    Dinner

    A long-awaited family trip. Dinner time was either 17:45 or 19:00, and we chose 19:00, arriving at the dining area on time. Most guests seemed to have opted for the earlier slot, so the place was quite empty. It made us feel a bit apologetic for being late. Perhaps due to service arrangements, we were seated at a table near the staff entrance. Unfortunately, the sounds and voices from the back area were noticeable, leaving us with an impression of discomfort rather than focusing on enjoying the meal.

    Repeat visit. As always, the service is very polite, and the accommodation is clean and pleasant. One thing that caught my attention was the meals. For this price range, I would like to see a bit more creativity. For example, the main dish for dinner was shabu-shabu, but it seemed like a menu item without any special touches. I chose Western-style breakfast, but the bone-in sausage was dry and small steamed vegetables were served alongside. The bouillabaisse used peeled shrimp instead of whole shrimp, which was disappointing. Perhaps you could use shells from last night's Ise shrimp? This may sound harsh because I truly love this accommodation; please forgive my slightly strict feedback!

    It was a great accommodation after a long time.

    A blend of modern and traditional Japanese style. The spirit of hospitality was evident among all the staff, and attention to detail, including amenities, was impressive. Both dinner and breakfast were exceptionally delicious, leaving the entire family satisfied—a rare experience for us. We are truly grateful to the head chef. Although Shimoda is a bit far from Tokyo, this accommodation was well worth the trip and made us want to visit again.

    The open-air bath in the Room is excellent.

    Stayed here after a long time. There were some improvements, like the free coffee service. The public bath was nice, but the open-air bath in the room had a perfect temperature, and I enjoyed it multiple times at my leisure. The quality of the meals was excellent and satisfying. Having local sake from Shizuoka was a great touch. Looking forward to the next visit!

    A relaxing accommodation to ease your mind

    From the warm welcome to the farewell, I felt the heartfelt hospitality of the staff and was able to relax for the first time in a while. The thoughtful touches throughout made me feel that they were carefully planned and executed by the staff. It has become a Hotel I would definitely like to stay at again.

    Rooms and facilities, including the large public bath, are clean and well-maintained.

    This was my second visit, but the staff's service was more attentive and better during my previous stay. The dinner menu was also tastier last time. For breakfast, I chose the Western set meal this time and was pleasantly surprised by the variety of bread available. The potage soup was exceptionally delicious, and I would like to choose the Western set meal again next time. When asked whether to choose a Japanese or Western breakfast by the staff, their response of "it depends on your preference" is understandable; however, a detailed explanation of each option would have been appreciated. Personally, I recommend the Western set meal. The Facility is well-maintained and clean, providing a satisfying experience. I look forward to visiting again if given another opportunity.

    Shooting Star

    This was our first time staying, and we chose a room with an open-air bath and garden. The hot spring water was free-flowing, and there was a faucet for the source water, allowing us to adjust the temperature ourselves. Our family, who loves hotter temperatures, was very satisfied. The meals were delicious. Initially, we thought the portions might be smaller compared to other accommodations we usually visit based on the menu, but it turned out to be just the right amount and variety for us to enjoy fully. The room, including its open-air bath, shower room, garden with deck area, as well as the entire facility were impeccably clean and well-maintained—it’s a very beautiful accommodation. The large public bath and its open-air section were also spotless; even automated cleaning robots kept the floors pristine for a pleasant experience. All staff members were incredibly kind and attentive, making our stay very comfortable. We participated in the stargazing event where we even saw shooting stars—it was so much fun! Looking forward to seeing seasonal starry skies again during our next reservation—we can’t wait!

    I felt refreshed.

    This was my first trip to Izu in a while, and I returned home very satisfied. This was my second stay here, and as always, the facility is impeccably clean, the food is delicious, and I was able to relax completely. Highly recommended—please give it a try!

    Great value for money

    The hotel staff was kind. The Onsen was clean, including the washing area, and there was a ReFa hair dryer, making it very comfortable. It would be great if the quality of the meals improved a bit. The chimaki seemed to have yuba in it but I couldn't find any, and the glutinous rice was cold. The sashimi boat platter felt overly large for its portion size. The lobster was also dry. The tennis court was free, spacious, and enjoyable. It was disappointing that there wasn't any mandarin orange juice in the room's refrigerator as I had been looking forward to it after watching a room tour video on YouTube beforehand. I wish milk and coffee milk after bathing could be available all day without time restrictions since I couldn't drink them because I went late at night. There were various types of pillows to try out, which made it fun. It would be nice if more items were added to the breakfast buffet lineup; while delicious, it's unfortunate that they used paper plates for serving dishes. I hope they increase the variety of welcome drinks and add options like beer or traditional sweets as well!

    Long time no see!

