    The Onsen and the Room are excellent!

    I love the Onsen water at Kannon Onsen and have stayed there several times, but this was my first time staying at Pygmalion. The guest room, baths, and Onsen were—as expected—excellent! However, one thing stood out: a particular female staff member in the dining area. While another staff member was explaining the dishes, she came from the opposite side of our table with sashimi and started explaining the fish, which left me wondering whose explanation I should be listening to. Also, when clearing tables after meals, she clattered dishes loudly as she took them away, which made me feel like I was being told to “finish quickly and leave.” I was also bothered that she placed dishes and cleared plates while bending down from a standing position (others knelt while serving). Since other guests were also staring at her, they may have been thinking the same thing… That part was quite disappointing. Other than that, everything was perfect; it remains my favorite Accommodation, and I would like to visit again in the future.

    The Onsen water quality, service, and meals—everything is satisfying. Because it’s a mountain Onsen, this is a trip to simply relax and enjoy the baths. It’s the kind of Onsen you visit to get away from everyday life and unwind with a long, restorative soak. I keep coming back again and again.

    The silky-smooth hot water was amazing.

    A secluded mountain Accommodation near Shimoda. The Rooms are spacious and well laid out, making it easy to relax. The Room and location are great, and a cute kitty will welcome you. The pH 9.5 hot spring water and the hostess are outstanding. Meals are just right for older guests; younger guests may want to adjust with extra rice. It’s also only about a 3-hour drive from Tokyo, so highly recommended!

    Additional note

    I also filled out the in-house questionnaire, but here are a few additional notes. Each Room has its own free-flowing Onsen bath, which is more than satisfying on its own, but I still wanted to enjoy the large public bath as well. There were plenty of bath towels and face towels available there, so I didn’t have to bring damp used towels from my Room and could use fresh dry ones instead. That was truly stress-free and appreciated (as many Accommodations these days only provide the towels in the Room). One suggestion: after dinner, we were given bottled drinking Onsen water. If possible, I’d love it if this were provided upon arrival or already placed in the Room (even better if chilled). That way, after arriving and taking a bath right away, we could immediately enjoy cold water. I’ve written quite a bit, but when I got home and took a bath at home, the hot water felt almost sharp against my skin—making me realize again how gentle Kannnon Onsen’s water is, wrapping the body softly with its soothing quality. It’s an Onsen that makes me want to return again soon. Thank you very much.

    The Onsen is excellent.

    I have visited several times, and the Onsen is always excellent. It truly feels like a luxurious Onsen experience. The meals are delicious, with generous portions that left me very satisfied. One small disappointment is the footwear provided when going outside from the accommodation building to areas like the open-air bath. They are difficult to walk in and shared among guests. Walking on slopes can be particularly challenging and feels unsafe at times. Additionally, sharing footwear with others is something I would prefer to avoid. It would be great if we could use our own shoes when stepping outside. The souvenirs were delightful, and we are already talking about visiting again!

    Satisfaction Beyond Expectations

    We stayed on November 6th with a friend. The bath, meals, and Room exceeded our expectations and were impeccable. However, the third-floor hallway of Pygmalion was filled with the smell of cigarettes. As we are strong non-smokers, we had to hold our breath while entering and exiting the Room at the end of the hallway. The Room also had an unpleasant odor upon check-in, so ventilation was quite challenging. This is why we rated the Facility 3 stars. The open-air bath under a sky full of stars and a nearly full moon was absolutely wonderful. We would love to visit again if it becomes completely non-smoking. Thank you for your hospitality!

    The hot water was wonderful...

    This was my first stay at this accommodation, known for its "beautiful skin" Onsen. The water was amazing—silky and moisturizing, the best Onsen I've experienced so far. However, I must say I was disappointed. The dining area seemed chaotic and busy. I usually prefer in-room dining or private dining rooms, but this time we dined in the shared dining area. Is it always this noisy? It felt like there were not enough staff members. There were no explanations about the dishes, and they just quickly lit the hot pot and left. In the morning, our futons were supposed to be put away during breakfast but weren’t done at all (which made us laugh). We had to call because someone came while we were using the open-air bath in our room—very inconvenient. When leaving, it was raining; my husband went to get the car and load our luggage himself without any staff offering an umbrella. This is the first Onsen accommodation I've stayed at where there wasn’t even a proper send-off (again, we laughed). It's such a shame because of how incredible the water quality of their Onsen is... that’s my honest impression. I was surprised that their souvenir cosmetics weren’t sample sizes but full-sized products! Since I care a lot about amenities, I’d love to purchase them if possible!

