    The food is excellent.

    I have stayed here many times. The warm hospitality, the spotless Room, the Rokkakudo Onsen, and above all, the wonderful seasonal cuisine are outstanding. The presentation, colors, and taste are all flawless. I will visit again in winter.

    It was very relaxing.

    Thank you again for everything. This Accommodation is outstanding in every way. Since it was May, we enjoyed a variety of mountain vegetable dishes. Even vegetables we’re not used to at home were delicious. The young bamboo shoots were truly amazing... my husband and I were so impressed. They’ve made it into our “dishes we want to eat again at Matsunoyu” ranking. (Number one is the zunda-dressed Rokuta-fu—absolutely exquisite!) Our child also said on the drive home, “I want to go to Torachan’s Onsen again,” so we’ll be back in summer. We’re really looking forward to it.

    I’ve loved this Accommodation since before my child was born, and even after having a child we continue to stay here regularly. It’s a bit far from Tokyo, but since our child enjoys driving too, we come by car and make a few stops along the way. We have a favorite Room, so every time we arrive I feel like I’m coming back home, and it’s always incredibly relaxing. Both my husband and I love the Octagonal Bath—both the water quality and the atmosphere are outstanding. And above all, the food is exceptional. We love Onsen and have stayed at many high-end Ryokan across The whole country, but none of their meals come close to Matsunoyu’s… The head chef is truly amazing. I sincerely hope they will stay for a long time and that nothing ever changes. Everyone on staff is genuinely kind, and our child also said, “Let’s go again!” The cat in the garden is absolutely adorable too, and it makes me so happy when we get to see it. Thank you very much for everything. We look forward to seeing you all again soon.

    A Welcoming Ryokan

    I stayed here last year and returned this year to stay in the same Room. It’s a Ryokan that feels like coming back to my family home. The gentleman who welcomed me kept a straight face, but it has its own charm. All the staff greeted me politely every time, which made me happy. This time I injured my foot and told them I couldn’t sit on the floor, and they kindly provided a chair, which was a big help. Thank you very much. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious. It’s wonderful that the meals can be prepared in the Room. Every staff member is truly kind. The bath in the Room was also very relaxing, and my body felt much better afterward. This is an Accommodation that makes me want to come back once a month. I will definitely visit again, and I look forward to seeing you then.

    I was able to show gratitude to my parents.

    I had the opportunity to stay at the detached accommodation of Matsu-no-Yu, which I had been curious about for a while. Overall, I was satisfied, but in winter, the room's insulation was poor and it was very cold. It would have been nice if there were at least a warm shower room in the private bath area. Other than that, I enjoyed the traditional atmosphere and found it cozy and relaxing.

    A traditional establishment with the best Onsen.

    As a long-established inn, the facility has an old-fashioned charm. The Onsen offers two types of baths, both with excellent water quality, allowing for a relaxing soak. The open-air bath features a large stone tub with a view of the garden, providing an exceptional bathing experience. The meals are carefully prepared and delicious, including the exquisite Yamagata beef. The staff were kind and attentive, and conversations with them became wonderful memories.

    Enjoy two types of Onsen

    The open-air bath with the impressive pine tree in front was wonderful. The hot spring qualities for the men's and women's baths were different, allowing us to enjoy them both in the evening and the next morning. Additionally, all the staff were friendly and provided excellent service. Thank you!

    Open-air bath with the fragrance of fragrant olive.

    A small and cozy accommodation offering warm hospitality, starting with a pick-up service from the station. The staff attending to the in-room dining provided just the right balance of attentiveness for a solo traveler. The large fragrant osmanthus tree in the garden gently scented the air as I stepped into the open-air bath. Though my poor eyesight made it hard to tell if the flowers were buds or lingering blooms, I felt fortunate to experience this season and imagined how strong the fragrance must be at its peak.

    I had a relaxing time!

    I have visited various Ryokans in Yamagata, but Yuno-ka Matsunoyu stood out with its extremely polite staff. The dinner and breakfast were very delicious. The Room's bath was also excellent, helping me relax and recover from fatigue. I would love to stay here again.

    A must-visit accommodation again

    It was a relaxing and satisfying accommodation. Matsunoyu values "just the right amount of distance," as described, which made the stay very comfortable. The meals were all carefully prepared and delicious. While unique combinations or rare ingredients can be exciting, knowing from the start that the dishes are simple yet delicious with touches of local cuisine is more than enough charm. However, everything was so tasty that my friend and I, who can't leave food uneaten, ended up too full to move! It had been years since we felt that full. The baths switch during the night, allowing you to enjoy two types. It was such a relaxing and wonderful accommodation that I told my family as soon as I got home that we should visit next time together. Also, not encountering families with young children (below elementary school age) might have contributed to our satisfaction. Apologies if this offends anyone considering staying at a Ryokan with children—this is just an honest impression!

