    Late Summer at Lake Suwa

The location was excellent, and we were soothed by the Room with a view of Lake Suwa and the semi-open-air Onsen bath. The Onsen water, which the Accommodation is proud of, had a silky texture and left our skin smooth. We were also very happy with your thoughtful hospitality. The lounge available from 3:00 p.m. had a calm atmosphere, and we enjoyed drinks and snacks. It was also great that there was a good selection of non-alcoholic options. At dinner, we were truly impressed by the attentive care of the staff in charge. It made the delicious dishes even more enjoyable. For breakfast, we were satisfied and full, especially with the vegetable-rich miso soup served in a pot (it was a little salty). We also enjoyed reading the Accommodation’s blog as a reference when choosing our Room. Thank you very much for taking such good care of us.

    First time in Kamisuwa.

As the Reviews said, this Hotel feels its age, but it was very clean, and the large windows overlooking Lake Suwa were spotless. However, I did notice an old-building smell in the air. The staff who welcomed us and guided us were very pleasant and courteous. Our Room had a 2024-renovated private Onsen, and we had a comfortable stay. It was supposed to be free-flowing from the source, but only a small amount came out at a time, which was a bit disappointing. Also, having to bring towels from the Room to the public bath felt inconvenient. Since I went in multiple times, I also felt there weren’t enough towels. There were special amenities for women, but some guests may not need them or may not be able to use them due to allergies. We booked a Plan that included lounge access, and we could relax quietly with snacks, alcohol, soft drinks, coffee, etc., as it wasn’t crowded. However, the lounge lighting was quite dim; as someone over 60, I found it hard to see clearly and thought others might feel the same. The food was also delicious. Thank you to all the staff.

    Wonderful hospitality

Two of us—female motorcyclists—stayed with you, and we truly appreciated everything. When we arrived, several staff members came out to greet us. It was pouring rain that day, and you guided us to the parking area, helped us out, and even brought towels for us—it was beyond impressive. Dinner was wonderful as well; we enjoyed local ingredients and delicious meat. The Onsen water was silky and very pleasant. Everything was excellent. Thank you very much.

    A Ryokan for Adults

From the moment I arrived at the Ryokan, the Hotel staff warmly welcomed me, and check-in was smooth. Everyone on the Hotel team was highly professional, and the property was spotless, making my stay very comfortable. The food had delicate flavors, and the portions were just right—neither too much nor too little. Both dinner and breakfast felt perfectly balanced. The baths are cleaned once between check-in and the next morning, with a men’s/women’s switch as well. I also appreciated being able to use them multiple times even late at night or early in the morning.

    We stayed as two cou...

We stayed as two couples—my spouse and I, and my sister and her spouse. Meals were served in a private dining Room, so we could enjoy relaxed conversation with them for the first time in a while, which was very satisfying. The food was also delicious. It was a weekday after the Obon holidays, but fireworks were set off for about 10 minutes in the park right in front of the Hotel, and they were truly beautiful. The open-air bath in our Room was extremely relaxing, and we used it many times. I gave 3 stars for the Facility because it rained during the night, and the rain hitting the plastic bamboo screen around the open-air bath was loud, making it hard to sleep. Overall, we were satisfied.

    I stayed for one nig...

I stayed for one night on August 19. Inside the Hotel, there is a footbath area where you can relax while looking out at a tranquil garden, a space for reading, and a cafe. In the bath area, there were signs considerate of women who may feel self-conscious about their chest—perhaps as part of the Pink Ribbon campaign. I would like to share this with friends. The karin juice after the bath was refreshing and delicious. The Suwako Summer Night fireworks were launched right in front of the Hotel, so I was able to watch them while still wearing my yukata. It was also just a short walk to the lakeside. Since they are held every day for about a month during the event period, it wasn’t overly crowded and I could enjoy them comfortably. They were only about 10 minutes long, but the finale was wonderful and genuinely moving. The Room had an elegant atmosphere that felt fitting for such a long-established place, and the small items and amenities were charming as well—overall very comfortable. Lastly, I would like to thank those who prepared my meal with such care so that even someone like me—who eats small portions and is extremely picky—could enjoy it, as well as the serving staff. Thank you very much.

