The peace and quiet were the most relaxing part!!

This is an Accommodation I had wanted to stay at for a long time. A quiet location with the gentle murmur of a mountain stream, a calm interior wrapped in soft lighting, and the lush green view from the open-air bath in the guest room— it truly lived up to the phrase “a healing retreat for adults.” Relaxing time spent in the lounge, kaiseki cuisine carefully prepared with seasonal ingredients, and the cool summer breeze after a bath— every moment made it feel as though my mind was gently unwinding. All of the staff provided heartfelt service, and even the new team member assisting at dinner was very pleasant, making it an enjoyable time. I was able to fully savor Otozure’s uniquely tranquil world.

Words can’t fully capture how wonderful it is.

Everything was refined and thoughtfully curated beyond expectations, making this a truly wonderful Accommodation.\n The Room was spacious, with tasteful and practical furnishings, plus a relaxing sofa on the balcony. The in-room Onsen flowed so abundantly it felt almost wasteful; the water was soft and silky, wonderfully soothing—just being in the Room made me happy.\n The large public bath was very clean, and because there are only a few guest rooms, I could relax without running into other guests.\n The thin matcha served first in the tea room was delightful, and the bar—where you can enjoy complimentary drinks (including sparkling wine)—was also very comfortable. Hearing bell crickets chirping in the corridors added to how pleasant every space felt.\n All staff were courteous professionals whose service inspired both trust and warmth.\n I could also tell that every small detail had been carefully considered.\n Not only was everything impeccably clean, but I appreciated not having to write my name at check-in; the blackout curtains at night; the tasteful yukata; how comfortable the pajamas were; and not just the impressive lobby flowers but also the beautiful arrangements placed throughout—there is too much to list.\n Since we could use neighboring Otani Sanso as well, we bought all our souvenirs there. The riverside in the Onsen town was lovely for a walk, and if it hadn’t been extremely hot, I would have liked to stroll longer.\n I would love to visit again.

    Everything met my expectations.

Thank you very much for a wonderful stay. We were satisfied with everything—the service, the Room, the bath, and the meals. The meals were so delicious that my mother, who usually has no appetite at all, finished everything. We truly hope to visit again. Thank you very much.

    We had a relaxing stay!

This was the Accommodation I had wanted to stay at on my first trip to Yamaguchi Prefecture. The Accommodation was very clean and quiet, and I was able to relax in a calm atmosphere. The Room was spacious, and the view of the reflecting pool from the terrace was beautiful. The open-air bath in the Room had free-flowing natural hot spring water, which felt wonderful. At the bar lounge, I enjoyed complimentary drinks while chatting with the staff and had a great time. I highly recommend this Accommodation for anyone looking to spend a relaxing stay for a special anniversary or simply to unwind and forget about everyday life.

A place you’ll want to make your go-to accommodation.

I made a Reservation two years ago but had to Cancel the Reservation at short notice. At last, I was able to visit this time. An even more wonderful Accommodation than I imagined. The Room was calm and relaxing, the Onsen was soothing, and the teppanyaki meal was excellent—great ingredients, and I also enjoyed chatting with the chef. And with smoking restrictions being so strict these days, we really appreciated that smoking is allowed only on the balcony; my husband, a smoker, was especially happy. I’d love to make this our regular Accommodation. It’s an Accommodation that makes you want to return again—Otozure.

My impression of Yamaguchi has changed.

I only knew Yamaguchi for Akiyoshidai and Motonosumi Shrine, which CNN once recommended as a must-visit spot. I asked an AI for an Accommodation recommendation and was introduced to Otozure. The dishes made with Yamaguchi’s abundant ingredients—squid, octopus, shrimp, abalone, pufferfish, Nagato Hagi beef, and more—were even more delicious than expected. When I was talking with a friend from Fukuoka about how amazing Yamaguchi is, they told me, “Everyone in Fukuoka goes to Otani Sanso.” This is an Accommodation I’d love to visit again.

The room ambiance, meals, staff, and the quality of the hot spring water were all outstanding.

I used to stay here often, and even after a long time away, I was impressed that the quality hasn’t declined at all. (Some long-established Ryokan can feel worn in many areas and leave you disappointed.) In particular, I loved that breakfast can now be chosen from three locations—it made mornings something to look forward to.

I’ve always wanted to visit Otani Sanso at least once.

