It was a wonderful accommodation.
We stayed in a detached guest room with an open-air bath, and the Facility, bath, hospitality, and meals were all excellent. The Japanese garden is also beautifully maintained—truly an outstanding Accommodation. It is well worth spending a little extra to stay here.

First Time at Tamatsukuri Onsen
I stayed here after visiting Izumo Taisha on 7/23. From the warm welcome at the entrance, to tea served in the lobby, and being shown to my room, I received heartfelt hospitality. Both dinner and breakfast were served in a private dining room, so I could relax and enjoy them. The fresh greenery outside the window was also beautiful. The mixed-gender open-air bath was spacious and wonderfully open, with a comfortable temperature that made it easy to soak for a long time. Under clear skies with plenty of stars visible, I was able to spend a truly relaxing time. I also enjoyed viewing the garden on the expansive grounds; it was beautifully maintained. After checkout as well, they kindly assisted with things like driving me to the station, and in every respect I felt the excellence of this long-established Ryokan. I would love to visit again. Thank you very much.

I was satisfied.
We traveled to celebrate my husband’s birthday. This year, we toured around the San’in region. I had always wanted to visit the famous Tamatsukuri Onsen, known for its beautifying waters. First, I was amazed by the large open-air bath. The indoor bath also felt wonderfully historic and was very clean. We were able to celebrate my husband’s birthday while enjoying a thoughtfully prepared dinner. The garden is magnificent—I was impressed by how meticulously it is maintained in every corner. All of the staff were pleasant and welcoming. However, I was disappointed with the cushion covers in the dining area.

Warm hospitality
You will be warmly welcomed at the entrance, served tea in the lobby, and escorted to your room—classic hospitality with a comforting touch. The cheerful smiles of the international staff were especially heartwarming. Breakfast is served as a set meal, so you can enjoy it calmly without the bustle of a buffet. The mixed-gender open-air bath is spacious and made me feel as if I were soaking in the sea. The garden is lovely to admire from the lobby or to explore on foot. Everything felt just right—an Accommodation I was truly satisfied with.

Unfortunately.
Staff responded promptly with guidance to the drop-off area on arrival, luggage assistance, and moving our car to the parking lot. The mixed-gender garden open-air bath was also impressive—being that spacious and fed by free-flowing natural hot spring water is remarkable. However, aside from these two points, this Accommodation was disappointing. Perhaps staying in a detached Room would have been a different experience. The Room’s bedroom and the space with the dining table were new and pleasant, but the bathroom area was extremely small: for a Room for three people there was only one small, shallow washbasin; the toilet was so cramped that someone with a larger build could barely move; and the bath itself had an old, tiny tub like you’d find in an older apartment complex. The meals were the biggest disappointment—both in taste and content. Breakfast was far less enjoyable than what I could make at home myself, which made me sad. At dinner, even after we had finished eating and waited quite some time, the next dish still didn’t arrive… and while I assumed staff were busy, they were standing around chatting instead.

The Facility is old, which was disappointing.
I had previously visited Tamatsukuri Onsen just for a day trip, but this time I stayed overnight. Many of the guests were older. The Facility had a strong Showa-era feel, which may suit those who like retro style. The Room refrigerator was a “National” model and still worked well. The staff were kind and always smiling, providing excellent hospitality. However, the shared toilets were Japanese-style and had mold in places, so I felt it might be better to close them off entirely. I also used the private family bath for 45 minutes for 800 yen, but in hindsight the in-room bath would have been enough.

Wonderful free-flowing Onsen!
I choose an Accommodation based solely on free-flowing Onsen. Here, every bath is a free-flowing “beauty” hot spring. The large open-air bath in the garden is mixed-gender, but guests enter wearing the provided bathing garments, so couples and families can enjoy it together. I was able to relax while soaking in the vast waters. The Room was spacious and spotless, and the meals were absolutely delicious. The staff were kind and attentive as well. I also enjoyed exploring the Japanese garden on the expansive grounds and visiting the Emperor Showa’s former resting place. I would definitely like to stay again.

This Ryokan has been famous for decades for photos of its open-air bath, so I had always wanted to stay at least once. The building is old, but it is well maintained and comfortable. The staff were kind, and I was surprised at how fluent in Japanese the foreign employees were. The meals were nothing particularly special, but for this price range they were straightforward and satisfying.

