    The comfort of the rooms and the hospitality were excellent in many ways, but the meals were particularly outstanding and memorable. It has become one of the accommodations I would like to revisit. Thank you very much.

    It was a very nice accommodation.

    Both dinner and breakfast were exceptionally delicious, perhaps reflecting the establishment's origins as an eel restaurant. The tableware was also beautifully chosen, showcasing great taste. The private open-air bath in the guest room with a view of the garden was wonderful. It must be breathtakingly beautiful during cherry blossom season. I would definitely recommend this place to my friends and acquaintances.

    Tendoso, located in Tohoku.

    If we were to describe the atmosphere of Tendo-so, it might feel like suddenly wandering into the Kyoto residence of the Reizei family—a mysterious and enchanting experience. The decor throughout the accommodation reflects the essence of Japan's 24 seasonal divisions, blending traditional elements with modern artistic direction to create a comfortable and sophisticated space. In our room, "Sumire no Ma," details such as vermilion accents on the sliding doors subtly incorporated avant-garde touches, showcasing refined elegance. The staff provided service with a polished demeanor reminiscent of a city hotel, and dining was an exceptional experience starting with "Sakura-marinated Sprouts" as an appetizer. Each dish celebrated seasonal ingredients in a thoughtfully curated menu. Few ryokans achieve this level of excellence. While some may claim there are no outstanding accommodations in Tohoku, Yamagata stands out with several renowned ryokans—and among them, Tendo-so is undoubtedly one of the finest. In spring 2025, we had an extraordinary stay at this remarkable accommodation.

    A warm accommodation showcasing the refined taste of the young hostess

    While browsing my wife's magazine, I came across an article featuring Tendo-so with its cherry blossoms in full bloom. I called to book the Room "Unohana," but it was already fully booked. During the cherry blossom season, they serve a special sakura kaiseki meal, but perhaps due to the article's popularity, most dates were unavailable. Although it seemed early for cherry blossoms in Yamagata, I decided to stay in their next recommended Room "Momiji." Upon arrival at the entrance, three staff members warmly greeted us, showcasing their excellent service training. As expected, the cherry blossoms outside our room were still budding; only small blooms had just started sprouting from the branches. The facility had been renovated last October due to aging structures, and the large bath was filled with a refreshing hinoki aroma. The dressing area featured professional-grade Refa hair dryers and reflected touches of refined taste by the young proprietress throughout the property. The in-room dinner was delicious and made even more memorable by our kind attendant's hospitality. For breakfast, we enjoyed dishes served in a bamboo basket adorned with blooming cherry blossom branches—thoughtfully arranged for a delightful mini hanami experience indoors. I left wishing to return someday during peak bloom season and stay in Room "Unohana."

    I felt very relaxed ...

    I felt very relaxed this time as well. Even though the number of guests changed at the last minute, you kindly accommodated us. My son, who has been visiting since he was a baby, was delighted to stay after a long time. He had been unwell until just before our visit, but after soaking in the Onsen and enjoying delicious meals, he fully recovered. I appreciated that you remembered his yukata size from our previous stay. We will visit again!

    Unchanging Hospitality

    This time, the large public bath was renovated. I was delighted with the scent of new wood. The Onsen in the Room is luxurious and it's nice to be able to enter it multiple times without hesitation. All the dishes were delicious, although the portions were a bit too much for me. I also enjoyed the sake. Some staff members were inexperienced with service, but their sincerity came through and I didn't feel uncomfortable. I will visit again.

    I was very satisfied.

    Stayed for two days. Although there must have been other guests, the property was very quiet and I had a comfortable stay. I was impressed by the consideration shown in preparing the "crab" dish I had requested. The room was spacious, and although I can't say the view from the room was great, the snowy scenery from the room bath was soothing. It was rare to have in-room dining these days, but the staff who attended to us was very pleasant, and I am truly grateful. I believe it must have been challenging for the staff as they handled everything from meals to room cleaning, but they attended to us with a pleasant smile. I would like to visit again soon.

    About Customer Service

    I had been looking forward to staying at the property for a long time, and I finally had the opportunity to do so. The room had a nice atmosphere, the furniture was lovely, and I was able to relax. The bath seemed to have been recently renovated, and it was clean and very comfortable. However, the only disappointment was the customer service. Shouldn't proper customer service training be provided before staff are put on the floor? The explanations were often unclear and insufficient, and I couldn't enjoy the morning bath I was looking forward to because it coincided with the cleaning time. There were many unclear points during dinner, and the speed of meal service was slow. Despite the high level of the hotel, it felt like some staff couldn't keep up with the customer service, which was unfortunate. The price and service were mismatched. The staff who assisted me tried very hard to explain, but there were many instances of insufficient communication. I could sense their sincerity as individuals, and I have no intention of attacking them personally, but I felt that the consensus between the manager and staff was not aligned. I understand it's difficult to grasp everything, but I felt that more careful attention should be given.

    For a Kanreki celebration

    I introduced this place for a friend's sister's 60th birthday celebration, as they wanted to relax together. They were very satisfied with the renovated room, the food, and the service. When I mentioned the 60th birthday in the comments section, the property surprised them with a gift, which both of them were very touched by. It was worth the introduction, thank you very much. My friend and I are excited to use it for a girls' gathering next time.

    I am grateful for the very pleasant time I spent, truly befitting the spirit of "Ichigo Ichie." I thoroughly enjoyed the attentive service, the exquisite cuisine, and the impeccable taste and decor. I would like to visit again and recommend it to others.
