    120% Satisfaction Guaranteed

    The open-air bath is surrounded by a grove of trees, offering a relaxing space that instantly lets you escape the everyday. Satisfaction was on a completely different level from any open-air bath I’ve visited before—helped, perhaps, by having it all to myself on a weekday. The meals were delicious, made with local ingredients and naturally seasoned—another highlight. The staff provided pleasant service, making genuine eye contact and attentive conversation. I’d love to visit again.

    A great traditional Japanese accommodation

    This was my second stay after visiting in January. It’s a small Accommodation, but the service, meals, and Onsen are all above average. Some Rooms seem to have an open-air bath, but even without one, the public bath is not crowded and you can relax. The spring water has a faint sulfur scent but isn’t too strong—perfect for me. It’s an Accommodation that makes you want to come back.

    The food is delicious.

    Unfortunately, I reserved a Sukiya-style 8-tatami Japanese-style room, but I was shown a dark room on the second floor with no view. (I’m not sure if all 8-tatami Japanese-style rooms are like that.) I was satisfied with the bath and meals, so next time I make a Reservation, I would like to choose a larger Room of 10 tatami mats or more with a private bath.

    The service is good, but there is an unpleasant smell inside the building.

    The staff were very polite and kind. The meals weren’t outstanding, but they were reasonably tasty. The problem was the smell in the front desk area and in the Room. The front desk area smelled like sewage, which made the place that should be the face of the Accommodation unpleasant. The Room also smelled in both the toilet and bathroom, and the toilet had a scent—possibly an air freshener—that made me feel nauseous. The view from the Room was terrible: a parking-lot view (my-car view). I wish this had been stated honestly instead of being disguised in photos. My family was also very disappointed, saying, “It’s different from the photos! We should have chosen another Hotel.” On top of that, there were only thick curtains to block visibility from outside, so even during the day we had no choice but to keep them closed to avoid being seen from the parking lot, leaving a dark atmosphere in the Room. Even if the Onsen, meals, and service are good, it’s a shame when the Room is disappointing.

    Excellent!

    It was a truly wonderful Accommodation. The Room, meals, Onsen, and service were all excellent. I would love to stay here again if I have the chance. The meals in particular were absolutely delicious.

    Accommodation with Onsen access anytime

    These days, there are fewer Accommodations where you can use the bath at any time during your stay. I’ve recently found myself falling asleep right after dinner and missing an evening bath, which is disappointing, so I really appreciate that Shikitei allows you to bathe whenever you like. The “Sansa Odori” held at Hotel Shion in the evening was also a great experience, and with the Shuttle Service bus available, we were able to enjoy a fun night.

    A Welcoming Accommodation for a Relaxing Stay

    This was my first stay, drawn by the quality of the Onsen water. We arrived a little early, but we were warmly welcomed. The Onsen was wonderful as expected, and we enjoyed it to the fullest. The meals were surprisingly delicious. The shabu-shabu dinner produced no scum at all, and the broth stayed clear to the very end. Of course, Maezawa beef was of outstanding quality. Breakfast also featured a lineup of delicious, luxurious dishes such as thick grilled horse mackerel (aji), handmade shumai dumplings, and shrimp gyoza. So captivated by the Onsen, we extended checkout by one hour and spent a relaxing time in the Room’s open-air bath. I was happy that my husband—whose birthday it was—was absolutely delighted. Thank you very much.

    It was my first time staying here.

    We stayed with children, and the female staff were very attentive, which made our stay very comfortable. The Room was clean, the bath was great, and the food was delicious. We would like to stay again. Thank you very much.

    The meals and the Onsen are excellent.

