Wonderful
The hospitality, Onsen, and meals were all excellent. There are four private baths, and with the reservation system you can always use three of them. After each guest, the staff clean the bath every time, so it was truly spotless and very comfortable. The only downside is having to keep an eye on the time, but since everything is thoroughly cleaned each time, I think the benefits outweigh that. The meals were delicious and very satisfying. It’s not a budget Accommodation by any means, but it’s an Accommodation I’d love to visit again. It would have been even better if there had been a nicer view.

The private open-air bath is wonderful.
All four private open-air baths are spacious and spotless, with silky water, and you can relax while looking out over the forest. The meals featured plenty of Fukushima local cuisine, all of it seeming very healthy. We also appreciated that the drinks in the Room and bath area were all-inclusive. The staff’s attentiveness was excellent, and we liked being called by phone when it was time for the baths or meals. We would definitely like to visit again.

A truly exceptional Accommodation.
For me, a truly great Accommodation is one that offers the same hospitality even to a solo guest at first visit—better yet, service that pleasantly exceeds expectations. When I find an Accommodation or Hotel that meets this standard, I return with family and friends. Sato no Yu is unquestionably such an Accommodation. Without being bound by existing systems, thoughtful guest-focused service was evident everywhere: suggestions for the Shuttle Service and a private bath, and considerate attention to footwear in the connecting corridor. Every staff member did these things proactively and with genuine warmth—something not easily achieved. The facilities are excellent, and the service is flawless as well. Needless to say, the Onsen was outstanding. I enjoyed the best soak of my life—it was truly moving. The meals were carefully prepared and deeply satisfying; Fukushima’s vegetables in particular were genuinely delicious. To put it modestly: Sato no Yu is the best in Fukushima!! I will definitely visit again, and I look forward to seeing you then. Lastly, during this hot season, please take good care of yourselves—all of you on staff.

Repeat Guests
Thank you very much for your hospitality once again. Both the Onsen water quality and the delicious meals were impeccable. In a relaxing atmosphere, my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed soaking in the Onsen. All of the staff were wonderful. Thank you very much for taking such great care of us.

This is an excellent accommodation.
I first visited last year and everything was wonderful, so I came back again. The season was April, just like last time. However, last year we stayed in late April and the weeping cherry tree at the entrance to the annex “Hanamura” was in full bloom, along with the lion-camellias deeper on the grounds. This time it was still a bit early, so we weren’t able to see the cherry blossoms. This time we couldn’t reserve an annex Room, so we stayed in a main building Room called “Kaede.” It was a bright corner Room overlooking the walking path below. The simple Japanese-modern design felt open and airy, and everything was spotless and comfortable. In the main building you can move around without shoes and easily access the dining area and lounge—different from staying in an annex, but very convenient in its own way. Because of that convenience, we ended up using the lounge a lot: my husband enjoyed delicious local sake, while my daughter, my mother, and I relaxed on comfortable sofas with ice cream and snacks. We truly unwound during our stay (perhaps a little too much). And of course, one of this Accommodation’s highlights is the private baths. This time we used “Mizuhanada,” a semi-open-air bath right after check-in; “Hazome,” a large indoor bath just before dinner; and “Shinpeki,” an open-air bath before breakfast (where we saw a serow last year). Each bath had its own wonderful view and atmosphere—we fully enjoyed the Onsen. The meals—featuring Fukushima’s seafood and mountain delicacies—were just as excellent as last time. Everything delighted both our eyes and our palate. Once again I was reminded how simply outstanding the rice and sake are here. I also loved breakfast being served with several small portions of local dishes; it left a great impression again this year. Another key part of what makes this Accommodation so comfortable is the service. Every staff member was exceptionally polite and attentive. From welcome to farewell, they understood what we needed without us having to say much, providing smooth service with exactly the right level of care—making our stay completely stress-free. It truly is remarkable. While everyone in my family loves the baths, food, and service here, one personal favorite for me is also ikebana throughout the property. Each arrangement elegantly enhances this Accommodation’s refined atmosphere with great taste—it’s genuinely beautiful. An Accommodation where everything is wonderful. If it were closer to home, I would visit many times each year across all four seasons—spring through winter alike. Hoping to return again soon.

