    The Room with a view of the koi is very nice.

    We stayed in the annex where we could see the koi. The service seemed polite, but some parts—such as explanations of the dishes—were a bit rough. The meals were neither particularly good nor bad. The room was excellent and very clean, with wonderful housekeeping. Preferences may vary, but personally I would recommend Bankokuya next door instead.

    I was satisfied.

    We stayed here on the first night of our two-night trip to Yamagata. The food was excellent, and we were able to try the imoni stew we had been looking forward to at breakfast. The bath was spacious and relaxing, and the garden was beautiful. My spouse and I were both very satisfied. The welcome tama-konnyaku was delicious as well.

    The atmosphere of th...

    The atmosphere of the garden and the surrounding areas (such as the lounge) was wonderful, including the borrowed scenery of the mountains in the distance. The baths were also clean and had a great ambiance. I also got a good impression that the Room, hallways, and other areas seemed to be carefully maintained. On the other hand, what was a bit disappointing—partly because I had high expectations from Reviews—was the meals. The portions were sufficient, and there was a good variety. However, it’s hard to put into words, but neither my spouse nor I found anything that made us say, “This is really delicious!” It felt neither particularly good nor bad. Also, perhaps it’s just personal preference, but the dining area felt dim and didn’t lift my mood, so even in the morning I didn’t look forward to going for breakfast. Given how nice everything else was—the garden, baths, and overall feel of the property—it felt strange. There are many good points overall, and we could feel care in many details, so we hope you keep up your efforts.

    Very satisfied

    The location was great, and the Onsen was spacious with water quality I really liked, so it was a wonderful stay. The front desk staff—both international and Japanese—were kind and courteous. The meals were just the right amount, and we enjoyed them with delicious local ingredients.

    A Relaxing Time

    The Room has a kotatsu, and from the window we could see fresh green mountains and cherry blossoms, making it a relaxing place to unwind. We arrived a little earlier than planned, but were treated to tama-konnyaku, rested in the Room, and were able to take a bath right away. When we stepped out into the courtyard, many koi were swimming in the pond—it was a calming space. It was truly a wonderfully restful stay.

    The open-air bath is amazing!

    We stayed for 2 nights and 3 days in a Room with a semi-open-air bath, including breakfast and dinner. From arrival to departure, one staff member assisted us throughout. On the second day, I was delayed for dinner due to personal reasons. When I called, they prepared the dishes that could be served in advance, and everything afterward was handled smoothly. The open-air bath in the Room was spacious enough for two adults. The amenities were well stocked, and the toothbrush in particular was not too hard and very comfortable to use. We would like to stay again.

    A relaxing moment with a sunken kotatsu

    The courteous service and kind greetings from the front desk and all the staff we passed made us feel truly welcomed. While you can sense the building’s age, it is kept very clean, and we could tell how much everyone cares for this Ryokan. If I had to mention one thing, I would have liked a bit more variety in the meals, and for some dishes to be served a little warmer. Thank you very much for your hospitality.

    Absolutely satisfied!!!

    Check-in and check-out were smooth, and the in-house guidance was explained in detail. The Room was also wonderful! There were plenty of yukata, so I think women will be very satisfied. Both dinner and breakfast were served in a private room, and perhaps because we went on a weekday, there were few guests and it was quiet. The proprietress’s explanations of the dishes and her attentive service were perfect, so we could enjoy a delicious meal in a great mood! It was a fantastic Ryokan that made me want to come back again for sure! They also had various souvenirs available, which was very helpful! Thank you very much.

    We stayed with our 18-month-old child, and thanks to your kindness and the various services you provided, we were very satisfied. We have stayed many times at Accommodation costing more than twice as much, but considering the level of service, our satisfaction here was equal to or even greater.

    It made me want to come back again.

