A breathtaking oceanfront view all to yourself and soothing hot springs—an exceptional getaway in Nanki-Shirahama.

We stayed with five people in two Rooms. Even with two meals included, it was about JPY 50,000 per person, so this is a high-end Accommodation—and our expectations were accordingly high. First of all, the Facility was very clean and beautifully designed, blending traditional Japanese aesthetics with modern Western comfort. The atmosphere throughout the property felt refined, offering a true resort Ryokan escape from everyday life. What stood out most this time was the top-floor ocean-side Room. Beyond the windows, the sea of Nanki-Shirahama stretched out wide, and with nothing to block the view, it was simply breathtaking. The Room itself was spacious at 49 m², and we were able to relax comfortably. The private open-air bath in the Room was also outstanding. Being able to soak whenever we liked while gazing out at the ocean felt incredibly luxurious. This view and the in-room open-air bath alone are strong reasons to choose this Accommodation. The Onsen offerings were also excellent. There were multiple baths with different atmospheres, and it was fun to enjoy them as if doing an on-site hot-spring tour. It’s a very appealing place for Onsen lovers. Dinner was satisfying as well. We enjoyed seafood such as abalone along with local ingredients—exactly what we had hoped for from a Ryokan dinner. On the other hand, service felt slightly underwhelming. It wasn’t bad at all—the staff were perfectly fine—but at an Accommodation Fee of around JPY 50,000 per person, you naturally expect something more elevated not only in facilities and food but also in hospitality. During this stay, service didn’t feel as special as the Facility itself or the views, Onsen experience, and cuisine. Even so, the overall appeal of this Accommodation is very strong: ocean-view Rooms, an open-air bath in the Room , a wide variety of Onsen baths , and enjoyable meals. In particular ,the ocean view from our top-floor Room and time spent in its private open-air bath were exceptional . The price is certainly not low ,but as a resort Ryokan where you can fully enjoy both Onsen and spectacular scenery in Nanki-Shirahama ,it became a memorable family stay .

    One night from Osaka

Aug 20 – 1 night, Osaka to Shirahama The day before, I searched various websites for an Accommodation with an in-room open-air bath. I’m really glad I chose this Accommodation. I’ll definitely come again.

The bathroom was covered in mold. It looked like the bathtub had only been drained, with no sign of cleaning. Overall, the cleaning was not thorough. The window screens hadn’t been cleaned for months. I won’t be returning.

    There is nothing next.

The front desk staff were very polite, and the Room was decent, but I probably won’t stay here again. We stayed in a detached guest Room and chose the special course, but every dish tasted mediocre—honestly, somewhat bad. At the next table, a group speaking “C-language” talked nonstop at full volume. On top of that, they brought an entire box of tissues during the meal and loudly blew their noses… Behind my table was a counter seating area, and someone sitting at the far end was positioned right behind my back; they kept sneezing repeatedly without covering their mouth. I left the dining area as quickly as possible. While waiting for the coin laundry to finish, I didn’t want to go back to the detached Room, so I tried to wait in the lounge with a coffee—but it was packed with people crowding around the free ramen. The souvenir shop was also packed. With nowhere to go, I wandered over to check where the large public bath was—and there were crowds there too around the free candy. Everywhere was crowded and it wasn’t relaxing at all. Children were jumping and running around; dust rose from the floor and I couldn’t stop sneezing. Paying 130,000 yen for this level of experience is not worth it.

The No. 1 Onsen Accommodation in the Rankings

I finally got to experience this Accommodation I’d been curious about for a while, thanks to its appealing Instagram posts and high rankings online! In conclusion, it’s a wonderful Onsen Accommodation with a high level of satisfaction that truly lives up to the hype. The food is especially outstanding. At dinner—famous for its boat platter—you can enjoy Kishu-style whale dishes, along with a lineup of carefully prepared courses. As for the Onsen, it was a bit disappointing that every bath felt too hot to fully relax in, but you can still enjoy thoughtfully designed baths, including an open-air bath where you can feel the sea up close. I’m glad I found an Accommodation I’d love to return to in another season.

    At a wonderful accommodation

We stayed in a detached Room with an open-air bath. From the moment we entered the Accommodation, it had a wonderful atmosphere, and the staff at reception were very kind. The Room offered a panoramic view of Shirahama’s ocean, and we were extremely satisfied with the open-air bath in the Room. The meals were thoughtfully prepared and delicious. It was a quiet, relaxing, truly excellent Accommodation, and we would love to come again. There is just one point I would like to see improved. The large public bath had a strong fishy smell, so I left right away. A hinoki fragrance or an Onsen sulfur-like scent would be fine, but the lingering smell of rotten fish was very disappointing. We are hoping to stay again next time as well, so I look forward to it having a pleasant scent. Thank you very much.

An ocean-view Room with a private bath, and the food is exquisite. Just a slight letdown in some details.