Thank you very much.
This was our second stay, following last year. Once again, we were satisfied with everything. The staff always greeted us with smiles, and we were able to relax and enjoy our time. The only disappointment was that it rained on the second day. We would love to visit again.

A Wonderful Hidden Onsen Accommodation
Although it’s fairly close to my in-laws’ home, it’s very popular and has only a few rooms, so we finally managed to make a Reservation and visited for the first time. The narrow road down from the main street seems to require some careful driving, but when we called, we were told there was no snow left. When we arrived, they came out to greet us, and we checked in right away in our Room. There is no large public bath, but the staff promptly arranged Reservations for four private baths—before and after dinner and again the next morning—so everything went smoothly. The water temperature was perfect and very relaxing. I was lucky enough to try all four, but my favorite was the newer semi-open-air bath outside after going down more than 50 steps. The footwear provided also made it easy and safe to walk. Dinner was carefully prepared throughout, and we enjoyed it along with tastings of local sake and wine. Breakfast was just the right amount; we enjoyed a variety of side dishes along with delicious local “Fukuwarai” rice. All drinks in the in-room refrigerator were free, and there was also a wide selection of complimentary drinks in the changing area after bathing. I especially appreciated the warmed bath towels in the changing area by the outdoor bath—it showed great attention to detail. The shared lobby areas are small, so when others are there you may feel a bit hesitant about using them, which was slightly disappointing; however, we were able to enjoy both meals and baths without running into other guests and relax privately at our own pace. Above all, every staff member was kind and pleasant, making this a wonderful memory for us. We’d love to visit again in another season.

The Onsen was great, but...
The open-air bath in the forest is famous, and I had always wanted to visit someday. We checked in at 2:00 PM on the first day of a three-day weekend, and we were able to use all four private baths. The water temperature was just right, the slightly viscous spring quality was excellent, and it was nice that drinks were prepared in various places. Our Room was a corner Room, and even the in-room bath had a window; we could see the Arakawa River and the forest from it. It seems some Rooms do not have a good view, so I recommend confirming in advance. Dinner is served in the Room, but it’s not at “a table and chairs”—it’s “a low table with floor chairs,” which makes it hard to eat comfortably. Since my legs were uncomfortable, they kindly replaced them with higher floor chairs. They served each dish at just the right timing to match our fast pace of eating. The meal used local ingredients and featured dishes made with soda-bushi (dried bonito flakes) that the head chef is particular about; everything was delicious. [Disappointing points] - There were no cups placed at the washbasin area in our Room (it seemed they forgot). - Our names were incorrect on the dinner menu provided at dinner. - A soup dish was forgotten and served later. - At breakfast, miso soup was forgotten (they noticed quickly and brought it out). - We received a ticket usable for next time, but my name’s kanji characters were incorrect (conversion mistake). Given this Accommodation has high Reviews and costs around JPY 50,000 per person per night, this is the first time I’ve experienced so many careless mistakes—so much so that all of the good points were overshadowed. Isn’t getting guests’ names wrong extremely rude...? It felt very sloppy. All of the staff members were pleasant as well, which made it even more disappointing. I hope they will make improvements.

