    A Memorable Accommodation

    After earning my Onsen Sommelier Master certification, I’ve been gradually visiting Onsen around Japan. The water quality in Shibu Onsen is truly wonderful. I was surprised by how many international visitors there were. Because the public bath tour was crowded, I couldn’t visit them all… but I was able to enjoy almost all of the baths at the Ryokan. The staff were very friendly and relaxed, which made my stay truly soothing. To Mr. Y from the male staff: thank you for all the fun conversations. If you have time, please do come to Niigata again.

    An Accommodation for Enjoying Indoor Hot Spring Hopping and the Nine Hot Springs Tour

    I stayed for a Multiple Night Stay of 2 nights. Because I made the Reservation for the second night later after a vacancy opened up, I stayed in different Rooms on the first and second nights. On the first night, I really enjoyed the nostalgic atmosphere of having a kotatsu again for the first time in a while, and it was such a wonderful Room that I was very satisfied. On the second night, I stayed in an especially luxurious Room with an Onsen bath, thoughtfully arranged so you can listen to music while soaking. As for the private baths inside the building, there were options where you can soak in baths fed by multiple hot spring sources, as well as one where you can luxuriously reserve an extremely large public bath for private use. I had plenty of fun doing an indoor hot spring tour as well. Advance Reservations were available until around 9:00 PM; after that, if there was availability, it was sometimes possible to use them without a Reservation. Thanks to that, even though I couldn’t reserve some of the private baths beforehand, I was able to try all of them over the course of the night. When people think of Shibu Onsen they often think of “the Nine-Bath Pilgrimage,” and after doing it myself, I felt this Accommodation is in an excellent location for it. If you head left you reach Baths 1–3; if you head right you reach Baths 4–9. Bath 9 (Oyu) is almost next door. Since Bath 3 and Bath 5 are about equally far away—the farthest points on each side—it felt like this place is located almost right in the middle of all nine baths. In particular, having Bath 9 (Oyu), likely one of the most crowded baths, so close by is very appealing for Onsen lovers. This is just my personal preference: at some Onsen (the ones in my Room and at one large bath), I couldn’t find a hot spring analysis sheet showing water quality details (though it’s possible I simply missed it), so I reduced my rating by one star. That said, I was very satisfied with the Onsen overall; judging from visible yunohana mineral deposits alone, there’s no doubt about its quality. The water qualities vary from bath to bath; personally I even felt therapeutic benefits, and I would gladly stay again.

    I traveled by car, b...

    I traveled by car, but the parking lot is not next to the accommodation and is located further away. There was no prior information, and when I called on the day, I received one-sided instructions that were completely unclear. The parking information on the website indicates it is next to a large private parking lot, but this was entirely incorrect. Additionally, most of the guests were foreigners; we were the only Japanese guests. I felt that even the accommodation fee seemed to be set for foreign visitors. The room was very old. However, the food portions were generous and satisfying.

    Highly Satisfied

    The hot spring water is amazing! The bathing system in the facility is also unique and enjoyable. It's great that you don't have to share with strangers. I was lucky to find a spacious bath available, so I could fully relax on my own. The staff are friendly and very kind. I would love to visit again!

    Well-equipped bath facilities

    There are many private baths available, so you can feel satisfied without needing to visit the nine external Onsen. The day before, I stayed at another accommodation and visited five of the nine Onsen, so I was content with just enjoying the Onsen at this accommodation and did not visit the remaining four. My wife only went to one nearby Onsen, the ninth Daiyu. The meals were satisfying overall in terms of quality, quantity, and balance for both dinner and breakfast. There were many stairs, and we got lost several times. We even discussed as a couple that visiting now while we have no issues with our legs or back was a good decision. It might be a bit challenging 10 years from now. Overall, everything was clean and well-maintained, allowing us to enjoy our stay comfortably.

    The food was delicio...

    The food was delicious, and it was great to have a private bath for the family. However, it was unfortunate that there was no elevator as I have difficulty walking.

    Onsen Indulgence

    This was my first visit to Shibu Onsen, and I found the quaint onsen town to be absolutely charming. At Kokuyasan, all the staff were warm and welcoming with wonderful smiles. I truly appreciated all the helpful information they provided. I enjoyed both the private Onsen and the bath in my room, as well as visiting all nine of the public baths in town. The meals at Kokuyasan were exceptional—everything was delicious! The shabu-shabu, sashimi, and grilled ayu fish were all outstanding. I paired them with "Yukizaru," a smooth yet rich nigori sake that complemented every dish perfectly. It was a relaxing two days filled with Onsen indulgence—I can’t wait to return! Thank you so much!

    The stay at the accommodation was very satisfying, but...

    The accommodation offers a variety of baths that can be enjoyed privately at any time during your stay. Its excellent location also allows for easy access to the nine Onsen spots in Shibu Onsen town, making it perfect for fully enjoying the hot springs. The meals were beautifully presented, healthy, and delicious. The celebratory cake was filled with strawberries, making it a wonderful birthday trip. Thank you very much. However... I had been trying to call regarding pick-up from Yudanaka Station about three days before our stay, but kept getting an automated "outside business hours" message every day. It made me anxious about whether the Ryokan was actually operating or if we could even stay there. After arriving, though, the friendly staff put my worries at ease. Still, I think the voicemail message could be improved (at least include the name of the Ryokan). That said, it was truly a great accommodation! My two friends were also very happy with their experience.