We stayed in a Room ...

We stayed in a Room with a private open-air bath, and the open-air bath while looking out over Lake Suwa was amazing. The Onsen water was pleasantly soft, and we went in many times. The meals were excellent. The extra steak was delicious, but it would have been more than enough even without it. Breakfast was also very satisfying. We’d love to visit again.

    Accommodation

The staff’s attentiveness and care throughout the property were excellent. The meals were also outstanding, and we enjoyed them very much. The baths were great, and I used the in-Room bath dozens of times. I was able to relax at ease and unwind from everyday fatigue and stress. It was such an enjoyable stay that I would love to visit again. Thank you very much.

I felt relaxed with the view of Lake Suwa.

I walked from Kamisuwa Station since I could see the Accommodation from the train, but although it would have been quicker to go right after exiting the station, Google Maps guided me left and I ended up taking a slight detour. As a result, I arrived at 5:30 pm and was disappointed that I couldn’t enjoy the lounge drink service, which is only available until 6:00 pm. The Accommodation is a fairly large Ryokan, but it is kept very clean throughout. My Room was a bright, clean corner Room on the 6th floor with a great view, and I was able to relax. The website description said the open-air bath in the Room had brown water as well, but it was actually clear, which was a bit disappointing. The large public bath had brown water that felt smooth and slightly thick, and the free-flowing hot spring water in the open-air bath was at a temperature you could soak in for as long as you like. It felt nice that all staff members greeted us warmly, and in particular I thought the dining staff’s friendly service with smiles was excellent. The meal portions were just right and everything tasted great. Personally, I don’t think sashimi is necessary for breakfast. This is one of my recommended Accommodations in Kamisuwa Onsen.

    The bath was great!

I’ve stayed at various Hotels and Ryokan in the nearby Kamisuwa Onsen area, and this one had the best bath by far. Even I, who like hot baths, was fully satisfied. I was able to relax. The Room was also clean, and I think it’s a wonderful Accommodation where you can feel the thoughtful hospitality. I would love to stay again.

    It was excellent.

I stayed one night solo in a Room with an open-air bath. The free-flowing Onsen water had a slight silky texture—truly what you’d hope for in an Onsen. I also appreciated being able to adjust the temperature by adding water. Having the open-air bath all to myself while looking out over Lake Suwa was incredible. The entire Accommodation felt refined and understated rather than flashy, with elegant interiors and a beautiful Japanese garden. The staff were all warm and kind, so I was able to relax and enjoy my stay. Since I could only stay one night this time, I’d love to come back. I loved the in-room bath so much that I didn’t make it to the large public bath, so next time I’d like to try that as well as the cypress open-air bath.

It was an Onsen I didn’t want to tell anyone about.

Thank you for taking care of us over the weekend. My spouse and I truly enjoyed our stay—it was an Onsen we almost want to keep secret. We stayed in a Western-style twin Room with a semi-open-air bath, and we were able to relax as if we were at home. We also had access to the lounge, so we enjoyed sparkling wine as well. The Onsen water quality felt great from the moment we stepped in. The meals paired well with sake and were excellent. We would love to visit again.

As an accommodation for cherry blossom viewing at the ruins of Takato Castle

We stayed here as our Accommodation for cherry-blossom viewing at the Takato Castle Ruins. It was my first visit to Lake Suwa in decades, and I was pleased to see how well maintained the lakeside area is. The Hotel’s proprietress and staff were very attentive, and we had a comfortable stay. The open-air bath in our Room had excellent water quality, the temperature could be adjusted, and the view of Lake Suwa was wonderful—very relaxing. The meals were delicious, though I would have liked a bit more Shinshu highland vegetables. If there were unsweetened sours made with fresh juice, it would have been perfect.

