Onsen Resort Area Near Hanamaki Higashi High School
Although it was a new Hotel, there was a corridor from the 2nd floor (the reception floor) to the neighboring “Hotel Shidotaira,” allowing guests to share Facilities. Hotel Shidotaira is a large-scale property with features children enjoy, such as a big water slide, and we were told it is run by the same management. This “Shidate” does not allow children under 12 to stay, so it offered a quiet environment. The Room felt a bit small, but the split-level layout helped make up for it. Recently, most Rooms with an open-air Onsen bath allow automatic temperature control, but this Hotel had true free-flowing hot-spring water at about 50°C, so adjusting the temperature was difficult. In that respect, the open-air public bath—along with the footbath—was very pleasant. The relaxation room also had amenities that younger women would appreciate, such as nail dryers. The after-bath lounge was better stocked than at other Hotels we have stayed at. After dinner, we could relax in the lounge at length; it felt like an adults-oriented Hotel completely different from the neighboring one.

It became a wonderful memory.
As it was my birthday month, a birthday card had been placed on the table in my Room, which warmed my heart. For dessert at dinner, they kindly served a small cake and a cocktail, which made me unexpectedly happy. After checkout, while I was waiting in the lounge with some time before the Shuttle Service arrived, they asked if I would like some tea—I was truly touched by their thoughtfulness. With such attentive care like this, it made me want to stay again.

The bath and meals were both very satisfying.
Both the bath in the Room and the large public bath had wonderful hot water. The meals were delicious as well. During our Multiple Night Stay, we were grateful to be able to use the Shuttle Service even when going out on a day between stays. The only issue was that no matter how we adjusted it, the Room air conditioner blew directly on us, and both of us developed allergy symptoms, so we wondered if the filter might need cleaning. Other than that, we were truly very satisfied.

For a relaxing, unhurried getaway for adults
It was a truly wonderful Accommodation. As a welcome drink, I ordered apple juice, and it was delicious. This time I wasn’t very hungry, so I chose a breakfast-only Plan and simply relaxed and enjoyed the Onsen to the fullest—over and over again, in the open-air bath, the footbath, and the in-Room Onsen. You can also enjoy the Onsen at the neighboring sister Hotel, Yuno Mori Hotel Shidotaira. It has a very large public bath area. The atmosphere is completely different, so I’m glad I got to enjoy both. If you want to quietly unwind and soothe your fatigue, I highly recommend this adults-only “Yusen Shidate”!

I enjoyed visiting different hot springs.
I visited last time in summer and this time in winter. It was disappointing that one of the open-air baths at the neighboring Shidodaira Hotel was closed, but I still enjoyed visiting the different baths. The meals—especially breakfast—were delicious. The only thing I found disappointing was that the drinks in the after-bath lounge had changed from bottled milk to canned juice and canned coffee. I would like to visit again in a different season. Thank you to all the staff for your thoughtful hospitality.

Free-flowing Onsen fed directly from the source
I have stayed here three times before on solo trips, and this time I visited with a friend. My friend loves snowy Onsen views, and we were looking forward to that, but unfortunately much of the snow had melted this time. Still, my friend really liked the quality of the Onsen water. For dinner, we chose the slightly more luxurious main course featuring Maezawa beef and abalone. Both were very delicious. The grilled dancing abalone was tender and exceptionally tasty. There was a fried item among the appetizers, but it had gone cold, so we felt it might be better not to include it. The lounge at night also had a relaxing, calm atmosphere. We also appreciated having Shuttle Service to the station. Thank you for taking such good care of us.

Not as nice as our previous visit.
I stayed at this hotel a few years ago and was very satisfied, so I decided to return this year. This time I stayed on the ground floor, but there was an issue with the in-room onsen bath. The hot spring water outlet is too close to the edge of the tub, so when the bath is full, newly added water spills out instead of staying in. As a result, the bathwater becomes too cold and is not suitable in winter. The facilities are also getting old and worn. The food was average—fine, but not outstanding. There were new English-speaking staff assisting foreign guests at dinner; while we appreciate the effort, it felt a bit too corporate, and we would prefer more genuine local Japanese hospitality. Overall, especially considering the price, we were not satisfied—particularly with the in-room bath. I hope the hotel will at least address the bath setup issue.