A Lasting Memory of Hanamura and Deep Azure
Staying in the detached guest room “Hanamura” at Tsuchiyu Bettei Sato no Yu was a truly fulfilling, irreplaceable experience. From the moment I stepped into “Hanamura,” I was struck by the impeccable cleanliness and the beauty of its calm, traditional Japanese design. The space felt refined yet warmly inviting, and I could feel myself relax from the very start. The sense of privacy unique to a detached room was also wonderful, allowing me to enjoy quiet, luxurious time without any concern for my surroundings. Dinner on each of the two nights featured different menus, and both were outstanding—so much so that mealtimes became something I looked forward to every day. Each dish reflected careful craftsmanship and a delicate approach that honored the ingredients, conveying the chef’s thoughtful attention to detail. Most unforgettable of all was the private Onsen “Shinpeki.” Soaking in complete tranquility surrounded by deep mountain woods was an incomparable luxury and became a special memory that will stay with me for a long time. That feeling of becoming one with nature remains vividly in my mind even now. I am also deeply grateful for the kind and attentive service from all staff members throughout my stay. Thanks to your warm and sincere hospitality, this visit became even more beautiful and memorable. I would love to return again next winter. Thank you very much for everything.

It was excellent.
All the baths are private, so we were able to fully enjoy the Onsen without any worries. The combination of rustic, nature-filled baths with a stylish changing room and relaxation area was wonderful. The small library and the lounge with free drinks were also great. Dinner was absolutely delicious. So close to Tokyo, Sato no Yu felt like a trip back in time. We’d love to visit again in a different season.

Pine Room
We visited aiming for the autumn foliage season, but it seemed a bit early. However, we were very satisfied as we could enjoy all the usual baths. The meals were arranged thoughtfully based on our previous review, which was truly touching. Thank you so much. This time, we stayed in the Matsu Room for the first time. Although this room does not have a private open-air bath, it was still excellent. We hope to visit again next year during the right season. Thank you to all the staff for your hospitality!

The perfect accommodation in every way!
Entering a side road at the entrance of Tsuchiyu Onsen, you descend a narrow mountain path with hairpin curves. Upon arrival, the staff is already waiting to assist you and will move your car to the parking lot. Stepping into this accommodation surrounded by forest, you'll find hallways and the lobby entirely covered in tatami mats—no need for slippers, as walking barefoot is perfectly comfortable. The cozy lobby and adjacent lounge are clean, stylishly designed, and exude excellent taste! The lounge offers coffee, tea, snacks, various beverages in the fridge—including beer—and even ice cream. At the back of the lounge is a small library where you can enjoy quiet reading. The room we stayed in was "Kobushi," located right next to the lounge. Upon entering our room, we were served delicious handmade yokan (sweet bean jelly) with tea. From its large windows, you can admire views of mountain trees; it also features underfloor heating for added comfort. The room's refrigerator is stocked with various drinks while its separate freezer includes ice cream! The private open-air bath attached to our room had perfect water temperature and offered an uninterrupted flow of onsen water straight from its source. Instead of traditional yukata robes, this accommodation provides comfortable two-piece loungewear sets that are easy to wear. There are no large communal baths here; instead all four baths are private-use by reservation only—bookable during check-in—with towels provided at each bath so there's no need to bring any from your room. The first bath we tried was "Shinpeki," located down an outdoor staircase along a riverbank—the open-air setting made it incredibly refreshing! Warmed bath towels were prepared in advance at its changing area alongside refrigerators stocked with drinks including beer! Hairdryers had strong airflow while amenities were plentiful too. Another bath called "Seiran" featured semi-open-air views that were equally stunningly beautiful. Meals here aren't served in-room but rather at their dining area where dishes crafted using local ingredients showcase delicate flavors—each one absolutely delicious! Despite usually leaving food uneaten when staying elsewhere before now everything got devoured effortlessly thanks largely due how tasty they turned out being overall plus thoughtful touches like preparing late-night snacks further enhanced experience altogether! Breakfast proved just as delightful featuring locally sourced premium rice cooked perfectly fluffy sweet-tasting enough warrant seconds helping without hesitation whatsoever! All staff members hail locally themselves delivering attentive heartfelt hospitality warming not only bodies through soothing onsens but hearts alike throughout stay making entire visit feel genuinely special beyond expectations imaginable till now ranking undoubtedly number one among past experiences ever encountered anywhere else previously visited before today honestly speaking truthfully Wonderful Onsen Accommodation
This was my second stay this year, and I was completely satisfied from arrival to departure. During my previous stay, I mentioned that a family member has difficulty walking, and you provided a chair that can be used on tatami. This time, the chair was already properly set up in the Room when we entered, and the staff remembered us—welcoming us at the entrance with “Welcome back.” It’s not only the service and hospitality; the meals were delicious kaiseki cuisine with an autumn-inspired presentation, and there are four private Onsen baths with free-flowing spring water—everything is thoughtfully taken care of. However, depending on the person, it may feel inconvenient that the private baths require advance booking—you need to decide both the time slot and which bath to use. If coordinating around that is difficult, you may end up using the in-room bath (a bit small). It also seems that inbound travelers have been increasing recently. I feel that if you further differentiate pricing for repeat guests of Satono-yu or for weekday stays, more people would choose to visit Fukushima or Tsuchiyu Onsen specifically because they want to stay at Satono-yu. I hope you continue striving for even greater heights. I’m looking forward to it.

