioned this to the staff during breakfast, they explained that the firm mattress was left in place due to a previous guest's request. Despite informing them that I couldn't sleep well, their response was simply "We'll be more careful next time." Additionally, the shampoo and conditioner had been changed to Thai-made products compared to before. While these might suit younger guests, they felt too harsh for older individuals like me, leaving my hair dry and brittle. It would be nice if there were options available. Other than these points, I was very satisfied with my stay overall.

    This was my first stay at this accommodation, and I was very satisfied. The food was especially delicious, with the comparison of fillet and loin meat as well as the shabu-shabu being absolutely outstanding! Other dishes, including the sea bream rice, were also incredibly tasty. The only disappointment was that in accommodations within this price range, there are usually complimentary alcoholic beverages, tea, and soft drinks in the refrigerator. However, it was disappointing to find only paid options available here.

    Relaxed by the serene ocean view and the Onsen.

    I have visited Shogetsu in Gero before, but this was my first stay at Umi no Shogetsu. We stayed in the "Umi no Ichi" maisonette room, and the view of the ocean from the spacious area was outstanding. The open-air bath on the lower floor was amazing, allowing us to enjoy it anytime we wanted. The slightly salty water left our skin smooth after bathing. Soaking in the bath while gazing at a sky full of stars was truly satisfying. The meals featured a creative menu centered around local fish, and it was great to enjoy them leisurely in a private dining room. A standout dish for me was the Chita beef teppanyaki. It was my first time experiencing teppanyaki on a crystal plate—it looked beautiful and seemed to conduct heat well. The Chita beef had less fat, making it tender and incredibly delicious. One minor concern during our stay was that some weeds or small trees partially obstructed what could have been an even better view. While there were no issues with the view from the second-floor balcony, weeds (or small trees) near the open-air bath on the lower floor blocked part of its scenery, which was unfortunate. While cutting down trees growing on cliffs may be difficult, trimming parts accessible from your garden might improve this issue. Being just an hour's drive from Nagoya makes this place a rare gem where you can experience such relaxing moments away from everyday life. Overall, I had a very satisfying stay and would love to visit again!

    A holiday at Umi no ...

    A holiday at Umi no Shougetsu to end the year. Despite the rare warm winter rain during our stay, the courtyard glistening in the rain was stunningly beautiful. On the other hand, with it being Christmas season, Santa Claus decorations were everywhere inside, filling us with excitement and joy. The meals we always look forward to were exceptional as usual. Dishes featuring seasonal fugu and yellowtail... The combination of high-quality ingredients and the chef's skill and creativity made every dish a masterpiece! The appetizer "Shrimp Risotto-style" was particularly memorable. At first, I wondered about risotto in Japanese cuisine, but the roasted shrimp flavor paired with scallion accents was exquisite—absolutely delicious! As our wedding anniversary was approaching, they surprised us with a dessert message plate—a thoughtful gesture that deeply moved us. The staff also congratulated us warmly by saying "Congratulations," which made us very happy. Thank you so much for your kindness. From the always comfortable room to relaxing open-air Onsen overlooking breathtaking views, delicious meals, and heartfelt hospitality from all staff members... Umi no Shougetsu has once again provided immense relaxation this year as well. Thank you very much for everything! We look forward to visiting again next year!
