    The bath was excellent.

The baths were excellent. In addition to the indoor bath and open-air bath in the Ryokan, it was a great bonus that guests staying at Rohan can also use the day-use open-air bath located right across the street. This open-air bath offers wonderful space and views; it was drizzling, but that only added to the atmosphere, and I was very satisfied. As this is a mid-sized Ryokan, meals are served in the dining area, but even though it was busy, the staff brought each dish at just the right time, so we could enjoy our meal comfortably. I ended up eating more than I intended. The Facility shows its age, but it is clean and left a good impression. It’s about five minutes into the mountains from Ureshino Onsen, and we happened to see fireflies during our stay, allowing us to relax quietly and take our time.

    A Quiet Onsen Accommodation

Until now, Saga Prefecture had just been a place I passed through, and I had never stayed there for sightseeing. This time, I decided to finally visit Saga for the first time, searched for an Accommodation in Ureshino Onsen with great Reviews, and chose this one. It’s in a quiet area, and the Onsen is absolutely amazing. There is also a day-use Onsen Facility on-site, with six baths in total for men and women. The open-air bath is wonderful—so relaxing you’ll want to stay in forever. This time we stayed in a Japanese-Western Room with a private hinoki bath. The Room was very clean, and the window glass was unbelievably clear! I didn’t even realize there was glass there (I thought it was open) and almost walked into it. It was spotless! Dinner and breakfast were both delicious and just the right amount. This is an Accommodation that makes you want to come back again.

    The hospitality was outstanding!

The plumbing Facilities felt outdated, and I was a bit disappointed that there was no facial cleanser at the open-air bath, but the service was outstanding and I was able to relax. Everyone provided truly excellent hospitality, and I had a comfortable, pleasant stay—I was very satisfied. Thank you very much.

    Wonderful Accommodation

The meals—especially the ingredients—were excellent. The service was truly kind and heartwarming. The Onsen was gentle, and I used it many times. The building is simple, tasteful, and not overly showy in its design. It was very quiet and relaxing. Thank you very much.

    Every year

We stay here every year in early spring, but this year we found ourselves wondering whether we would come back next year. When we arrived, it was raining, but no one came out to greet us. We had to unload and carry our luggage ourselves while it got wet. The meals didn’t feel any different from previous years. In fact, even dishes that would have been delicious if served hot were already set out from the start. The only items brought out later were sashimi and meat. Since most of the food is served all at once, I don’t think a printed menu is necessary if the staff explains each dish. Isn’t the menu meant to help serve courses in the proper order? This year left us with a lot of questions. We’ve been coming to this Accommodation for a long time and have seen improvements before, but with last year’s staff replaced, this year was disappointing.

    Once you visit,

As thoughts come to mind, from my first impression, the young female staff were excellent. The bath was pleasantly soft and nice. However, there was no bag for laundry. They had one at Taishoya. The meals were, well… so-so. Dinner was typical of an Onsen Accommodation. The ingredients may be high-end, but nothing really impressed me. Breakfast felt quite different from “refined” overall and was very lightly seasoned. Some items were extremely salty—was that meant to balance it? I found wilted red knotweed from dinner on the floor during the evening meal. I believe the main pleasures of an Accommodation are the Onsen and the food, but this felt like a once-in-a-lifetime experience in the extreme: going once is enough for me. I will not return. I am not writing this to damage their reputation. These are my honest impressions—thank you for your understanding.

We were very satisfied and would love to stay again!

This Accommodation fulfilled everything I was hoping for: relaxing in the Onsen and enjoying delicious meals. The Onsen quality and temperature were perfect. The food was tasty and served in just the right portions. I could also take my time and enjoy coffee in the lounge. It was exactly my kind of Accommodation. I’d love to visit again!

    Anniversary Plan

I booked the Anniversary Plan to coincide with my wife’s birthday. We were very satisfied with the bath and dinner, and my wife was delighted with the whole cake and champagne. We were able to enjoy a quiet, relaxing birthday celebration. One request: I would appreciate it if the in-Room amenities (two sets of towels, cotton swabs, etc.) could be a bit more fully stocked.

    It felt disappointin...

It felt disappointing for the price and the Review. Perhaps due to the Room layout (the “Kajika” Room), the heating didn’t reach the whole space, and it was far too cold in areas like the toilet. The dessert was changed from white sesame pudding to mango pudding (if it was going to be changed, I think we should have been informed in advance). At the breakfast buffet, natto was also out of stock… These are small things, but aside from the signature tofu, the meal selection was on a Business Hotel level.. The dining area had zero sense of privacy—no partitions, conversations could be heard clearly—and it wasn’t relaxing. The staff were friendly, which was a relief. Overall, it was an Accommodation lacking in taste. I would appreciate it if you could provide more stylish options for shampoo, conditioner, and toiletries.