    A Historic Onsen Hotel

This was my first stay in Kamisuwa Onsen. I arrived early, checked in, left my luggage, and took a walk along the lakeside promenade by Lake Suwa. I returned to the Accommodation at 3:00 p.m. and was shown to my Room. It is a large, historic Accommodation with an inner courtyard that evokes a karesansui rock garden, yet everything inside was kept very clean. The spacious Japanese-style Room with an open-air bath on the 3rd floor of Shurokaku offered views of Lake Suwa through the privacy fence. The brown-colored large public bath and the larger open-air bath use both free-flowing and circulated water, while the smaller open-air bath is free-flowing; both were at a comfortable temperature for me and warmed me up well. When going to the public bath, you need to bring towels from your Room. At the entrance to the public bath, there was an attendant at certain times of day, and the cold quince water after bathing was delicious. The open-air bath in my Room was also free-flowing, but it was clear rather than brown-colored. I could relax in the tub while looking out over Lake Suwa. Dinner was excellent in both quality and quantity and felt like just the right amount for me; in particular, the beef shabu-shabu had thick slices and was very tasty. There was also a tasting set that let you compare sake from five Suwa breweries; I visited the brewery I liked most the next day and bought some sake. Although it is a large Accommodation, the staff’s hospitality was wonderful, and I had a very comfortable stay. I would love to visit again if I have another opportunity. Thank you very much.

I stayed at an accommodation with high satisfaction after a long time!

This accommodation, with a history dating back to the Meiji era, exudes a charming sense of nostalgia. While the building is old, it is impeccably cleaned and well-maintained, allowing for a comfortable stay. As someone who is very particular about cleanliness, I thoroughly checked areas like the corners of the room and water facilities for dust or dirt but found everything spotless and hygienic. The open-air bath was fantastic. I had a wonderful time relaxing in the bath with my daughter. The staff were incredibly attentive to my daughter, making her feel happy and excited throughout our stay. As for the meals, while they were generally delicious, I personally do not enjoy carp—a specialty of Lake Suwa—which was disappointing for me. For this reason alone, I would rate this accommodation four stars instead of five. With many international hotels and chain hotels entering the market recently, I sincerely hope that traditional Japanese accommodations like this one—offering heartfelt hospitality—will continue to thrive unchanged in years to come. Thank you very much for your hospitality!

    It was a great Onsen!

Since it was a weekday, the Onsen was not crowded, allowing us to relax and enjoy the wonderful hot spring water. Meals were served in our Room, so we could dine at our own pace. The horse sashimi and Shinshu beef shabu-shabu were particularly delicious. From our Room, we had a stunning view of Lake Suwa—a truly beautiful location. The staff were all kind and friendly, often greeting us warmly as we passed by with phrases like "Please take your time." Their hospitality made the stay even more enjoyable. We would love to visit again!

Relax and enjoy the Onsen and meals to your satisfaction.

I am satisfied after a 3-night stay. I enjoyed the Onsen, especially the open-air baths as usual. Dinner was different each of the three nights, and every meal was delightful. I will likely visit again next year.

Excellent Hotel - When in doubt in Suwa, choose "Hotel Saginoyu" without hesitation.

I stayed for one night on September 3rd. I chose this Hotel because of the private open-air bath with a view of Lake Suwa, and it was absolutely the right choice. The Hotel features stunningly beautiful and elegant interiors, and I was extremely satisfied with the exceptional service. I plan to stay here again next time.

    I had a relaxing stay.

I stayed at an accommodation near Lake Suwa for the first time. The fireworks over Lake Suwa were clearly visible from the room, which was wonderful. The onsen, including the open-air bath, had water quality that suited me well and was very enjoyable. The meals were served in appropriate portions and paired excellently with local sake, making them delicious. The staff provided excellent service, leaving me very satisfied.

    I was very disappointed.

