A Favorite Accommodation for Parents in Their 80s
This is our third stay with my parents, who have weak legs and eyesight. The room with an Onsen and onsen heating is incredibly comfortable and reassuring compared to our cold home. This time, we stayed at Mizuwakan, which was farther from the dining area, but the distance felt just right for a pleasant walk. During this visit, I finally experienced all the large public baths after three stays. My favorite is Kodama no Yu. Since I cannot let my father go to the large public bath alone, we plan to book a room with an Onsen again in the future. The meals are always beautifully presented and delicious, offering a sense of luxury beyond daily life; however, they are often too much for my parents to finish entirely, which makes me feel slightly guilty. We also enjoy the charm of the facility's vintage atmosphere.

Great value!
I used the last-minute discount, and the food exceeded my expectations with great taste and generous portions. There were plenty of baths, and I fully enjoyed the Onsen experience! I hope to visit again someday.

I had a relaxing time.
The meals are delicious, and the baths are exceptional. There are many baths to choose from, but the open-air bath with a view of the river is my favorite.

I had a relaxing time.
We visited to celebrate my 4-year-old son's birthday. Thank you for warmly interacting with my excited son from the moment we checked in. The Onsen was wonderful, and we enjoyed exploring various baths. It would be great if all baths had shower caps (we used one for our son) and lockers for valuables. Dinner was well-spaced, which was nice. The variety of kids' meals was impressive too. When asked if rice was needed, we said yes, but were surprised when an omurice came with the kids' dinner set. It would have been helpful to know this in advance (my son only ate the egg part of the omurice and chose plain white rice). During dinner, he received a birthday present and couldn't stop saying "This is my present!" until he fell asleep—thank you so much! The adult dinner options were light on digestion, which prevented any discomfort during our trip—a great plus! There were plenty of choices to enjoy as well. After dinner, we resumed exploring the Onsen baths—all of them were delightful. Breakfast offered a buffet-style drink selection with juices, smoothies, coffee (and milk for making café au lait), which I appreciated very much—I even had several cups! The takeaway coffee option was also convenient. We spent a relaxing time until check-out and truly appreciated how kind everyone was to our energetic son throughout our stay. After checking out, we visited Kusatsu Onsen where my son amusingly said: "I want to go back to Takino Onsen (Mori no Kodama) tomorrow," leaving us slightly puzzled... It seems Mori no Kodama's facilities are enjoyable even for 4-year-olds (he also loved other baths there).

There are many types of baths, and we are very satisfied.
Both of the two open-air baths were wonderful. I was able to enjoy them while gazing at the snowy scenery. The outside temperature was below zero, creating a head-cold, feet-warm experience. In one of the indoor baths, it seemed like splashes from people washing with showers were getting into the bathtub... Perhaps there should be more distance between the washing area and the bathtub, or maybe just have shower booths? The waterfall bath had only a trickle of water, which seemed pointless. However, for this price, being able to enjoy abundant meals and baths is fantastic. There was also a humidifier and air purifier available, and the heating was comfortable. Thank you very much.

Please be sure to visit. It was very good.
I stayed for one night on a Friday in February with the "Room Type is Up to Us Plan." It was a very spacious Japanese-style room with a cypress bath fed by the natural hot spring of Suibokukan. The view was great, and I was soothed by the sound of birds chirping. Despite it being a cold wave period, the room had onsen heating, so it was warm enough to sleep in just a T-shirt at night. When it got too hot after bathing, opening the window made it just right. There was no coldness at the entrance or washroom either, making it very comfortable. Of course, inside the hotel is also warm. Meals were served as kaiseki cuisine in private rooms at another location. The foreign staff worked very hard; although the facility is old, everything was kept clean. There are many baths available and some can be used 24 hours. Each guest receives an aluminum bottle of water in their room and there are two free cold water service spots near the bath area as well. Additionally, there is a lounge where you can relax with free tea and coffee. There are reviews mentioning that moving to the baths is difficult but I didn't find it bothersome at all. I traveled from Tokyo by express bus and upon arrival they held my luggage until check-in time; after check-out they also kindly stored my luggage for free at Shima Grand Hotel (Shima Gurando Hoteru), which is close to the bus stop. I am truly grateful for their hospitality. I felt guilty about paying such an affordable price... Everything including room quality, luggage storage service, drink lounge access and meals exceeded expectations for this price range. With easy access from Tokyo it's definitely worth visiting once!

A Journey to Enjoy Various Hot Springs
I stayed at the property very reasonably. The room was left to the staff's discretion, but it was very spacious and came with a wooden onsen bath. Moreover, there were seven baths, all with free-flowing onsen water, and I tried them all. Although I experienced hot spring fatigue at Kusatsu Onsen, my skin was smooth, and I felt warm and comfortable after bathing. The service was very attentive, and the meals were very delicious. The Vietnamese woman who served dinner in a private room was polite in her language and seemed to have studied well, which was impressive. I would like to visit again in a different season.