More than 20 years have passed since my wife’s aunt recommended Otani Sanso to us. Otani Sanso is also known as the place where then-Prime Minister Abe hosted President Putin, and I had long wanted to visit at least once. This time, we had a memorial service in Kure, and from there we drove our private car to Nagato Yumoto. We live in Kobe, so I had assumed the Shinkansen would be the most convenient way to get here, but we ended up coming by car. Otozure is in a wonderfully quiet setting, surrounded by nature with the feel of a secluded retreat. Inside the Hotel, guests move around barefoot—an arrangement that was incredibly relaxing. We were told we could also use the Facility next door at Otani Sanso, so we enjoyed the Onsen in their large public bath as well. That said, Otozure also has its own large public bath—and our Room even came with a private open-air bath with free-flowing natural spring water—so it truly was an Onsen-filled stay in every sense of the word. Taking a morning bath while listening to birdsong in the distance was pure luxury. The carefully prepared Japanese cuisine and sake were also deeply satisfying, allowing us to fully enjoy an extraordinary escape from everyday life. On our way here there were several roadside stations and JA markets where we could see a wide variety of local Yamaguchi products, which really gave us a sense of this region’s character. My wife loves uiro and bought several kinds from different makers. And since Senzaki is nearby, there was an excellent selection of famous kamaboko as well. We would have liked to do more sightseeing around the area, but considering our travel plans for the next day, we ended up spending our time entirely enjoying Hotel life—which was slightly disappointing. The Kaneko Misuzu Memorial Museum is close by and I wanted to visit it too, but decided to leave it for next time. This trip was prompted by a memorial service, but this season also coincides with our wedding anniversary and my birthday each year, so we planned it as a commemorative getaway as well. Receiving a celebratory gift from the Hotel was an unexpected delight. All in all, our Onsen journey through Kure and Yamaguchi came to a memorable close—leaving us with lingering comfort long after departure.

Everything was excellent, from the arrival instructions to check-out!

We stayed here on the final day of a 3-night, 4-day long-distance road trip from Fukuoka through Hiroshima, Shimane, and Yamaguchi. From the moment we arrived, the staff’s thoughtful, guest-focused hospitality made us feel warmly welcomed and truly comfortable. The Room we were shown was very spacious, and everything—from the bed to each amenity—was high quality, leaving us extremely satisfied. That day, the view from the balcony was breathtaking, and soaking in the open-air bath while looking at cherry blossoms in full bloom soothed our fatigue from the long drive. This is a place we would definitely love to stay at again—Bettei Otozure!

    A Top-Tier Hot Spring Accommodation

I have visited many hot spring Accommodations across Japan, but this was the one I had been saving as a special treat. From the initial call to Check Reservation to the Shuttle Service, welcome service in the tea room, front desk, guidance to the Room, meals, and farewell, the staff were consistently pleasant and refined in every moment. Their attentiveness truly embodied Japanese hospitality. The Facility makes excellent use of the scenery and has a dignified atmosphere that naturally puts you at ease. Most noteworthy is how delicious the cuisine was—both dinner and breakfast were thoughtfully crafted and beautifully presented. The next day we stayed at Otani Sanso and enjoyed stargazing that brought out our childlike wonder. We made wonderful memories on this trip, and both my wife and I are delighted. If we have the chance, we would love to stay again.

Delicious! Fun! A luxurious private villa!

From the moment we arrived and were guided in, crossing the corridor over the water feature filled me with excitement! The design of the entrance ceiling, and Ichimine-an approached through a hallway where you can feel the outdoor air. The objects placed here and there, paintings, furnishings, and even items in the shop (art pieces) were a feast for the eyes. The Room itself also felt luxurious (stylish leather knobs, spiral lampshades, and more). I fully enjoyed my favorite Onsen: the Room’s free-flowing open-air bath, Otozure’s stone sauna bedrock bath, and Otani Sanso’s large public bath and sauna... The water feels light on the skin at first, but afterward it leaves you smooth and moisturized. The meals were beautiful—both the tableware and each dish. Gentle flavors; grilled dishes, simmered dishes—everything was delicious! Breakfast was perfect as well, though at my age I’d be even happier if there were milk or yogurt in the morning. The thoughtfulness of the staff who served us at dinner was wonderful; and for me—someone who gets cold easily—a lap blanket had already been placed at my seat for breakfast the next morning. Thank you very much. As a bonus, we also got to listen to Otani Sanso’s evening concert—it was unexpectedly enjoyable. A front desk staff member also told us about an Onsen town event called “Utaakari,” so we enjoyed an evening stroll with sparkling lights and music. Thank you as well for providing lanterns, footwear, and even warm outerwear. At this “luxurious annex,” enjoying Onsen baths along with high-quality meals and warm hospitality from your staff made me truly happy. I would love to visit again in a different season.

