We returned after hearing the guest rooms had been newly renovated. There were plenty of towels, and the bath had a lovely hinoki scent. It was a bit disappointing that the TV was old. We upgraded our dinner, and it included everything we wanted—very satisfying. The sea urchin in particular was outstanding! Only the Iki beef felt a bit too fatty for us adults.

A 3-Night Multiple Night Stay with Views of Tsushima on an Island Where the Gods Reside, Enjoying the Beauty of Many Islands
During my Kyushu trip in mid-June, I stayed for a 3-night Multiple Night Stay in the top-floor (3rd floor) Kairi Suite with a natural hot spring ocean-view open-air bath (Japanese-Western style Room). First of all, thank you for kindly answering my questions even before my stay. In particular, the precise times of the tides that would allow a visit to Kojima Shrine were extremely helpful. Right after the perfect sandbar appeared during spring tide—before other visitors arrived—I was able to make a quiet, mystical visit under a blue sky as sunlight began to stream in. The view from the Room was truly spectacular: Yumoto Bay right in front of me and Tsushima in the distance. Watching the sun set into the ria coastline dotted with beautiful small islands—and then seeing night fall over the inlet—was simply breathtaking. That said, while spacious, the layout feels somewhat dated and not very efficient. The open-air bath has no washing area, so you need to use the indoor bath for that. Also, access to both the open-air bath and terrace is only through the living room windows, so after dark I couldn’t help but notice insects. Even so, I thoroughly enjoyed the open-air bath itself—the view was outstanding and the water quality was excellent. Just as described (“it turns golden when exposed to air”), the surface shimmered like gold leaf and felt especially magical when lit by sunset. However, since very hot source water (around 70°C) is temperature-controlled only by adjusting flow without adding water, care is needed when managing bathing temperature. Even over three nights, every meal was enjoyable and reflected craftsmanship throughout. Dining at the counter while taking in an incredible sunset view added its own special touch each evening. From seasonal purple sea urchin dishes; “hell-grilled” live abalone; thick-cut grouper sashimi with wonderful texture; Iki beef; and red sea urchin just beginning to come into season—along with local sake, craft local beer that pairs well with seafood, and long-aged barley shochu enjoyed at its birthplace—I was able to fully savor Iki’s unique food and drinks. Lastly, I heard that pearl farming is now being developed in Yumoto Bay as well, so I purchased twin-pearl accessories at the shop—something rarely seen in other major pearl-farming regions—as souvenirs. To everyone at “Iki Retreat Kairi Murakami by Onko Chishin,” thank you very much for creating such a wonderful stay. When I visit Iki again, I will definitely return.

Disappointing shortcomings for a high-class Hotel, despite being soothed by the spectacular sunset.
This was my first trip to Iki, and I arrived with great anticipation. What left the strongest impression was the breathtaking view of the sun setting into the sea. The spectacular scenery from the restaurant counter seats was truly wonderful, and I found myself watching it for so long that I lost track of time. The Onsen in the Room also felt great, with excellent water quality. However, the stay I had been looking forward to ended up being extremely disappointing due to a gap that did not feel worthy of a high-class Hotel at all. First, regarding the guest room: although you kindly placed us in an end Room in consideration of our request to spend time quietly, the sound of cicadas in the nearby trees echoed at an extraordinary volume, and I could not relax at all. When assigning this Room during summer, wouldn’t some advance explanation or consideration be necessary? In addition, the low and inconsistent level of service among staff was also serious. At check-in, a female staff member seemed overly focused on following a manual and appeared awkward, creating an atmosphere where it was difficult to ask questions. Since I cannot drink alcohol, when I mentioned that one of my Diamond member benefits included sweets containing shochu, there was no alternative offered or empathetic response—only an “Ah…” as she trailed off—so I ended up backing down out of consideration. At dinner, staff stood very close by for extended periods; it felt like they were always right next to us. I couldn’t settle down because I kept wondering whether I should say something. Furthermore, the next morning someone who appeared to be kitchen staff walked right past us without making eye contact or offering any greeting, which felt uncomfortable. I also did not feel any warmth from staff during lunch or during the Shuttle Service to the port at departure; everything felt purely procedural, which made for a disappointing stay. The only exception was the female staff member who assisted us at dinner. She served us naturally and professionally—it finally felt like service at a level appropriate for this class. She even prepared an unexpected celebratory dessert for us, which made me very happy. Thank you very much. Overall Reviews were highly rated, so perhaps it was simply a matter of compatibility with those who happened to assist me—or perhaps my own perception played a part. Still, even after staying almost monthly at Hotels in this class over roughly the past 10 years, this time left me particularly disappointed. With hopes for improvement going forward, this is my first time leaving such comments. Because this is an appealing Hotel with so much potential، I sincerely hope it becomes an Accommodation where guests can feel comfortable no matter who is assisting them. I have written many things here، but in my heart I'd like to cherish only beautiful memories.