The onsen was as wonderful as ever. The room and facility were exceptionally clean, making for a very comfortable stay. The service was impeccable, leaving us extremely satisfied. The meals were delightful, especially the dinner. Special requests such as NG options were kindly accommodated. Last time we had issues with horseflies, but this time it was not a problem. Private baths tour
A style where you can reserve one of four private baths at check-in and enjoy a private bathing experience. While time slots are fixed, it ensures complete privacy. The amenities are well-equipped, reflecting attention to detail for a luxurious bath experience. Meals can also be enjoyed at your own pace without worrying about others, making it ideal for those seeking a calm and extraordinary retreat.

It was excellent!
It was a wonderful accommodation that did not disappoint my expectations. The facility was impeccably clean, and all the open-air baths were well-maintained, especially "Shinpeki," which had an amazing view just as shown in the photos. Being located in a nature-rich area, I felt it was well-managed overall, though it’s understandable that there were some insects both in the open-air baths and inside the facility. The meals were exceptionally delicious, and the hospitality of the staff was outstanding. I would love to visit again during a different season!

It was truly wonderful.
We stayed in a separate accommodation as a family of five, and we were completely satisfied with everything—the atmosphere of the accommodation, the bath, the room, the food, and the warm hospitality and attentiveness of the staff. However, the wooden clogs provided for walking from the separate accommodation to the main building were a bit difficult to walk in. Other than that, it was one of the best ryokans we have ever stayed at. My family and I are already talking about wanting to come back again!

Exceptional hospitality
We stayed in mid-July. On the day of our arrival, despite the rainy weather, we found "Sato no Yu" nestled at the bottom of a winding slope near the entrance to Tsuchiyu Onsen. The atmosphere was wonderful from the start, raising our expectations. This time, we stayed in a detached accommodation called "Hanamura," which is located a bit away from the main building. While it required some walking to access meals and private open-air baths, there was a dedicated parking space right in front of our room—perfect for car enthusiasts who can park with peace of mind. However, please note that the winding slope leading to the accommodation is quite steep and tight; drivers with low-clearance sports cars or vehicles with long wheelbases (requiring multiple turns) or long overhangs (risking contact under front/rear bumpers) should exercise caution. Check-in was done in our room, which was beautifully cleaned and well-maintained. The refrigerator included complimentary drinks; as I am not fond of alcohol, all were replaced with soft drinks—thank you! And above all else, I loved having ice cream available! The open-air bath attached to our room was fantastic—not large but offering an openness comparable to that of "Shinpeki," one of their private open-air baths! Each private bath had its own unique charm and came equipped with post-bath drinks and towels—a thoughtful touch. Dinner was served in a private room within the main building where soothing visuals played on a large monitor screen—creating an elegant and relaxing dining experience. The meal itself featured creative Japanese kaiseki dishes that were all delicious. Breakfast consisted of traditional Japanese fare—it had just the right portions and tasted great. I had always wanted to visit "Sato no Yu," and their hospitality exceeded my expectations—it left me deeply impressed. Despite unfortunate rain during our stay, we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves thanks to every staff member's attentive care. I am already looking forward to visiting again during another season! Thank you very much!

