    As usual.

As last year, we stayed for two nights in a Junior Suite to celebrate our grandchild’s birthday. The forecast was wrong, and the sun came out all three days, so we were able to fully enjoy Iritahama Beach and the pool instead of Nabeta. The staff’s consistently warm hospitality made our stay even more wonderful. Breakfast was great, but on the second day some items changed, and our grandchild was disappointed that their favorite shigure-ni from the previous day was no longer available, so I rated it 4. We’re looking forward to visiting again next year. They say they’d like to stay three nights next time.

    Try a Multiple Night Stay.

I stayed for a 2-night stay the other day. The Room was spacious, and although the large public bath isn’t very big, if you choose your time it doesn’t get too crowded. I also enjoyed the pool on both days. As for the Room, it would have been perfect if there had been chairs on the balcony. The biggest issue was the restaurant meals. On the first night, the course meal was excellent and I was very satisfied. However, on the second night, it was an extremely disappointing and sparse course meal. Normally, with a Multiple Night Stay you would expect meals that are just as good as (or better than) the previous day, but that wasn’t the case here at all. On day two there was no explanation of the dishes; even with the seafood aspic we couldn’t tell what kind of seafood it contained, so we ended up mixing it around with chopsticks saying things like “Oh, this is octopus… is this squid?” The same went for the children’s meal. On day two, even the main diced steak was so tough that even adults couldn’t bite through it. If you plan a Multiple Night Stay at this Hotel, I think a Plan with meals is fine for only one night; for the second night, a Plan without meals would be better. Another Accommodation in Shimoda where I stayed multiple nights was completely different in this regard. It might be worth referring to other places as well… Other than that, I’m satisfied.

A Hotel near the coast, ideal for summer swimming.

I stayed in June because I had errands nearby. There was a shuttle bus from the station, so getting there was easy and very convenient. The Hotel was very clean, and the staff were friendly and pleasant. The breakfast buffet offered a wide variety of options and was delicious. Since the Hotel is built on elevated ground near the coast, the views were great, and the scenery from the garden was wonderful. If you go down from the garden side, the beach is right in front of you, and the Hotel also has a pool, so I felt it would be lively with families during the summer swimming season. The bath also had an open-air bath facing the sea with a beautiful view. However, one disappointing point was that the changing area was a bit small; because there is an extra shelf placed between the mirror and the shelves at the back, there was barely enough space to pass other people. The Room showed how crowded it was supposed to be, so I went at what I thought would be a quieter time, but the changing area was still very crowded. It seems best to avoid peak times as much as possible. Overall, everything was very clean, the food was excellent, and it was a great Hotel stay.

    Warm Hospitality

We stayed for one night with my parents in their 80s and the two of us, using two Rooms. We had dinner at the Hotel restaurant, and we truly appreciated that the staff noticed my elderly father was feeling cold by the window and offered a blanket. Many of the Hotel staff seemed to be in second careers, and perhaps because of that, we felt their experienced hospitality in many ways, which made our stay very reassuring. ...Just one thing: there was no foldable luggage rack in the Room to place our bags on, which was inconvenient. Other than that, we had a very comfortable time. Thank you very much.

    The meals were delicious.

The dinner course in particular was outstanding. It beautifully combined the best of French and Japanese cuisine, with gentle flavors throughout—fresh local vegetables and sauces that really highlighted the freshness of the fish. Every dish was truly delicious! Breakfast also offered a wide variety of items, and we were very satisfied.

It’s been a while since I last stayed at Shimoda Tokyu.

It was my first visit in about 20 years. The weather was great, and the location was wonderful with a full view of the ocean—it was truly relaxing. The Room was more spacious than I expected and very clean, so I could unwind, but the washroom area felt a bit small, so I’m giving it 4 stars. For dinner, we ordered à la carte at the restaurant. The beef fillet steak was incredibly tender—soft enough to eat with chopsticks—and the simmered whole golden eye snapper was absolutely delicious. Breakfast also offered a wide variety of options, all tasty, and there were some items you don’t often see at other Hotel properties, which made it enjoyable. I remember using the pool in midsummer when my children were still in elementary school. Now they’re married and have children of their own, so next time I’d love to come back in midsummer with my grandchildren.

