Both dinner and breakfast (I chose the Japanese set) were perfectly seasoned and very delicious. The conger eel fritters were especially outstanding. The after-bath ice cream, morning milk, and complimentary drinks were also plentiful, so I could enjoy them throughout the day. The amenities were well stocked too, including Sekkisei toner, emulsion, facial wash, and cleansing products, so there was no need to bring my own.

A harmonious blend of rich history and modern comfort
This is a historic Accommodation, yet the staff are full of energy, and operations from check-in to check-out are efficient with no wasted time. The seasonal cuisine is truly delicious, and getting to the various baths is an adventure—through maze-like corridors and, in some areas, even across a suspension bridge. It’s packed with excitement! You can have a wonderful stay just at Kikuya alone, making it an Accommodation you’ll want to visit again and again. Both check-in and check-out are well designed and smooth, so there’s no waiting—excellent! Thank you very much for taking such great care of us again.

We were extremely satisfied.
The staff’s polite language and thoughtful hospitality—from check-in and meal service to greetings in the hallways—were excellent, and we had a very comfortable stay. Although it seemed to have many guest rooms, the property was quiet, and we were glad we could use the private bath. Both dinner and breakfast were lavish with more than enough food, but everything was delicious so we finished almost all of it. We were too full to try the late-night soba service. There are sightseeing spots near the Ryokan, so the location is great as well—an Accommodation we would like to use again. Thank you very much.

Good value for the price, but...
Getting around the property takes time no matter what you do—bathing, dining, or anything else. The private baths are split between two areas, and two of them are located far from the main public bath, which can make checking availability a bit inconvenient. The public bath is also quite small, so it may not be ideal if your main purpose is to enjoy the Onsen. Meals follow the usual Kyoritsu Resort style.

It was absolutely wonderful—10/10!
I booked just three days before the busy Obon period on a whim, and chose this Accommodation simply because there was a Room available. I didn’t have any particular attachment to the town of Shuzenji, either. But wow! This Accommodation is amazing! First of all, the Facilities are excellent! The sliding door in the guest room rattled a little, but that’s the only thing I could possibly complain about. Everything—the building, the Room, and the baths—was spotless. At another place we stayed in April, mold in the open-air bath really bothered me, but here there was absolutely none. Wonderful! The meals weren’t extravagantly luxurious, but each dish was truly delicious—and surprisingly filling. My family and I were completely stuffed by the end! Because of that, we couldn’t eat the late-night soba noodles, which was such a shame. I also loved that drinks (including alcohol) were available until 9:30 PM. If it were open a bit later, it would be perfect… And all of the staff were friendly and welcoming with great hospitality. Just one small thing: our attendant seemed very busy and didn’t make much eye contact, so it was hard to place additional orders during dinner. That was my only issue—otherwise nothing to complain about! I feel lucky to have found an Accommodation this satisfying. I’d love to stay again someday!

A thoroughly satisfying Accommodation in every way
The classic, atmospheric interior and Room, the open-air bath that lets you feel at one with nature, the pleasant hospitality, and the carefully crafted meals—everything was flawless. We will definitely return.

Mostly satisfied
The meals, the Room, and the Onsen were all very satisfying. If I had to point out just two issues, though: 1) The Hotel’s adjacent parking area has far too few spaces, so we had to park in the second or third lot. I couldn’t shake the worry about possible break-ins or vandalism. 2) After completing check-in, there was no service such as escorting us to our Room or helping with luggage. The instructions were clear and we didn’t get lost, but since it feels more like a Ryokan than a Hotel, I would have appreciated being shown to the Room. Other than that, as mentioned above, we were very satisfied and would like to stay again.

We stayed right up to the last minute from check-in to check-out. Since the Shuzenji Onsen area itself doesn’t have many sightseeing spots, we focused on fully enjoying the Accommodation instead. There were plenty of staff members around the property, and it felt like an easy place to ask for help. We were also happy with the many complimentary services. The Room felt relatively new, and it was great that a full set of Sekkisei amenities was provided.

We enjoyed relaxing in the Onsen and savoring delicious meals.
I stayed for one night on May 5 during Golden Week—my third visit. Each time I stayed in a different type of Room, and all were comfortable. I scheduled dinner for 7:45 p.m., and while most guests were dining, I went to the large public bath and open-air bath; they were uncrowded, and it felt like having the spacious baths all to myself—very satisfying. The meals were beautifully presented and delicious. The “Mt. Fuji yokan” dessert was adorable and heartwarming. Although it’s a historic Accommodation, they always provide a late-night snack, and you can help yourself to drinks, which makes it fun and feels like great value—so whenever I stay in Shuzenji, this is my go-to place.

