    Couples’ Trip

    This Accommodation has a charming, hidden-retreat feel, and the staff’s hospitality is outstanding. I was told that many of the team are younger and that there is no proprietress, so everyone takes full responsibility for providing attentive service—and it truly showed in their thoughtful care. The day before our stay, I asked whether we could park our car at the property to explore the Onsen town before check-in and after check-out, and they kindly replied, “Of course,” which left a great impression even before we arrived. The meals were generous in portion size, gently seasoned with local ingredients, and perfectly explained—nothing to fault. We also enjoyed pleasant conversation with the dining staff during our meal. We enjoyed the complimentary drinks in the lounge after check-in, again after soaking in the Onsen several times, and even in the courtyard at night—fully savoring an extraordinary escape while enjoying this Ryokan to the fullest. There were also services that women will appreciate, which made my wife very happy. We were able to spend truly irreplaceable time together as a couple and make wonderful memories of our trip to Gero Onsen. This is definitely an Accommodation we want to return to—we will be back for sure.

    The wild sweetfish was excellent.

    This was our second stay, and just like last time, the food was absolutely delicious and we were very satisfied. The natural ayu and the Hida beef nigiri we ordered separately were outstanding. My spouse and I both love ayu, and we felt it’s well worth coming every year at this time just to eat this ayu. Last time we stayed in a newer Suite Room and it was excellent, but since there is no elevator, getting up to the 3rd floor (effectively like the 4th) is tough after having a few drinks. So this time we chose a Suite Room on the 2nd floor. It felt a bit older, but overall we were still quite satisfied with this Room. We were very happy with the open-air bath in the Room, but as for the large public bath—perhaps because there are more female guests—we ended up using the smaller one both this time and last time. To be honest, for an Onsen in Gero it felt slightly underwhelming. (I’m sure the larger one is probably much better.) Still, I suppose it can’t be helped. A lounge staff member recommended the newer Suite Room on the 2nd floor (“Tamayura”). It’s a bit more expensive, but maybe we’ll try that Room next time. In any case, we’d love to visit again to enjoy your wonderful cuisine. Thank you for taking care of us.

    An Accommodation you’ll want to return to again and again.

    We stayed here hoping to relax as a family of four with our two adult children. From the warm welcome in the parking lot to the welcome drink and escort to our Room, we were treated with outstanding hospitality. Every detail—from the entrance hall and corridors to the Room interior—showed great care and exceeded what we had seen on the website in advance. The large public bath is not huge, but since the number of guests is limited, it was more than sufficient. We also enjoyed being able to soak in Onsen anytime in the bath in our Room, which was wonderful for our family. The meals reflected the chef’s dedication (he is from Shiga Prefecture), and every dish was a delight for both the eyes and the palate. We also appreciated having time to unwind as a family in the lounge with drinks, making this a trip that left all of us completely satisfied. What we recommend most about this Accommodation is that every staff member provides genuinely pleasant service. In addition to taking care of what we needed, they entertained us with friendly, witty conversation. This is an Accommodation we would love to visit again and again as a couple or with family. Thank you for such a wonderful time.

    Your First Trip to Gero Onsen

    I treated my wife and daughter to our once-a-year trip. At my daughter’s request, we chose Gero Onsen! They were satisfied with everything—meals, baths, and service. We also received a call in advance, and the phone support was very pleasant.

    The perfect getaway for couples

    We stayed at Tamayura this time, and the spacious open-air bath attached to our Room and the overall atmosphere were outstanding. In addition, the private open-air bath “Sora” was wonderful, allowing us to enjoy a truly relaxing time as a couple. Dinner was delicious, and the attendant (Ms. K) who took care of us provided excellent explanations of each dish and impeccable timing with the service. Even at departure the next day, Ms. K kindly came all the way to our car to see us off—perfect hospitality from start to finish. My wife is already saying she wants to stay again, so we’ve placed it at the very top of our list of Accommodations we want to revisit as a couple.

    To celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary.

