    An Accommodation that feels like coming home

    Over the past few years, this Accommodation has become a place our family wants to visit at least once a year, and both kids and adults are always completely satisfied. This summer vacation we weren’t planning a trip to the Izu area, so we thought a summer stay might not be possible—but when we learned about the summer vacation discount offer, we knew we had to go and made a last-minute Reservation. With prices rising everywhere, we truly appreciate this thoughtful gesture from the Facility. As always, every staff member—from arrival to departure—shows wonderful hospitality that makes for a genuinely relaxing stay. The Facility is also very clean. The summer vacation pop-up stalls were unexpectedly enjoyed more by the adults than the kids; it was fun seeing everyone feel like children again. It was disappointing that we couldn’t play tennis due to construction on the tennis courts, but there were so many enjoyable activities that we barely had enough time. We also love the surrounding satoyama countryside nature, so next time we’d like to stay in spring.

    We stay here every s...

    We stay here every summer with our family. It’s been about six years, since our oldest child was around three. They remember our children and know our family’s food preferences, so we always have a wonderful time. Playing in the pool with the kids has become a yearly tradition, and it’s been great to see how they’ve grown each year. We’ll be back again next year—thank you in advance.

    Summer Vacation Repeat Stay

    This was our third stay. We first visited when my child was in elementary school, and now he’s in junior high. My son still remembered staying here and said he wanted to come back again. Both the facilities and the Room were spacious, spotless, and incredibly relaxing. The bath was also very clean and wonderful—even during intense thunder, the open-air bath time felt atmospheric. I’m usually sensitive and can hardly sleep well when traveling, but the bed was so comfortable that I slept soundly. The summer vacation activities to delight children are always done with full enthusiasm by everyone, and even now that my son is older, he seemed to really enjoy them. My husband also said the massage was excellent. From welcome to farewell, everyone treated us kindly and attentively, and we truly felt your high level of hospitality. The meals were served in small portions at a time, but in the end there was so much that we couldn’t finish everything—and we were very satisfied. The biggest surprise this time was how unbelievably delicious all of the welcome sweets were. At most Hotels or Ryokan they’re usually fairly standard and not memorable—I thought that was normal—but they were so delicious that our whole family looked at each other in amazement. We were genuinely moved. It made us feel that this Accommodation doesn’t cut corners on anything. Personally, I also noticed this time that the provided hair dryer is a ReFa—I had assumed only my own dryer at home would prevent damage—so I thought it was truly impressive. We will definitely be back! We’ve stayed at other nearby Hotels as well, but we think this is one of the most satisfying Accommodations in the area.

    The delicious meals and everyone’s warm hospitality were truly soothing. In particular, thank you to the person in charge of our dinner for your thoughtful care in so many ways. This is a wonderful Accommodation, with a spacious public bath and an open-air bath where the greenery of the trees and mountains feels almost within reach. The garden open-air bath was at just the right temperature, and perhaps thanks to thorough insect control even in summer, we weren’t bothered by insects at all. Although it was fully booked, maybe our timing was good—the public bath was almost private, and we enjoyed it to the fullest. After returning home, my husband and I are quietly aiming to try every Room with a garden open-air bath. We would love to visit again, and we appreciate your continued kindness when we do. Thank you very much for taking such good care of us.

    Revisit Your Favorite Accommodation

    This was my first return visit in two years, and I was truly impressed by how the in-house facilities and cuisine have been updated, always with a guest-first mindset. One thing I noticed was that the Onsen temperature felt a bit higher than before—almost too hot. I would be happy if either the indoor bath or the open-air bath could be kept slightly cooler.

    Abalone Dinner

    I think this is a wonderful Hotel. They served abalone sashimi, but because I have dental issues, I couldn’t enjoy it, which was disappointing. If possible, I would appreciate options like grilled or steamed abalone that are a bit softer. Other than that, everything was excellent.

    Next time, during cherry blossom season.

    I chose this property for the first time because it had great Reviews on the site. The Shuttle Service driver, the woman who showed me to my Room, and the staff at the souvenir shop all provided wonderful hospitality. The meal portions were just right, with gentle seasoning, and everything was very delicious. My friends who traveled with me were also very satisfied. I would love to stay here again.

    I was able to relax and sleep soundly.

    We stayed in a Room with an open-air bath, and the garden open-air bath was deeply relaxing. The meals were also very delicious, and we could feel thoughtful attention to detail throughout the Accommodation. A trip’s satisfaction depends greatly on the Hotel or Ryokan you stay at, and thanks to you, it became a truly enjoyable trip.

    We were extremely satisfied—this is a Hotel we’d love to visit again.

    This time, three of us—friends from university—stayed here, and the Room was spacious, the meals were delicious, and all the Hotel staff were kind, so we had a very comfortable stay. We also unexpectedly got to join the “Stargazing Session,” which was a wonderful experience and a lot of fun. My friends were very happy as well, and we said we’d love to come back again.