Unwind to the fullest and enjoy an exceptional free-flowing natural hot spring Onsen.
From check-in to check-out, everything was perfect—an outstanding Accommodation. As an Onsen lover, the free-flowing natural hot spring water was incredible. The water quality was excellent, and my skin truly felt smooth and radiant. Both the open-air bath in our Room with a garden and all the open-air baths within the property were spotless and beautiful. The snowy scenery was stunning, with a river flowing right in front of us, and we were able to enjoy the Onsen at a relaxed pace in complete tranquility. The amenities even included a facial honey pack made in Iwate Prefecture—I was amazed by such thoughtful hospitality. Every dish in the kaiseki meal featured locally sourced ingredients from Iwate Prefecture, and everything was delicious. The tableware used for each course was also absolutely charming. The milk and apple juice at breakfast were so good that I had seconds, and the yogurt was wonderful too—I regret not buying some to take home. We could also visit their sister property and use its large public bath and open-air bath, which was great fun and very satisfying overall. The service was attentive, and I felt truly relaxed and refreshed. I highly recommend this Accommodation especially for adult travelers or anyone who wants to spend quiet, unhurried time away from it all.

I have used this place several times and I am always satisfied. The Room is not very large, but it is convenient as everything is within reach.

An accommodation you'll want to visit again
This was my first time staying here, and the service from start to finish was truly exceptional. Both dinner and breakfast were absolutely delicious, with generous portions. The Onsen's water quality was amazing, leaving my skin silky smooth—what a surprise! While the Facility might be slightly dated, it was impeccably clean and well-maintained. I would love to visit again next time with my mother!

The finest Business Hotel
A concept similar to Hilton. The company spares no expense and operates entirely with Japanese staff, reflecting its policy even in today's trends. Both the facilities and services are well-invested, solving everything with money. Impressive, but that's all there is to it. It feels like efficient management typical of international hotels without a clear vision of what they want to be, how they add value, or where they're heading. Perhaps the price doesn't match the experience or time value offered—just an Instagram-worthy hotel. The compact room includes many small facilities: a 4-tatami mat Japanese-style room and a 6-tatami mat bedroom. The bathroom is so compact that you can't close the door while standing inside. There are no handrails or other safety features, and the wooden and stainless steel materials make it slippery. Disappointing. The most disappointing part might be the head chef? It seems like they've only trained at traditional Ryokan kitchens based on their cooking style. Lightly seasoned dishes lack depth in flavor from dashi stock, while strongly seasoned ones are overly salty. Some dishes were so salty that I couldn't take more than one bite—apologies for being unable to finish them—and breakfast was similar in quality. Neither innovative nor modern nor traditional; it felt stuck in outdated notions of "this is what Ryokan cuisine should be," without studying competitors. As someone who runs a Japanese restaurant in Tokyo, my feedback may seem harsh. I stayed here because there was availability. Value perception varies by individual. Staff members were warm and welcoming. Overall impression: A hotel seemingly inspired by Hoshinoya properties.

We recommend asking detailed questions.
This was my first visit. The room amenities were excellent, and the private onsen in the room was enjoyable. It was also nice to have access to the lounge and baths at the sister accommodation. However, I felt that I had to make various requests and ask detailed questions frequently. For breakfast, tea was not served unless requested (nor was water), and I wasn’t sure if I could get a second serving of rice. It was tiring to keep asking questions, so I left the dining area quickly. It would have been nice if the staff had offered tea when asking about juice or milk, or if the menu mentioned that rice refills were available, to avoid any confusion. The next day, I planned to visit Namari Onsen and asked for directions to the bus stop. I was told it was at the top of the hill, so I went to the bus stop with a sign after reaching the top. The timetable listed buses to Hanamaki Station and Namari Onsen, and there was no visible bus stop on the opposite side of the road. Google Maps also pointed to that bus stop, so I waited there, but the bus passed by on the opposite side. I couldn’t catch it, and the next bus was two hours later. With no taxis available, I had no choice but to walk for an hour and a half to my destination. My feet were covered in blisters, and I arrived over an hour later than the check-in time. While the explanation might have been clear to locals, it was confusing for visitors unfamiliar with the area. A more detailed explanation or a local map would have been helpful. By the way, the staff at the lounge of Shidotaira Hotel were very polite, explaining changes in drink options at night and other details, which felt more considerate. Regarding the large public bath, I noticed a chlorine smell despite the description of it being a free-flowing onsen. Upon checking the analysis sheet, it seemed chlorine was used for disinfection. While it’s not a circulating system, some accommodations now use alternatives to chlorine, so I hope this can be considered. The private onsen in the room was chlorine-free, so I mostly used the room bath.