A Vast Mixed-Gender Open-Air Hot Spring Bath
I visited again for the first time in 30 years. The open-air mixed-gender bath was wonderfully liberating, and I ended up soaking in it three times. My skin felt silky smooth. Since I chose the standard dinner course, the portion size felt slightly small. I’d love to come back again.

Thank you as always.
I stay in the Aioi Room about twice a year. The soothing scent of incense throughout the property and the warm welcome from the staff always make me feel at ease. Above all, I’ve become hooked on the sense of openness in the spacious open-air bath, and visiting Chorakuen is what I look forward to most.

It was wonderful.
I was impressed from the moment we were warmly welcomed on arrival. The mixed-gender open-air bath was spacious and at just the right temperature, and since we went in the evening, it had a wonderfully tranquil atmosphere. The meals were generous in portion and everything was delicious—I ate so much I felt uncomfortably full. After check-out, we took a morning stroll through the garden, which was also well worth seeing. We would love to stay again.

This is the best Ryokan!
I was truly impressed by the mixed-gender open-air bath! We were lucky to have clear weather, and it was wonderful to see the stars. The large public bath is also spacious and comfortable, and the staff’s warm hospitality is excellent. I’d love to stay here again when I visit Tamatsukuri Onsen!

Relax and Unwind at the Year-End
It was a very relaxing accommodation. The Onsen water was excellent and felt great on the skin. The meals were also very delicious and satisfying. I would love to visit this accommodation again.

The Room and bath are nice.
The Room had four beds and a bar counter, with ample space that made it very comfortable. We especially enjoyed the bar counter after meals, which added to the relaxing atmosphere. In the morning, we used the spacious bath. Although the water was slightly deep, there was a spot to lie down and enjoy soaking while watching the sunrise. It was a Hotel we wished we could stay at longer. It would be nice if there were partitions during meals to create a private dining atmosphere.

Family Trip
The room was renovated, spacious, and comfortable. The parking lot is gravel and could benefit from paving. The bath facilities, including the mixed-gender open-air bath and separate gender-specific baths, had limited washing areas, which made me wonder how they would handle a rush of guests. Additionally, the shower water pressure was weak. Regarding the staff: after check-in, I waited at the front desk but wasn’t assisted with my travel bag and had to carry it myself to the room. As a result, I missed hearing any explanation about the Ryokan. The room key was left in an unlocked door; later on, I went back to retrieve it from reception and asked for an explanation about the Ryokan’s facilities then. Many staff members seemed new or unfamiliar with details about the Ryokan; even questions like where vending machines were located received unclear answers. As for attire in the mixed-gender open-air bath: women’s garments became transparent when wet—many seemed to make their own adjustments after their first visit—and men’s attire felt inadequate as well (resembling disposable surgical pants). It would be great if both were improved. There were no high chairs with belts available for infants during meals; we had to bring our stroller into the dining area instead. The only chairs provided assumed children wouldn’t move or jump out of them easily. When I asked at reception if they had something like a Bumbo seat available for babies, they responded dismissively. I felt there was little understanding or accommodation for children overall. At dinner service, we heard that Matsue's specialty clam soup (shijimi-jiru) would be served at breakfast and that refills were allowed upon request—but during breakfast service this wasn’t mentioned by staff proactively either time we asked courageously! One refill contained just four clams inside while another refill lacked even lids altogether suggesting symbolic closure perhaps?

Enjoy the Special Mountain Lodge Suite
The private open-air bath in the Tokiwano Room was particularly exceptional, complementing the exquisite cuisine and outstanding service.

Dinner Service Timing
We were unable to request the timing for lighting the fire for our meal, and as a result, we had to eat dishes that had gone cold. For a Ryokan of this class, I expected such accommodations to be handled without needing to make specific requests.

This was my third visit, but I won't go again!
① The spacious bath was appealing, but the Onsen at Tamatsukuri felt old and dim. ② It was the first time I encountered a charge for morning coffee at that price. ③ The room was spacious and convenient to use. ④ I heard the room bath also used Onsen water, so I tried to fill it up, but no matter how tightly I closed the plug, the water kept draining out. Despite trying three times (filling it up to let it cool down due to the heat), I couldn't use it even once. Overall, considering the price, I wouldn't return again.