    This was my fourth visit. I usually travel alone, but this time I came with my daughter, and thanks to the Tohoku discount and IKYU Points, we were able to stay at a very reasonable price. Both the building and the Room have a calm, traditional Japanese atmosphere, which is what I love about this adult-oriented Ryokan. The property isn’t large and has only a small number of Rooms, so it’s convenient—whether you’re heading to the Onsen or the dining area. No matter when I come or what I eat, the meals are always delicious—you can really feel the chef’s dedication. Dinner was especially memorable: hot pot, Onsen-steamed wagyu beef, and sea bream sashimi were outstanding. Even my daughter, who doesn’t usually like white fish, said, “I’ve never had sea bream this delicious!” and finished every bite. Breakfast was soy milk hot pot and salmon; the salmon was tender with perfectly balanced seasoning—I wanted more. It was so good that I ended up having three extra bowls of rice. The Onsen had just the right temperature overall; although the open-air bath was slightly lukewarm, it felt pleasant, and even the sulfur scent was soothing. My daughter likes cooler baths and said she thoroughly enjoyed the open-air bath. What truly stands out about this Accommodation is the service. Every staff member kept a warm smile at all times, with polite explanations and greetings. My daughter repeatedly said, “I’ve never met staff this kind before,” impressed again and again. The training is clearly thorough—I felt that everyone genuinely values their guests. It had been a while since my last stay, but I was able to relax deeply. This is an Accommodation I’d love to visit again someday. I also noticed there were more international guests than before—it felt like things have changed compared with past visits.

    Thank you for your consideration.

    We stayed here on our moving day. Due to insufficient arrangements with the moving company, we checked in late. However, even though it was past the scheduled time, they still served us dinner, which was a great help. We were also able to relax in the Onsen and recover from our fatigue. We stayed with our 5-year-old daughter, and she was very happy with the cute bedding they prepared for her.

    First time in Morioka! Tsunagi Onsen

    This was our first time staying here. After reading the Reviews, it seemed like a good place, so we made a Reservation. Since it was my partner’s birthday, I contacted the Accommodation in advance, hoping it would be a small surprise. At dinner, we were shown to our seats in the dining area, but the table setting was covered with washi paper or something similar. The moment I removed it on my side, I saw “Happy Birthday.” Wasn’t he supposed to be sitting there? We switched seats and he seemed happy, but I was shocked that he may have seen it when he stood up. It was disappointing that this wasn’t coordinated in advance. Also, the food was served very quickly, and I would have liked you to match our pace a bit more. Having plates cleared while we were still eating made us feel awkward and tired. Wouldn’t it have been fine to clear them after we finished? The Onsen was perfect—absolutely wonderful. The next morning, although this may have been my oversight, the futons had already been put away and I wanted to relax until check-out. It was my first time having them removed before check-out. Overall, I don’t think we’ll return. Thank you for your hospitality.

    Relaxing Accommodation

    It was a long trip all the way to Iwate. I stayed at this Ryokan nearly 40 years ago and it left a lasting impression, so I came back again. I planned to stay for two nights and fully enjoy the Onsen, but even more than that, the food and hospitality were outstanding. Of course, the Onsen water quality and temperature were excellent—I soaked 11 times. When it was time to check out, I didn’t want to leave; it’s an Accommodation that made me want to return again if I have the chance, in a different season. Thank you very much.

    A small, high-quality Accommodation.

    All the meals were delicious and served in just the right portions, and I really appreciated the staff’s attentive care. Perhaps because there are only a few guest rooms, the bath area was never crowded, so I could relax and enjoy it at my own pace; the temperature was perfect, making it a superb Onsen I could soak in forever. The showerheads in the washing area had been replaced with new ones, but for some reason only the hoses were old, which felt like a missed opportunity. I think this is an Accommodation that makes you want to come back.

    This is an Accommodation I would like to stay at again.

    This was without a doubt the best Onsen Ryokan I have ever stayed at. The Onsen was at a comfortable temperature, and the atmosphere of the open-air bath was wonderful. All of the food was delicious, and there was so much that even our growing children couldn’t finish it all. Above all, the staff’s hospitality was outstanding, and we felt truly comfortable throughout our stay. We were able to spend precious time with our family in a fun, stress-free way. Thank you very much. We would love to stay again if we have the opportunity.