    The hot spring quali...

    The hot spring quality was excellent and very relaxing. My stiff shoulders felt completely relieved! It would have been nice if the large public bath was available until check-out in the morning, but it closed at 8:30 AM, which was a bit disappointing. However, I appreciated being able to use the Room's private bath. I hope to visit again someday.

    What an amazing hot spring quality!

    I finally had the chance to stay at Kannon Onsen, which was recommended by a friend over 10 years ago. I had heard about the excellent quality of the onsen water, but I was amazed by its smooth and silky texture. The room was impeccably clean, allowing for a very comfortable stay.

    I love the Onsen bat...

    I love the Onsen baths at Kannon Onsen and have used them many times. The meals are always the same menu, so I feel a bit tired of it, but the Onsen is so relaxing... One thing I notice every time is that after checking out and leaving, there’s no send-off at the entrance. I don’t necessarily expect a send-off, but this is the first accommodation where there’s none. Does settling the bill mean I'm no longer a guest? Or maybe they just don’t like me? (Haha) The Onsen really feels amazing. Even without going to the large public bath, I'm completely satisfied with the room bath!

    Even with some shortcomings, a wonderful Onsen.

    I have stayed here several times. The onsen water feels smooth like Gero Onsen, and I always appreciate the experience surrounded by vast nature. However, during this stay, I wanted to have coffee at checkout as I did last time. Since I checked in late and went straight to dinner without receiving a coffee voucher, I asked the younger front desk staff if they could provide one: Me: "I checked in late and went directly to dinner without receiving a coffee voucher. Could you please provide one?" Front Desk: "Are you sure it wasn’t given? Let me check. You might already have used it for your first cup and are trying to get a second cup for free." This response ruined what had been an otherwise wonderful stay. There were no nearby cafes, so I really wanted to enjoy a cup of coffee before leaving. When I offered to pay for it and asked if they could serve me anyway, an older staff member kindly started preparing it for me. However, the younger front desk staff scolded them right in front of me saying: "Don’t act on your own; this is my customer." This behavior spoiled what should have been a pleasant morning. From their conversation about seniority within the company—which was irrelevant—I felt that the older staff member was more focused on providing high-quality service based on customer needs rather than internal hierarchy issues. In the end, being treated as though I lied just to save money on a cup of coffee left me with an unpleasant feeling. Considering the price range of this accommodation, it's unlikely that guests would lie over something like this. It might be better if you decide whether coffee is complimentary or chargeable instead of using vouchers so that such misunderstandings don’t tarnish otherwise wonderful memories. That said, because of other excellent staff members as well as my love for your accommodation and its onsen facilities, I'll definitely return again!

    Relax and unwind.

    This is my fourth visit. Every time, I am deeply relaxed by the soothing Onsen water. This time, I brought my mother along because I wanted her to experience it too, and she was absolutely delighted. I feel happy to have done something nice for her. She even asked me to bring her again, and of course, I will! There’s no other Onsen with such amazing water quality. I’ll definitely come back!

    Meals remain unchanged.

    The meals for breakfast and dinner remain the same every day, lacking variety or excitement. Complimentary coffee or drink services would be appreciated. It would also be great to have a blood pressure monitor and massage machine available.

    Full of Wonders

    I stayed in a room with an open-air bath to enjoy the high pH Onsen, known for its skin-beautifying properties, located deep in the mountains of Izu. There were statues of Kannon with the same name as the Onsen placed throughout the entrance and facility, possibly reflecting the chairman's faith. While I appreciated the kindness of the staff, not all guests prefer overly friendly interactions. It was uncomfortable when a male staff member spoke casually to my female companion without being approached first; maintaining professional boundaries would be appreciated. As a cat lover, I didn’t mind seeing cats freely roaming around inside and outside the premises, but it did raise some concerns about hygiene. The outdoor bath in our room had torn opaque film and poorly installed curtains, making it visible from outside and difficult to relax while enjoying the Onsen. That said, the quality of the Onsen water itself was excellent.

    The Onsen is excellent.

    I am a repeat guest. The Onsen leaves my skin smooth, and the water quality is excellent. I also purchase the Onsen water to drink. Since I use the Room's bath multiple times, it would be great if bathrobes could be provided in the Room.