Your First Visit to Yamaguchi Prefecture

Our first trip to Yamaguchi Prefecture, and our family of five adults truly enjoyed it. First, the baths—my skin felt so smooth and it was wonderful. The large public bath also had a hot stone sauna, which was fantastic. There was an open-air bath in our Room as well, so even my daughters—who usually only bathe once—ended up going in three times. The kaiseki dinner was carefully prepared course by course and delicious. The rice was perfectly glossy, too. To the attendant who took care of us: you were heading to the elevator in a hurry, yet you still came quickly to see us off—thank you very much. Breakfast was a buffet at Otani Sanso. Just as we’d heard, it felt like a bakery and it was hard to choose (in a good way). The salads, side dishes, and strawberries were all delicious. The view from the window and the atmosphere—this was a wonderful Accommodation.

    I consider this one ...

I consider this one of the finest accommodations in Japan. The facilities—spacious public areas, thoughtfully arranged trees around the water feature, and high ceilings—are all in harmony without feeling empty. The cuisine makes wide use of local ingredients; while the dashi is not kombu-based, the overall style is Kyoto-inspired. Hagi ware tableware was also used, and it would have been even better with a bit more Hagi ware. The hot spring water feels gentle, as if it clings softly to the skin. The staff were also properly attentive and professional. One of my favorite Ryokan is Gajoen in Kagoshima, and this place feels like its opposite in many ways. Two minor points I noticed: Stains on the large bath’s glass panels. This may have been by chance, but there were times when no one was present at either the outer or inner entrance, which made me wonder about security.

I was able to relax at a very leisurely pace.

My husband and I always look forward to staying here. It’s very quiet, and we can truly relax. This time as well, we recharged with delicious meals and a wonderful soak in the hot springs. We will definitely visit again.

    It was the best accommodation.

We stayed here for my partner’s birthday trip. They efficiently arranged everything in advance, including a birthday dessert and a late check-out. All staff were wonderful from arrival to departure, making us feel very welcome. The food was delicately seasoned and refined, and everything was delicious. The tea room and the furnishings throughout the property were all tasteful, making our stay truly satisfying. We would love to stay again.

    Everything is excellent.

We have stayed at accommodations in the same price range almost every month during our outings as a couple, but this accommodation was truly exceptional. This time, we wanted a quiet stay, so we chose the separate building "Onshin," which does not allow children, but Otani Sanso also seemed very appealing. The room we stayed in showed thoughtful attention to detail in its furniture, decor, and amenities. The staff provided excellent hospitality, making our stay extremely comfortable. The cuisine was far more delicious than dishes from renowned restaurants in Kyoto that are said to be hard to book. If it were closer, we would visit every month; it has now been added to our list of accommodations to revisit. Highly recommended!

    Luxury Accommodation

This was my first time staying at this accommodation. The room, onsen, and meals were even more wonderful than I had imagined, allowing me to have a comfortable stay. I was looking forward to exploring the area around the accommodation, but it was quite deserted, which was a bit disappointing.

    Thank you.

I was amazed by the spaciousness and elegance of the upgraded room, which exceeded all expectations. Additionally, the accommodation was outstanding in every aspect—staff, onsen, and meals were flawless. To enjoy a relaxing stay without doing anything, I am already planning a multiple night stay next year. I look forward to staying with you again at that time. Thank you in advance!

    Something's missing.

I have used both Otanisanso and Onsen several times, but since Onsen is particularly expensive, the facility exudes a sense of luxury, making the stay feel special. However, the view from the room I stayed in at Onsen this time was disappointing as it only overlooked a roof. Choosing your room carefully is important. Additionally, despite requesting an electric vehicle charge in advance by phone and reiterating it on the day of check-in, it was not done. I was anxious until I got home. While it's important not to expect too much hospitality, I would have appreciated if at least my request had been fulfilled.

