    We rented and used a wheelchair. We were satisfied with everything—the bath, the Room, and the meals. We would like to stay again. Thank you very much.

    The Room was spaciou...

    The Room was spacious with a great view, and it even had an open-air bath (not Onsen water). The meals were delicious, and I really appreciated the Yakult after bathing (morning), the late-night soba, the kind attitude of the staff, and even beer as part of the welcome drinks. The exterior was also impressive—overall, it was truly wonderful. 　However, I think there may have been ice cream available after the evening bath, but I forgot to check and didn’t get to have any… such a shame… 　Next time I go to the Shirahama area, I’d like to stay here again. 　Of course, the Onsen was also great, with two different hot spring sources. I gave up on the mixed-gender open-air bath because the wind was too strong… 　This is an Accommodation I’d like to recommend to friends as well.

    Relax and unwind.

    I’ve stayed here several times, and the Onsen is great and the meals were delicious. I could relax in my Room, enjoy the ocean view, and spend time at my own pace. You can still have a wonderful stay even without the pandas.

    Couples’ Trip

    We visited as a couple in our 50s, and both the large public bath’s open-air bath and the private open-air bath had ocean views, making for a wonderfully relaxing Onsen experience. We could soak at our own pace without feeling crowded, which was also great. The meals were delicious, and we were able to take our time. This is an Onsen Ryokan we would love to visit again.

    Dining and Onsen

    The meals pair perfectly with drinks like beer, sake, and wine—excellent. The bath uses natural hot spring water and is wonderful, but if the open-air bath were a bit closer, it would be perfect. The stairs are quite tiring.

    A Wonderful Stay with Our 1-Year-Old Daughter

    Because our Room had an open-air bath, we were glad we could enjoy the Onsen even with our 1-year-old daughter who is not yet out of diapers. Since it was an ocean-side Room, the view was amazing. While my husband and I took turns watching our daughter, I was also able to use the large public bath, which was very relaxing. The Room was very spacious and had a low bed as well as floor futons. The refrigerator was stocked with complimentary water and plum juice for each guest; I especially appreciated the plum juice—it was refreshing and delicious. In the first-floor lounge, coffee is available 24 hours a day, and there are also food services depending on the time of day. Dinner is served in two seatings, so different food is offered for each group—such thoughtful hospitality. At dinner, they prepared a private room with a child’s chair, and our daughter even received a luxurious kids’ set meal. Each time an adult dish was served, various staff members kindly spoke to her—“You’re doing great eating! Good job!”—which made us very happy. Of course, every adult dish was outstanding as well, and we were especially excited about the large sashimi boat platter! (We won’t post photos so it can be a surprise for future guests.) Since you can adjust what’s included in the service based on how much you eat personally, we were completely satisfied with both quantity and quality. If there’s one thing to watch out for, it’s simply not overeating. Haha. The souvenir shop on the first floor is open late at night too, so it was convenient to casually stop by to pick up extra drinks or souvenirs. We were truly happy to spend our daughter’s first trip to Wakayama comfortably at this Accommodation. Thank you very much for your wonderful care and hospitality.

    The Room and bath we...

    The Room and bath were both very clean, and the meals were delicious for both breakfast and dinner. The free-flowing hot spring water was excellent! What was disappointing is that although there were many staff members, not a single one was pleasant. Perhaps because they were busy, no one smiled and everyone seemed matter-of-fact. There was also no Shuttle Service from the parking lot, so we had to carry all our luggage ourselves. And this should never happen: we borrowed two room keys, but one of them was mistakenly for a different floor. Because the numbering uses old-style Chinese numerals, it was hard to tell, and we didn’t notice until we tried to use it. Since the property said it was fully booked, it was frightening to think what could have happened if it had been given to someone with bad intentions. Other than our impression of the staff and the key issue, everything else was great.

    My expectations were too high.

    We stayed in a detached Room to celebrate a birthday. Since it’s by the sea, we were expecting a great view, but we were shown to a Room with very little view, which was disappointing from the start... Once inside the Room, there were signs of age—some spots that looked like mold here and there. We also had high hopes for the meals, but they didn’t feel worth the price... Because our expectations were so high, the disappointment was even greater. The Onsen was hot, but we enjoyed it!

    An Accommodation where you can relax and unwind with your elderly mother

    We stayed at Kaishu in Shirahama for my mother’s birthday trip. We had previously visited Kaishu in Ishikawa and loved it, so we were sure this one would be great as well—and it was exactly as expected, with a wonderful atmosphere, attentive service, and excellent meals. My mother was very happy. We were able to relax in the Onsen and spend a truly meaningful time together.

    Points of concern

    The Onsen is wonderful. I was concerned to see suitcases being rolled over the tatami; some guests carried them instead, but I felt staff should handle luggage rather than having it rolled.

    Have fun with energetic older sisters.