I stayed at Suwa Lake Onsen for the first time at the end of my trip to Shinshu. The building was old, but as per its reputation, the room and open-air bath were clean, and the meals were very delicious and satisfying. However, the service by the staff in charge of our private dining room was extremely poor. There were long intervals between dishes; rice had dried out because it had been served too early, and dessert took as long as 7 minutes to arrive. During this time, they noisily stacked dishes on the table while clearing them away. Although the food itself was excellent, such poor service ruined its quality. Unless this issue is addressed, I would not consider staying at this hotel again.

The changing room is too cold.

The air conditioning throughout the facility felt too strong. The Onsen was sourced directly from the hot spring and had excellent water quality. However, it was too cold for natural drying after bathing, making it hard to relax. The meals were light and delicious, and even the kids' meal was thoughtfully prepared and enjoyable. The Room had both Western-style and Japanese-style toilets, which surprised us. However, having a Japanese-style toilet gave an outdated impression, so it might be better to consider updating this feature. The large windows provided a great view of Suwa Lake's fireworks, which delighted the children. There was a large bar counter by the window that seemed designed for enjoying fireworks while seated there; however, replacing it with a sofa might make it more comfortable for families to relax. Nonetheless, this location is perfect for viewing Suwa Lake's fireworks. Thank you very much for your hospitality!

Huh? It's different from the last image.

I used this accommodation once in 2021 and liked it, so this is my second stay... However, I noticed many things that made me go "huh?"... The service, hospitality, room (is it because the reserved room is different from last time?), amenities, etc. Last time was around the end of the COVID period, and now with more guests staying? I left feeling disappointed.

    Overall satisfactory.

The Room and service were excellent. The meals were quite delicious, and the service was great, but the main dish, sakura nabe, was overcooked and became tough, which was disappointing. If we had eaten it as soon as the meat started to change color, it would have been so much better... The horse sashimi and sushi were great, which made it a bit more disappointing. Overall, the bath temperature management was very comfortable.

It was a wonderful accommodation, but

I stayed with the horse sashimi plan this time. As expected of a long-established Ryokan, the facility and Onsen were impeccable, and since I reserved a bedroom, it was spacious enough with a sofa and rocking chair, making it very comfortable. Moreover, being in a corner room with views of Lake Suwa from the window made for an excellent scenery. However, the horse sashimi I had been looking forward to was lean meat (I prefer marbled meat), and the sakura hot pot's horse meat was tough, which honestly left me disappointed. The other dishes besides horse meat were not particularly impressive either; even the pickled Nozawana seemed slightly spoiled. My husband mentioned that if only the food had been delicious, it would have been A-rank accommodation. While everything else was truly satisfying, meals play such an important role in travel memories that this aspect alone was regrettable.

    Only dissatisfied with the service...

I booked this accommodation because I wanted a Japanese-style place for a welcome-back party for my partner. The room came with an onsen. When we were first shown to the room, there was a bug on the curtain, and when I shouted "A bug!", the trainee staff member did nothing. I ended up dealing with it myself, but there was no apology or thanks from her. Later, when an older male staff member came to set up the futon, he accidentally knocked over my can of chuhai while moving the table, spilling its contents all over the tatami floor. He just said something like "Oh dear... it still had some left in it," without showing any urgency and slowly added that he'd bring a towel. Again, I had to clean it up myself with a towel while he wandered around saying things like "Oh? Wasn't it spilled around here?" without apologizing or acknowledging my efforts. When I told him that I'd already cleaned it up, he just laughed and said "Thanks" before continuing to set up the futon and leaving. I was upset that they didn’t offer to compensate me for the spilled chuhai. The onsen itself was wonderful; however, considering how much this stay cost, I feel there are better accommodations out there at this price point. I won’t be staying here again.

    Highly Satisfied

We visited for the Suwa Lake Triathlon as my husband participated. The meals were delicious, and all the staff had wonderful smiles and provided excellent service. The view of Suwa Lake from the room with a private open-air bath was stunning. Two bath towels per person were prepared from the start, allowing us to fully enjoy various Onsen facilities such as the large public bath and private baths. We hope to visit again next year. Thank you very much!