    Smooth Onsen

    The Onsen water was smooth and left my skin feeling silky, even though there were no visible mineral deposits. It made me smile despite myself. All the meals were delicious, especially the rich sweetness of the corn potage, which was a delightful surprise. It would have been even better if the dish explanations were a bit more detailed. Despite a significant train delay due to an accident, they kindly provided shuttle service by car, which was very helpful—much appreciated! What impressed me most was not only that there wasn’t any dust in the facility but also that the wooden corridors and walls had a beautiful sheen. This level of care must require exceptional effort—it truly reflects their dedication.

    Relax and unwind with natural hot springs and delicious meals.

    I visit Tendo every year during this season for cherry picking. Above all, the Onsen at Matsunoyu is exceptional. I always look forward to relaxing in the bath while enjoying the view of the garden. I particularly love the open-air "Genkotsu no Yu," but it's a bit disappointing that men's bathing time ends at 10 PM, so I can't enjoy it as a morning bath. The meals are always creative and delicious. This time, I was especially impressed by the tenderness of Yamagata beef shabu-shabu. The hydrangea-shaped dish was also delightful. Additionally, I had the special treat of tasting Yamagata Benitama cherries. Thank you very much!

    Accommodation for Adults

    We stayed in a detached accommodation this time, and it truly felt private with the entire garden to ourselves. Despite being late June, the cool breeze coming through the screen doors during light rain was incredibly refreshing and soothing. The room featured an open-air onsen bath made of slightly larger ceramic, fed directly from the hot spring source, allowing us to relax at our own pace. Waking up in the morning and immediately soaking in the outdoor bath was pure luxury. The large communal open-air onsen overlooking a grand red pine tree in the garden is also highly recommended. The room itself was slightly dated but very spacious, with separate areas for sleeping and dining. Since there were only two of us, we enjoyed meals served privately in our room, savoring quiet dinners and breakfasts away from buffet-style noise. The cuisine consisted of traditional Japanese dishes crafted by a skilled chef, which suited my taste perfectly. While they offer Yamagata beef grilled on a ceramic plate as part of their menu, it might not appeal as much to children or younger guests. This is an accommodation I would love to visit again during snow-covered winter months!

    I had a comfortable stay from check-in to check-out. Both dinner and breakfast were served in the room, allowing me to relax and enjoy watching TV without any worries after a long time. This accommodation was perfect for a solo trip where I wanted to spend time relaxing in the onsen or in the room without walking around too much. Thank you for providing me with such a wonderful experience.

    Despite being located in the city, it is quiet with a pleasant atmosphere. The facilities and rooms are clean, and the meals are delicious, allowing for a fulfilling stay. If I may suggest, it would be great if both large baths had open-air options...

    Great value for money.

    The Room had a private onsen bath large enough for two people, which was absolutely amazing. We chose the small portion Plan, about 60% of the usual amount, but it felt like more and was incredibly delicious. Meals were served in the Room, and the hospitality was excellent, truly showcasing Japanese omotenashi. When they noticed my husband having back issues, they kindly brought a slightly higher chair suitable for tatami rooms, which was very helpful. It would be even better if check-out time were at 11:00 AM so we could relax a bit longer.

    Relax in a homely atmosphere.

    There is no luxurious service, but it was a cozy and homely accommodation. The dishes inspired by Hina dolls were particularly charming and delicious. I only used the Onsen in the cypress octagonal bathhouse. It was small but had soft and comfortable water. The private Onsen in the room was exceptional. The room itself was spacious, quiet, and allowed for a relaxing stay. I would love to visit again if given the chance.

    Relax and unwind.

    I visited for the first time in March. The special menu for the Doll's Festival was absolutely delicious, and I was impressed by the seasonal dishes. The Onsen and garden were as wonderful as ever. I've been here in summer, winter, and spring... next time, I’d love to visit in autumn!

    A very impressive Ryokan

    Pick-up service from Tendo Station is available, and it takes 5 minutes by car. They accommodated a sudden change in pick-up time, and upon arrival at the Stays, everyone greeted us with a smile. Even though we returned after 7 PM due to participating in a bus tour, the meal service was smooth. The staff are very friendly and the service is excellent. The Room was warm, well-cleaned, and it was a very comfortable one-night stay.

    Enjoyed the Onsen while gazing at the snow-covered garden. It was a relaxing escape from the busy daily life. The meals, featuring ingredients and seasonal flavors unique to Yamagata, were also delicious. I would love to visit again.

    I used it with my elderly parents. There are two types of hot springs, each with handrails, allowing them to bathe safely. Both dinner and breakfast were visually appealing and flavorful, allowing my parents to enjoy a satisfying time. The private bath in the room, which we used for the first time, was also good.

    The lack of excessive service allows for a relaxing stay, and the comfortable hospitality is wonderful. The temperature of the hot spring was quite high, so it would have been best if it could be adjusted with water.