    I joined a last-minute trip with a group of ladies around 80 years old. We were looking for a relaxing getaway, and chose Shirahama as a place even seniors can enjoy, and at their request we selected Hotel Kaisyu. They wanted delicious food without overly large portions. Upon arrival, we checked in while enjoying welcome drinks—there was plum juice, coffee, and even beer. I had seen on the website that the Room might feel small for five people, but it was great: two beds, a spacious tatami area, plus a sofa and table. The balcony also had a wonderful ocean view, which got everyone excited. Amenities were provided in the Room, and we were told we could get extra towels if needed. There were also snacks, and the fridge was stocked with water and plum juice—everything we needed. The meals were served in small portions featuring seasonal items and local specialties, and everything was delicious. Breakfast was a set meal with salad and other items available buffet-style, so we could eat at our own pace. With a full buffet you end up rushing back and forth just to get food, so this was really nice. The baths were Onsen as well—we could relax properly—and there was an open-air bath too. I did wish they had placed cleansing oil and face wash next to the shampoo amenities. I also would have liked slightly better hair dryers. As for the late-night soba service, the ladies said they didn’t need it—but I took them anyway, and everyone finished their bowls (laugh). I also wished there had been small hand towels by the sink; everyone kept washing their face and then going to grab towels. The toilet was kept very clean. Paper towels after handwashing were properly provided as well; however, I would have appreciated disinfectant spray for the toilet seat. I also felt that some of the grooves around the seat could have been bleached a bit more—maybe I notice these things because I’m used to housekeeping at home. The ladies said it was the most delicious food they’ve had on any recent group trip together, and that they really enjoyed relaxing in the Room. The view from the Hotel was beautiful too. Thank you very much.

    This Hotel made me want to visit Shirahama again just to stay here.

    What I liked - Since guests store their shoes in the shoe lockers at the entrance, the Hotel felt clean throughout, and it was very comfortable. - The food was excellent, and the dinner sashimi boat platter in particular left a strong impression. - The Room had a private open-air bath. It is not temperature-controlled, but hot water comes out quickly, so it reached a comfortable temperature in a short time and was very pleasant. - The Room was well maintained down to every detail, allowing me to relax. - There was a welcome drink service in the lounge, so I could unwind right after arrival. - The late-night soba service was a small but enjoyable treat. - I also appreciated being able to have coffee freely at any time. - The shop is open 24 hours, which is very convenient. - The view from the Room was great, and I could enjoy some quiet time. A minor point - Some of the breakfast side dishes felt slightly lacking as accompaniments for rice. Overall I was highly satisfied overall, and this is a Hotel I would definitely like to return to on my next visit to Shirahama.

    Stayed on 1/25 for the second time, and the hospitality did not disappoint. Firstly, Mr. M, who welcomed us upon arrival, was incredibly kind and informative, leaving a great impression. From the moment we arrived, it felt wonderful. The other staff members were also excellent in their greetings and service. The food was fresh, and we thoroughly enjoyed both the presentation and taste of the sashimi. This time I went with my son as a group of three, but for our third visit, I plan to bring my entire family to stay together.

    This was my second s...

    This was my second stay. Last time, I stayed during a busy holiday weekend and couldn't relax much due to the crowd. This time, I stayed on a regular Sunday and was able to enjoy a more relaxed experience. The view of the ocean from the room was beautiful and calming. I came to enjoy the onsen, so it was great that I could use the private bath twice—once at 3:30 PM and again at 5:00 AM the next day. Unfortunately, there wasn't anything particularly outstanding about the meals.

    Three-Generation Trip

    We traveled with my in-laws, father, and daughter. I chose this place because I wanted to visit the open-air bath by the sea, but I realized that it might be challenging for elderly parents due to uneven footing, especially at night. Unfortunately, we encountered a cold wave during our stay. While the open-air bath with a sea view was enjoyable while soaking in it, stepping out of the bath was quite chilly as the bathing garment clung to my body due to the wind. We also used a private open-air bath; however, it took some time for hot water to come out of the shower inside the bathroom. It might be helpful to put up a notice about this during winter or bad weather conditions for guests' convenience. As for meals, we chose an option that included meat dishes but found there was less meat than expected. However, both fish and other dishes were delicious overall. The facility was clean both inside and outside and gave an impression of being able to enjoy seasonal flowers throughout the year. I would love to visit again during seasons like when plum blossoms bloom or in spring or autumn!

    The room's private hot spring was excellent.

    Overall, I was mostly satisfied with my stay as it met my expectations. However, if I were to point out some areas for improvement: When moving from the main building to the annex, guests are provided with geta-style slippers. These were slippery and difficult to walk in. While the weather was fine during our stay, I would have been genuinely concerned if it had been raining. My 84-year-old mother felt unsafe and clung to my arm while walking. Crocs would have been a much better alternative—100 times better, in fact. This needs improvement. At breakfast in the restaurant, we were seated at a counter facing the window overlooking the sea—a spot that should have offered a delightful view. However, dirty windows significantly diminished this experience. Even if they had been cleaned at year-end, it's hard to imagine them getting so dirty within just half a month; this suggests insufficient cleaning efforts. This also requires attention. As for the annex rooms, it seems that the walls are thin as I could hear noises from neighboring rooms. This is just an observation for your information.