    An Accommodation that feels like coming home

    It was my first visit in a year. This was my third stay, yet it feels as if we’ve been coming here for much longer—an Accommodation that brings a sense of nostalgia and warmth. The Facility is not new, and to be honest, it isn’t particularly luxurious or “special” in that sense, but it’s our favorite among all the places we’ve stayed. There are many reasons, but above all, I believe it’s because of the heartfelt hospitality from the staff. (Last time, we were very disappointed with the send-off, but this time they gave us such a warm farewell that we almost felt sad to leave.) We haven’t stayed often enough to call ourselves regulars yet, but each time the same staff member has taken care of us, and their attentiveness always amazes me. Seeing their face when we arrive makes me feel relieved; talking with them lifts my spirits; and I feel even more healed than by the Onsen or the meals. I was also deeply moved that they remembered every conversation and interaction with my daughter. It’s a feeling you can’t experience at other Accommodations. I ended up talking mostly about the staff, but the Onsen is wonderful, the food is delicious, and the Room is clean—overall an Accommodation we’re truly satisfied with. I recommend it to everyone around me!! These aren’t really complaints, but I’d like to share two small points in hopes of improvement: - The quality of the complimentary drinks in the refrigerator felt lower than last time - The amenities could be a bit more substantial… Even so, it doesn’t change how much we want to come back. Thank you again for another wonderful stay!!

    Very satisfied.

    Last autumn, I had to cancel due to my father’s hospitalization. He has since passed away, and when I returned home for the 49th-day memorial service, I stayed here as an apology for the previous cancellation. It was only one night, but the Onsen was excellent and I was able to relax very much. Thank you very much. I will visit again.

    A relaxing place to unwind.

    My wife and I have stayed at various Hotels with Rooms that include an open-air bath. Among them, this is the place where we can relax the most, thanks in no small part to the thoughtful staff. The quality of the hot spring water and the temperature of the open-air bath in our Room are perfect for me, and each time we visit I enjoy it nearly ten times. There is just one disappointment: there is no sofa in the Room, so I can’t lie down. Of course I could lie on the bed, but I still find myself wishing there were a sofa—perhaps that’s asking too much. I’m already looking forward to staying again next time.

    The whole family was thrilled!!

    We stayed during spring break with 11 family members across four generations. (Ages 1.5 to 90s; used 4 Rooms) This was our third stay as a four-generation group. With a large public bath and an open-air bath in the Room, plus delicious food and wonderful service—this Accommodation is the one that fulfills everyone’s wishes. For us, it’s Central. The meals in particular are outstanding; even in the same season, they change the menu and tableware. You can really feel the head chef’s desire to delight guests. Everything was delicious. The portions were generous too, and we were completely satisfied. After dinner, we all held a table tennis tournament! Even while saying “We’re so full it hurts,” we had a great time. The grandkids even kept it up after breakfast too (lol). And the service… We always make a special request to be looked after by the same staff member each time (though it isn’t always possible). We truly appreciate their thoughtful care for my mother in her 90s, and their kind words to our children and grandchildren. We can relax and leave everything in their hands. At checkout it was raining, so they suggested an aquarium as something we could enjoy even in the rain, and they also gave us a small note (letter). We headed home with warm feelings. The building is clean and well maintained; housekeeping is thorough. All staff members are smiling. It’s easy to understand why this Accommodation has such high Review scores. There’s a shop on-site, as well as beautifully cared-for gardens—everyone from kids to adults feels at ease here. After returning home, our family all said: “We want to go back to Central again!” Thank you very much for taking such great care of us once again.

    It exceeded my expectations.

    The cherry blossoms around Shimoda were in full bloom. From the Room’s garden, we could see magnificent cherry trees on the nearby mountain. I wasn’t expecting much from the garden, but there were information boards explaining the trees, and I felt it was thoughtfully designed and well maintained. The service was also flawless. We had a very pleasant stay. I would like to visit again during cherry blossom season.

    Returning with my parents.

    We returned to celebrate my mother’s birthday. My mother, who has knee problems, loved the Room with an open-air bath, and this year we were able to visit at the perfect time, with the cherry blossoms in full bloom and visible from the open-air bath in our Room. “From next year on, I want to come here every year,” she said—and I plan to make that happen!

    If I may be selfish,

    I was able to relax very comfortably. I was also very satisfied with the service. If I may make one small request, it was disappointing that the breakfast and dinner dishes and soups were lukewarm—perhaps because they were served in the Room.

    It was a great Hotel for a relaxing holiday.

    The Room size and the private open-air bath were great. Stargazing at night was also excellent. I would like to see a wider variety of breakfast items and improved taste. The Room Wi-Fi disconnects frequently, so I would like the internet connection to be improved.

    The astronomy sommelier’s commentary is outstanding.