The hot spring quality was excellent.

The spacious area was gorgeous. The meals were beautifully presented and delicious, especially the dessert by the head chef, which was exceptional. The Onsen felt gentle and seemed beneficial for the skin. Although the amenities were slightly lacking, I would definitely like to return if time allows.

This was my first stay, and I was very satisfied. The staff were wonderful—maintaining a comfortable distance while still being attentive and thoughtful. I also found the interior design and seasonal touches throughout the Accommodation refreshing. The Room type we stayed in was a maisonette. It was spacious overall, and although we were traveling as a pair, the loft unexpectedly gave us separate space and time to ourselves, allowing us to relax at our own pace. I would love to visit again in another season. I look forward to staying with you next time as well.

    A Wonderful Accommodation for Adults

Visited from Kanagawa for my first trip to Yamaguchi Prefecture. Initially, I mistakenly entered Otani Sanso, but the staff there kindly assisted me and guided me through the inner passage to Otozure. (The staff member was a well-dressed and clean-cut gentleman.) Otozure had a modern and resort-like atmosphere that felt as if I had traveled abroad. It was incredibly clean and quiet, with not a single piece of trash in sight. Each dish served was beautifully presented, showcasing the meticulous craftsmanship of the chefs even in how they cut the vegetables. The flavors were exquisite—elegantly seasoned and absolutely perfect. I was truly impressed. Although it’s quite far from Kanto and not easy to visit frequently, this is an accommodation I would love to return to and highly recommend! Additionally, there were enjoyable musical events held at neighboring Otani Sanso!

We stayed as a family of three—my mother, who is currently in recovery, my father, and myself. The Room was comfortable for a relaxing stay, the meals were delicious, and we had a wonderful time. While not overly luxurious, the cleanliness and elegance throughout the property were impeccable. The balance of attentiveness from the staff was also very pleasant. My mother mentioned that she felt so relaxed that she almost forgot about her recovery. Every corner of the facility was picturesque enough to be turned into a postcard. We hope to visit again with my parents during the autumn foliage season next time. Thank you very much!

    Delicious Stays

It was a high-quality and elegant property with delicious cuisine. The large public bath at Otani Sanso is more impressive, but it can be accessed through the corridor within the property. The meals, both breakfast and dinner, were very delicious. If I may say, although the individual abilities of the staff at the dining area are high, there were moments when their coordination was not in sync. Due to the building structure, the voices and sounds from other tables echoed, which was somewhat bothersome. The ambiance is nice, so I would like to visit again in a different season. Thank you for your hospitality.

    Reconsider the merits

This was our third stay in two years. Last time, we stayed next door and remembered the large public bath, so we went again this time. However, due to the large number of guest rooms, it was always lively with families, and we realized once again that we prefer the quieter and more relaxing atmosphere of Onshin, even if it's a bit more compact. The meals are beautifully presented, and we really enjoy the taste. We heard that the head chef is from Kyoto, and the rolled omelet in the morning is excellent. Also, we appreciate that the breakfast portions are just right and delicious. One request would be to have samue (traditional Japanese work clothes) available.

    Spend a very luxurious time

I use this place when I want to refresh both my mind and body. The Room is great, the Onsen is great, and the food is great, making it a very luxurious time for me. From check-in to entering the Room, I hardly encounter other guests, and since there is an open-air bath in the Room, it feels like a private space. You can choose between the open-air bath in the Room, the Onsen at Otani Sanso, and the Onsen at Otozure, depending on your mood at the time. I had Japanese cuisine, and the dishes made with local ingredients were visually beautiful and elegantly flavored, making me want to have them again. I enjoyed a tasting of three types of sake, which made for a wonderful time filled with lively conversation and smiles. I will use this place again.

    The hospitality is excellent.

Just stepping inside, I was thrilled by the wonderful space. The cleaning was thorough, and it was so clean that it felt good to walk barefoot on the tatami. Above all, the staff's courteous service and smiles were excellent. There was a minor issue, but they responded immediately, so I didn't feel uncomfortable at all. In the bathroom, they frequently checked the towels and cleaned, showing their attentiveness. The food was also amazing, with each dish prepared with care, conveying a sense of hospitality. It is a wonderful property where you can feel that all the staff genuinely want you to have a good day here, making me want to visit repeatedly. I can confidently recommend this property as a place worth staying!
