The view was amazing.

This was our first time staying at this Accommodation. The food was delicious, and the Onsen was wonderful. The staff were also very courteous. The Hotel is right in front of the sea, and the views from the lounge, dining area, and Room were beautiful. We were lucky enough to see a stunning sunset as well. We had a very relaxing stay.

    Ocean View

A long-established Accommodation in Yuno-hama Onsen This was my first stay. The sunset views from the lobby and the Room were wonderful. It was also nice to be able to walk barefoot inside the building. Dinner featured carefully prepared seafood-focused dishes, and the service was attentive. One small downside is that, since it’s by the sea, it would be helpful to have a foot-washing area when entering the building (the public beach washing area is sandy). Also, you can’t see the ocean from the large public bath. Overall, it was a great Accommodation.

A Spectacular Sunset and a Delicious Dinner

We enjoyed dinner while watching the sun set over the Sea of Japan. The delicious local cuisine from Yamagata was outstanding. The Onsen has a refreshing feel on the skin and warms you thoroughly. At night, a short fireworks display was launched from the beach right in front of the Ryokan, and we enjoyed it from our Room window.

The ocean view from the Room was beautiful. After doing the evening exercises, it no longer hurt to turn over in bed, so I’d like to keep doing them. The Onsen was also very relaxing, and I was able to unwind. I’d love to visit again. Please consider allowing guests to bring dogs as well!

A quiet seaside Accommodation with delicious meals and stunning views

I first stayed at this Accommodation about two years ago, and the meal while watching the sun set into the Sea of Japan left a lasting impression, so I visited again in early July. This time I stayed in a larger Room on the 4th floor; including the living area it was very spacious, with a separate bedroom and a great view from the window, making for a very comfortable stay. The interior is covered with tatami mats or carpet, so you can spend your time barefoot or in spa socks and truly relax. The dining area is located at the back of the lounge on the 1st floor, and both breakfast and dinner are enjoyed while looking out over the Sea of Japan. The meals were Japanese cuisine with a creative touch, and I felt that everything—from seasoning to variety, presentation, and tableware—was of a high standard. There are two large public baths that alternate between men and women depending on the time of day; including an open-air style bath they were kept very clean, and the water was gentle on the skin. Depending on the season, Yunohama Onsen may not be an Onsen town that draws huge crowds; instead it is quiet and calm—an Accommodation I recommend for anyone who wants to unwind while enjoying delicious food and Onsen at a relaxed pace.

They may be short-staffed, but I stayed for two nights and the Room was not cleaned at all, and even the tea cups were not washed. When I asked at check-out, I was told it was because I hadn’t requested it.
However, nothing was confirmed with us at check-in. The breakfast information was explained to the guests at the next table, but we were met with silence.
Outside the Room, perhaps due to its age, there was a musty smell.
The view was nice and breakfast was delicious, but I don’t think I would stay again or recommend it to anyone.

It’s always amazing, no matter when you go.

This is my third stay, and I’m completely satisfied every time. The meals are carefully prepared dish by dish using seasonal ingredients, and everything is truly delicious. The serving timing is excellent as well, making it very comfortable to dine. I’m always grateful that you can accommodate my companion who doesn’t like meat. The bath in the Room is wonderful—I can relax while soaking and looking out at the sea. The lobby also has ice pops and drinks to enjoy after a bath, which is a nice touch. I will visit again.

    Three friends and I ...

Three friends and I stayed for one night and two days. As we walked from the entrance into the lobby, we were captivated by the beautiful view of the Sea of Japan. It was a quiet, relaxing Ryokan. The meals were especially wonderful—everything was delicious, including the sashimi, wild mountain vegetables, and Yamagata beef grilled on a ceramic plate. Breakfast came with many small side dishes—more than we could finish—and it was all very tasty. The staff member who assisted us was also very pleasant, and we were surprised when the Ryokan staff came out to see us off as our bus passed by when we left. We were truly happy. We made great memories. Thank you very much.

    Unfortunately, the weather isn't great...

I booked accommodation in this area to enjoy the sunset, but unfortunately, it was rainy. Such a pity. As expected from a rice-producing region, I got to compare different types of rice! (Different rice was used for breakfast and dinner.) If only I could have compared two types at once, I might have been able to enjoy the differences in taste even more!? When I followed the GPS instructions while driving, it surprisingly led me up into the mountains (laughs). I thought it should be along the coast? So I went back down and managed to arrive somehow. However, even when driving along the coast, parking is located behind the building and might be tricky to find. It’s recommended to check directions on the accommodation's website beforehand.

    What a pity.

I have visited Yunohama Onsen many times and usually stayed at the same hotel, but this time I decided to try staying at Ikkyu for a change. Unfortunately, the weather was not great, but I was able to relax and enjoy the onsen. The dinner lacked creativity, which was disappointing, and since it wasn't in a private room, I found myself bothered by the eating noises from the neighboring table. The room's onsen was compact but sufficient; however, it took quite a long time for the shower to get hot, which felt inconvenient. It was also disappointing that there were no complimentary drinks provided in the room's refrigerator. While the room itself was clean and pleasant, I noticed that the slippery duvet cover caused the bedding to slide off easily, which bothered me. Perhaps my expectations were too high after seeing how good it looked on Instagram.