We visited as a family of three. The building is from the Showa era, but it was fully renovated four years ago and is very clean. The food, prepared by a highly skilled chef, features an exquisite broth that is gentle yet aromatic and absolutely delightful. The open-air bath located 56 steps down has a great atmosphere, perfect temperature, and excellent cleanliness. However, it's unfortunate that there are no baths available without a reservation and that you have to climb 56 steps after bathing.

It was a relaxing accommodation.
We visited your highly-rated accommodation to relax and recover from this year's intense summer heat. First, we were comforted by the warm hospitality of your staff. They were discreet yet always attentive in a thoughtful manner. We reserved three private baths upon arrival (though not necessarily at our preferred times due to availability) and enjoyed the unique atmosphere of each one. The bath we most wanted to try, "Shinpeki," was available the next morning. Soaking in Shinpeki while watching the waterfall amidst deep greenery was truly breathtaking. It was our first time experiencing an open-air bath in such a setting, which was incredibly soothing as well. We left with hopes of visiting again during autumn's foliage season. Thank you for your hospitality!

It was excellent.
Driving down the winding slope, three staff members were waiting at the entrance. Although I arrived a bit early, I was able to check in immediately and was shown to my room. The room was the smallest "Sakura" room, but it was spacious enough for one person. I had requested a high chair in advance, so there were both a regular floor chair and a high chair in the room, which was very helpful. Meals were served in the room, allowing me to enjoy them at my own pace. The food was delicious! I was amazed by how perfectly timed each dish arrived one after another—it almost felt like there might be cameras installed in the room (just kidding!). There are four private Onsen baths available: I used "Seiran" after check-in, "Hajizome" before dinner, "Mizuhana" after dinner, "Shinpeki" the next morning, and finally enjoyed my own Onsen bath in my room after breakfast—five times total! Unfortunately, since it’s summer now, horseflies were buzzing around at the outdoor bath so I couldn’t stay too long there. In addition to this wonderful experience: various drinks are available at lounges and some of the baths; also Nigori sake (cloudy sake) is offered after meals. Drinks and ice cream inside your room's refrigerator are complimentary as well. Next time I'd love to visit again during another season with my wife! However—one thing caught my attention this time: during meals I repeatedly heard loud running noises echoing through... What could that have been? It seemed odd because there weren’t many guests staying that day—I didn’t encounter anyone else from check-in until checkout!

Solo Journey for Adults in Michinoku
As you descend the winding private road to the accommodation, a staff member greets you with a warm "Welcome" about 10 meters before the entrance. Upon parking in front of the entrance and stepping inside, all the staff enthusiastically greet you. The team is mostly young, giving off an energetic vibe. The room has a calm and refined Japanese-modern style. At 3:00 PM, I enjoyed a semi-open-air hinoki bath. Surrounded by forest with no noise, there was a faint scent of sulfur—an exceptional onsen experience. Dinner started at 5:45 PM and was served in the room, allowing for a relaxed dining experience. Every dish was delicious. They introduced me to "Fukuwarai," rice produced by specialized farmers in Fukushima, which was incredibly tasty and came with an informational pamphlet. I requested rice balls for a late-night snack, and they kindly included cheese and crackers on the plate as well—thank you for your thoughtfulness. The next morning at 6:50 AM, I visited an open-air bath called Shinpeki. Once again surrounded by nature's beauty (while keeping an eye out for bears!), it offered ultimate relaxation—a truly remarkable outdoor bath. Although it was just one night’s stay, I felt completely rejuvenated. I would love to visit again during another season!
