    I felt the need for tranquility.

    After reading everyone's reviews, I finally had the chance to visit Ishiba. The serene and elegant building was truly exciting, but unfortunately, the room attendant lacked composure. While relaxing in the room, they entered abruptly without notice, opened the closet without permission, and during dinner attempted to clear plates while we were still eating—this was quite surprising. Finding blood-stained pajamas in the room was absolutely unacceptable.

    I used this service ...

    I used this service for my mother's birthday. Since I had requested a cake in advance, the hospitality was exceptional, and I am truly grateful. From the moment we got out of the car to when we got back in, everything was wonderful. The refined Room and view were soothing, the compact yet quiet and clean bathhouse (as Hakone can be a bit lively with many foreign visitors), the delicious meals (I regret leaving some rice uneaten), and the fluffy mattress—all were absolutely satisfying. I definitely want to visit again. I've used IKYU many times but felt compelled to write a Review for the first time! The photos of meals are incomplete as I forgot to take pictures of some dishes, but everything was truly delicious—especially breakfast, which was absolutely outstanding. Thank you very much!

    It exceeded expectations.

    It was my first stay, and everything exceeded my expectations. The only disappointment was the rain, which made the outdoor bath in the large public bath too cold to enjoy. The meals, service, and other aspects were excellent, and I was very satisfied. I will visit again in a different season.

    We, a couple in our mid-80s, had heard that reservations at Ishiba-san were hard to secure. So, we made a reservation months in advance and visited during a break in the rainy season. Although the road to the accommodation by car was quite difficult to navigate, we returned home down the winding slopes filled with satisfaction. Over the years, we've stayed at many accommodations whenever opportunities arose, but this is our first time writing a review. With only 8 rooms featuring open-air baths and an atmosphere of tranquility, we were impressed by the hospitality reminiscent of traditional accommodations led by the proprietress. The meals especially stood out—delicate kaiseki cuisine perfectly suited for us as seniors brought immense satisfaction. We returned home after a long time feeling fulfilled and grateful. Thank you very much!

    It was a moment of pure quality.

    Climbing up the winding narrow slope, the moment I stepped out of the car, the air changed, and it felt like arriving in paradise. The aroma of the blackwood tea served first was unforgettable. The Room was so comfortable that I forgot to go out for a stroll. The bathhouse was elegant with a stunning view, and thoughtful touches like a single red camellia added charm. Returning indoors after bathing, I was greeted by a faint scent of incense—a delightful surprise at every turn. The cuisine, though simple, had profound flavors that reflected traditional Japanese dining and the chef's creativity; it was an enjoyable experience. I strongly wish to visit again if given another opportunity.

    As always, this distinguished accommodation embodies Japanese culture perfectly, with the room, onsen, cuisine, and hospitality all being impeccable. The view of azaleas and fresh green mountains from the room, the gentle hot spring waters, and the wisteria trellis seen from the open-air bath were truly delightful. The warabi tofu and flavorful dashi were exceptionally delicious, and thanks to the graceful service of our room attendant, we felt deeply rejuvenated. Having just returned from overseas myself, I was reminded once again of how profound Japanese cuisine is and how relaxing a stay at a Japanese ryokan can be. I sincerely appreciate my stay here and look forward to visiting again in the future.

    Undoubtedly a renowned Ryokan

    Tracing back to the wonderful memories from over a decade ago, three generations of our family, five in total, visited this time. We arrived with a slight worry that things might have changed, but Ishiba remained as it was—an exceptional Ryokan exuding elegance and dignity with uncompromising attention to detail. It was truly an extraordinary accommodation. The refined decor and warm hospitality were neither excessive nor overly luxurious but quietly beautiful, precise when needed, and flexible in service. From the moment we arrived until we departed in a taxi with the Ryokan fading from view, we were enveloped in kindness and care. The meals were visually stunning and deliciously flavorful; each dish served on meticulously chosen tableware reflected heartfelt craftsmanship that left us deeply moved throughout our stay. Despite being jet-lagged from returning temporarily from France and waking up late for breakfast or departure, there was no rush or pressure placed upon us—the staff saw us off calmly until the very end, leaving us feeling truly comforted. In recent times when many renowned accommodations have shifted focus towards foreign tourists due to Japan's travel boom—often leading to disappointment—it is profoundly heartwarming to know such beautiful Japanese accommodations still exist today. We are already looking forward eagerly to visiting again as a family next time! Thank you so much to everyone at Ishiba for creating unforgettable memories!

    It is indeed a wonderful accommodation.