There are many different types of baths, and as an Onsen lover I really enjoyed them. The food was tasty overall, but I’d prefer slightly smaller portions if it meant higher quality.

A heartfelt Accommodation
The Room, the cuisine, the views, and all of the staff were wonderful—making our 1-night, 2-day stay extremely satisfying. We used to visit often more than ten years ago and were very pleased even then, but everything has been further refined. We were impressed by the renewed Room, the even more delicious meals, and the seamless operations from check-in to check-out. The thoughtful hospitality from the staff at both dinner and breakfast was also outstanding and made us feel truly comfortable. We had such a great time that we got carried away and caused trouble—we sincerely apologize for any inconvenience. Next time, we’re saying we’d like to stay at least two nights. Thank you very much for taking such good care of us; we truly appreciate it.

So disappointing.
I’ve stayed here many times over the past 15 years or so, but on my recent visit after a long break, I was disappointed. First, it was quite inconvenient having to use a key every time I crossed the bridge. The amenities were poor for the price. These days even a Business Hotel provides cleansing cream… It felt like we were expected to be satisfied just because there were lots of ice cream and drink machines. The service feels unbalanced. We booked two Rooms, and even in the cheaper one (around 30,000 yen), there wasn’t even cleansing cream. That’s unacceptable for an Accommodation of this level. Even in Rooms with a bath, you have to fill the tub yourself with hot water. The low step on the way across the bridge to the main building elevator is hard to see; I stumbled twice and think it could be dangerous for older guests. There are only two private open-air baths compared with the number of Rooms, so there is always a wait. They weren’t properly cleaned—there was quite a bit of hair left behind, which was unpleasant—and there were too many foreign guests with poor manners: the floor inside was soaking wet all the way to the entrance, and cold water had been left running at full blast in the bath area. I ended up catching a cold. The coffee area used to let you grind beans and drink from proper cups… Now it’s machine coffee in paper cups—like a convenience store—and it made me sad that they seem to cut corners where you can’t easily see it. It felt like Kikuya’s unique atmosphere is gradually disappearing. As for meals, even breakfast gratin was cold and set solid—I had to cut it with a knife—and at dinner I was surprised that even now the selectable menu options are still exactly like they used to be long ago. It was especially sad to see such a wonderful Accommodation with Kikuya’s history choosing quantity over quality. I think Kyoritsu Resort should study other Accommodations’ services more carefully. Most of the staff were kind and greeted us with smiles.

The service and the meals were outstanding! As for the food, it was among the best—easily one of the top one or two—across all Kyoritsu Resorts. We had an amazing two-day stay. Thank you very much!

Exploring the property is part of the fun.
Throughout the property, there are many spots that make you want to stop and take a look—it’s exciting. In particular, I found myself absorbed in reading about the Ryokan’s origins and historical notes such as Natsume Soseki’s stay. The courtyard and suspension bridge are also full of charm. There are many baths to choose from, and the four private baths were available with surprisingly little waiting. We stayed in a Room with a semi-open-air bath; at night, soaking in the Onsen while listening to the river and looking up at a sky full of stars was simply amazing. We will definitely stay again for anniversaries and other special occasions. Thank you very much.

This was a Business Hotel.
Traditional Ryokan Kikuya? Surprised upon arrival. This is a ryokan under the Kyoritsu Resort group. Just like other traditional establishments under "Star 0 Resorts," it’s all about appearances. 1. Footwear: Guests are required to place their shoes in lockers and manage the keys themselves. Staff were present in the spacious entrance but did nothing to assist. 2. Check-in: Staff took a long time to appear, and when they finally did, they just handed over another key. To reach the new building (not the old one), guests must cross a swaying iron suspension bridge—what happens if you're carrying luggage or if the weather is bad? 3. Room: Business Hotel style setup. Guests are expected to prepare tea, refill humidifiers, and even fill up bathwater themselves. While there were snacks provided, there wasn’t even a toothpick—guests have to eat with bare hands! No pamphlet detailing Kikuya's history was available in the room either. 4. Meals: The menu looked impressive on paper, but for dinner and breakfast on the following day, it was unclear if anything was freshly prepared in-house at all! Everything from appetizers to dessert was served all at once without care or ceremony—no festive sake or tea offerings either. 5. Bath: While relaxing enough, views from private baths showed not scenic streams but rather fencing around old building baths. Be cautious of any accommodation associated with "0XX Resort."