    Shimoda Central Hotel is always fun, with pleasant surprises every time. On our last visit, we got to try sweet potato digging. This time, by chance, a total lunar eclipse viewing event was scheduled. Unfortunately, the weather didn’t cooperate, so they held an astronomy show on a screen in the main hall instead. The explanations from the certified astronomy sommelier and all the staff were very easy to understand. It was a complete coincidence that we happened to be there for this kind of event, but next time I’d like to check the schedule in advance and join again. Of course, I was completely satisfied with everything—the Room, the Onsen, the meals, and the warm smiles of everyone working there. We’ll be back.

    I’d love to stay here again!!

    Thank you very much for your hospitality. The meals and the Room environment were excellent. The bath water, in particular, was outstanding. Everyone on the staff was extremely courteous, and thanks to their attentive service we had a very pleasant stay. Being able to fully immerse ourselves in such an extraordinary setting left us feeling refreshed both physically and mentally. If we have the opportunity, we would love to stay again.

    We had a relaxing stay.

    We stayed to celebrate my mother’s 100th birthday as well as my husband’s and my birthdays. When we arrived at the Hotel, I remembered that we had stayed here about 20 years ago, which felt very nostalgic. The property has been beautifully renovated since then; the Room was spacious, and there was a large open-air bath in the well-maintained garden where we could relax and soak at ease. Thank you also for providing a wheelchair for my mother, as she has difficulty walking. Since meals were served in the Room, we were able to spend our time quietly without having to go anywhere. Thank you as well for the complimentary celebratory wine during our meal. The food was delicious—sashimi, simmered golden eye snapper, and sticky rice—but the shabu-shabu felt a bit too heavy. I would have preferred a more elaborate meat dish. Breakfast was also enjoyable overall, but the dried golden eye snapper was tough and cold and not tasty at all; I would have preferred it simmered instead. The milk in the refrigerator was very delicious. Overall, we had a relaxing stay, and I’m glad because my mother enjoyed it too.

    Dinner was the top course, but nothing stood out and overall it felt average. Breakfast had a wide variety of items and was good. The Hotel had a down-to-earth atmosphere, so if you’re looking for a luxury feel, it might not be the right fit.

    The Accommodation I Return to Most Often

    This has become the Accommodation I return to most often. In the lounge, beer is 500 yen, and highballs have also been added for 300 yen. Happy hour runs until 18:00, so after arriving you can take a bath right away and then relax with very affordable drinks in the lounge. The drink bar is free, but the happy-hour beer deal is so good that I end up ordering the paid beer anyway. You can spend a leisurely time there until dinner. This time we had dinner served in the Room, and as always the food was delicious and very filling. It seemed the white rice had changed from Kinuhikari to another variety, but it was still delicious because it’s cooked perfectly as always. I love Kinuhikari, so I hope it comes back. On our way there we usually have eel for lunch in Izukyu-Shimoda or Kawazu, stay here, then stop by a roadside station on Amagi Pass on the way home the next day. It’s a simple trip like that, but we can truly unwind and are very satisfied. The staff are also wonderful and respond flexibly to various requests. One thing I overlooked (I should have checked in advance): this time we brought wine for an anniversary, and when I stopped by the front desk after returning from the lounge to ask if they had a wine opener, they said they didn’t—so if you plan to drink wine in your Room, you’ll need to bring your own opener or choose a screw-cap bottle.

    Great dining, excellent private open-air baths.

    I stayed in a room with an open-air bath and garden. The cypress open-air bath had a faint scent of cypress, which was very pleasant. The dinner served in the room included sashimi with spiny lobster and simmered golden eye snapper, both of which were delicious. The staff provided attentive service, and although it was just one night, I was able to relax and unwind.

    The dinner made with local ingredients was exquisite. The abalone was particularly delightful. The combination of citrus-based sauce and ingredients was outstanding. The Onsen, reminiscent of a forest bath, is also very appealing. Everything was clean and well-maintained, making for a comfortable stay.

    Year-End and New Year Travel

    With a limited number of rooms, it was not crowded, allowing for a relaxing and leisurely stay. The dinner featured many elaborate dishes that were visually delightful and delicious. For breakfast, we enjoyed traditional New Year’s dishes while listening to koto and taiko performances, which made the New Year experience truly special. The room was clean, spacious, and comfortable. Having indoor slippers would have been perfect. The Onsen was available anytime, warming us to the core, and the post-bath coffee milk was a nice touch. Thank you very much!

    A Perfect New Year's Stay

    We were never able to make a reservation for New Year's at the accommodation we always visit during Obon, but luckily, we experienced staying there on New Year's Eve for the first time this year. The atmosphere and services full of New Year spirit made it a delightful start to the year. It's no wonder reservations are hard to get. No matter when we stay, everything is always perfect, and our whole family—adults and children alike—loves Shimoda Central.

    Dinner

    A long-awaited family trip. Dinner time was either 17:45 or 19:00, and we chose 19:00, arriving at the dining area on time. Most guests seemed to have opted for the earlier slot, so the place was quite empty. It made us feel a bit apologetic for being late. Perhaps due to service arrangements, we were seated at a table near the staff entrance. Unfortunately, the sounds and voices from the back area were noticeable, leaving us with an impression of discomfort rather than focusing on enjoying the meal.
