    It was a truly wonde...

    It was a truly wonderful accommodation. Although I lived in Nagano City about 30 years ago, this was my first time visiting Yudanaka Onsen. We chose the historic "Yorozuya" based on my husband's recommendation from his previous stay, and both the accommodation and the two baths were exceptional. The "Momoyama Bath," a tangible cultural property, the Japanese garden's "Garden Open-Air Bath," and the new "Shinonome Bath" provided a relaxing experience that eased our daily fatigue. The meals were also delightful, featuring local ingredients that were gentle on the body with plenty of variety to enjoy. I ended up eating too much rice even at breakfast! The menu included beautiful illustrations drawn by the proprietress, which were so lovely that I took them home as souvenirs. My friend who joined me became an instant fan and said, "Let's come again next year!" The staff members were friendly with warm smiles, making our stay even more enjoyable. Choosing this accommodation was absolutely the right decision. The fresh green mountains were stunningly beautiful, making this trip to Shinshu after so long a heartwarming and memorable journey. Thank you to everyone at Yorozuya!

    Overall, the facilities are outdated.

    The overall aging of the Facility was expected, but the outdated aspects stood out. Particularly in the Japanese-Western Room I stayed in this time, I was surprised by the old-fashioned layout where you cannot go directly from the Japanese-style area to the Western-style area. Additionally, while it was a very spacious Room, the seating set (sofa and table) next to the bed in the Western-style area felt unnecessary and unused.

    An artistically designed bath.

    The traditional design of the bath was truly impressive, and the open-air Onsen with stone lanterns and towers added a unique charm. My companion, who loves Onsen, also thoroughly enjoyed the hot spring water. The Room's private bath was also supplied with Onsen water, offering a spacious and comfortable experience. The meals were exceptional, featuring local vegetables, fish, and meat. Each dish reflected careful preparation. The original miso sauce was particularly delightful; it could be used like a bagna cauda sauce for warm vegetables—a unique flavor not found elsewhere. The portions were just right, allowing us to finish everything without waste (the photo shows part of the meal; unfortunately, I forgot to capture an image of the thick marbled meat). Although some staff members seemed relatively new—perhaps due to it being Golden Week—they all worked earnestly and left a positive impression. The Facility was well-maintained overall, making this Accommodation one we would love to revisit. Thank you for your hospitality!

    This is a historic a...

    This is a historic accommodation. We stayed here for a family trip. The bath was nice, but the outdoor bath was a bit too hot to enter. It seemed just right the next day. The food was delicious, and the service was excellent. We would love to visit again.

    Relaxing Time

    To relieve the accumulated fatigue at the beginning of the new year, I visited Yorozuya. The young staff were lively and working energetically, allowing me to have a pleasant stay. The meals were served in a private room setting, providing a calm dining experience. Since it was a Room with two sections, I wonder if I can come with a large group next time.

    The bath, both the outdoor and indoor baths, as well as the ambiance, did not disappoint expectations. Especially, the service during meal times was extremely pleasant. When asked about ingredients, they went to the kitchen several times to provide sincere answers, and when I mentioned that the spicy miso was delicious, they gave me a suitable amount as a souvenir for snacking in the room after the meal. The landlady's training must be excellent. Thank you.

    A heartwarming Stays filled with subtle thoughtfulness

    My son stayed with his family and told me it was a "very nice property," so I had always wanted to stay there someday. Finally, this time, with my husband. While soaking in the elegant and tasteful Momoyama bath, I reflected on the history of Yudanaka. The tour that allowed us to explore the Momoyama bath after check-out with an explanation was also great. Embarrassingly, I was unaware of the 2021 fire, but I felt that it was because everyone at this ryokan was united in their efforts to rebuild that we received such heartwarming hospitality in every detail. Thanks to you, we were able to relax slowly. Thank you very much.

    Stays with low investment returns

    Although the Facility was old, the Onsen was lovely. Perhaps because I stayed at the end of the year, there wasn't a single dish that I found delicious. My impression was that there was no chef at the Facility, and the food was just taken out of packages made by vendors and arranged. Most of the dishes had a lot of miscellaneous flavors, and I couldn't eat even half of them. Since it was a highly rated Property on IKYU, I made the Reservation without any doubt, but I would like to be more careful in choosing in the future.

    A comfortable, nostalgic Stays

    The Momoyama-style bath was luxurious and, as everyone highly rated, it was truly wonderful. Each dish was elaborate, utilizing local ingredients. Moreover, the staff's explanation of the dishes was very polite and heartfelt, making the food taste even more delicious. If I have the opportunity, I would like to visit again.     Since it was a Japan...

    Since it was a Japanese-style room, they laid out the futon for me, but because I walk with a cane, they kindly raised the futon higher for me. It was very helpful as getting up and down is difficult without a bed. Although I have used Japanese-style rooms many times before, this was the first time I received such thoughtful service. The service from other staff was also impeccable. I was able to enjoy a leisurely and delicious meal in a private room. The open-air bath allowed me to relax while enjoying the scenery. I will definitely visit again someday.

    Warm "Omotenashi"

    It was a "hospitality" that satisfied us as an elderly couple. The food was delicious, and the casual explanations by the staff about the dishes made them even more enjoyable. As a fan of baths, I was impressed by the magnificent Momoyama-style bath in the pure Japanese architecture. The five-story pagoda, likely over 10 meters tall, made of stone in the garden of the open-air bath, was astonishing. The Onsen springing from beneath the pagoda at over 95 degrees was irresistible for an "Onsen lover like me." The open-air bath was spacious, and due to the season, there was a temperature difference between the entrance and the area near the pagoda, allowing one to experience the natural sensation of the bath. The temple-style architecture scattered here and there was also charming. "The steam of the Onsen doubles the sensation" - I am satisfied. It is one of the Onsen I would like to visit again.