    A warm and cozy accommodation.

The staff were very kind and gave us a warm welcome. The food was excellent, and I was very satisfied to enjoy a whole grilled nodoguro as I had hoped. One suggestion would be to improve the efficiency of temperature adjustment for the indoor hot spring bath, which is a great feature. Both the facility and the Room were kept clean, allowing for a comfortable stay. I would love to visit again!

The day of arrival was heavily overcast, but fortunately, I was able to watch the sunset over the Sea of Japan from my room. The second day blessed me with clear skies, and I used a sightseeing taxi recommended by the hostess to visit Dewa Sanzan. There, I admired the five-story pagoda standing tall in the forest. Afterward, I thoroughly explored Tsuruoka City and had a wonderful time. The meals were slightly abundant for seniors but featured fresh ingredients from both sea and mountains, served at perfect timing. Everything was delicious, and I especially loved the chewy Yukiwakamaru rice. I enjoyed almost exclusive access to the Onsen before dinner and before bedtime. Although it was a solo trip, staff members warmly engaged with me during meals, making my stay comfortable and pleasant. Thank you very much!

The view of the Sea of Japan from the room's window is magnificent.

This was my first visit to Yunohama Onsen. The accommodation is located along the long coastline of the Sea of Japan, and its main attractions are undoubtedly the stunning ocean views, sunsets, and beautiful shoreline. I opted for a small gourmet course meal, which featured an excellent selection of delicious dishes. Personally, I would appreciate an even smaller portion option. The view from the room was extraordinary and offered a delightful escape from everyday life. Watching the sunset added to my satisfaction. The room seemed recently renovated and included a private onsen with water flowing directly into it, along with a window offering breathtaking views of the Sea of Japan. However, there were some minor drawbacks. Since it faces the sea, it's understandable that certain challenges arise; for instance, the bathroom window was fixed and could not be opened. Additionally, the ventilation fan seemed weak, causing condensation to accumulate on all surfaces in the bathroom area. Another point worth mentioning is that while enjoying views of the Sea of Japan from my room's window was wonderful, I noticed dirt on its exterior side which slightly detracted from my experience. The interior side was clean but maintaining both sides might enhance guests' enjoyment further—though I understand daily cleaning may be difficult. The onsen town itself felt quiet and somewhat desolate as it wasn't beach season during my visit. While I've heard it's lively in summer months due to beachgoers, I'd love to see more focus on promoting its appeal as an onsen destination year-round. Thank you for your hospitality!

    It was so relaxing!

Last year, I couldn't make a reservation as it was fully booked, but after two years, I stayed again and was once more impressed by the warm hospitality of the staff, the carefully prepared dishes, and the high-quality onsen. This is an accommodation I would love to visit again!

    Bright, enjoyable, and relaxing accommodation

The lobby, bathroom, and room all offer a full view of the ocean. The staff were cheerful, efficient, engaging, and the meals were exceptionally delicious and enjoyable at a leisurely pace. The next morning, we were seen off by two individuals who seemed to be the former owner and hostess. It was an accommodation we would love to visit again.

It was a wonderful, very clean Accommodation. The service was excellent, and the meals were delicious—especially the rice. At dinner we had Yukiwakamaru, and at breakfast Tsuyahime; it was fun to compare them. The view from the Room was outstanding. We would definitely like to visit again.

It was a very lovely accommodation.

A cozy accommodation, offering a quiet and relaxing stay. The view from the room was excellent; although it was cloudy, on a clear day, you could enjoy a stunning sunset. Both dinner and breakfast were satisfying in taste and portion, but having some local traditional dishes would have enhanced the experience. The private hot spring bath in the room had natural flowing water but was quite hot, requiring temperature adjustment before use. Since the windows cannot be opened, it felt like a mist sauna. It would be great if part of the window could open or if slits were added for ventilation. I would love to stay at this accommodation again if I have another opportunity!

    The meals were excellent.

We stayed for two nights as a couple. The room had an onsen, and as mentioned in the reviews, the water temperature was very high at first, but it was not an issue since running some cold water made it comfortable. We also enjoyed the large public bath. While sitting quietly on the sofa in our room, we noticed some water sounds from the neighboring room. The meals were excellent with perfectly balanced flavors; dinner on the second night felt more luxurious. A multiple night stay is highly recommended. Breakfast was also delicious, and both of us had seconds of rice. The vegetable-rich meals were gentle on our stomachs. We considered choosing a lighter plan but were glad we went with the standard one. All staff members greeted us warmly with smiles and provided exceptional service throughout our stay. Thank you for taking care of us!