Overall, it was very good. I will definitely return.
It was a very affordable plan, but I was very satisfied with my stay. The room was a traditional Japanese-style room, but it was clean, spacious, and comfortable. The interior of the property was a bit complex, with bath locations scattered around. It was fun to walk around while looking at the property map! The onsen was all very pleasant and excellent. The dinner had a nice dashi flavor and everything was delicious. The breakfast was impressive, especially the onsen porridge, which was very tasty. It was snowing on the day of my stay. One concern was that the property was generally cold... There were many stoves in the corridors, but (maybe I'm just sensitive to cold) The room was also spacious, and just the air conditioning heating made my feet quite cold... (But no problem if you enter the onsen) Nevertheless, I liked it very much, so I thought I would visit again in spring.

The food is delicious.
I was very satisfied with the dinner as I could enjoy delicious food at a leisurely pace. Especially, the rice was so delicious that I ended up eating too much. The only disappointment was that there were no cotton swabs in the bath, and I would like them to be provided in all baths.

Facility is a big problem.
There are too many steps throughout the facility, including the approach to the indoor bath. The ventilation in the toilet is almost ineffective. The Room key is old and doesn't turn well, which is frustrating. The TV is small, old, and has poor reception. The Wi-Fi initially does not connect. Both the free and paid coffee taste terrible.
- 5.008月11日やすみวันที่โพสต์: 27/12/2024
The steam bath is nice.
Not only can you leisurely enjoy the onsen, but there is also a steam bath that is slightly different from a sauna, utilizing the onsen. It is a property where staying for just one night would be a waste.

It was a wonderful Stays.
It was truly a great Stays. I went to Shima Onsen for the first time in a while without expecting much from the Property. I was surprised by how good it was beyond my imagination. The hospitality was wonderful, and the meals were visually appealing and tasted very delicious. They cooked rice in a clay pot after we sat down, and the timing to receive the rice just as it was perfectly cooked was impressive. All the baths were excellent. It was really good. The staff at the Stays were pleasant, and the entire Property was clean, making it a very comfortable stay. The only disappointment was that the Room temperature was quite hot, and I couldn't adjust the heating, so I had to use the air conditioning as well. I guess it's difficult to adjust the Room temperature in winter. But still, I definitely want to go again. This time, I stayed with my mother, so next time I would like to go with my husband. I look forward to your hospitality again then.

Satisfied with the 15-tatami Room with a hinoki bath
I have always been very satisfied with the Stays and meals introduced by IKYU. Additionally, I am satisfied with the cost performance. This time, we were attracted by the buffet dinner and were able to secure two Rooms for four people. The customer service, treatment, and hospitality were excellent. Also, I liked the Nishikawa CUBE mattress so much that I purchased an equivalent mattress after returning home. I slept soundly and felt refreshed in the morning. Thank you very much.

I really liked it! Thank you.
My first time at Shima Onsen. I really liked how the atmosphere of the town matched with that of the Ryokan. We were always busy with work and talked about wanting to take a break, and this one-night stay allowed us to truly relax. The staff were very well-trained, and we were able to enjoy our meals pleasantly. Also, the futon was very comfortable to sleep on.

I visited Shima Onse...
I visited Shima Onsen for the first time in a while and chose Shima Tamura for its onsen. The facility is situated in a high location surrounded by mountains and streams, giving it a charming atmosphere. The building feels old, but there are decorations throughout that create a relaxing ambiance. The onsen is as wonderful as its reputation suggests, and although there are many guest rooms, there are also many baths, so you can relax. The baths are a bit far, but it's not much of a concern. Dinner is served in a semi-private room, and breakfast is at the venue, which I think is a meal appropriate for the price. The staff were all very kind. Overall, I got the impression that it is a hotel with a very spacious atmosphere, and since it was the end of the autumn leaves season, they were beautiful as well. I felt that the onsen of this long-established ryokan, which has many hot spring sources, is indeed wonderful. Thank you very much for your hospitality.

The customer service attitude was nerve-wracking.
The young foreign staff served us diligently, which was heartwarming. Initially, we received a ticket for our shoes, but when leaving, we were given the wrong shoes. There was a mistake at check-in. The sandal-type slippers we changed into hurt my big toe. The Room is old. The water from the faucet doesn't stop. There are many insects, the TV is small, and although the air conditioning was on, it was quite cold. Meals Private room. It's kaiseki, but I couldn't understand the explanation during the serving. If everything is written down, explanations might not be necessary... The young male staff with glasses was a bit awkward, and I hope he doesn't make us too frustrated, as it makes me anxious during this precious trip. Small, elegant items are lined up. I was too hungry, so it felt insufficient. There was little rice. If refills are possible, it would be nice to be informed initially. We were told refills were possible only after clearing the table, but it seemed like they forgot, showing no consideration... Disappointing dinner. For breakfast, they informed us about the possibility of refills as soon as we sat down, which was very appreciated. I bought several boxes of konjac mochi as souvenirs. Original and nice. I enjoyed the bath leisurely. Dinner is not worth giving stars.

It was a great bath!
I thoroughly enjoyed all the baths in the facility. Each had its own unique features and was delightful! (I did not use the open-air Ryugu bath) At the dinner buffet in the sister property, I thought it would be better if there were more local dishes. The hot pot and steak were delicious. The service of having drinks available in the lounge exclusively for guests is also a pleasant touch. The staff were courteous and had wonderful smiles. The autumn leaves were at their peak, and the view outside the window was like a painting. I would love to visit again.