    I had always dreamed of a private open-air bath in the Room, so I planned a trip to Gero and stayed at Miyako. From the moment I arrived at the Accommodation, I received warm, attentive service and clear explanations throughout. Having an open-air bath in the Room allowed me to relax and enjoy it at my own pace. Dinner featured many wonderful, carefully prepared dishes, and I was completely satisfied. Breakfast also offered a wide variety of items, with a choice of Western or Japanese style, which was great. Thank you for celebrating our 25th anniversary with us. I would love to stay again!

    A truly worthwhile Accommodation to visit!

    My first time in Gero Onsen. After debating whether to stay at a large Hotel, I chose this Accommodation—and it was absolutely the right decision. The property makes the most of its grounds, with several private open-air Onsen baths (with showers), and the courtyard is also beautifully maintained, making for a truly pleasant stay. From the warm welcome starting at the parking lot to the relaxing lobby and the Room interior (the entryway is spacious, and the cute decorations placed throughout are charming), it offered a level of satisfaction unlike any Hotel I’ve stayed at before. And even the private dining rooms were designed with an appealing, non-uniform character. The meals were truly outstanding in both presentation and taste! Dishes beautifully arranged using elements like Chinese lantern plants and bamboo leaves! I’d love to visit again in another season.

    A very relaxing Accommodation

    I happened to find the most recently renovated Room available, so I made a Reservation. It was a beautifully clean and calming Room, and the open-air bath in the Room was spacious enough for two adults to stretch out comfortably. The layout from the washbasin to the shower to the open-air bath was also excellent and very easy to use. The bath temperature was just right, and I loved being able to slip in anytime. All of the staff greeted us with warm smiles, which truly made me feel at ease. Everyone was consistently friendly, and I felt that this is what creates such a wonderful atmosphere throughout the Accommodation. There were thoughtful touches as well—such as a small pouch and amenities gift for female guests—and not just one but three kinds of sweets in the Room. With access to the lounge too, I think it’s an ideal Accommodation for relaxing at your own pace. The meals were delicious, and I was genuinely impressed by how creative they were—full of ideas you don’t often find elsewhere! Overall, I felt there was outstanding taste and refinement in every dish; even though I ate my fill, it never felt heavy. This has become an Accommodation I would love to visit again.

    I stayed in the Hagakure Room with an open-air rock bath. The lobby, garden, and Room all had a wonderful atmosphere, and I felt the staff’s service was excellent. Meals were served in a semi-private dining area, and I enjoyed delicious food in a calm setting. That said, speaking frankly, for elderly guests with mobility issues, a fall in the bathroom could be life-threatening, so it was disappointing that there were no handrails for getting in and out of the bathtub. There were no handrails at the public bath, private bath, or the Room’s open-air bath, and in particular the approach to the Room’s open-air bath was difficult. I’m sharing this feedback in case it is helpful.

    Simply wonderful.

    We stayed for two nights, and “wonderful” says it all. The Onsen, the meals, and the service were all excellent, and we were truly satisfied. Every meal was delicious, but we were especially moved by the chef’s thoughtfulness at dinner on the second night. We are also grateful to the attendant who passed along our casual comment to the chef. The attendants provided attentive, considerate service throughout, making us feel like honored guests. We’ve already decided to return in a different season. We also recommend the beauty of the courtyard lit up at dusk.

    Wedding Anniversary

    It became a wonderful memory for our 40th wedding anniversary. The bath in our Room was spacious and amazing. We could also use the lounge for free, and the dishes were beautifully prepared with a Hina Doll Festival theme—everything was delicious. For breakfast, each of us could choose either Japanese or Western style, so we were happy to enjoy both. This is for women only, but we also received amenities in a small drawstring pouch, and it was nice to be able to choose a yukata. There was also samue loungewear in the Room, which I personally appreciated. Since it was our anniversary, there was a surprise gift of wine waiting in the Room. Thank you very much for your thoughtful hospitality. It was also great that we could walk to Gassho Village nearby for sightseeing. On our way back, you drove us to the Chaplin statue, and we enjoyed strolling around the Onsen town area. Just one thing: since moving around required using stairs only, it felt a bit tough for elderly guests with sore legs... but overall we were very satisfied with everything. Thank you very much.