    Using our service again after a long time

    I stayed here during a long-overdue trip back home. Many Accommodations now offer buffet-style dining, but here you can enjoy your meal at a relaxed pace. It’s a high-end Ryokan, but the rice served at dinner was a bit disappointing, and it was completely different from what was served at breakfast. Everything else was excellent. Also, thank you for helping with my mother’s forgotten item.

    It was wonderful.

    A wonderful Ryokan that still retains the charm of traditional old-style inns. You take off your shoes at the entrance and change into slippers, and when you go out, they set out your shoes for each Room—an old-fashioned Ryokan style that truly impressed me. The Room even had a sewing kit, which reminded me that good Ryokan used to include one among the amenities, and I was delighted to find a set of luxury cosmetics I’d always wanted to try. The service was excellent as well. It was only a slight disappointment that some dishes weren’t explained, but overall I had a very comfortable stay.

    The food was absolutely delicious.

    Both dinner and breakfast were wonderful and delicious. The portions were just right for us. The Facility and amenities are a bit old, but they were clean and well maintained. One of our group is a smoker, but the only smoking area was outside, and especially with the recent bear sightings, we were a little worried.

    Family-friendly for guests with babies

    We stayed for two nights and three days with our 8-month-old baby. They provided baby wipes, baby body soap, and a diaper trash bin, so we didn’t need to bring much. They also prepared futons and pillows. They can prepare rice porridge for babies if you contact them in advance, which we really appreciated. With the Welcome Baby Plan, they let us park in a nearby spot, which was very helpful when going out. They arranged a private dining room for meals, so we could eat slowly without worrying about others. The staff were kind, and we would love to stay again.

    Day 1 of Your Tohoku Trip

    To all the staff, Thank you for your kindness and for making our first day in Tohoku so enjoyable. The meals were wonderful, and I feel you provided the best possible hospitality within the budget. Everything was delicious. In the open-air bath, we had a great conversation with guests from Aichi and Kyoto, heard some lovely stories, and were happy to have such a nice encounter during our trip.     I stayed for two nig...

    I stayed for two nights to relax on my own. I couldn’t book a room with an open-air bath because they were popular, but since there are only a few rooms in total, the large public bath was never crowded and very comfortable. Having Wi‑Fi throughout was simply the best. Maybe because it’s in the mountains, the TV reception wasn’t great, but streaming Netflix and similar services on my phone worked without any issues, so I could unwind inside the Accommodation. From Morioka Station, the flat-rate taxi fare of 5,000 yen was reasonable, and I felt it would be easy to visit even in winter. The service felt like a true Ryokan—pleasant and welcoming—and I’d love to come again. However, there are no shops nearby (there is a small store by the lakeside that’s open until around 11:00–15:00 and sells ramen, lunch items, drinks, etc.), so buying what you need in advance is essential.

    We had a wonderful stay.

    Thank you so much. We stayed here to celebrate my mother’s birthday. The warm, attentive hospitality from the proprietress and all the staff made our stay even more comfortable. Through the dishes made with many ingredients from Iwate, we were able to experience the richness of Iwate. The private open-air bath was also wonderful—you can adjust the temperature to your liking and relax without worrying about being seen. On our way home, my mother said, “I feel so much better.”

    I stayed here on my first trip to Morioka. The Onsen water suited me well; it had a gentle sulfur scent, didn’t cling to the skin, and warmed me through. I especially enjoyed the open-air bath attached to the Room, where I could relax and take my time without any worries. The meals were delicious, featuring seasonal dishes and local ingredients, and everything was served at just the right pace so I could enjoy it slowly. The building is certainly old, but it is kept very clean. The staff were also wonderful—warm and attentive—which made for a refreshing and very satisfying trip.     The Room was on the ...

    The Room was on the smaller side, but the private open-air Onsen bath in the guest room seemed to have been renovated fairly recently and felt new. I could adjust the water temperature myself, which made me very satisfied. We stayed with a preschool-aged child, and all of the staff were very kind, so we felt comfortable and at ease throughout our stay. I would recommend this property to acquaintances and friends staying in Tsunagi Onsen.