The Onsen and food were very delicious, but it was disappointing that there was no bug spray for stink bugs.

The meals were very ...
The meals were very delicious as per the reviews, and the staff's hospitality from check-in to check-out was warm, allowing us to have a pleasant stay. I visited with the intention of leisurely enjoying the baths, but found it difficult to navigate inside the facility, so I had to move around with a map in hand. In the onsen with washing areas, there were places without shower caps, which I thought might be a bit inconvenient for women with long hair.

The entrance has the...
The entrance has the dignity of a long-established property, and the hostess personally welcomed us. As per the review, each dish of the kaiseki was carefully prepared, with a large variety and delicious taste. The sashimi was also fresh. The rice cooked in a small pot was a subtly delightful point. The Vietnamese woman serving us spoke polite Japanese, and it was evident that she was well-trained in Japanese-style hospitality. Although her speech was a bit difficult to understand, we could refer to the menu, so there was no problem. Rather, I was amazed at how well she mastered Japanese in such a short period, and I was impressed by her effort. The facility seems to have been expanded over time, with multiple buildings, and some parts feel old. The way to the bath is complicated, and you can't find it without looking at the map or guide inside the property. The open-air rock bath next to the Yumesou no Yu has poor footing when entering the water, and I slipped, instinctively putting my hand on a large rock opposite, injuring myself and bleeding. Thinking about what could have happened if I had hit my head sends chills down my spine. Since there seem to be many elderly guests, how about installing handrails? At the very least, I think it would be better to place warning signs at eye level to make them more noticeable. Even young people might not notice the lower warning signs if they take off their glasses in the changing room. Not limited to this open-air bath, there are many places with steps in other baths, which made me feel uneasy several times. Also, in some baths, I wondered about the cleanliness of the mats. However, the quality of the spring water is good, and both the amount and temperature of the source water are perfect. The steam bath, in particular, allows you to feel the benefits of the source water throughout your body, which I thought was wonderful. That's why I feel that more thorough safety measures would make it even better. Overall, the staff's response was good, and I was satisfied with the onsen and meals. Maintaining a facility of this scale is no easy task, but I want to support them.

Stable Shima Tamura
This was our second stay. We stayed in a room with a private onsen bath, bringing my father, who can walk but has bad legs, and my mother, who can see but has a narrow field of vision. We were able to enjoy the Shima onsen at any time and as many times as we wanted, and both of my parents were very satisfied. We leisurely enjoyed both dinner and breakfast in a private room. I was disappointed that there was no special order dish of matsutake mushrooms, but I was happy to find it included in the course. The kindness and cheerfulness of the staff at the dining area allowed us to have a pleasant time. I deducted one star each for the age of the guest room and facilities, the parts where maintenance is lacking, the waiting time at check-in, and the fact that there are many large baths and we haven't been able to visit them all yet, but it is an onsen property I would definitely like to visit again.

You can enjoy a variety of baths.
I've repeated about 10 times. The facility is old, but you can enjoy 6 to 7 types of Onsen. The spring quality is gentle and very warming. It suits my body, so I think I will visit again.

Onsen indulgence
I was excited because there were many onsens. The room I stayed in was far from the large bath, so I couldn't go there late at night, but there was a hinoki bath with onsen water in the room, which I used many times. It was great to stay at a reasonable price despite having an onsen in the room. Dinner was at a sister property, about a 3-minute walk, but it was the perfect path for a leisurely stroll, and I enjoyed a walk after dinner. I bought Takadaya's onsen manju as a souvenir at the shop. With Tamura's hospitality, good quality spring water, and souvenirs, it's a ryokan I would like to visit again.

Good Stays
It was a trip from Shima Onsen to Minakami Onsen and Kamimoku Onsen, but we concluded that Shima Tamura was the best. The atmosphere of the dining venue was nice, and the quality of the food was also good. The Onsen experience while listening to the murmuring of the forest and the flow of the river was the ultimate luxury. However, some foreigners might benefit from studying Japanese pronunciation a bit more.

The kaiseki cuisine was exquisite!
The kaiseki dinner was excellent! Every dish that came out one after another was delicious, and I ate too much! The sukiyaki towards the end was also delicious, I think the ingredients and broth were good, the meat was very tender and tasty, I definitely want to go again! The staff's timing was also good! There were many baths, and it was truly a Stays for onsen indulgence!

A property for enjoying onsen to the fullest
There were seven Onsen, and I was busy trying them all, but with their historical significance and excellent quality, I was very satisfied. The Room was far from the Onsen, and the buffet dinner venue was unexpectedly distant, so it took time to move around. The Room was a maisonette type and was spacious.

What's going on?
When it comes to Shima Onsen, "Tamura" was a dream inn for me when I was young. Although I thought I was unlucky with continuous troubles as soon as I arrived, the dinner was wonderful and felt like the only saving grace. Isn't this the harsh dividing line between inns that grow with the times and those that do not?