Perfect for bath lovers! Enjoy to the fullest!

10 minutes from Ureshino Onsen town, nestled deep in the mountains with views of tea fields, is the charming Shiibasanso by the stream. Perfect for onsen lovers! Why? Because there are four baths across two ryokans. Especially "Shiiba no Yu" open-air bath, which is spacious, impeccably clean, and well-maintained. Enjoyed both night and morning while listening to the sounds of the valley. Dinner was a delightful experience with beautifully presented dishes typical of a ryokan. Fresh sashimi and high-quality Saga beef grilled on a ceramic plate were highlights. The staff were kind and made dinner enjoyable. This was my second stay here. Last year’s breakfast featured various side dishes served in small Arita porcelain bowls that were visually pleasing as well; however, this time it felt more like an ordinary buffet style. Still, this is such a wonderful onsen accommodation that I absolutely love it! Looking forward to staying again soon!

    The room and bath we...

The room and bath were spacious and impeccably clean, the meals were delicious, and we found ourselves enjoying drinks a bit too much. The staff were kind, allowing us to share a pleasant and relaxing time as a family. We had such a wonderful stay—thank you very much! However, one small downside was that the comforter felt slightly too warm, causing us to wake up during the night. Despite this, it was an accommodation I would recommend to friends.

A beautiful Onsen for radiant skin and a gourmet Accommodation amidst nature

I previously visited an accommodation in the town of Ureshino Onsen, so this time I chose Taishoya Shiibasanso, located in nature. The open-air hallway leading to the room allowed me to feel the breeze as I arrived. The room was spacious, and the Ureshino tea provided in the room had a rich flavor similar to gyokuro green tea, which was so delicious that I enjoyed several refills. At the front desk shop, there were various teas with descriptions available, so I purchased some of the tea from my room as a souvenir. During autumn foliage season, you can enjoy views of maple leaves from the open-air bath while listening to sounds of rivers, birdsong, and insects—offering a sense of freedom surrounded by nature. The onsen water had a smooth texture and was at just the right temperature for soaking comfortably for an extended time. It was truly an excellent onsen experience. The washing area is thoughtfully arranged for privacy and does not feel intrusive even while soaking. The yukata provided were also considerate; since they can get damp after bathing or sweating during meals, replacement yukatas in various sizes were conveniently placed in drawers—a thoughtful touch. Dinner was delightful with fresh vegetables, fish, Saga beef dishes prepared beautifully using seasonal ingredients. The chef's menu included detailed descriptions of ingredients and cooking methods; dishes were served at a perfect pace for complete satisfaction. Breakfast featured a buffet with high-quality Japanese cuisine options including delicious sesame sauce tofu made from onsen water. I also visited "Shiiba no Yu," located within the same premises but reserved exclusively for guests between 9:00 AM and 11:00 AM. Its spacious open-air bath allowed me to enjoy peaceful morning moments at leisure. Thank you very much to all staff members who warmly welcomed us! I look forward to visiting again soon to enjoy Saga’s exquisite cuisine and exceptional onsen once more!

The Onsen and staff were excellent.

Stayed at an accommodation near Ureshino Onsen, offering a peaceful retreat with views of mountains and rivers. During the summer holiday season, there were many families and couples, but I don't recall seeing international travelers. Before dinner, I visited an open-air onsen located away from the accommodation. The water quality was excellent, providing a relaxing experience. After enjoying dinner at the dining area, I went to bed early as I was tired. The futon was laid out during dinner time—a thoughtful touch. Woke up early in the morning and enjoyed the hinoki bath in the room to its fullest. Breakfast was served buffet-style; the yudofu (hot tofu) stood out as particularly delicious, so much so that I had seconds. However, apart from yudofu, neither dinner nor breakfast left a strong impression food-wise. A highlight of my stay was definitely how attentive and considerate the staff were throughout my visit. Being an accommodation located in the mountains meant higher humidity levels and frequent sightings of insects—something to keep in mind for future guests considering staying here!

    As expected of Ureshino Onsen.

This is my second visit to Ureshino Onsen. The quality of the onsen remains excellent. However, at Taishokan Shiki no Yu and Shiibasanso Shiiba no Yu, it was extremely crowded during summer vacation with many families with children, including infants who had just stopped wearing diapers. It felt uncomfortable, and I couldn't relax before leaving quickly. At Taishokan Taki no Yu and Shiiba no Yu Yama no Yu, I didn't see any infants. However, when an onsen accommodation allows infants, it tends to give off the impression of a public bathhouse. I suggest either increasing private family baths or limiting access at least in Shiibasanso to children above elementary school age for a more relaxing experience. As for the meals, having enjoyed Kyoto kaiseki cuisine the day before in Kyoto made the appetizers and starters seem less visually appealing by comparison; however, overall they were deliciously simple dishes made with local ingredients. Ureshino Onsen has not been heavily influenced by inbound tourism yet; its station is still clean and remains a peaceful retreat for Japanese visitors.