    Atmospheric Momoyama-style bath

    I have stayed at Yamada Onsen, Kamiyama Onsen, and Okushiga in this area, but this was my first time at Yudanaka/Shibu Onsen. However, I was familiar with Tamamura Sake and Kijimadaira rice, which was nice. If you go a little further, there is the Jigokudani Monkey Park, so there seem to be many foreign guests. It seems like it's the season for monkey watching, so I think it will get busy. In that sense, I was able to spend a quiet time during the off-season. Even though it was late autumn, some of the maple leaves were still beautifully colored, and the open-air bath was wonderful. The Momoyama Bath, which is a selling point of this property, was quite nice. It was not crowded, perhaps because it was a weekday stay, and I enjoyed it to the fullest. It is understandable that it is registered as a cultural property. The property felt old, but the toilets and other facilities were renovated and comfortable. Since I was given a room on the upper floor, I could overlook Yudanaka Onsen, and the morning was refreshing and pleasant. Thank you very much. Also, my information was incorrect, and it almost became a disappointing situation, but the proprietress kindly investigated it for me, and I was saved. Thank you very much. The guide and the staff at the dining area were all earnest and hardworking. I felt the quality of the property's education. Recently, there are more properties where the staff just follow the manual and do their job without a sense of hospitality, but this place exceeded my expectations despite being a large property with many rooms. I think it was just right, not excessive. The meals were generally delicious. I think it would be even better if there were some iconic dishes. The heat conduction of the plate for grilling Shinshu beef was good, and there was no stress. (It's a small detail, but many places use ceramic plates for grilling meat, which don't sear well and are not to my liking, but this hot plate was good.) The soba was delicious. Breakfast was ordinary, but as expected, Kijimadaira rice was exceptional. I'm happy that good properties here serve Kijimadaira rice. The seasoning and everything were to my liking. Overall, there was nothing that made me go "huh?" and I was able to spend a comfortable time. Thank you very much. Since I travel alone to various onsens, I might drop by again. Best regards.

    I contracted COVID-1...

    I contracted COVID-19 two years ago and had to Cancel the Reservation, but I was finally able to visit this time. The bath was absolutely wonderful. The meals were delicious, and I was able to relax. It was a Ryokan that made me want to visit again.

    It is an ordinary traditional Ryokan.

    The architecture of Momoyama Onsen was wonderful, but there were no chairs in the changing room, so I had to use the hairdryer while standing. The amenities were ordinary. The room was neat, but the skin of the onsen manju on the table was dry. Dinner was tasty, but everything felt somewhat lacking, and it would be better to serve a properly sized Iwana. It was too small and had no fat at all. Also, regarding the order of the dishes, I think soba and clear soup should be served later rather than at the beginning. They made me full. How about serving only as much rice as one can eat at the end? Everyone left their bowls of rice, and I felt sorry thinking it would be wasted. If there were more seasonal items, it might have been more delicious. The sashimi and meat were tasty, so it felt like it was just one step away. I wished detox water was provided after the morning bath. It felt like it was not worth the price.

    One night is not enough, but even one night is incredibly fulfilling.

    I had a wonderful time with my friends from school after a break from raising children. We were able to choose a Room that could accommodate 7 people from various types of Rooms, and we enjoyed a harmonious meal together in a private dining Room. The Onsen was great, and the spaciousness of the bath allowed us to relax both physically and mentally. The outdoor bath in the early morning was also satisfying as we savored the history of the Onsen town. The pleasant atmosphere of the lobby and the convenience of the services were also excellent. We were able to take some special photos on the stairs. Lastly, what deserves special mention is how delicious the meals were. Everyone was impressed by the assortment of the menu, the quality of the ingredients, and the heartfelt taste of the cooking. When we asked if we could have the dessert in the Room as we were quite full, they suggested bringing the ice cream immediately and the fruits to the Room, showcasing their professionalism. We enjoyed the long autumn night in the Room.

    Did I expect too much?

    I was drawn to the registered tangible cultural property, the Momoyama bath, and booked "Yorozuya," but since the reviews were good, my expectations for the food and service were also high. First, the atmosphere of the lobby heightened my excitement. But... after that, it was a series of disappointments. There were noticeable spots of dust. There were no shower caps in the women's large bath, and although the hairbrushes were labeled "disinfected" in Japanese, they were not individually wrapped and were haphazardly placed in a basket, making me uneasy about whether all guests were observing proper manners, so I decided not to use them. The jacuzzi I was looking forward to was just an empty tub with a "broken" sign. I would have appreciated a word about it at check-in. After bathing, I tried to drink water in the changing room, but the tray was in the way, making it difficult to place the paper cup, and the bottom of the cup ended up soaking in the water accumulated in the tray, which was unsanitary, so I decided not to drink it. Although the dinner was served in order, the grilled fish was cold. The tempura with the soba was not just cold but cold to the core. The ankake was also cold. The food was not necessarily bad, but considering the accommodation fee, it was disappointing, and there were things I left uneaten because they didn't suit my taste. Even when I left the river fish sashimi, which had a strong flavor, there was no "Did it not suit your taste?" but just "May I take this away?" The service from the staff varied greatly among individuals, and there was often a sense of just following the manual. I think it would be a satisfactory level for a slightly lower-priced inn, but this is a reasonably priced inn. Although these are trivial matters, it turned out to be a stay with many frustrating aspects.