This is a Hotel I’ve stayed at many times. I especially love the Onsen. The staff are polite without being overly formal, which makes it very comfortable. The rooms are also clean and well kept. It’s a Hotel that feels welcoming in every way, so even during my stay I find myself thinking, “When should I come back next?” Thank you again for this trip.

    Homecoming After Three Years

Back to Minami-Izu, where my family home once was. Since we sold it, this is still my hometown—but now we stay at a Hotel. I had always wanted to stay at Tokyu someday. Everything was excellent. Now our dinner-table topic is what to eat for breakfast next time.

We had a wonderful girls’ night.

Once a year, we travel together—two senior ladies. It was our first time in Shimoda, and we really enjoyed it. The meals at the Hotel were wonderful. The creative arrangements of the splendid alfonsino were especially impressive. Thank you very much.

The service was good, I think.

Nothing particularly notable, but generally comfortable, I suppose. First, there was a dried mandarin peel in the Room; when I requested cleaning, they promptly handled it by changing my Room. Also, since the location is at the top of a steep hill, it was nice that they offered Shuttle Service as well as additional Shuttle Service support. Overall, I felt the service was courteous. If there’s one area for improvement, it would be the meals. Perhaps because my Room was changed, check-in at dinner took a while and staff left me waiting during confirmation; also, the floor staff didn’t seem attentive—after the appetizer was served I was left for about 15 minutes without anyone checking in or speaking to me. The menu explanation was also mumbled and cut off at the end. Even if I assume it can’t be helped because some staff are foreign nationals, it felt disappointing that there wasn’t anyone to provide support. As for the food itself: it looked good and had many dishes, but tasted average. The vegetables seemed overcooked (or perhaps chosen to suit the typical guests), and while I can’t tell if they were frozen or not, everything lacked texture overall, which was disappointing. Personally I don’t reject ingredients just because they’re frozen—but even so, it felt like only a limited amount of each ingredient’s natural flavor came through. At breakfast the next morning, a couple seated next to us seemed to feel similarly and said something like: “It’s a Multiple Night Stay… what should we do about dinner?”

    It was very informative.

This is my third stay at this Hotel. Each time, I have visited to see the Kawazu cherry blossoms. Since it is a seaside Hotel, I naturally assumed I would have a Room with an ocean view, and on my previous two stays I was assigned such a Room—so I let my guard down. Because I made the Reservation only two weeks in advance during a busy season, I thought a lower-floor Room would be fine, but that was careless of me. Since it was clearly stated in the information that it would be on a “lower floor,” I should have called the Hotel to ask what “lower floor” meant. Rooms are often labeled as mountain-side or ocean-side. It never occurred to me that “lower floor” could mean “no ocean view.” I am over 70, and it’s still a learning experience no matter how old you are.

    I had a comfortable stay.

I made a Reservation about two months ago, and this year it coincided perfectly with the peak season for Kawazu cherry blossoms. We were also blessed with great weather, and the view of Oura Beach and the blossoms right in front of us was stunning. This was my first time staying in a room where the bed faced the window, but the layout—designed to make the most of the ocean view—was very comfortable, and I didn’t even turn on the TV. Compared with during the COVID period, the hospitality has changed quite a bit, and it felt improved. I’d like to stay again.