    We visited around the same time as our previous stay, and this time we were fortunate to enjoy the beautiful cherry blossoms of Yugawara. The weeping cherry blossoms and camellias by the open-air bath added a touch of elegance, making for a truly delightful bathing experience. The meals featured a spring-inspired menu, and every dish from dinner to breakfast was delicious from start to finish. The attendant who took care of us during this visit was wonderfully attentive with subtle yet thoughtful gestures, allowing us to have an exceptionally comfortable stay.     A Refined Microcosm

    A long-awaited return to Sekiya. With falling camellias and early cherry blossoms, I was moved by the exceptional hospitality, impressed by the elegance and refined taste. Needless to say, the exquisite cuisine and soothing hot springs were unparalleled. I thoroughly enjoyed the rich history and heartfelt service. Thank you very much. Sekiya never disappoints.     It was a relaxing accommodation.

    The serene and tranquil atmosphere, the scent of incense throughout the accommodation, the seasonal decorations, meals, and baths—all were impeccable with exceptional hospitality. The dishes served one by one by the staff were rich in seasonal flavors, beautifully presented on exquisite tableware, making it a delightful experience. Breakfast was also incredibly delicious. It was a stay to celebrate my husband's birthday, and we were deeply touched by the thoughtful celebration from the proprietress. We also greatly appreciated the privileges offered for Diamond members. It was a stay that made us want to visit again in another season. Thank you very much!

    A Moment of Relaxation

    I didn't know there was such a heartwarming accommodation nearby. Fresh flowers and hanging scrolls in the room, touches of Japanese paper here and there, the chirping of birds in the garden, and the stunning view from the large public bath—all delight your senses. Towels were replaced during room preparation or cleaning, showing thoughtful attention to detail throughout our stay. The meals were also very delicious, and I would love to visit again.

    We had a wonderful time.

    It was my first visit in about five years. - A spotless, clean space - Bedding that satisfied even someone like me who has trouble sleeping - Appliances that excel in both functionality and design → They had been renewed since my last visit, so I will use them as a reference for my home - High-quality tableware and cuisine - Polite hospitality that is not overbearing My surrounding environment has changed, but this is a property where I can feel at ease with its unchanging quality no matter how many times I visit. I will continue to favor this place. I couldn't fill out the survey, so I am posting here. If I had to say, there were too many stylish switches, and I couldn't tell which switch was for which place, so there were areas I couldn't turn off when sleeping. It would be helpful if you could make it easier to understand the locations. The only downside is that it's hard to get a reservation, but I will use it again.

    To enjoy a hot spring cure during the winter solstice.

    I visited to enjoy a hot spring bath on the winter solstice. Even though I arrived a bit early due to the rain starting, I was warmly welcomed, which I appreciated. At the entrance, a noren with the words "Sekiyo" was fluttering, raising my expectations. The room I was shown to was a cozy Japanese-style room. From the window of the beautifully polished room, I could see the remaining autumn leaves and moss wet from the rain. It was a moment to feel the wabi-sabi. Since there was no bath in the room, I went to the large public bath, where there was a yuzu bath along with the word "winter solstice." This fulfilled my purpose for the visit. However, perhaps because it was the winter solstice, there were surprisingly many people coming and going, making it feel a bit cramped. For dinner, there were seasonal Japanese dishes from various regions. Tuna from Aomori, yellowtail from Himi, oyster rice, and since it was the winter solstice, pumpkin with sweet red beans were also on the menu. For breakfast, there were delicious items from the Yugawara area. Local specialties like horse mackerel and whitebait were served, and both breakfast and dinner were delicious. The hospitality was impeccable, and I think it was wonderful as a Japanese-style ryokan. However, considering the price, I felt there could be a little something extra, not in terms of material or items, but in some other form. I think it's a property worth visiting at least once.

    I was able to relax comfortably.

    I was able to relax very comfortably. The Room was spacious and clean. I was surprised that there wasn't a speck of dust. However, the bed might be a bit narrow. Since the Room is so spacious, I think it would be better if the twin beds were at least semi-double. The cypress bath in the Room was comfortable. I was impressed by the thoughtful gesture of providing yuzu, allowing us to enjoy a yuzu bath. As for the large bath, if I may express a wish, it would be even better if the shower hooks were positioned higher. My wife had trouble washing her hair because she had to hold the shower. The meals were, of course, delicious, but to be honest, they weren't particularly impressive. Since I believe this Ryokan prides itself on its cuisine, I hope they can make a bit more effort. I look forward to visiting again next time.

    The ultimate luxury

    This was our several visit to Sekiyo. We visited as usual, two middle-aged men. We relaxed in the usual Room. We enjoyed authentic dishes, one by one. In the open-air bath with persimmons hanging down, we gazed at the distant mountain range. Everything is not flashy but calming, true luxury can be found at Sekiyo. Again, the two middle-aged men gratefully received the healing of Sekiyo with our whole bodies. We will definitely come again.

Although it was a short time, we are truly grateful.