    I love how the dishes are presented.

    This is our fourth visit because we especially love the dinner—not only for its great taste, but also for the beautiful presentation and service. As for the bath (3 points), we checked in first to make a Reservation for the private bath, but unfortunately our preferred time slot was already fully booked.

    It was far worse than just “not great.”

    No yukata were provided in the Room, and having to go to the lobby to pick them up was inconvenient. The Room itself was average, but the amenities and complimentary snacks were clearly disappointing. The bath was not free-flowing; it was just a standard bath, and the water was dirty and not clean. As for the meals, it was nowhere near a “Hida beef feast”—everything was very ordinary, with nothing impressive at all. My daughter seemed reasonably full, but the portions were insufficient for an adult man. Breakfast starting at 8:00 a.m. is too late to be acceptable. When I asked for 7:30 a.m., I was told they could accommodate it only if both guests chose the same set—Western or Japanese... That level of response felt like a budget Ryokan. I have also stayed at Suifuen across the street, and Suifuen is definitely better. This Ryokan is not one I would ever return to. Honestly, it was very disappointing.

    I’d love to stay here again next time.

    It was probably my first time staying in Gero, so I wasn’t sure where to stay. I chose this property because it had great reviews and an open-air bath in the Room. The Room was spacious, the service was excellent, and the open-air bath was wonderful. The meals were also very delicious. The private open-air bath was great as well. For women only, we also received amenities in a cute drawstring pouch. We could choose our yukata, enjoy a variety of drinks with the free drink service, and even had some snacks. We were able to relax completely. Thank you very much. Next time, I’d like to stay in a different Room as well.

    Top-rated satisfaction!

    The Room was perfect, with underfloor heating, a private open-air bath, and an exceptionally comfortable bed. Dinner was an authentic kaiseki course lasting just under two hours—worth well over 20,000 yen in Tokyo. In addition, the basement bar counter offered a wide selection of alcohol and snacks, all free of charge. Above all, the staff’s hospitality and genuine care were outstanding. I would definitely like to visit again!

    This is my third stay.

    Once again, we stayed in a detached guest room with a private open-air bath, and it was wonderful. Even though it was a weekend and the place was quite busy, we were shown to our Room with almost no waiting. Our last visit was three years ago, so there have been various changes after renovations. There’s now a small lounge, a relaxing courtyard on the way to the large public bath, and even new detached Rooms. It has become even more appealing. What I find most attractive about this Accommodation is: (1) the meals, (2) the Onsen, (3) the Taisho-era romantic atmosphere in the decor, and (4) the soothing tranquility. Despite how many guests there were, our Room was quiet and the building itself felt calm, so we could truly relax. Dinner featured plenty of Hida beef, but there were also solid options beyond that such as appetizers and sashimi. Still, the portions were huge—older guests may not be able to finish everything. I barely managed to. We also used a private bath; it was an excellent large rock bath—big enough that you could almost swim in it. However, I did notice a slight chemical (disinfectant) smell. That may be unavoidable. The open-air bath in the Room had almost no odor. This may have been just by chance this time, but it felt like there were more younger guests than before. In past visits I remember seeing more middle-aged and older guests like myself; thinking that younger people are now drawn to this Accommodation too somehow made me happy. There were two points that concerned me. First: there was no staff member at the entrance of the dining area to guide us—even when we called out for someone. I understand staffing can be difficult these days, but I would appreciate a bit more attention. Second: in the new lounge area, used glasses were often left sitting on tables for quite some time. It’s otherwise a great service, but in that state it’s hard to relax and doesn’t leave a good impression. Even with those concerns overall we were very satisfied. When we come back to Gero again, we will definitely stay here again.

    The Room was a detac...

    The Room was a detached traditional Japanese house, and it had so much character—complete with a kotatsu, living area, and sliding fusuma doors—that it felt like stepping back in time. But what impressed me most was the quality of the Onsen water. The ceramic-style bath and the rock bath are set at different temperatures, so you can alternate between them and really feel the difference. It exceeded my expectations in every way; as someone with neuralgia, it was unbelievably soothing. That said, a couple of inconveniences were that there was nowhere in the Room to dry bath towels, and the stock of mineral water in the refrigerator was limited. As for the meals, both the taste and portion size were just right—I was very satisfied. Dinner at an Onsen Accommodation is often so plentiful that I can’t finish it, but this was perfect. Overall, I was extremely satisfied, and this is a Ryokan I’d like to visit every year.