Everything is perfect.
This year has been full of events, and I visited for the first time to relax and rejuvenate. My impression was that everything was perfect, even moving. The Room was beautiful, functional, and very comfortable. The meals we were looking forward to were so delicious that they brought joy to us as food lovers. Especially the seasoning of the spiny lobster and the surprising creaminess of the crab miso. Everything else was also incredibly tasty. The attentiveness of the staff who served our meals was outstanding. Even though it was just a one-night stay, I went to the bath several times. The private bath where we could relax at our own pace was particularly wonderful. The amenities provided were high-quality and well-stocked. Although Shuzenji does not have many tourist spots, I feel like visiting "Kikuya" with every change of season. I definitely want to visit again next year. I'm grateful for my encounter with Kikuya. Thank you for your hospitality!

Step back in time to the Meiji and Taisho eras.
The lobby is located right above the mountain stream as you enter, and the interior feels like stepping back in time to the Meiji and Taisho eras—a truly charming Ryokan. We stayed in a detached cottage with our 7-month-old baby, who was thrilled to crawl around on the spacious tatami mats. The meals were incredibly delicious and beautifully presented. The natural hot spring bath can be quite hot as it is, so we recommend adjusting it with water and stirring before entering. There was unlimited ice cream and alcohol available, but these services seem to close by morning, so make sure to enjoy them the day before. Coffee appeared to be available anytime. They also had something similar to Yakult, which was great for digestion. The garden features koi fish that add a soothing touch to your stay. We also appreciated the thoughtful placement of stoves in the hallways for added comfort.

It was a very lovely accommodation.
I have stayed at Kyoritsu Resort several times before and was aware of its high quality, but this accommodation exceeded my expectations. The staff provided friendly and approachable service with warm smiles, making my stay very pleasant. I visited the lounge multiple times and enjoyed snacks, coffee milk, and probiotic drinks while spending a relaxing time with my family after a long while. The meals and onsen were also highly satisfying. This is an accommodation I will definitely visit again during my next trip to Shuzenji.

Favorite Accommodation
This was my third visit, and the second time staying in the Hanare Soan room. During my previous stay, I fell in love with the Hanare Soan room and immediately made a reservation for this visit. Last time, it featured a stone bath, but this time it had a cypress bath. The room layout was different as well, allowing me to enjoy a fresh experience during my stay. Unfortunately, it rained during my visit, so I had to skip my favorite open-air large bath and instead used the regular large bath and the private Iwato no Yu bath. Iwato no Yu is said to have the hottest water at Kikuya; however, there was a hose for adding cold water to adjust it to just the right temperature for bathing. Of course, I also soaked multiple times in the open-air bath attached to my room for ultimate relaxation. I spent luxurious moments strolling leisurely through the spacious facility or enjoying coffee at Soseki's Hermitage. The morning milk was as delicious as ever! For breakfast, I appreciated being able to choose Western-style dishes since I'm more of a bread person—it left me completely satisfied. I loved it so much that I ended up making another reservation during this stay. Someday I'd like to enjoy an extended multiple night stay here and fully indulge in its comfort—that's currently one of my dreams!

Stay in a Traditional Warehouse
The room is indeed spacious with an impressively high ceiling. Amenities are well-equipped. However, personally, I felt a bit confined as the first-floor windows were covered with shoji screens, blocking the view outside. The second floor was fine. It’s also quite far from the main building. While it’s quiet, you have to step outside on the way, which can be cold—though it might feel just right after a bath. Overall, I’m satisfied. Next time, I’d like to try staying in a different room.

It was a lovely accommodation with historical charm.
I stayed here to celebrate a birthday. The building has a charming historical feel, and the room was newly renovated, clean, and comfortable. The Japanese-style courtyard with a pond, antique glass windows, a large old clock, and vintage photos of the accommodation made it feel like a delightful time slip, offering both relaxation and enjoyment. The meals, both dinner and breakfast, were delicious, luxurious, and very satisfying! The free drinks, including alcohol, and the late-night snack service were also a pleasant surprise! There were many Onsen options, including private ones, which were fantastic and truly relaxing. The staff were kind and attentive, making it a wonderful trip. This has become an accommodation I would love to stay at again when I have the chance. Thank you very much!

This was my second visit.
Stayed here in January and decided to visit again. The accommodation is relatively easy to access from Tokyo, and I was very satisfied with the meals and private bath, which led me to return. This time as well, both were excellent. The staff were kind, and I was able to relax and recover from summer fatigue. If I may make one small request, having Nespresso coffee in the room would enhance the experience of relaxing in the room, including enjoying the private bath. I look forward to visiting again!