For a girls' trip
We are two women (middle-aged) and had a relaxing stay. My friend, who accompanied me, was very pleased with the spacious and lovely room, the high-quality onsen water, the delicious dinner and breakfast, and the exceptional service. She was especially delighted by the milk at the post-bath lounge (nostalgic fruit milk and strawberry milk) and enjoyed it every time after bathing. We also had fun exploring by crossing to Shidotaira Hotel next door to enjoy their large public bath, open-air bath, and souvenir shop. The private open-air bath in our room was wonderful as we could enjoy views of the illuminated mountains across from us. It was a bit disappointing that there were no yukatas provided, but it was such an excellent accommodation that we would love to visit again!

Everything was excellent.
I have stayed at various accommodations across the whole country, but this one is definitely in my top 5. The staff were all young and very pleasant. The meals, both dinner and breakfast, were delicious. I chose the double main plan with abalone and steak, which had generous portions. The steak was especially tender with a rich marbling that melted in my mouth. The onsen was relaxing; the large public bath felt like a private space, and I could enjoy the onsen in my room anytime as well. Additionally, there is a connecting passage to Hotel Shidotaira next door where you can use their large public bath and sauna for complete relaxation. The only downside was that there were few outlets in the room, but this minor issue didn’t detract from how wonderful this accommodation was overall.

Everything is perfect!!
First of all, the smiles and service of the staff were excellent!! The room this time was also lovely and very comfortable. The sashimi platter, which you kindly accommodated my request for, was very fresh and I enjoyed it thoroughly! Thank you. Additionally, I had a massage at the spa, and the staff who performed the treatment listened kindly to me, leaving me very satisfied! I will stay again in the near future!! (If I may say so, it would be nice if there were more variety in the shop's selection... haha)

Family Trip: Iwate, Miyagi, and Fukushima Prefectures
An annual 3-night, 4-day whirlwind trip Staying in a different prefecture each night, Shidate offered a warm atmosphere with its furniture and just the right touch of luxury that makes you want to return. It was such a comforting accommodation! Both my parents finished their meals completely, which made me realize how delicious the food was! They usually don’t even touch dishes they don’t like, so I was relieved. The guest room and bath were both excellent, and the thoughtful touches like automatic massages after bathing, coffee, and ice pops were perfect! The staff were very friendly and welcoming to everyone regardless of gender. The bed was comfortable to sleep in, and breakfast was delicious as well. This is an accommodation I’d love to visit again in autumn! Thank you for everything!

First time in half a century?
The onsen with a pool I visited during my elementary school days has transformed into such a quiet and serene accommodation! With the private room bath, large public bath, and the lush greenery of the forest right before your eyes, I had a wonderful time.

Family Trip for Father's 91st Birthday
We used this facility as a gift for my father, who just turned 91. My father has difficulty walking, making it hard for him to use the large public Onsen or even walk within the Facility, but this trip was truly moving. The Room was on the second floor, number 208, conveniently located near the lobby, shop, entrance, and dining area—an ideal location. The Room had an open-air Onsen with natural hot spring water flowing directly into it, allowing my father to bathe comfortably and safely. Meals were served in a private dining room that required minimal walking distance from our Room. We enjoyed exquisite cuisine while taking in breathtaking views. My father expressed his gratitude by saying: "Thank you for the best Onsen and amazing food. I had such a wonderful time! The meals were delicious; I finished everything on my plate. This trip has surely added years to my life." A heartfelt thank you to the head chef who prepared such incredible dishes and all the staff members who greeted us with smiles every day—it was truly an unforgettable trip!

This is my 4th stay.
This is an exceptional accommodation that I keep revisiting. The room comes with an open-air bath, but the view from the large public open-air bath is incredibly soothing. There are also foot baths and a variety of post-bath beverages available. The layout of the room is very convenient to use. The view from the room's open-air bath is stunning as well, with a forest in front and a river flowing below. The meals are delicious, and breakfast is luxurious. This time, the crab tempura was particularly delightful! Since it’s far from the station, using the shuttle bus is recommended. A taxi ride from Shin-Hanamaki costs 6,000 yen.