The staff’s attentiveness is outstanding.
Thank you for your thoughtful emails even before our stay. On the day, our flight was suddenly canceled and we had to take the ferry, but you quickly adjusted the rental car arrangements. The food was cooked right in front of us, and both the taste and portions were excellent; the drinks were delicious too. The hot spring water quality was great, and we were able to truly relax in both body and mind. Everything was perfect!

A Disappointing Stay
We had been looking forward to finally staying at this Accommodation as a family. The Room was flawless, and the open-air bath (not free-flowing) was spacious and relaxing. However, the service at the dinner venue was terrible! Even though there were three of us, we were shown to counter seats, and I have always been uncomfortable with counter seating... There was no discussion about seating at check-in either—we were simply taken to the counter. When I told them I felt uncomfortable with counter seats and asked for a table instead, they said in a mocking tone, “What’s so embarrassing about that?” I was shocked! That is not something you say to a guest!! We often stay at luxury Hotels, but this was the first time anyone has spoken to us like that!! As we started our meal in disbelief as a family, they cleared dishes one after another in rapid succession—even taking away the turban shell I was still eating—leaving me speechless!! They also rushed us for drink orders at an unbelievable pace. They claim to offer a luxury experience, but the poor quality of service was unacceptable.

Thank you very much.
A trip for four, including my elderly parents. We requested Shuttle Service in advance and help arranging a taxi for the next day, and they handled everything with great care, which was very helpful. The Facility itself feels a bit old, but the interior has a dignified, stately atmosphere and is kept very clean, so we were comfortable. It might have been even better if the locations of power outlets for charging were easier to find. The Wi-Fi worked well. All staff were friendly and welcoming with warm smiles, and our family was able to relax. The meals were outstanding and delicious, and we thoroughly enjoyed them along with Iki’s local sake. The bath is a reddish-brown Onsen that may not be to everyone’s taste, but it left our skin feeling moisturized. The ocean view from the in-room open-air bath was incredible. This is a Hotel we would love to visit again when we have the chance. Thank you all very much. It was a truly enjoyable trip.

Great.
The best part was the meals. The large abalone, shabu-shabu, and lightly seared dishes were incredibly delicious. On the second day, we had the purple sea urchin course. I had enjoyed sea urchin at sushi restaurants during the day, but what I had at the Hotel was completely different—truly outstanding. During meals, the Hotel staff’s kind attentiveness and conversation made it even more special. The bath was also wonderful and left my skin smooth. It was a happy time. Thank you very much.

You can spend the whole day at the Hotel.
The weather was poor, so we had given up on the Tatsunoshima sightseeing cruise, but on the day our staff quickly checked for a boat departing an hour later and arranged a taxi Reservation, so we made it in time and enjoyed a great cruise. The service was excellent.

A Highly Satisfying First Trip to Iki Island
My first trip to Iki Island was a family getaway to celebrate my 60th birthday, with the main purpose of visiting an olive grove. While searching for a good Hotel, I came across one that caught my eye: “Iki Retreat Kairi Murakami by Onko Chishin.” I was impressed from the very beginning. We took an earlier ferry than planned and arrived early without notifying them, but despite the disruption to their schedule, they responded flexibly and made us feel truly welcome. From there, everything was taken care of—hospitality beyond expectations down to the smallest details—making it an unforgettable and deeply satisfying two days for me at 60. The meals were outstanding, needless to say; we enjoyed Iki’s local delicacies to the fullest (though it was a bit too much food). And what I especially won’t forget is the dark brown, silky-smooth Onsen bath—I went in again and again. Next time, I’d love to return during sea urchin season.

It was a wonderful stay.
Despite our Multiple Night Stay, you prepared different dishes each evening, and we were truly moved by your thoughtful attention to detail. The teppanyaki on the second night was especially outstanding—both the flavors and the presentation were exceptional, making it an unforgettable experience. The Room was comfortable, and all the meals in the property were delicious, so we enjoyed a pleasant stay from start to finish. All of the staff were kind and attentive, which made our stay truly memorable. We would love to return again. Thank you very much.

The weather on the day was unfortunately disappointing.
It was a shame that it was very windy and rainy on the day of our stay. I hope to visit again.

The beauty of Tsutsu...
The beauty of Tsutsukihama in summer and the sunset from the Accommodation were so wonderful that we came back in winter to see Iki’s sea and enjoy the teppanyaki dinner at this Accommodation. The water around Iki is exceptionally clear, but since the light is not as strong as in summer, I wasn’t expecting much—yet I was amazed by how beautiful it was. In Reiwa 7, we visited three times, and this time we stayed in a Room with a slightly larger open-air bath. The open-air bath at the large public bath is also excellent, but we were able to relax and enjoy a soak while looking out from the third floor toward the distant silhouette of Tsushima. We also got to enjoy our biggest highlight this time—the teppanyaki dinner—and we were completely satisfied with these three days. All of the staff were friendly and created a warm, welcoming atmosphere, making this a wonderful Accommodation where you can unwind from busy everyday life. Thank you very much for taking such good care of us.