    It was my first return visit in a while, and I’d been looking forward to it. I was picked up by bus at the station, and the staff member was very courteous. Thank you. At the front desk, however, after check-in there was no guidance such as “the elevator is this way,” and I was only told to “please take a yukata as well,” even though I had my hands full with a suitcase and bag. When I wanted to ask where the elevator was, that person had already moved on to assisting the next guest. That part was very disappointing. The baths and open-air bath were warm even in the snow, and the changing area was clean. Above all, breakfast and dinner were excellent—truly delicious. During dinner, we felt the timing for the next dishes to be brought out was a little slow for us, but it also allowed us to relax, so it may have been fine. It was a wonderful Accommodation that made us say, “Let’s come again.” Thank you very much. One more thing: the high-pitched ringing noise from the Room ventilation fan bothered me quite a bit.

    - The Onsen is excellent. Whether it's the large indoor bath, open-air bath, or semi-open-air bath in the room, it always offers a "pleasant warmth" regardless of when you use it (even during a cold wave, especially on chilly mornings). You can feel the heat of the Onsen penetrating weak areas of your body (hands, feet, waist). Knowing this soothing water awaits makes stepping through snow to reach the open-air bath enjoyable. - The meals are delicious. Especially noteworthy is the dinner's buri-daikon; the daikon isn't just infused with broth and fish flavor but has an extraordinary taste beyond that. The Yamagata beef was cooked to perfection and led to overindulgence. For breakfast, the rice stands out for its flavor and cooking method. All side dishes pair perfectly with this rice. The Shonai-style imoni soup was also exquisite. Initially thought both dinner and breakfast portions were large but ended up finishing everything completely. Additionally, both meals were served in beautifully crafted dishes that added charm—satisfying not only my appetite but also my eyes and heart. - The ambiance within the accommodation is delightful. Hallways are subtly decorated with ikebana flower arrangements and Murakami lacquerware vases; detached rooms feature low ceilings by design for added coziness. The post-bath relaxation area near the large public baths is spacious yet minimally adorned—both spaces seem designed for guests to enjoy their surroundings at leisure fully. It made me want to stroll slowly around them all day long! Dining areas have a serene atmosphere featuring light-colored wood as their base theme complemented by decorative Japanese paper (possibly chiyogami?) accents while tables match harmoniously too—all creating calmness where delicious food served on elegant plates leaves one wondering: "When will I return next?" This time stayed in one of their detached rooms—a traditional Japanese-style setup consisting two tatami-matted spaces; one equipped kotatsu table arrangement adding extra charm despite being solo traveler who didn’t watch TV from there since wasn’t necessary given how well-decorated everything felt instead! Combining exceptional Onsen experiences alongside delectable cuisine amidst such comfortable atmospheric settings makes staying here truly memorable!

    It was a very satisfying stay.

    We stayed from New Year's Eve to New Year's Day. Arriving early, we enjoyed the snowy scenery of the rough waves of the Sea of Japan and relaxed in the lobby overlooking a beautiful garden. The room was spacious with a sunken kotatsu, providing a comfortable and relaxing atmosphere. However, we were surprised that there was no guidance to the room and that we had to prepare tea ourselves, but it seemed like an effective cost management strategy reflected in the pricing. While the room was large, it was slightly disappointing that the TV was small for watching year-end programs. The public bath was very spacious, and the onsen water felt wonderful. However, guests need to bring their onsen towel and bath towel from their room as no additional towels are provided; it's recommended to bring extra towels if you plan to wash your face in your room in the morning. The staff were all very friendly, and meals made with local ingredients were delicious. For New Year’s celebrations, sake, osechi dishes, and ozoni soup were prepared so we could fully enjoy a festive atmosphere. This accommodation offered just what we needed without excess or deficiency—a perfect place to thoroughly enjoy an onsen experience!

    The warm hospitality of the staff was truly wonderful, providing both physical and mental relaxation. I was delighted to see koi fish and ducks from the room and even feed them.     Tachibanaya offered a perfect blend of traditional elegance and modern comfort. The meals, both breakfast and dinner, were delicious with a seasonal touch and local flavors. It is an accommodation I would love to stay at again if given the chance.

    Unfortunately.