Landmark at the Entrance to Shuzenji Onsen
I stayed one night in the annex “Mizu no Kataribe.” My Room was in the farthest of the three riverside buildings lined up in a row, so I ended up walking quite a bit within the property. The Room itself is very compact and the Facility is sufficient, but the riverside semi-open-air bath feels less open due to bamboo blinds, a privacy window, and a waist-high wall. As a result, the living area inside is rather dim and needs lighting even during the day. Given that you can see things like the parking lot across the river, it’s understandable—but I would appreciate a bit more natural light. The semi-open-air bath fills with a preset amount of hot water at the push of a button; it was too hot to enter as-is, so I added cold water as needed. At the main building’s public bath, both the indoor bath and open-air bath were miraculously empty, so I could relax—though neither is very large, so it may feel crowded depending on timing. Also, while they say the private baths are available 24 hours, guests staying at Mizu no Kataribe should note that the suspension bridge between it and the main building closes late at night. The meals were excellent in both quality and quantity. I also appreciated that dinner’s aperitif was juice rather than alcohol. Breakfast came with many small side dishes that went perfectly with rice—I was full from early morning. I was curious about Kyoritsu’s signature late-night soba as well, but after dinner I wasn’t hungry enough to walk all that way from my Room this time. Overall, everything in shared areas was well maintained: lounge drinks were always stocked; meal service never stalled; and there were no issues like wet floors in the large-bath changing area. From check-in to meals to checkout next morning, I could really feel how many staff members supported my stay behind (and sometimes in front of) scenes. Maintaining an older building to modern service standards must be challenging, but I hope this Accommodation continues to be there as a landmark Onsen entrance right in front of Shuzenji Onsen bus stop.

The rice is amazing.
Private room with open-air bath and meals included (breakfast and dinner). The quality of the food is noticeably poor. Ingredients seem subpar, and the rice appears to be stored rice rather than fresh harvest, which is quite obvious. Most guests appear to be from Chinese-speaking regions; perhaps many are not particular about taste? However, even international travelers who stay at various accommodations would likely notice the lack of quality. Breakfast was barely touched by most guests, and I also left most of mine uneaten. Dinner included sashimi that seemed like thawed vacuum-packed fish—possibly bigeye tuna—and pike conger that was dry with an unusual texture. Perhaps the central kitchen's production level at Kyoritsu Resort is low? The food was so unappetizing that it overshadowed everything else about the stay. Was it different in the past? Overall, I feel this accommodation offers low value for its price point.

It was very comfortable.
This was my second visit. Four years ago, I stayed at the newly opened Mizuno Bettei. This time, I found a great Plan for the most popular Hanare Souan, which I had always wanted to stay in, and was able to Reserve it. As soon as I entered the Room, I was impressed by its traditional Japanese house design and decor! The nostalgic atmosphere of the old yet charming setting was very soothing. The private open-air bath in the Room was too hot at first, but when I contacted the front desk, they responded immediately. After that, I could enjoy a relaxing Onsen at just the right temperature. Although we didn’t use any private baths this time, we visited the open-air large public bath twice—once after dinner and once early in the morning. Both times we were lucky enough to have it all to ourselves and could relax completely. The drink corner with alcoholic options and areas like Soseki’s Hermitage showed thoughtful hospitality everywhere. The milk served in the morning was incredibly delicious. Since we usually eat bread for breakfast at home, being able to choose a Western-style breakfast here is definitely a high Point for us! It came with salad, soup, yogurt—so filling! We had an extremely satisfying two days here. I’ve already Completed my next Reservation. Looking forward to staying again!

Highly Satisfied
The onsen quality was excellent, with a variety of options from large public baths to private baths. The private baths were available without reservation and free of charge, which was very satisfying. Thanks to this, I could enjoy multiple relaxing soaks and had an onsen-filled experience. Additionally, complimentary services such as alcohol, soft drinks, ice cream, Shizuoka oden, and late-night ramen made the stay even more enjoyable. There were also plenty of chairs and relaxing spaces throughout the accommodation, allowing for a comfortable and leisurely time. As an Onsen Sommelier myself, the combination of abundant onsen experiences and excellent services has made this a place I would love to revisit!

Enjoy Your Time at the Accommodation
I stayed for one night during the peak of summer heat. The temperature was so high that outdoor activities were unsafe, so I spent more time at the accommodation. There are various onsen options and a well-stocked drink service. The facility has relaxing chairs and tables in many areas, allowing guests to enjoy their time not only in their room but also throughout the accommodation. It is a place where you can spend luxurious moments doing nothing while listening to the sound of the river and admiring the greenery. I opted for both dinner and breakfast, which were visually appealing, delicious, perfectly portioned, and highly satisfying.

Enjoyed a relaxing one-night stay with Onsen.
The main purpose of this stay was to spend a quiet night as a couple in a Room with an Onsen. The Room perfectly met our expectations, with delicious meals and the convenience of strolling around the town—everything was satisfying. What made us especially happy was the 24-hour café. We visited multiple times to enjoy cold brew coffee and herbal tea. Whether reading in the café or taking herbal tea back to the Room, we thoroughly enjoyed our relaxing one-night stay.