    Pygmalion Plan

    Staying for one night from May 2, 2025. This will be our third visit as a couple to the new building, Pygmalion, since 10 years ago. We are always impressed by the excellent quality of the Onsen water. The hospitality of the staff, the well-balanced meals—everything exceeds expectations. Looking forward to visiting again!

    This has become the best Onsen accommodation I have ever visited.

    The quality of the Onsen was excellent, with a silky texture. All the staff were friendly, refreshing, and kind. The meals might not have been extremely fancy, but they were more than satisfying for me. The room seemed to be a standard one in the main building, but it included a semi-open-air bath with an Onsen hinoki tub. Both the room and the entire facility were spotless, and there was a spacious garden perfect for strolling. The large public bath was also very clean with great views, and at night you could see countless beautiful stars. Onsen water for drinking was available unlimitedly from both your room's bath and various dispensers throughout the facility—an excellent service overall. Being surrounded by nature in the forest meant plenty of birds singing pleasantly around us. I loved it so much that I want to visit again soon!

    Unfortunately, this time didn't work out.

    When I stayed with my family before, the hot water was excellent, and the abalone was delicious. When I told my friends about it, they wanted to visit too, so we decided to come this time. The onsen has a smooth texture and is very pleasant. However, when we were shown to our room by the staff member, their explanation was too fast for all three of us to understand properly; we had to read the provided paper for clarification. The staff at other dining areas were friendly though. The most disappointing part was that abalone wasn’t served at dinner. Perhaps it’s because we chose a lower-priced plan? If so, we would have preferred to book a plan that included abalone—everyone in our group said so. I recommended this place to my friends and had high expectations this time, which made it even more disappointing.

    I was healed by the Onsen!

    This was my second stay here. I remembered the amazing quality of the Onsen from over 10 years ago, and it was just as wonderful this time! Last time I stayed in Pygmalion, but this time I chose a Japanese-style room in the main building. The room is spacious, and I loved being able to relax in the private hinoki bath with natural hot spring water anytime I wanted. The sound of flowing water and the scent of hinoki were truly soothing. Whether it's the day-use Onsen facility, large communal bath, or private bath in the room, there's no stress or fatigue from enjoying any of them. It would be perfect if check-out were at 11:00 AM... The meals were fine but not particularly memorable. There were many other positive aspects regarding details like facilities and amenities as well. I would definitely love to stay here again!

    Once again, we had a wonderful stay at Pygmalion. It's an excellent property with nothing to complain about, except for one thing. The room's bath shower was clogged, which made it difficult to wash my hair. If it weren't for that, it would have been perfect. Wishing the proprietress continued good health.

    The best Onsen

    The best Onsen quality I have ever experienced. Not only does it make your skin smooth, but it also whitens it. The food was delicious, and the staff's hospitality was excellent. I was also delighted to receive souvenirs like lotion. The hostess is a wonderful person as well.

    The smooth and silky Onsen is the best!

    Last time, I recommended this place to my friend, and we stayed here together. My friend loved the Onsen's silky smooth water quality, so we decided to stay here again this time. Previously, we didn't use the Room's private bath, but this time we did. We found that the water in the Room's bath felt richer compared to the large public bath. We enjoyed it so much that we bathed twice at night and twice in the morning, leaving us completely satisfied. My friend even mentioned wanting to come back regularly. However, the only disappointment was that the outdoor bath in the large public bath was lukewarm. The starry sky from the outdoor bath is incredibly beautiful, but in winter, it's too cold to stay in for long.

    The hot spring quality is truly exceptional!

    Discovered this accommodation while searching for a pet-friendly onsen with free-flowing hot springs and made a reservation. Who knew Shimoda had such an amazing onsen with silky smooth water quality!? We stayed in the "Ubusuna" detached room, which allows pets, but there were no pet supplies like cages or toilets provided. Be sure to bring your own pet essentials when staying here! In the room, we left the bath door open to enjoy a semi-open-air feeling. Unfortunately, there was a tree blocking the view of the starry sky, but we were very satisfied with the silky smooth water quality of the onsen. Compared to other accommodations in Izu, while taste was fine, we found the portion sizes slightly lacking—my husband felt it wasn’t enough. The rice served was very soft; perhaps it’s tailored for elderly guests? This accommodation is truly all about its exceptional onsen quality and is perfect for those looking to enjoy hot springs above all else!
