Although the Accommodation is old, it is well maintained and the Facility had no issues. It was great to be able to see the illuminated Gifu Castle from the Room. The Onsen was at a relaxing temperature, and there was also a sauna, so I really enjoyed it. The sweetfish tempura at breakfast was delicious, but overall I would have liked a few more items, and perhaps because we went later, some dishes were not replenished in time. This time we stayed on our way back from Gujo because it was reasonably priced even during Obon, but next time I’d like to return to watch ukai (cormorant fishing). The ukai rice crackers in the Room were also tasty.

The breakfast was disappointing.
We stayed here as a family of four to watch our friend’s ballet performance. Everyone in Gifu was very kind, and we had a pleasant stay. The only disappointment was the breakfast buffet. There was a good variety, but refills couldn’t keep up, so when we went to get food, many items were empty. Other than that, we enjoyed our time together as a family. We would like to stay again.

Breakfast was delicious. The ayu tempura, fried right in front of us, was especially amazing. I’d love to have it again.

Great-value Plan
I booked a limited-date value Plan at short notice. The food was delicious and the service was good, so I think it was a reasonable Plan. However, even though this is a Hotel on the Nagara River with views of Mt. Kinka, my Room faced the town side, so I’m sorry to say my satisfaction was cut in half. Disappointing. If the Hotel had been fully booked, it couldn’t be helped, but there were few guests that day and it seemed there were Rooms available; with more flexibility, I feel it could have been a win-win for both sides.

The hospitality and service were excellent. Both the bath and the Room were spacious, so we could relax. It would have been nice to have amenities for women. It’s close to the Nagara River, and we were able to fully enjoy hot Gifu. Both the cormorant fishing and the fireworks were wonderful. Thank you very much.

Welcome drink
A complimentary welcome drink would be a nice touch. The Room air conditioning temperature could not be adjusted.

Recommended for business travelers too!
On a business trip, I stayed one night with the Room Assigned on Arrival Plan including breakfast. It was an extremely hot day, and the only disappointment was that the air conditioner in the Room didn’t cool very well, but otherwise I was generally satisfied. It’s better value than staying at a Business Hotel in front of the station, and the Room is spacious with a great view, there’s an Onsen, and the breakfast buffet is delicious—wonderful! It’s a little farther from the station, but I think it’s well worth making the trip.

By chance, we were able to see the Ukai fireworks.
I booked an affordable Plan with breakfast included. I was told the Room would face the town, but thank you for preparing a Room directly overlooking the Nagara River and Gifu Castle. The bonfire marking the start of ukai was beautiful, and while I was filming a video, fireworks happened to appear as well—it was truly moving. Breakfast also included ayu and tara-no-me tempura, and I really enjoyed a delicious meal that felt uniquely Gifu. All of the staff were pleasant, and I had a very comfortable stay. Thank you very much. I would love to stay again if I have the chance.

Its age is hard to hide.
Traveled to Gifu for dinner. Since going back home felt like a hassle, I looked for a nearby Hotel and made a Reservation at Gifu Grand Hotel. A sign in front of the front desk said “Founded in 1965,” and I thought, “Oh!”—the same age as me—so I felt an instant connection. That said, the building’s age does show. I couldn’t help laughing at the built-in hair dryer in the unit bath and the helmet in the closet. It had a very nostalgic vibe. And credit where it’s due—everything was still working properly. With a typhoon approaching, the Room was a bit humid. A dehumidifier might have been better than humidifying—though that would raise the room temperature. My wife used the bath and said it felt great. It was a fun night.

It was the worst.
1) When we arrived by car, there was a bellboy who stood rigidly like an old man. He didn’t greet us, ask our names, or come to take our luggage, which surprised us. 2) We were traveling with a baby and had requested a non-smoking Japanese-style Room in advance online, but when we entered the Room, it reeked of cigarette smoke. We couldn’t even step inside and asked to change Rooms, but the new Room was also terrible. The toilet seat was dirty and the bathtub felt slimy. Since we requested the change suddenly, I wondered if it hadn’t been cleaned. The bathroom also smelled strongly of ammonia and was unpleasant. The toilet seat didn’t fit the toilet properly, which bothered me. At the very least, I wanted them to clean it before showing us to the Room. 3) The breakfast buffet was tasty, but they couldn’t keep up with refilling the food. Many items were missing, and disposable trash containers were left sitting at the jam station—I wondered if no one cleans there… They seemed very busy. We were disappointed with this Accommodation, especially since it was a Golden Week trip with our baby. We will never go again.

The fireworks held in front of the Hotel were amazing.
While I was in the Onsen, a member of the Onsen staff kindly told me that a fireworks festival being held that day would start in 10 minutes, and thanks to that I was able to unexpectedly enjoy beautiful fireworks. It added another wonderful memory to my trip, and I was very happy. On the other hand, when I asked the front desk staff where the fireworks festival would be held, I was only told, “We don’t know because it’s not hosted by our Hotel,” which was a bit disappointing. I think sharing information about local events would make the hospitality feel even warmer. This time I only had breakfast, but there was a wide variety of items and everything was delicious, making for a pleasant start to the day. If I have the chance to visit again, I’d love to try dinner as well. The Onsen staff and everyone else at the Accommodation were generally polite and pleasant, so my stay was very comfortable. Combined with the view of the Nagara River and how relaxing the Onsen was, overall it was a satisfying stay.