Feel rejuvenated with your family through meals and Onsen. Experience the charm of "Small Accommodation Hiyori."
We had a wonderful family trip. The delicious meals prepared daily, the beautiful greenery in the garden, and the relaxing Onsen truly recharged our energy. The meals were plentiful yet easy to eat, and I was surprised to see my elderly parents enjoying them so much. The compactly designed Facility made it convenient to move between the dining area, large public bath, and lounge, which I believe made it especially comfortable for my parents. The neighboring Hotel connected by a corridor was larger with a spacious gift shop, allowing us to enjoy a different atmosphere as well. Thanks to the warm hospitality of the staff, we felt at ease throughout our stay. Thank you very much!

We had a relaxing and wonderful time!
Visited for her birthday gift. The main reason for choosing this accommodation was the age restriction. Since she works as a childcare professional, accommodations with children often reminded her of reality, so this trip was all about chilling and escaping from it. **Room & Amenities** The room was very clean with a view of the river, accompanied by peaceful sounds and the gentle flow of water. The private open-air onsen in the room featured natural hot spring water flowing directly from the source—absolutely amazing. The fridge came stocked with beer, bottled tea, coffee, etc., and amenities like face masks were very well-prepared. **Service** Many young staff members provided service with warm smiles and great attention to detail. **Onsen & Bathing Facilities** The private open-air onsen in our room had just the right temperature for two people (around 40°C). The public bath was also clean and wonderful. Listening to the sound of the river while relaxing quietly was blissful. The quality of the hot spring water was excellent. **Facility & Equipment** A very calming space overall. Even hallways were heated warmly—everything felt perfect. **Meals** Dinner: Absolutely delicious! Served in a kotatsu-style private dining room (with likely floor heating), we spent about two hours enjoying slow conversations over high-quality dishes that left us fully satisfied. Breakfast: With checkout at 11:30 AM, we could take our time enjoying breakfast—a gentle flavor profile made it an ideal start to our day. With an exceptional private open-air onsen featuring top-notch hot spring water, completely private dining experiences that exceeded expectations, and such a tranquil atmosphere that we barely encountered other guests—it truly felt like an escape from reality where even taking photos slipped my mind! Would love to visit again!

It is a quiet accommodation.
Second stay. This time, I stayed in a room on the second floor. Last time, it was a room on the first floor. Both were satisfying. I felt that the first-floor room might be slightly more convenient, but it's just a feeling. The bathroom in the room is cooler compared to the large public bath. Since I prefer hotter baths, it was a bit inconvenient not being able to adjust the temperature myself. However, as the large public bath is nearby and I used it multiple times, it was very pleasant and there were no issues there. Highly recommend using the large public bath! Last year, I remember milk being available at the rest area, but now it's been replaced with canned coffee. It had its charm before, so that's a bit disappointing—I hope they bring it back! Being able to borrow magazines in the room was nice. However, it's unfortunate that the stereo's sound quality wasn't great—perhaps due to some malfunction? The service was excellent; everyone was kind and attentive. This accommodation is highly recommended for those who want to spend their time quietly!

The meal on the second night was very disappointing.
I had high expectations and stayed for a multiple night stay for the first time. Upon arrival, there was a misunderstanding between the explanation and my understanding, and I felt slightly blamed by the person in charge. After that, it was okay, but I felt a bit intimidated. The other staff members were all pleasant. The onsen, amenities, and bath towels met my expectations. Although I could use many face towels, I thought it would be better if they were of slightly higher quality. For meals on the first day, as per IKYU's plan, we had abalone and beef as double main dishes. From appetizers to everything else, we were satisfied with delicious dishes that made good use of the ingredients' quality and with the staff's detailed explanations. However, on the second night when it was left to the chef's discretion, it was very disappointing. First came a small portion of tara no me sesame dressing followed by cold clam soup; extremely ordinary grilled flounder in butter (changed because I'm not fond of raw) along with deep-fried ainame fish; again two items featuring tara no me served together. Next came meat cooked on a ceramic plate which had exactly same content as yesterday but about 2/3 quantity without any sauce (on day one grated wasabi from another dish could be used), heavily seasoned simmered flatfish also served cold chawanmushi again three items together at once during dinner service like this is something I've never experienced before—no explanation about these dishes whatsoever—is reading menu ourselves what’s expected? The meal included scallop rice same as day one (which tasted average so changed to plain white rice upon request—note: choice between scallop or plain rice offered only on first day nothing mentioned second), miso soup with hiratake mushrooms identical both days though fewer pickles than previous evening—typically main course plus sides such as rice/miso should vary right? Given how much difference there was in quality/quantity/cooking/presentation despite paying same accommodation fee each night left me shocked! If this is always case then wouldn’t want another multiple-night stay here ever again—it would've been better sticking just single-night visit instead hoping improvements will happen soon!