It was an accommodation that makes you want to visit again.

We chose Shiiba Sanso to celebrate a special occasion with my wife, enjoying Onsen and meals in a peaceful location away from the city's hustle and bustle. We were able to achieve our purpose comfortably, returning home with delightful memories and satisfaction. The reception at check-in and guidance to the room were courteous. We headed straight to the large public bath and open-air bath, where towels were readily available, and both the changing rooms and baths were impeccably clean. Afterward, we cooled down with complimentary soft drinks, brought coffee back to our room, and relaxed until dinner. The room was spacious, clean, and featured a hinoki bath large enough for two people to enjoy comfortably. Dinner was a Saga Beef Kaiseki course meal. As expected, each dish was meticulously prepared and served at just the right timing so we could leisurely enjoy it along with some sake. The staff maintained an appropriate distance while providing necessary explanations about the dishes; they seemed attentive throughout the meal service without causing any stress when assistance was needed. Their warm hospitality allowed us to spend a wonderful time together—especially memorable was the Saga Beef grilled on ceramic plates; it was exquisite! Breakfast offered an unusual buffet style for this Accommodation Fee range but allowed us to choose small portions of various dishes including tofu varieties for comparison—a delightful experience indeed! We enjoyed another morning bath before checkout while leisurely reading newspapers provided after breakfast. Next time we visit, we look forward to reserving a different room type!

    It was amazing!!

The bath was excellent as expected, but the meals were also amazing! The colorful appetizers paired perfectly with drinks. From start to finish, including the dessert, everything was delicately and meticulously prepared. The staff member in charge was very pleasant and attentive. There were two large public baths, both of which were almost like private use, allowing for a luxurious experience. The room was spacious, and from the beautifully polished windows, we could see a waterfall. A Japanese-style room, bedroom, toilet, and private bath were connected by a wide hallway that also had a small kitchenette area where we could relax as if at home. Additionally, we used Ureshino Station on the West Kyushu Shinkansen this time; there was Shuttle Service available for both arrival and departure, making transportation very comfortable.

    A Memorable and Wonderful Accommodation

We were completely satisfied with the meals, room, and Onsen. The meals, especially while referring to the chef's menu, allowed us to appreciate the ingredients and attention to detail while enjoying delicious food and great conversation. Although adjusting the temperature of the room's bath took some time, we were able to enjoy a relaxing soak. I’m glad my family also enjoyed their stay.

An Onsen you'll want to visit again.

A serene accommodation with a tranquil design and the sound of a mountain stream, featuring an Onsen. Enjoyed a lively stay with three generations, including my son's family. Discovered fireflies during the beautiful season of fresh greenery. The breakfast with terraced rice and hot tofu was so delicious that I ended up eating too much!

    Comfortable Stay

We visited during the firefly season, but since the weather had been slightly cooler, there were fewer fireflies. Even so, we were very satisfied as we could see them flickering from our Room. The cleaning of the open-air bath here is top-notch.

We look forward to welcoming you next time.

Although it was a bit challenging to reach due to heavy rain, we were able to relax in the room along the river at the far end. The view from the Room was stunning and truly rejuvenating for both mind and body. The staff, mostly young, provided pleasant and attentive service. Despite encountering various accidents this time, we are grateful for their thoughtful support. Since we couldn't fully enjoy sightseeing in Saga due to the heavy rain, we hope to visit again on another occasion.

The view from the open-air bath was spectacular.

In front of the Ryokan, there is a small stream, and an open-air bath is set up beside it. I stayed during the season when fresh greenery was starting to flourish, which was soothing to the eyes and extremely satisfying.

    Mountain Lodge

I stayed for one night from March 30th, and the temperature was -1°C. The pathways to each room were outdoors, making it very cold to move around. Inside the room, the hallway area had no heating, so it was chilly, and I had to shiver while going to the sink or bath. However, the Onsen itself was good.

    The weather was not ...

The weather was not very good on the day of arrival, so the room felt a bit dark at first. However, the next morning was sunny, and the greenery visible from the room and the sound of birds were refreshing and pleasant. The facility felt slightly old but was well-cleaned. I enjoyed using three baths, including those at sister accommodations, which left my skin feeling smooth. Due to the rich natural surroundings, impressions may vary depending on weather and climate, but overall it was a great accommodation. Thank you very much!