Thank you for your exceptional hospitality during our stay.
A traditional accommodation in Iki has been renovated into a retreat brand, offering a cozy and charming stay. While some parts of the facility may feel slightly dated, they have been properly renewed, leaving no room for dissatisfaction. The service was impeccable from the moment we arrived by rental car, with attentive care that exceeded expectations. As for the onsen, it is said to be very old and has excellent heat-retention properties. Unfortunately, due to bad weather, we couldn't use the open-air bath, which was disappointing; however, the bath itself was incredibly relaxing. After bathing, you can unwind in the lounge while enjoying sparkling beverages. The meals were truly exceptional—both dinner and breakfast served at the counter were outstanding in every aspect. Conversations with the chef and staff were not only enjoyable but also highly insightful. This was my first visit to Iki during a business trip to Fukuoka. Although there are still many attractions on the island I haven't explored yet (despite some challenges with access from mainland Japan), I look forward to visiting again with my family next time!

Golden Glow High-Concentration Onsen
This Onsen boasts an ultra-high concentration, approximately 17 times the standard for being classified as an Onsen, with golden-colored water that shines beautifully. It was truly a rare and precious experience. The Room also had its own private Onsen, and combined with the large public bath, we enjoyed multiple relaxing soaks in this luxurious hot spring. The juice and snacks at the lounge were delicious. The Room was spacious with a stunning ocean view right in front of us, creating a soothing and comfortable space. However, there was one disappointing aspect... During breakfast the next morning at the counter overlooking the ocean, two foreign gentlemen—speaking French so likely from Europe—placed a large paper carton of milk from a convenience store along with bread on their table. This came as quite a shock to us. Even if they had informed Hotel staff beforehand, wouldn’t it have been more appropriate to consume such items in their Room? While I do not know which country they were from, I wondered whether they would do something similar at a five-star hotel in their home country or if they assumed it would be acceptable because this is Japan? It felt like there was some misunderstanding about Japanese hospitality and Hotel etiquette that left me feeling uncomfortable. Perhaps Hotel staff could have gently addressed this situation—not by reprimanding them but by kindly suggesting that such items be consumed in their Room instead? As part of maintaining pride as a retreat brand, I believe there could have been better communication to uphold standards while respecting cultural differences. When in Rome, do as the Romans do—isn’t that how it should be? If Japanese breakfast wasn’t suitable for them due to personal preferences or dietary restrictions, perhaps arrangements could have been made beforehand through proper communication. If similar situations arise again in future stays involving other guests like these individuals next time around—I hope gentle guidance will be provided discreetly without causing discomfort overall! Of course—the fault primarily lies upon those particular overseas visitors themselves—but sharing proximity alongside such behavior slightly dampened what otherwise would've remained perfect moments altogether!

It was a relaxing experience.
We stayed for two nights as a family. The meals, onsen, and hospitality were absolutely top-notch. With an abundance of locally sourced ingredients, it truly felt like the epitome of luxury. The onsen water is straight from the source—this is what an authentic onsen should be! The outdoor bath surrounded by aged amber-colored stones was also stunning. The room amenities are standard. It would be nice to have hair dryers like Refa, Repronizer, or Ya-man for better appeal to women since many other accommodations are focusing on this aspect nowadays. However, this accommodation isn’t one to judge based on amenities alone... Perhaps because it’s located on a sacred island, staying here brings a sense of peace and calmness—and makes you feel very sleepy (in a good way)! Both the staff at the accommodation and taxi drivers were kind and gentle. This is definitely an accommodation worth visiting at least once in your life. Note: If you plan to visit the small island shrine known as "Japanese Mont Saint-Michel," make sure to check the tide schedule beforehand!

Excellent meals
The meals were excellent in terms of content, presentation, and taste. I love teppanyaki, and it's rare to find a place where you can enjoy it at this price. The room was spacious and comfortable, but the pathway from the bathroom to the open-air bath was a bit concerning. The onsen was pleasantly warm, retained heat well, and even helped heal my foot injury. The view from the private open-air bath in the room was stunning; however, in the morning it felt too exposed to fully relax as there were ships and workers at the pier nearby. It would be nice if there were something for privacy when using it.

If traveling from Fukuoka
To reach a luxury accommodation from Fukuoka City, Kurokawa and Yufuin felt a bit far. However, with just a 1-hour jetfoil ride from Fukuoka City, you can arrive in Iki. It's perfect!