    Stayed at the accommodation for the first time in 5 years. The staff's service, meals, room, and bath—everything was excellent. I wanted to come earlier, but it was hard to find the right timing... Next time in 3 years? I'll visit for our 10th wedding anniversary. Definitely.

    It was excellent.

    Thank you for the wonderful stay. Everything was truly excellent. Both dinner and breakfast were incredibly satisfying. The staff's guidance to the Room was so helpful that even someone like me, who often gets lost, could find my way back without any trouble. I really appreciated it. Walking in the garden was refreshing. The blue sky, white clouds, green trees, and colorful flowers were vibrant and soothing. Unfortunately, due to the high temperature, I couldn't see the Asagimadara butterflies. This gives me more reason to look forward to visiting again next year when they appear. I chose a Room with a massage chair, so I could fully enjoy a relaxing massage. The large public bath, the open-air bath, and the scent of cypress were all delightful. When I went late at night, there was no one else, and the moon (the day before the full moon) appeared through the clouds—it was perfect. I thought it would be nice if the air conditioning near the entrance of the large public bath could be set a bit cooler. It might just be me, but I felt a bit warm. I will recommend this place to my friends. I’d love to stay here with them. I look forward to visiting again next year when the Asagimadara butterflies return. Thank you very much.

    Everything about this accommodation is wonderful.

    This was my first stay. From the warm welcome, check-in process, to the guidance to the room and facility, all the staff were very pleasant. The onsen was amazing, and although the building had an old charm, it was well-maintained and clean. The meals were also very satisfying and filling, incorporating seasonal ingredients, and everything was delicious. I believe this is an accommodation I would love to visit again. I will definitely return. Thank you very much.

    We stayed for one ni...

    We stayed for one night to celebrate a birthday. The Shuttle Service driver and the staff who assisted us were very kind and welcoming. The guest room was very clean, comfortable, and we had a pleasant stay. If we have another opportunity, we would love to stay again. Thank you very much!

    The dinner menu is...

    As a long-time fan who has been returning for years, I was disappointed to see that the simmered golden eye snapper, which used to be served whole per Room, has been replaced with fillets since the COVID-19 pandemic and has not returned. Perhaps it’s because I always choose a cheaper Plan, but this time, the dinner menu felt the most lacking compared to previous visits. However, the public bath, service, and hospitality remain excellent, so I look forward to my next stay.

    I stayed here again after six months. I have been visiting about twice a year for the past five years. The staff always welcomes me warmly, and I look forward to the delicious and carefully prepared meals every time. I am planning to visit again around March next year.

    Highly Satisfying Accommodation

    The accommodation was truly satisfying in every aspect, including facilities, service, and meals. The cleanliness of the rooms and public spaces, as well as the sincere hospitality provided by the senior male staff member, showcased the high standards upheld by all staff members throughout the facility. It was impressive to see this level of service being offered at a reasonable price without relying on foreign staff. Although it is located in a quiet area with no major tourist attractions or bustling surroundings nearby, I was able to enjoy a relaxing and stress-free stay within the accommodation itself. The meals were not overly extravagant but featured local ingredients prepared with just the right seasoning, adding to the charm of traveling. For those seeking luxury dining experiences, I would recommend trying their premium seasonal course called "Shunsai," which I have yet to experience myself but seems promising. Both Japanese and Western-style breakfasts were thoughtfully prepared, offering an extraordinary culinary experience even in the morning hours. Lastly, I had a one-hour Chinese acupressure session that left me thoroughly impressed despite my initial skepticism about its effectiveness due to its focus solely on pressure points without any kneading or massaging techniques. By the end of it, I felt remarkable results and jokingly dubbed S-san (the therapist) as a master practitioner akin to something out of fiction! Thank you for your hospitality!

    September Long Weekend

    From the moment of arrival, the guidance to the room was smooth and pleasant, with no waiting time before entering. The garden open-air bath room was clean, featuring a spacious hinoki bath that comfortably accommodates two people at once. The onsen water was sourced directly from the spring, offering excellent clarity and health benefits. Both dinner and breakfast consisted of fresh and delicious dishes. This has become an accommodation we would definitely like to revisit!

    A warm and welcoming accommodation

    I have visited my favorite accommodation in Shimoda several times, but this time I chose this place for the first time to celebrate my husband's birthday. The deciding factor was the pH 9.4 beauty-enhancing hot spring... Personally, I prefer thick and smooth spring water, so I was a bit surprised by its light texture... but after bathing, my skin felt soft and moisturized. The staff were all friendly and welcoming with smiles. The meals were delicious as well. Dinner was served warm and fresh, which left a great impression on me. Breakfast was buffet-style, which I really appreciated since I can't eat a full Japanese set meal in the morning; being able to pick small portions of what I like is wonderful. This is quite rare and earns high points from me! In the large public bath area, free milk and coffee milk are available—an amazing touch! The milk itself is rich and very tasty too. The room was spacious and clean with thoughtful amenities like both loungewear and pajamas provided for guests' comfort. There were about four bath towels available in the room as well, so there’s no need to bring them to the public bath—a fantastic convenience! Overall, it was an exceptional accommodation experience!