I stayed here for the first time while combining it with a hike up Mount Gassan. The large window in the tastefully designed Room offered a breathtaking view of Yunohama Beach and the vast Sea of Japan. I was lucky to witness the sunset sinking into the sea, painting the sky in shades of crimson—a truly spectacular sight. The meals were exceptional, featuring dishes like grilled Wagyu beef on a ceramic plate and fresh, thickly sliced sashimi that were both delicious and satisfying. There are two large public baths available, which can be used separately by men and women depending on the time of day. The clear, soothing hot spring water provided a relaxing bathing experience. Above all, what stood out was the warm-hearted service from all staff members—it was truly outstanding. I would love to stay here again!

Ryokan with a Great Ocean View

The beach is right in front of the Ryokan, making it a great choice for families with children during summer. The staff are polite and attentive. Meals feature plenty of fresh seafood but are fairly average. The dining area feels like a restaurant with tables in one large room and no partitions, so it’s not very private or relaxing for meals. Breakfast is also neither particularly impressive nor disappointing. This Ryokan offers slightly better than mid-range accommodations and is enjoyable for families with kids, though it might feel a bit lacking for adults traveling alone or as a couple.

The food and the view were both excellent!

I planned a trip to Yamagata to see the alpine plants of Mount Gassan. Since I was unfamiliar with the area, I chose IKYU based on the reviews on IKYU.com. It was an excellent accommodation as expected, and I was delighted with the delicious meals. The contrast between the sunset over the Sea of Japan and the pure white sandy beach below left a beautiful and lasting impression. Additionally, the Shonai melon recommended by one of the staff members was incredibly delicious. When I gave it as a souvenir, it received rave reviews.

Stayed in a very nice Room at a special price during construction.

Everything was perfect. The room was spacious and clean, with fluffy futons. The Onsen featured a natural hot spring with a slightly hot open-air bath. The meals were excellent, and for younger guests, additional dinner orders could be made at check-in. The sake tasting set was also delicious. Best of all, the view from the room of the sandy beach and the deep red sunset sinking into the sea was breathtaking. I will definitely visit again!

    Good.

The view from the room was not available due to renovations, but the stay was more affordable, which was fantastic. The onsen in the private room bath was sourced directly from the hot spring, and while adjusting the temperature of the very hot water was a bit challenging, it felt incredibly refreshing with its freshness. The meals were satisfying! I even ended up ordering additional dishes and left completely satisfied. I would definitely love to stay at this accommodation again after renovations are complete.

    Feels great to walk barefoot.

Although we couldn't see the sunset we were hoping for, the stunning view of the Sea of Japan from the lobby was breathtaking. The facility is clean, and being able to walk around barefoot made it very relaxing. The meals served in the morning and evening featured different types of rice, both of which were delicious.

    The meals were excellent.

I thought it was a wonderful accommodation that truly catered to every need. (Yukata, towels in pairs, exceptional cleanliness that made slippers unnecessary, amenities, etc.) For me personally, the meals were the best I've ever had—absolutely delicious and perfectly suited to my taste. The portions, presentation, nutritional balance, and preparation all reflected uncompromising care and heartfelt effort. Each dish felt auspicious and filled with sincerity; I was deeply moved by the happiness it brought me. Dining while overlooking the Sea of Japan added an unparalleled sense of luxury. Recently I had been feeling down, but my spirits were instantly lifted during my stay—it felt like a fresh start for me. The staff members were kind and exuded genuine warmth throughout my visit. Even upon departure, they came outside to see me off until I was out of sight. Honestly speaking, while many accommodations focus on welcoming guests warmly at check-in but are less attentive during farewells—even at high-end places—this accommodation stood out with its heartfelt hospitality and gratitude from beginning to end. Thank you very much!

    It was a wonderful stay.

A family trip with our second daughter. We visited upon her request as she loves fish. Everything was delicious, especially the sakura trout with anglaise sauce—it was so good that we cleaned the plate! The Room was modern and clean, and the large public bath was always tidy and comfortable. Heartfelt and warm hospitality from all the staff... Next time, we will visit with the whole family. Thank you very much!

Enjoy delicious cuisine and a relaxing time with views of the Sea of Japan!

We stayed for two nights to relax during the New Year. From the lobby and the room, you can see the winter Sea of Japan up close. We enjoyed the beautiful scenery and onsen. Dinner included New Year-themed appetizers, yuzu bowl dishes, warm soups like noppei and chikuzen-jiru, and unique delicacies served in a kelp basket—all were delicious. Even though it was fully booked during the New Year season, this cozy accommodation allowed us to quietly enjoy the onsen!

    It was a wonderful stay.

Since it was a last-minute plan, I decided to stay here because it mentioned an onsen with natural hot spring water. It pleasantly exceeded my expectations, with the staff's genuine hospitality, a room that was clean, a bath that was as wonderful as expected, and meals that made me wonder if it was economically viable for the management. It was a truly wonderful stay. Thank you for kindly and promptly preparing the futon when I wanted to lie down before dinner.