It was a very splendid Ryokan. The garden was well-maintained despite its size, the Onsen was clean and relaxing, leaving my skin smooth. The room was thoughtfully prepared down to the smallest details, which made me very happy.

The Onsen is spacious.
The onsen is spacious and might be worth a visit. The accommodation offers meals that are all pre-prepared, featuring plenty of fresh fish from the San'in region. However, instead of serving warm dishes immediately, they use a heating method to serve them, which felt somewhat lacking in warmth.

Mixed-gender open-air bath
This Onsen holds cherished memories from 50 years ago when I stayed here with my family. We were fortunate to enjoy the large mixed open-air bath, resembling a pond, all to ourselves, making it feel like a luxurious private bath. The cuisine was plentiful and absolutely delicious.

I stayed here with my son on our trip. Although we arrived late, we were promptly guided to dinner, and during that time, the staff kindly brought our luggage to the room—such attentive service. All the other staff members were also very kind and professional. The meals were incredibly delicious and meticulously prepared. The bath included a surprisingly spacious open-air bath, which was truly impressive. This is a historic Ryokan that even hosted Emperor Showa in the past. It’s an accommodation where everything is well-coordinated, providing peace of mind.

Hospitality Accommodation
Upon check-in, you will be guided to your room while being introduced to the hotel facilities. Shuttle service to the station is available according to your departure time, which was very convenient. The largest open-air Onsen in Japan is mixed-gender but can be enjoyed leisurely at night. The Japanese garden, once enjoyed by Emperor Showa, is a unique highlight of this Ryokan. As soon as you step out of the Ryokan, you’ll find yourself on the main street of the Onsen town, perfect for a stroll with various shops to explore. It’s also delightful that the private bath in the guest room provides natural Onsen water. This Ryokan has hosted members of Japan's Imperial Family during their visits to Shimane Prefecture, including Emperor Showa himself. You can even view the rooms where they stayed. It was truly a memorable journey—thank you!

From the Room to the Bath
The Room was far from the bath! Although the bath was nice, it was too far to go casually, which was disappointing.

4th time
This is my fourth visit because I love the spacious open-air rock bath. I stayed in a separate building, and the private open-air bath in the room, which is also an Onsen, was very relaxing. However, dinner was not quite to my liking. Since I'm not used to sweet soy sauce, I wanted regular soy sauce instead but was oddly asked for confirmation with "Kikkoman, right?" I'd appreciate more careful preparation of meals as well.

Wonderful Yunonosuke Accommodation
There was a convenient shuttle bus from Tamatsukuri Onsen Station to the accommodation. We were warmly welcomed at the entrance, and our luggage was carried for us. The explanation in the room was thorough and made us feel comfortable. The room was spacious, and from the balcony, we could enjoy views of a waterfall, flowing water, and greenery, which felt very pleasant. A basket provided for walking through the garden to reach the large open-air bath was very convenient. The large open-air bath offered bathing garments, and we enjoyed it both at night and in the morning. The onsen temperature was just right for relaxing and healing. The meals were exquisite—beautifully presented and incredibly delicious—bringing us happiness with every bite. We also had the opportunity to visit "Showa Emperor's Room," where Emperor Showa once stayed, which became a memorable experience for us. Everything about this stay was exceptional! Thank you so much to IKYU.com for offering such an amazing experience at this price point—it truly became a once-in-a-lifetime memory! My friends were deeply moved as well!

Wonderful!
We stayed for one night at the detached Aioi Room. The space was more than enough for two people, yet it was very cozy, clean, and comfortable. We were impressed by the thoughtful design. The open-air bath with a footbath in the room was especially amazing. The double doors, spacious and clean changing area, and two sinks were excellent features. Additionally, there was a separate vanity table with a magnifying mirror—every detail showed great attention to comfort, leaving nothing to be dissatisfied about. The view of the garden from the room was also beautiful. From our arrival at the carport to our departure, we were well taken care of by various staff members including those at reception; everyone provided courteous service that made our stay pleasant. Thank you very much!