    It was an accommodation that left questions.

    Stayed in July and loved the staff's hospitality, the hot springs, and the meals. I wanted to revisit soon and found a great Last Summer Plan, so I quickly booked the same upgraded dinner plan "Shunsai" as in July. This time, it was a two-night weekday stay. The stay started with courteous parking staff assistance, followed by relaxing in the hot springs and looking forward to the anticipated meals. However, upon checking the menu, I noticed something odd—it seemed like this was actually from the normal plan "Shikisai," even though it was labeled as "Shunsai." Although dining areas were partitioned for privacy, I could see dishes being served to neighboring tables and overheard explanations of their meals. These dishes appeared identical to what we had enjoyed during our July visit. It was clear that there wasn’t any change in ingredients either. Even desserts were noticeably different this time—quite disappointing. The next day, still puzzled about this discrepancy, I asked at reception where a female staff member named Ms. ○○ confirmed that my reservation for an upgraded plan was correct but explained they had intentionally avoided repeating dishes from my previous visit in July. However, we would have preferred those same dishes again since that's what we were expecting! If most of it resembled a normal plan anyway, upgrading felt pointless. Should one avoid choosing discounted plans? I returned to my room saying “I look forward to tonight’s meal.” Whether due to my comment or not remains unclear; however on Day 2 dinner met expectations fully—making me question even more about what happened on Day 1! It left me wondering if staying during similar seasons or opting for special deals might not be ideal after all... Still love this accommodation overall though!

    Summer Vacation for Elderly Couples

    We went on a rescheduled trip after the original one was canceled due to the Kamchatka earthquake tsunami. The Room (Kitayugano) was excellent, the open-air bath was amazing, and the staff were kind and friendly. We enjoyed returning to our childhood with festival games and also had fun watching fireworks. Thank you very much!

    The open-air bath this time was made of cypress, offering a wonderful fragrance and an abundance of Onsen water. The garden was soothing with dragonflies visiting, and the greenery was beautiful with fruit-bearing trees showcasing green fruits. We appreciated having our meals served in the Room at a relaxed pace. Everything was delicious, though we felt that a Japanese-style hot pot might have suited our age better than the Italian-style one provided. The upgraded refrigerator contents were helpful for hydration after warming up in the Onsen and sweating—it truly helped us replenish fluids. The Onsen warmed us to the core, and we would love to visit again during another season. Thank you very much for your hospitality!

    Enjoyed freely across three generations.

    Adults can relax in the Onsen and enjoy seafood delicacies such as simmered golden-eye snapper and fresh sashimi, while children have fun with the pool and summer festival shooting games, making the most of their stay at the Accommodation. The Facility is clean, and the staff's hospitality is excellent, ensuring satisfaction every time.

    The Perfect Summer Vacation

    We chose Shimoda Central Hotel, highly rated and recommended by our daughter who stayed there last year. Three generations of our family—my husband, daughter, and elementary school-aged granddaughter—enjoyed a wonderful stay. The pool includes a 25m section and a children's area with perfect water temperature and lifeguards on duty. Nearby are an open-air bath and a large public bath, with complimentary coffee milk and white milk offered in the adjacent rest area. The drinks were especially refreshing in the summer heat! Dinner featured generous portions of both fish and meat, beautifully presented with excellent flavors. Children received fireworks and coin gifts, followed by enjoying handheld fireworks while watching the hotel's festival at 9 PM featuring launched fireworks and Niagara-style displays. The hotel staff's thoughtful hospitality was evident throughout our stay. The spacious public bath, large room size, lounge play area for kids, free drink corner with ice pops—all these details made it clear why this accommodation is so well-loved. It became one of the best summer vacation memories for us!

    Stayed here a year ago and had a great experience, so this was my second visit. The lobby is spacious and relaxing with drink service available. The floor has a pleasant aroma of incense, creating a calming atmosphere. The room was already cooled with air conditioning for comfort. The bathroom is always clean, with towels prepared, making it enjoyable to use. The hairdryer seemed to be the latest model with strong power. However, one downside was the female staff during meals who spoke casually, which diminished the sense of luxury. Additionally, she spent time chatting at another table and wasn’t available when needed, which was disappointing.

    I had a wonderful experience during my previous stay with friends, so this time I returned with my mother. As always, the facility, Room, and bath were all spacious, clean, and comfortable. My mother was very pleased as well, which made me happy. The only regret was not being able to enjoy stargazing, so I’ll try again next time!