We stayed as a couple. The spacious oceanfront Room came with an in-room bath, and the view was wonderful—we were able to relax completely. The seafood and Kumano beef kaiseki dinner was delicious across the board, and we were also satisfied with the Western-style breakfast. Overall, we were very pleased. If I had to mention a few minor points: the sauna benches were quite hot, making it hard to stay long; the demi-glace sauce on the breakfast omelet was slightly disappointing; and the forks felt a bit awkward to use. We would be happy if these are improved next time. This is an Accommodation we would love to visit again.

    Breakfast is...

I stay here every June or September, and this was my sixth visit. I was disappointed that the breakfast half-buffet felt much less substantial than before.\n\nOther than that, the complimentary service from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm—beer, shochu, coffee, soft drinks, and plum juice—was the same as always. The light snacks such as warabi mochi and kama-ten were delicious, and the late-night soba was also a great touch. I really appreciated it.

    Plum-flavored Japanese sweets,

The Onsen was great, the Room was clean, and the service was excellent. This time, dinner was not only beautifully presented but also very delicious. I was especially impressed by the plum dessert—it looked just like a real plum, with such fine detail. We have a plum tree at home, so I could tell the chef had observed it closely. Thank you for serving seasonal dishes.

The facilities are quite good, but the service is not so great.

Pros There is a lounge with drinks available. The overall Facility is good and clean. The food quality is generally decent. The bath was clean and nice. Cons The female staff member who greeted us just stood there as soon as she saw us, without any greeting, and said over the radio—loud enough for us to hear—“Another person will be there soon,” which made me uncomfortable. At the entrance, we were suddenly told, “Please put your shoes here (in the shoe cabinet).” When we did as instructed, we were curtly told, “Not here—please put them in the same place as your companion,” and were made to move our shoes again. Being told out of nowhere to put our shoes in the shoe cabinet felt unhelpful. No one brought our luggage to the Room; the attitude felt cold. Right before eating, we ordered alcohol (drinks), but it didn’t arrive until about 15 minutes later. After we finished and waited, we were told they would bring rice for the next course, but it took another 15 minutes to arrive. After that, they even forgot to bring some of the dishes in order at times; it felt like there was poor coordination among staff when serving meals. The food wasn’t impressive enough to be memorable, and there wasn’t anything unique or a signature specialty you can only have here. Service felt rough with little hospitality; I felt treated casually and didn’t feel like I’d want to come back again.

    Instagrammable.

We were blessed with great weather, and it was wonderful to relax while looking out over the calm sea. After passing through the entrance surrounded by flowers, we found an amazing spot with a clear view of the blue ocean and sky. First, we headed straight to the open-air bath in our Room. So soothing—again, enjoying the ocean view. Dinner featured one carefully prepared dish after another. Abalone was served as well. Everything was delicious. Next was the large public bath. The temperature was just right. After bathing, there was ice cream available. And there was even a late-night snack: their special “yonaki soba.” Since dinner started at 5:30 PM, you naturally get a little hungry later on. For breakfast, you can choose Japanese or Western. We chose Western—and it was a great choice. Everything was taken care of. Simply excellent. One disappointing point: There were quite a few international guests, but some had very poor manners. When in Rome, do as the Romans do. Even when you make a Reservation and look forward to your trip, too many guests—international and Japanese alike—have bad manners these days.

    Unfortunately.

Because our Room was “To,” we couldn’t see the ocean on the left side. Next time, please let us stay in “I–He.” We’ll definitely come again! The view, service, and meals were all great.

The service, meals, and staff training are excellent.

This was my first stay here. The property looks great, and the training of the international staff is excellent. The service was wonderful, and the food was truly delicious. The Room and the open-air bath in the Room were outstanding, allowing me to relax and unwind at a leisurely pace. If I have the chance, I would love to return with my family. Thank you very much.

    This was our second ...

This was our second stay, following our visit four years ago. This time we finally stayed in the detached guesthouse we had wanted back then. However, the Room called Hamazeri is on a different row, and I wonder if the Room on the other row might have had a better view. Next time I might ask—just in case. Last time I managed to try all of the open-air baths, but my legs and back have gotten weaker, and even walking in slippers was difficult. So this time I gave up and fully enjoyed the bath in the Room. Since it’s by the sea, things may deteriorate more easily, but I’d like to see a bit more effort put into maintaining the terrace. It would also be nice if lounge hours were a little longer. We were also treated to a complimentary hot pot from the head chef. The meals were a bit generous for an elderly guest. The garden flowers were truly beautiful—I was moved! It made me want to come again in another season to see different blooms. Next time I’ll bring comfortable walking shoes for exploring. Thank you for taking such good care of us. We will visit again.

An Accommodation that falls short compared to other Kyoritsu Resorts.