    Every year, I travel...

    Every year, I travel to Iwate during summer vacation to visit family graves and also celebrate my birthday. The Reviews said the staff were wonderful, and it truly was an excellent Accommodation just as described. As soon as we arrived at the parking lot, a staff member kindly guided us to park in front of the entrance since there was space available, which was a huge help because it was raining. I was worried our child might be noisy during dinner, but a female staff member spoke to us so warmly that our child became a big fan (laugh). The food was unbelievably delicious! When I stay at an Onsen Accommodation, I soak at least six times, so I was thrilled that I could use fresh towels every time. Also, the hair dryer was from a brand I like, so drying my hair was completely stress-free. These two points were things I had never experienced at any Ryokan before, and they really impressed me. The Onsen left my skin feeling smooth and suited me well. Thanks to the staff, we made wonderful memories and had such a pleasant stay. It makes me feel ready to work hard again. Thank you very much for your hospitality!

    Obon Holiday Season

    We found a vacancy at short notice, made a Reservation, and visited. We were shown to our Room quickly, but it was old and smelled musty. Each time we went in and out, we felt uneasy, wondering if we could sleep through the night. We went to the front desk, borrowed incense sticks, and burned them in the Room to help reduce the odor as best we could. We checked out early and moved on to our next destination. The photos did not match reality—the pictures showed a clean Room—so it felt misleading. We were disappointed that it was different from what was shown. The price was 60,000 per person, which felt expensive. Since it was a Room with a private bath, we expected it might be around that range, but overall it was disappointing for various reasons. As for the meals, we enjoyed pleasant conversations with the staff who served us. Perhaps there are not many guests arriving by motorcycle; there was little guidance for that situation, which made this trip disappointing. I am leaving this comment as a reference for other guests.

    I was very satisfied with the excellent hot springs and service. The meals were also delicious. The traditional Japanese-style, non-streamlined service, which has become rare recently, was very comforting. This is an accommodation I would like to visit again.

    Stay Here for a Baby-Friendly Onsen Experience Near Morioka!

    Stayed with my 2-year-old during a trip back home. As mentioned in other reviews, the facility is a bit old, but the interior is well-maintained and it was a lovely accommodation! The staff were incredibly kind to children, and their warm service made our stay very pleasant. **Highlights:** - Toys available in the lobby kept us entertained while waiting to check-in. - A goldfish pond next to the lobby where kids could feed them (lots of food provided), which made my child super excited. - Warm and friendly staff who greeted and thanked us generously at every opportunity. - Room service was very quick. - Meals served in private dining rooms. - Delicious meals featuring plenty of fresh, local seasonal ingredients rather than standard template dishes. - Nap futons were already prepared in the room for convenience. - High-quality toilet paper that was gentle on the skin—an unexpected but delightful touch! - Reasonably priced vending machines—small detail but much appreciated! **Points of Concern:** As others have mentioned... - The facility itself feels old; toilets and bathtubs show signs of age (the toilet lid opening loudly startled me as it almost woke up my child!). - There were many bugs outside due to mid-June weather; insect sprays were placed everywhere, which drew attention even though no bugs appeared inside our room. - No intercom system meant we sometimes missed knocks on our door. - Thin entrance doors allowed hallway noise to be heard clearly. Thank you for such a wonderful experience! I initially worried about keeping my 2-year-old entertained, but with indoor open-air baths, toys, and surrounding nature activities, we had so much fun that we stayed up late enjoying everything together! I’d love to stay here again if given another chance!

    Highly satisfied

    Despite it being a long time since my last stay, the staff remembered the requests I made previously. The overall atmosphere of the accommodation, the warm smiles of the staff, the calm and cleanliness of the room, and the meals were all very satisfying. In these times when labor shortages are often mentioned, I think it's admirable that they continue to maintain such elegant and high-quality service. I will definitely use this accommodation again. Thank you very much! (Next time, I'll try booking a higher-grade room.)
