    It was excellent!

    We recently stayed here for a birthday trip with my sister. The other guests were pleasant, and we enjoyed a quiet and peaceful time. On the day of our arrival, there was a severe snowstorm, and the sea was rough with roaring sounds. However, the next morning, sunlight streamed through gaps in the clouds, revealing beautiful colors in the sky visible from our room. Although we expected bad weather during midwinter, we were delighted to see such a clear morning view—it was stunning. I imagine the sunset would be even more beautiful, so I hope to visit again in early summer! The room was spacious and very clean. For dinner, they served dishes themed for that month—a delightful Hina Matsuri meal set that was adorable! The food itself was incredibly delicious. Breakfast was truly luxurious and made us feel very pampered. The rice served at breakfast (Tsuyahime) was exceptionally tasty—absolutely unforgettable! The onsen had several types of baths; they were spacious and allowed us to relax fully. Additionally, various services provided by the accommodation were excellent. I would love to stay here again and highly recommend this accommodation to others! Thank you so much!

    Family Trip

    I stayed at an accommodation with a view of the Sea of Japan after being impressed by the photos. Upon entering the room, I was greeted by a breathtaking view of the vast ocean right in front of me. As a family of four, our children used beds while we used futons, which were very comfortable and satisfying. Although the public bath felt slightly crowded and small, we enjoyed using the private bath in our room multiple times. From there, we could also see the sea; opening the window revealed only sky and ocean—a truly luxurious experience. The dining area was semi-private, making it comfortable to spend time there. The menu included seafood and meat dishes that were perfectly seasoned, served warm, and just right in portion size. Even the rice had an ideal texture and was delicious. The ryokan staff provided excellent service with thoughtful gestures such as guiding us to our room and timing meals perfectly, allowing us to relax completely during our stay. Thank you very much for your hospitality—I look forward to staying again!

    The meals and open-air baths are excellent, but the bathroom in the guest room is disappointing.

    Stayed in a Japanese-Style Deluxe Twin Room (Tatami Room). The room was overall clean as it was renovated in March 2023, but the en-suite bathroom was a very cheap-looking unit bath, reminiscent of an old Business Hotel, which was disappointing. The public bath had great space, water quality, and views, so using the public bath mitigates this issue. However, the gap compared to the suite room I stayed in previously left me feeling slightly disappointed. The meals were made with fresh ingredients from Shonai and were absolutely delicious with just the right portions—very satisfying. The seafood from Shonai is indeed exceptionally tasty.

    This is my second visit.

    I took my mother this April, and she was so delighted that this time I invited my sister and her husband as well. The 9th-floor suite room, the food, the service—everything was absolutely wonderful! This accommodation is worth the 6.5-hour drive from Kanto. Thank you for your hospitality.

    You can enjoy a comfortable stay.

    The service was excellent, and I had a very pleasant stay. The large Room's window offered beautiful views of the sea and sunset. The food was also delicious. It would be nice if the souvenir shop had a bit more variety.

    Sunset over the Sea of Japan

    An Onsen Ryokan facing the Sea of Japan. The renovated rooms offer a panoramic view of the Sea of Japan, allowing for a relaxing stay. The meals, featuring seafood, meat, mushrooms, and vegetables unique to Yamagata Prefecture, are truly exceptional. We were very satisfied with this wonderful accommodation.

    Enjoyed delicious cuisine.

    It was my first time staying in the Shonai area, and I was looking forward to enjoying the local ingredients. The combination of fish, meat, vegetables, and freshly harvested rice was well-balanced and very satisfying. The local "Gassan Wine" paired perfectly with the dishes and was delightful. Of course, I also enjoyed the Onsen. The open-air bath with a panoramic view of the Sea of Japan was particularly stunning. Although the building shows its age, the cuisine and scenery were more than satisfying. I would love to visit again if given the chance.

    It was a comfortable Room.

    It was a spacious room with a great view. The courteous service from the moment of arrival made it very pleasant. Compared to the dinner filled with local specialties, the breakfast felt slightly less worth its value. It seemed there was also a shortage of staff. It was an accommodation that makes you want to come back again.

    Unfortunately, we co...

    Unfortunately, we couldn't see the sunset due to the weather, but in the morning we were able to enjoy a beautiful view of the sea. Some people were walking out to the sandy beach. For dinner, we enjoyed delicious abalone sautéed right in front of us, fresh sashimi, and tender Yamagata beef. It was nice that we could choose porridge for breakfast. The time available for using the large public bath was long, making it a comfortable property to stay at. Thank you very much.

    I had a wonderfully relaxing time.

    I stayed in a suite. The view from the sea and the room bath combined to create an infinity bath that was wonderfully relaxing. I enjoyed the bath many times both in the evening and morning. Of course, the view from the room was also wonderful and relaxing. The room had a microwave and washing machine, making it a property where I would like to stay for several nights at leisure. Dinner was also delicious. My husband's dried fish at breakfast had a nice texture and umami, but mine was mushy with no umami, which made me feel uneasy, so I requested a replacement. Unfortunately, this discomfort lingered until afternoon, which was disappointing.

    Somewhat incomplete impression.

    Despite being a Facility overlooking the Sea of Japan, one of the large baths has no view at all. Male guests cannot enjoy the sunset while soaking in the Onsen. The fact that only one set of towels is provided is also disappointing. The Room attendant's explanation was minimal, and there were no razors available in the women's bath. As for meals, both wine and sake had limited local options. Considering the effort to travel to Shonai, which is not easily accessible, it would have been better if they fully embraced showcasing Shonai's specialties.