Consideration for the neighboring guests during dinner.
It was a property with a good atmosphere, clean and cozy, with snow flurries. I was satisfied with the location and temperature of the onsen. I was having a good time, but there was an unfortunate incident during dinner. While enjoying the main dish, I was asked if I could change seats because the guest next to me wanted to dine quietly. Even when I asked several times if there wasn't an option for them to move instead, they just apologized without explaining why. After starting to move us by saying that another seat had been prepared, they added that it would be in a room without windows; is that okay? Also, we were moved while eating the main dish. I wondered if our neighbor must have been a very important guest and thought maybe first-time visitors should go to their sister property instead.

It was a highly satisfying Stays.
I revisited after several years for a Multiple Night Stay. I was able to spend my time comfortably as there was no deterioration in the Facility. There was a trouble with the temperature of the open-air bath in the Room being low, but it was promptly resolved, and the reason for the low temperature and the countermeasures were explained clearly. It seems that such information is shared among the staff, which increased my trust in the Property and made me realize that this is what high hospitality means. Regarding the food, the dinner on the second day was a chef's choice, but as someone who prefers meat over fish, the menu was a bit disappointing as it was mostly seafood. Even if it's a chef's choice, it would be nice if the main menu could be selected or informed in advance. Nevertheless, it was delicious and the portion size was appropriate. It was a wonderful Stays that makes me want to revisit.

The staff is excellent, but the alcohol is expensive.
This time, I used it for the first time with my wife. The Room had an open-air bath, and the staff were considerate, allowing us to spend our time comfortably. I was able to fully relax and felt almost satisfied, but here are some points that caught my attention: 1. Alcohol during dinner is expensive. Local craft beer (around 700 yen at a shop) was 1,700 yen, and sake ranged from about 1,900 yen per serving to 4,000 yen. Although alcohol service is available outside the dining area, the dinner was so wonderful that I wished I could enjoy it a bit more with the drinks. 2. The temperature of the shower in the Room was inconsistent, fluctuating between cold and hot, making it difficult to use. 3. The bed was hard (my personal opinion). Other than that, there were no particular issues. I was satisfied with the Onsen, the meals, and the bar lounge after dinner. I also appreciated the unlimited use of bath towels.

After arrival, I imm...
After arrival, I immediately used the large public bath. The open-air bath has a rock bath and a bath carved out of stone. The rock bath is spacious enough, but slightly lukewarm (especially with cold water at the bottom of the bath). It feels somewhat okay at the water outlet. Perhaps the sudden drop in temperature made it difficult to set the temperature. The private open-air bath in the guest room has a comfortable water temperature but is narrow. I heard that this entire Onsen area is a historic Onsen village. I wonder if the water volume is decreasing. However, there is a milk service after the bath, which is satisfying for someone born in the Showa era. Not only the room but also the shared areas such as the corridors were full of cleanliness, and the set scenery was tasteful. It seemed possible to use the facilities of the main building, but I felt more comfortable staying here, so I didn't go. The meals, both dinner and breakfast, were good. It felt enjoyable. The ingredients must be good, but they probably serve them at the best timing. I drank too much sake.

The whole country Onsen Stays loving couple
I stayed with my wife for one night during the season when the autumn leaves are wonderful. Anyway, the Onsen with natural hot spring water, the meals, and the hospitality of the young staff were very satisfying. The interaction about local ingredients was also enjoyable. In addition to the Onsen in the room, there are three large public baths, and the environment where you can fully enjoy Onsen was delightful. However, there is room for improvement in the room's storage and the lack of space to place things by the bedside. Also, if there were high chairs in addition to the low chairs, I wouldn't have felt any stress, including the burden on the body. Please implement further improvements and aim for a perfect score.

Couple's Trip - Shidate Suite 2 Nights
After turning 60, we enjoy a couple's trip about three times a year. Unlike when we were younger or raising children, we choose Stays where we can relax at our own pace. This time, it was our first time in Iwate Prefecture. We were blessed with good weather and had a fun trip. At this Property, time flowed slowly, and we were able to relax. The interior was well-maintained, and all the staff provided pleasant service with smiles. The food was very delicious, and we looked forward to the meals in the morning and evening. Thanks to that, we drank more and gained weight... haha It became a wonderful memory of Iwate. Thank you very much.