    A proper Resort Hotel

We stayed one night to see the Minami Cherry Blossom and Nanohana Festival and the Kawazu Cherry Blossom Festival. We chose Hotel meals for both breakfast and dinner. Our Room was a twin with an ocean view. It may not be a sparkling-new Room or building, as it doesn’t seem to have been renovated recently, but it was clean, well maintained, and very comfortable. The restaurant was likely renovated fairly recently. It was busy with what seemed like a good number of group guests for the season, but the tables were well spaced, the ceiling was high, and the atmosphere felt calm. Above all, dinner was excellent: approachable Japanese-style French cuisine that made great use of fresh local ingredients, with slightly unusual seasonings that we really enjoyed—both in taste and presentation. It’s also nice that when you stay in Shimoda you can take a free sightseeing bus to the Minami cherry blossom festival venue. For breakfast, we went after 9:00 and it was almost empty, so we could relax and enjoy everything at our own pace—including a delicious omelet. We used the Onsen twice as well—an authentic traditional Japanese Resort Hotel experience. The views were outstanding.

A feast of spiny lobster to delight all five senses. A soul-satisfying getaway in Shimoda.

The Room had a wonderful view, and the in-room jacuzzi was fantastic. Dinner was the “Ise Lobster Feast Japanese-Western Fusion Course Plan” we had been looking forward to, and it exceeded our expectations—an outstanding meal that let us fully enjoy Shimoda-grown spiny lobster in a variety of refined styles! The Nakaizu Winery wine came in the Hotel’s original bottle and was delicious; I’m glad we tried it on this occasion. The service was excellent as well, making for a very pleasant dinner. This is a Hotel we would definitely like to visit again.

I was able to relax ...

I was able to relax and unwind in a very quiet, peaceful space. The location was also excellent. The emerald-green sea and the Kawazu cherry blossoms—those views were truly soothing. Although I had booked a Plan without dinner, they were able to accommodate me on the day at short notice, which was a great help. Dinner could be ordered à la carte, and breakfast was buffet-style. Both were delicious, and I was very satisfied! I would definitely like to stay again.

    It exceeded my expectations.

We were blessed with great weather and had a wonderful weekend. What surprised me was that the building was completed in the same to year I was born! The monument to the first boiler was lovely. Unlike clumsy me, it didn’t feel old at all—its calm, beautifully aged atmosphere was truly impressive. The staff included many senior members, unlike a Business Hotel, and their courteous service was very comforting. Breakfast was also excellent—kamameshi, sushi, dried fish, and more. This long-established Hotel made me want to visit again. Thank you very much.

It was a wonderful Hotel. Check-in was smooth, and the staff were very kind and helpful. We were also very satisfied with the breakfast service. As the Review said, there was a wide variety of breakfast items, and we enjoyed both Japanese and Western options (the kamameshi was outstanding). In addition, thanks to the Hotel’s kindness, our Room was upgraded, which made us very happy. We would love to stay again.

    It feels like an old...

It feels like an old resort in Izu. It has been renovated and is now clean, but you can still sense its age in the elevator, hallways, and the bathroom door in the Room. I stayed in a standard twin Room, but perhaps because it can accommodate three guests, there was no table set, which made eating and drinking in the Room inconvenient. I only had breakfast, but there was kamameshi (rice cooked in a pot), and there was a wide variety of desserts and fruits, which I really enjoyed. It’s a bit far from the station, but they offer Shuttle Service so it wasn’t an issue (it seems you can get off along the way on the return trip). It doesn’t feel particularly luxurious, but as a reliable Tokyu brand property, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. The ocean view was wonderfully open and very nice.

    The meals are delicious.

We enjoyed a delicious dinner. The space between tables was generous, so we weren't bothered by others' conversations. Even though we arrived early, we were allowed to check into our room and relax. All the staff were kind and attentive. The shuttle service staff helped carry our bags and explained Perry Road and Ryosenji Temple, making the trip feel quick. During dinner, the table staff provided just the right amount of conversation and perfectly timed dishes, allowing us to enjoy our meal pleasantly. They even took photos for us when we left. We would love to visit this hotel again!

    The Onsen was excellent.