It was a wonderful Hotel.
This is a Hotel I had been curious about for a long time. The bath was pleasant and always cleaned beautifully. The food was delicious, and even though I was full, I finished everything with ease. However, one disappointing thing was that the person who carried my bag placed it on the low table, which surprised me. Perhaps they were not accustomed to such tasks. Because of this, I deducted one star from my rating. I would love to visit again. Thank you very much!

A Timeless Iki Accommodation
I finally had the chance to visit the accommodation I had been dreaming of for years. From the moment of check-in, the staff's attentive service, the clean and comfortable room with an open-air bath, the meals that impressed me with every dish, and the breathtaking scenery made for a flawless stay. The open-air bath in my room allowed me to adjust the temperature to my liking, and before I knew it, I had spent an hour soaking while enjoying the view. I also experienced an oil treatment at the spa, which was so relaxing that I fell asleep during it. This is an accommodation I would love to revisit in a different season.

Thank you for your patronage.
The only 5-star Hotel on the remote island offers premium dining, and I was looking forward to my stay after completing the Reservation. However, I felt that the price did not match the experience provided. Thank you for arranging an ambulance and extending my checkout time when I experienced severe dizziness early in the morning due to seasickness from traveling from Tsushima. I was looking forward to breakfast but couldn't enjoy it, which was a bit disappointing. Next time, I hope to fully enjoy the Hotel life.

A Relaxing Accommodation
Although just an hour by ferry from Fukuoka, I was amazed by the clarity of Iki's winter sea and decided to visit in summer to experience its beauty. However, my main purpose was to enjoy the summer delicacies at this accommodation. I savored traditional Japanese cuisine featuring Iki's sea urchin as the highlight, paired with local Iki shochu. This time, I splurged on my favorite homemade karasumi from the accommodation and enjoyed it in a luxurious pasta dish at home. The karasumi here is exceptional—mildly salted with a rich and mellow flavor. The room’s open-air bath is wonderful, but the private bath allows for a more relaxing soak where you can fully appreciate the quality of the hot spring water. There’s no doubt that this is a fantastic accommodation perfect for relieving work fatigue.

The so-called premium kaiseki was disappointing.
The premium kaiseki meal with photos on IKYU.com differs significantly from the actual content. The simmered dish shown in the photos features spiny lobster and abalone cooked with seasonal vegetables, but no such dish was served. Paying nearly 60,000 yen per person for farmed abalone after traveling to a remote island was disappointing. Six years ago, Kairi Murakami changed its management and claims to embrace "cherishing the old while creating the new," but it seems mismatched with its reputation as a culinary Ryokan introduced in magazines like Kateigaho. While there are reports that natural fish is hard to source in Iki, I would prefer offerings similar to Kokumin Kyukamura or Hoshino Resorts' Kai series, which focus on local ingredients at more reasonable prices.

A Rewarding Trip for Yourself.
Let's strive again from tomorrow. I would definitely like to revisit, as coming here made me feel clear and refreshed. The staff kindly arranged a sightseeing taxi, allowing me to see and feel the beauty of Iki Island. As for the accommodation, while the entrance appeared old, once inside, an overwhelming view completely erased any concerns about that. The serene and beautiful sea was breathtaking; there were two chairs placed perfectly where I felt like sitting all day from morning till night. I realized after returning home that my room had been upgraded. The private open-air bath in the room was enchanting; when you turn on the faucet, the water turns golden due to air bubbles—it was so relaxing that I lost track of time soaking in it. The large public bath also featured golden water with spacious indoor and outdoor baths where one could linger endlessly. For meals, dinner was served in a dining area overlooking the sea—each dish amazed both visually and taste-wise; it left quite an impression on my stomach! If there's one thing I'd mention, it's that meal service felt a bit rushed like an assembly line—I would have preferred eating at my own pace more leisurely. For breakfast, I personally hoped for better rice quality. This time was a solo trip; next time I plan to visit with my wife!

Visited again
This is a hotel perfect for a multiple night stay. The meals are already delicious, but with a multiple night stay, you can enjoy different menus or teppanyaki in a private room. The Onsen in the room is my favorite! The water feels incredibly fresh, and combined with the view, I found myself going in and out repeatedly. While I also like the large public bath, it’s slightly inconvenient as the water quality makes it hard to see the bottom. One suggestion would be to improve the lounge area. It feels like an underutilized space, and the snacks and drinks provided could be updated to match modern preferences. Iki Island itself is already an amazing destination, but this place enhances that experience many times over!

Highly Recommended Accommodation!
The cuisine is simply outstanding! The portions were a bit large for seniors, but the broth from the simmered Kue fish head was exceptional. Breakfast was also satisfying, with perfectly cooked rice that made us want seconds. The Onsen's saltwater bath provided a unique sense of relief from accumulated fatigue, making this an accommodation we would love to visit again.