    Pandas and Inbound Tourism

    We visited hoping to enjoy the quiet as there were no pandas and fewer visitors from China, but the check-in line was extremely long. Despite arriving early for the private open-air Onsen, it was fully booked, and we had to wait a long time in a cold hallway. We've stayed here several times before, but this was by far the most crowded visit. The Room is clean, the food is delicious, and the salt-rich Onsen is excellent, but having too many people makes it less comfortable.

    I stayed in a detached accommodation on New Year's Day. The wind was too strong, making it tough to go to the outdoor bath, but it was a nice accommodation. However, one disappointing point was that dinner had two seatings, with the later one starting at 7:50 PM, and I had to wait an additional 10 minutes. If that process could be smoother, it would be the perfect accommodation.

    The meals are not very satisfying.

    I was looking forward to the meals, but unfortunately, nothing tasted good. Breakfast was also cold, which was disappointing. The Room and Onsen were excellent, so I hope the meals can be improved.

    I was looking forwar...

    I was looking forward to enjoying seafood cuisine and the onsen with my mother. The quality of the natural hot spring water in the large public bath was excellent, leaving our skin smooth, and we warmed up after multiple baths, which made my mother very happy. However, the seafood cuisine and staff service fell below expectations. The seafood wasn't particularly fresh, making it hard to enjoy. The staff's service lacked warmth or attentiveness; they avoided eye contact and provided indifferent responses without any consideration for my elderly mother. From arrival to check-in, guidance within the ryokan, and even check-out, there was a complete lack of attention to detail or care, which only added to our travel fatigue and left no desire to return. Despite choosing a plan that exceeded our budget in hopes of a better experience, we were deeply disappointed. It would have been better to choose a cheaper accommodation instead. When paying such prices, it's reasonable to expect corresponding service quality. This trip reminded me of how important human interaction is in hospitality—unfortunately in this case for all the wrong reasons. I will never come back here again.

    Wonderful Accommodation

    Private open-air bath, indoor open-air bath, and large public bath. All were comfortable. I was glad to use the private bath at a good timing. The Room was on the garden side, but I could see the sea, and it was beautiful.

    A relaxing Ryokan we visit every year.

    We visit every year to celebrate birthdays. We've stayed here so many times that I've lost count! This Ryokan is a favorite for the whole family, with excellent cuisine, relaxing Onsen, and the warm smiles of the staff—everything is absolutely satisfying. Having worked in J◯B arrangements before, I can confidently say there’s no Ryokan as wonderful as this one! It’s such a lovely accommodation that makes us want to come back again.     Quite terrible

    Previously stayed at a Kyoritsu Resort in Mie Prefecture and had a great impression, so decided to stay at the same group's accommodation in Wakayama this time. We stayed as a group of 9, divided into rooms for 2, 2, 2, and 3 people. However, the staff couldn't even identify which of the four rooms was for three people. The check-in process was poorly organized and it took an hour to get into our rooms. When asked about not knowing which room was for three people, they excused themselves by saying "I wasn't the one who handled your reception." It felt like such a waste of time that I wanted my time back. There was no apology afterward either. Additionally, we were told there would be pudding in the room but some rooms didn't have it—clearly showing that inventory checks weren't done properly. I will never use this accommodation again nor recommend it to anyone else. Improvements are necessary as it's not worth paying nearly ¥50,000 per person for this experience.

    Thank you for your kind assistance when my mother's health suddenly worsened.

    When my elderly mother developed a high fever and felt unwell at night, I consulted the front desk. They kindly called an ambulance for us. She was taken to a nearby general hospital, where she underwent tests and was prescribed medication as there were no major issues. The hospital's on-call staff were also very kind to us. A staff member from the accommodation even came to pick us up, allowing us to return safely. From start to finish, we are deeply grateful for the kind support of all the staff at Hamachidori no Yu Kaishu. Although there was an unexpected incident, we had a valuable experience and enjoyed our stay at this wonderful accommodation. My family is truly delighted with this trip. Thank you very much for everything. We sincerely appreciate all the efforts of your staff members.

    The annex is excellent!

    This is my second visit because I loved the open-air hot spring bath attached to the Room. I had a relaxing time, but cigarette smoke drifted onto the balcony of the detached Room. While it’s understandable since there are ashtrays on the balconies, as someone who dislikes smoking, it ruined my experience. The ashtrays on the balconies should be removed, and smoking should be prohibited. Also, while the chairs on the balcony are stylish, they are not designed for comfortable relaxation. If they allowed you to stretch your legs and sit more comfortably, it would be perfect for enjoying a leisurely time while gazing at the ocean from the balcony. I really love this place, so I hope for improvements!

    Family Trip

    We chose to stay at Kaishu for my mother's birthday, a place we had been curious about for some time. From the moment we arrived, the staff's hospitality and the Room were exceptional, and above all, the open-air bath was amazing! The stairs were no trouble at all because it was so enjoyable! The view was stunning!! Both dinner and breakfast were delicious, and we also got to enjoy local sake. Everything exceeded our expectations, and we created wonderful memories while saying we'd love to come back again with my mother. Thank you so much!