I have stayed here several times when visiting Gifu. The meals are delicious and I like the Onsen, but I was very disappointed that the Chinese restaurant has been closed for some time. Also, the view from the Room I stayed in this time was not good at all, which was disappointing. If you were fully booked, it can’t be helped, but since the Room key also didn’t work well, it felt like there was no need to assign that Room. Please keep up the good work.

Highly satisfying
The hospitality and meals were excellent. The bath amenities were a bit lacking, which was slightly disappointing.

The view from the dining area was wonderful!
I stayed in late March on a Plan with breakfast included. I booked a Japanese-style room, and the futon was already laid out when I arrived, so I could rest right away. At breakfast, the freshly made omelet and sweetfish tempura were especially delicious. There was also a great selection of local dishes such as gohei-mochi and red miso soup, which I really enjoyed. The location is also convenient—close to Gifu Castle—so it was easy to head out for sightseeing right away.

Staying in a Room with a view of Mt. Kinka made us feel the history. The meals were good, and the Onsen was also great. A small note: the sliding door to the open-air bath is almost broken, so please repair it so it opens and closes smoothly. Since transportation access is not very convenient, you might consider offering a Shuttle Service or a small discount on taxi fares.

Recommended: Omelet Curry
I stay here fairly often, and I always look forward to breakfast while gazing up at Mt. Kinka. I especially love the curry that only a Hotel can offer. I try different combinations every time, and this time there was a freshly made omelet, so I tried omelet curry—it was delicious and became my new favorite. Highly recommended. They also have tasty Gifu tomatoes and freshly fried shiitake tempura, which gives it a great local feel. This season, I’d be very happy if local strawberries were available with the fruit selection. I’ll be back again.

Second stay
We stayed again around this time, as we did last year. Last year we chose Japanese cuisine; this year we chose the buffet. We arrived around 4:00 PM for our 5:30 PM dinner time, and at check-in we were told that yukata are not allowed in the buffet restaurant. However, they are allowed at breakfast, which makes no sense. We wanted to relax by using the Onsen after arrival and then go to dinner, but because dinner required regular clothes, we skipped the Onsen. From arrival until after dinner, we stayed in regular clothes the whole time. Please add a clear note on the Reservation site under dining information. We were also surprised there was no size chart for yukata. Sizes vary by Accommodation. In an era when there are fewer attendants, there should normally be a size chart at the yukata area as a guide, but there wasn’t one here. When we called to ask, not only was there no size chart—the front desk staff also didn’t know the sizes and told us to try them on instead. For a property that promotes eco-friendliness, this seems careless from a laundry perspective. Please make sure to provide a size chart (e.g., L size: 160–170 cm). Also, when approaching from upstream along the river, it is hard to find the Hotel entrance. We understand “no entry” at the exit side, but it’s difficult to tell where to enter and we ended up driving into the underground parking by mistake. It’s easier to understand when coming from downstream.

The service was great!
We arrived by car, and perhaps because I was traveling with my elderly grandmother, they guided us to a parking space very close to the entrance. I was surprised by how quickly they responded. The futons had already been laid out before 7:00 p.m., so when we checked in, the bedding was already prepared. It felt a little too early, but it was fine. Breakfast was amazing! There weren’t a huge number of items, but there were lots of great flavors and local specialties—very satisfying! Above all, I misunderstood the breakfast end time and the last entry time, and my grandmother almost missed breakfast. Even though we caused trouble, they kindly offered to provide takeaway drinks and sliced bread if that would be enough. I’m truly grateful. We brought it back to the Room, and my grandmother enjoyed it very much. Thank you for your flexible support. I deducted one star for two reasons: I hope the open-air bath will be fixed by our next visit. Also, the power outlets in the Room were far from the pillow area. Could we have borrowed an extension cord? Still, it’s a Hotel that made me want to come back again. Thank you to the two female staff members at the breakfast venue!

The lights at the mountaintop are Inaba Castle on a holy night.
The underground parking is convenient in bad weather. The entrance to the multi-story parking garage is next to the underground parking and can be a bit confusing. There is also a huge riverside parking area on the south side of the embankment road. Since all options involve steps, slopes, or some walking distance, it’s best to drop off your luggage at the main entrance first. However, traffic is heavy, so take extra care when moving your car. The Room was clean with a practical layout and plenty of space for luggage. The air conditioning worked well and was easy to adjust. Soundproofing may be slightly lacking. The large unit bath was comfortable, and bathing while looking out at the castle in front was especially pleasant. The top-floor restaurant after Christmas was quieter than expected, making it relaxing and unhurried. Depending on your seat, the night view is very beautiful. Service was polite and kind. Breakfast is served buffet-style in a large hall, with staff guiding you to your table. It operates by Reservation with time slots to prevent crowding. The small sweetfish tempura and hoba miso were delicious. The selection and portions were plentiful, and items were well replenished even at later timeslots.