I arrived early, hoping to have an early meal and enjoy the onsen at a leisurely pace. However, I was told that the early meal slots were fully booked. If meal times are chosen based on arrival order, why were they already full? Even after asking about how the times are decided, I received no clear answer. After much negotiation, I was informed that someone who had reserved an early slot canceled, so I managed to get an earlier time. When I arrived at the dining area at my designated time, it was almost empty. ??? If the process for deciding meal times had been clearly explained from the start, it would have made for a more pleasant dining experience. Unfortunately, my mood dropped significantly right from check-in. Additionally, meals cannot be attended in room wear or slippers after using the bath; this required changing clothes and made it difficult to relax fully. Some guests even had to return to their rooms because they came in slippers by mistake. If this information had been mentioned on the hotel's reservation site beforehand, we could have prepared accordingly—what a disappointment. I was looking forward to enjoying breakfast highly rated in reviews but found it underwhelming: small dried horse mackerel from Shimoda with no miso soup and overall cold dishes—very disappointing!

The meals and ocean view were excellent.

Dinner was a delightful experience with the theme "Travel Through Izu Peninsula with Food," allowing us to savor delicious dishes and wine while feeling the essence of Izu. Breakfast offered a wide variety of both Japanese and Western options, making it hard not to overindulge. The weather was perfect, and the stunning sunrise left a lasting impression. It was a wonderful stay filled with comfort and memorable moments.

Convey the history of a long-established tradition and take a leap into a new Hotel.

The hotel once faced the risk of demolition due to aging facilities, but it stands as a symbol of Tokyu's pride. It has hosted Emperor Showa and served as a training site for Keio Business School's early executive programs. Designed by Keita Goto himself, this is a foundational Tokyu hotel that cannot be replicated in terms of location and facilities. Now catering to families with children and inbound tourists, the hotel has started generating revenue—a positive development. The 20 billion yen investment reflects Tokyu's pride, and staff are encouraged to serve guests with pride and awareness. This time, I stayed on Christmas Day at the end of the year. Most guests were adults, and everything from service to meals was excellent. While the onsen is ordinary due to its hilltop location, it was still a relaxing stay for adults. The sunrise was breathtaking, meals were outstanding, and the Christmas tree was beautiful—perhaps it's truly revived. It was comfortable overall. Thank you for the hospitality from all staff members. I look forward to visiting again at another opportunity!

The view from the Room is amazing.

The level of service was consistent with the Tokyu Hotel standard, and the staff were very kind. As a courtesy from the Hotel, my Room was upgraded, and the view from the Room was fantastic. The breakfast had a wide variety and was very delicious. For dinner, while the foreign staff were doing their best, there were some issues with Japanese explanations which made it slightly disappointing. I also wished for more menu options closer to traditional Japanese cuisine. I would love to visit again!

    A Hotel with Attentive Staff

Upon arrival at the Hotel, we were warmly welcomed at the entrance and smoothly guided to the front desk. The restaurant was comfortable, and the attentive service allowed us to enjoy a pleasant time. The view from the window was excellent, especially during sunrise, which was breathtaking. The public bath was compact yet clean and enjoyable; however, it was disappointing that the view could not be seen while seated in the open-air bath.

    A highly satisfying Hotel.

The wind was strong and it was cold, so we arrived early, but we were immediately guided to our Room and even received an upgrade. We entered the Room in the best mood. Although it felt a bit small for three family members, the view from the Room was amazing, and there were no complaints about the loungewear or amenities. The Japanese-Western fusion dinner course was delicious, and we thoroughly enjoyed it with Shimoda wine. At breakfast, when sunlight streaming into the venue became noticeable, staff quickly set up a screen outside to block it. Their prompt response and kind words left a great impression on us. Other staff members at the restaurant were also attentive and efficient throughout. The large public bath was very pleasant, and having towels readily available added convenience. Overall, this is a wonderful Hotel with high satisfaction in every aspect. We would love to visit again. Thank you for your hospitality!