The staff member who escorted us from the parking area to the entrance was extremely unpleasant. Their tone throughout made it seem like we were a bother, and although they said “We’ll take it,” they handled our luggage roughly (it was carried while rubbing against the garden hedge). I was also shocked by how they handled our shoes at the entrance. We were told, “Please put your shoes in the shoe box,” so our family of three tried to split them between two boxes (the ones we reached held only two pairs each). Suddenly, in a harsh tone, we were told, “Put them in one shoe box.” Apparently there was a box that could fit three pairs, and we were directed to it. However, if you want guests to use only one box, you should guide them there from the start. And even if a guest mistakenly uses two boxes, as customer service staff they should be able to use at least a simple polite phrase such as “Excuse me.” (We weren’t guided properly in the first place, so there was no reason to speak to us so harshly.) The service level was so low that I was astonished. After check-in at the front desk, we were left standing without anyone asking whether we needed help bringing our luggage to the room. Overall, many staff seemed inattentive and unhelpful; it was surprisingly poor service for Kyoritsu Resort. Some staff members were kind and courteous, but what happened around check-in left such an unpleasant impression that it was very disappointing. In addition, the guest room still felt sticky around the sink area; cleaning did not seem thorough. We were also told that strollers cannot be used inside the building, which was disappointing. Overall, as an Accommodation under Kyoritsu Resort standards—for example compared with Ise’s Ikyu—I felt this property’s level was lower. The Onsen and the view were good.

[Ocean Side / Open-Air Bath] Akatsuki Wing Japanese-Western Room

My wife, mother-in-law, and I stayed at Hamachidori no Yu Kaisyu in an ocean-side Room with a private open-air bath. The view from the Room was wonderful, and since the weather was great, we were able to fully enjoy the deep blue sea scenery. What was disappointing was that the private open-air bath in the Room was not an Onsen, and it wasn’t filled in advance, so we couldn’t bathe right away. Since we made our Reservation specifically for an Onsen experience, I would like this to be clearly stated on the Reservation screen. At the large public bath, free ice cream and Yakult were provided, and it was lively with families. My wife used the esthetic massage service, and she said the therapist was very skilled and it was excellent. The meals—seafood, meat, etc.—were delicious overall, but for the menu where you can choose three items, we felt the portions were somewhat insufficient.

The views and the Onsen were beyond expectations...

This was a splurge family trip, also meant as my husband’s once-a-year birthday gift. We went with high expectations at 40,000 yen per person, but check-in was crowded and we ended up waiting unnecessarily. We also had to carry our own luggage. The staff’s explanation of the Room and Facility was hard to understand because their voices were muffled… Overall, many of the staff were young or from overseas, and it was difficult to get requests across. We received incorrect explanations at times, which left us confused. In the morning, some looked visibly exhausted as well—it made me feel for them, but it was still disappointing. At this point I already felt a bit let down. The actual Room had an amazing view, but it felt smaller than expected, and there was noticeable dust that suggested cleaning wasn’t thorough. Above all, the in-room bath was extremely small. Wouldn’t it be impossible for a larger person to fit through?? We traveled with a child, and carrying our 7-month-old into the bathroom was really tight—I even hit my head. More than anything else, the unclean areas stood out. The meals and the large public Onsen bath were satisfying, but these issues outweighed that for me. Maybe if we hadn’t expected an in-room bath—and if we had upgraded the room grade—we could have enjoyed it without such high expectations? The view really was wonderful.

    Basic cleaning is included…

The Room and meals were excellent, and overall—including other services—the value for money was outstanding. The large public bath was a bit dirty. The restaurant’s ocean-side windows were dirty. There were two stink bugs in the Room. Only housekeeping issues—please be more thorough about cleanliness and hygiene.

    It was excellent.

Everything was excellent, including the detached Room, the open-air bath in the Room, and the ice cream after bathing. I rated the Facility and meals 4 stars because I have even higher expectations. However, I was concerned that suitcases were brought directly onto the tatami; I would appreciate measures such as wiping the wheels with a towel. I also noticed that when the welcome drinks ran out, they were not replenished. The same applied to drinks at breakfast. If these points are improved, it would be 5 stars.

Thank you for the Room with the spectacular view.

Thank you very much for having us stay this time in a Room with a spectacular view overlooking the Pacific Ocean right in front of us. Thanks to that, we were able to enjoy an extraordinary experience—it was wonderful. As always, the hot spring water quality, the cuisine, and the service were among the best within Kyoritsu Resort. We were able to forget our busy daily routine and relax at ease. We would definitely like to stay again in the future.

I stayed with my family (my parents and older sister). The location, perched on a cape, was outstanding, and we were moved by the ocean views from our Room and open-air bath. The food was also delicious, and we were very satisfied with both breakfast and dinner. The staff were courteous as well, allowing our whole family to relax and enjoy a peaceful time together. It’s a wonderful Accommodation that we definitely want to visit again.

The views and the food are excellent.

The views from the private bath and the breakfast venue are outstanding. The sashimi boat platter is beautifully presented. Possible front desk understaffing? At checkout, they mixed up the shoe locker key and even handed me someone else’s credit card slip. It may be a staffing issue, or perhaps something that could be prevented with better procedures. Overall, I’m satisfied.