    We stayed in the detached Room, Amaoto. We were completely satisfied with everything—the Room, the bath, and the meals. In particular, the staff’s service during meals (their explanations and conversation) was truly excellent. We had a wonderful time. If you’re going to Gero, this is the Accommodation to choose.

    The Best Accommodation

    During the latter half of the New Year holidays, we visited Gero Onsen for the first time and chose this accommodation after reading reviews and looking at photos. From the moment we entered the nostalgic building that retains the charm of a traditional Japanese house, it was wonderful! The furniture and decor were exquisite, making it feel like an art museum. The lounge offered free drinks and snacks, with plenty of books available, which delighted my book-loving husband. The courtyard view from the lounge featured a light snow scene, adding to the New Year atmosphere. The onsen was slightly hot but warmed us up perfectly even in the outdoor bath during midwinter. The meals included festive New Year dishes as well as intricate creative cuisine that impressed us visually first! Every dish was incredibly delicious and left us fully satisfied. Breakfast was not a buffet but served in a private room where we enjoyed heartwarming dishes at our own pace until we were full. Since it's located slightly away from the station, we used their shuttle service; on our way back, they kindly dropped us off at an onsen town where we enjoyed shopping and sightseeing until our train departure time. True to its name, this accommodation allowed our family to relax peacefully together. Thank you very much!

    It was comfortable.

    Suite with Open-Air Bath [Itoyu] Japanese-Western Twin Room was used. The accommodation date was for the second newest guest room. - Clean guest room - Spacious wet area - Refa hair dryer and straightener were convenient to use, and the straightener helped reduce luggage, which was appreciated - The open-air bath is spacious enough for two adults to fit comfortably The meals were also excellent.

    New Year

    We stayed at Kazete Mari Accommodation on January 3rd as a family of four. We deeply appreciated the heartfelt hospitality and thoughtful care, allowing us to enjoy a relaxing time. The meals were beautifully presented with creative touches and were absolutely delicious. Thank you for the wonderful dining experience. While enjoying the Onsen with a view of the lightly snow-covered scenery, we were able to unwind from the busyness of the year-end season. Thank you very much for everything.     Everything, including the onsen, meals, and atmosphere, was excellent. What left the biggest impression on us was the service provided by the staff. Her natural smile and pleasant demeanor were truly comforting. She was a lovely woman, and while I initially thought my impression might be influenced because I am a man, my wife shared the same feelings. This experience made me realize how much a ryokan can change depending on its staff. Thank you so much for your heartfelt hospitality. Next time, we would love to visit via train travel. This was our first time at Gero Onsen, but we’ve decided that we will only stay at Miyako from now on. There are many highly-rated reviews for this place, and now we completely understand why.     Comfortable space

    Thank you for providing a relaxing time. We were satisfied with everything—staff, cuisine, bath, building, interior design, and service. As expected of Gero, there were four private open-air baths to enjoy. The meals had a gentle and delicious taste perfect for our generation, and we finished every bite. Gifu's food and sake are delightful everywhere we go. This is an accommodation we would love to visit repeatedly if it were closer.

    It was an accommodation with delightful hospitality!

    Upon arriving at the parking lot, the staff came to greet us. Check-in was done while enjoying the view of a beautiful garden, and the entire accommodation had a calm, traditional Japanese atmosphere. Every staff member provided polite and pleasant service. The drink service in the lounge was also delightful. Moreover, the cuisine was absolutely exceptional. Choosing this accommodation was truly a great decision.

    It was an excellent accommodation. I was able to relax. The experience matched the online videos perfectly, and the autumn leaves in the garden were beautiful and stunning. Additionally, the price was reasonable, yet the meals were great. The room also had an open-air bath, making it a highly recommended onsen accommodation.