It was wonderful!
The spacious lobby and the staff's courteous service left a great impression. The Room was clean and spacious, allowing for a relaxing stay. The Japanese Kaiseki cuisine at "Japanese Restaurant Kissho" was exquisite, with delicate flavors and beautiful presentation. The breakfast buffet offered a wide variety of dishes featuring plenty of Gifu ingredients, all of which were delicious. The bath was also very pleasant. It was a Hotel I would love to visit again.

Beyond Expectations
The budget-friendly plan with a "Room at our discretion" option turned out great as I was given a non-smoking twin room as requested. While the view wasn't river-facing, having breakfast included at this price is almost unheard of. The Facility's large public bath provided towels and bath towels, which added a touch of luxury rarely seen elsewhere. Unlike many places where you have to reuse and dry one bath towel, being able to use fresh ones every time was refreshing. Breakfast featured local specialties like tempura of young sweetfish and Hida beef miso-yaki, served with a pleasant view. Personally, I found the miso and soy sauce in the miso-yaki too rich for older palates, slightly overshadowing the natural flavor of the meat. Overall, it became a wonderful memory from my trip to Gifu.

It is a good Hotel.
We used the plan exclusively for guests aged 60 and over. The French cuisine for dinner was extremely delicious and elegant, including both fish and meat in the course. The portions were just right, and my wife was very pleased. The Onsen, which apparently contains iron, was incredibly relaxing with a soothing sensation that seemed to melt away tension. Additionally, the breakfast featuring local dishes such as tempura of Ayu fish was outstanding. We will definitely return!

Convenient accommodation as a starting point for sightseeing.
The Hotel is located along the Nagara River, close to attractions such as the Cormorant Fishing Museum, Mount Kinka, and Gifu Castle. Additionally, free bicycle rentals were provided, making it a very convenient base for sightseeing.

The view is excellent.
The service is traditional and warm, befitting a historic Hotel. The view of Mount Kinka directly in front is stunning. However, the Facility is old. I stayed in a Japanese-style room, which might not appeal to younger guests. Overall, it offers good value for money.

Ukai Boat and the Castle Shining in the Night Breeze
A Hotel with easy access and parking, located along the embankment road of the Nagara River. Though slightly older, renovations are underway. Rooms offer a front-facing view of the river, Mount Kinka, and Gifu Castle (illuminated until late). Spacious and convenient with ample storage space. Both beds and tatami mats are clean. Shelves and sofas could benefit from less stain-prone materials for improvement. The room includes a slightly larger unit bath with a small window offering an outside view. For those who head to the large communal bath, there is also an open-air bath available; however, no scenic views can be enjoyed there. It seems to accommodate day-use visitors as well. Towels and lockers are well-maintained. Beer is available from vending machines. Dinner is served in a large hall with chairs and tables placed centrally on tatami flooring—service is exceptionally polite and refined in a calm atmosphere. Seasonal dishes rich in local flavors include delicious ayu (sweetfish) dishes and shabu-shabu. Breakfast takes place in a grand banquet hall often used for weddings, offered buffet-style—early hours tend to get crowded. The freshly fried ayu tempura comes highly recommended!

Cormorant Fishing Viewing
Stay for cormorant fishing viewing. A perfect accommodation just a short walk to the Nagara River, ideal for quietly observing the cormorant fishing. The room has been renovated, and breakfast features local specialties such as small sweetfish tempura. The staff's dedication is evident. While the structure, over 60 years old, does show its age, it adds to the charm if viewed positively. Take your time in the morning and wait until group guests have departed for a more relaxed experience.

Couple's Trip
I used to stay here often as both my child and I attended university in Gifu. Now, the Hotel feels quite dated. The breakfast buffet has significantly fewer options than before. It was a Hotel filled with both nostalgia and a touch of sadness.

Enjoyed the stunning views and delicious breakfast.
We booked a pet-friendly Room for our first cormorant fishing experience and were able to leave our beloved dog safely in the provided large cage. The location, with a view of Gifu Castle and the Nagara River, was excellent, giving an impression of a classic Hotel. The breakfast buffet featured plenty of local ingredients, including freshly fried sweetfish tempura, made-to-order omelets with premium eggs, Hida beef grilled with miso on magnolia leaves, handmade tofu and bread, gohei mochi rice cakes, and the Hotel's special curry—all delicious and highly satisfying. The dishes were well-prepared overall; even the coffee was delightful. The service staff seemed well-trained as well. I've heard great things about their French cuisine too—something I’d like to try someday. Although the Facility is older and there was a slight tobacco smell from the neighboring Room, we appreciated that the public bath was available until midnight and early in the morning. It allowed us to enjoy a comfortable stay overall—I would love to visit again!