    The highest-ranked "Tachibana Kaiseki," featuring dishes such as "Grilled Nodoguro" and "Yamagata Beef Steak," attracted me to upgrade my meal plan. However, the "Grilled Nodoguro" was not served. Does this fall under the category of "menu items may vary by season"? During the meal, I noticed that Nodoguro was not listed on the menu and asked a staff member about it. After waiting for about 20 minutes, I was informed that from October, the menu had changed to include "Maitake Dobin Mushi" instead. After returning home, I saw a Google review from someone who posted September's menu with photos of both grilled fish and an autumn-themed Dobin Mushi. What exactly was this replacement dish supposed to be? Shouldn't accommodations be responsible for providing what is promised in their reservation details? If certain dishes cannot be served due to supply issues, shouldn't guests be informed at check-in about alternative offerings? This lack of transparency felt deceptive and left me with nothing but distrust. Following my feedback, both IKYU.com and the official website removed mentions of Nodoguro from their premium Kaiseki plan descriptions by October 22nd. However, those who booked this plan before that date should double-check their reservations carefully. I have no intention of staying here again but would recommend sticking with a standard plan if you do choose this accommodation. Upgrading doesn't seem worth it—the difference is negligible at best. While presentation is beautiful, ingredients are quite ordinary: tuna consisted only of lean cuts; fried fugu included mostly bony parts typically used in hot pot; and Maitake in Dobin Mushi felt underwhelming for a premium course. My expectations for a top-tier experience were unmet. To balance out my criticism: The facility itself was impeccably clean; while the view from our room's bath wasn't great, its water quality was excellent; we enjoyed delicious sake provided as part of Diamond benefits; and our request for a room near an entrance (to accommodate an elderly companion) was kindly fulfilled.

    Upon arrival, I was initially confused about the parking location. However, once inside, the bright and clean lobby opened up to a stunning view of a Japanese garden with large koi swimming gracefully. The staff were courteous and warm, providing heartfelt hospitality with detailed explanations during meals. The semi-open-air bath attached to the spacious Japanese-Western style room was a highlight, with windows that could be fully opened. It was a truly relaxing and blissful stay.

    Early Autumn Accommodation

    Arrived on a rainy evening. The garden in the courtyard was beautiful, and I wished I could have taken a walk if it had been sunny. The room was moderately spacious and comfortable, but it was disappointing that the indoor bath and toilet were combined. The flower arrangement at the entrance of the bath was stunningly beautiful. The water temperature of the bath was just right, allowing for a relaxing soak. Dinner was delicious, but there were many dishes using sea bream, which felt slightly repetitive. Overall, it was a good experience; however, it was unfortunate that there was no explanation about accommodation points during check-in.

    A traditional Onsen town.

    A visit to Atsumi Onsen after a long time. A few years ago, I stayed at the neighboring accommodation, but this time I chose Tachibanaya. Upon arrival, it felt like a classic Ryokan atmosphere. Guests of various generations were present, giving it a true Onsen Ryokan vibe. The souvenir shop was well-stocked, and from the lobby, you could see a beautiful Japanese garden. Contrary to its exterior appearance, the interior felt spacious and deep. This time, I stayed in a detached room, which was the main reason for choosing this accommodation. The detached room was spacious, offering views of the garden and even koi swimming up close from the terrace. Of course, there was a private bath in the room, and a small room with a sunken kotatsu where I could relax, making it a very satisfying stay. I also visited the large communal bath, but as it was a holiday period, it was quite crowded. The hot spring water in Atsumi has a salty and hot quality. Even a short soak warms you to the core and makes you sweat. In the private bath, you can adjust the water temperature to your liking, allowing for a relaxing soak and a truly healing experience. Meals were served in a private dining room exclusively for detached room guests. Both breakfast and dinner were filled with Yamagata's local ingredients and were delicious. The freshly harvested Tsuyahime rice was served, making it hard to stop eating. The hospitality was exceptional, especially the staff assigned to our room, who was incredibly polite and kind. They were so impressive that I even mentioned them by name in the accommodation's feedback survey. When visiting Atsumi Onsen again, I would definitely choose this accommodation and stay in a detached room. Looking forward to visiting again.

    A wonderful and splendid accommodation

    We received a warm welcome upon arrival, showcasing the unique hospitality of the Ryokan. The Room was so spacious that it felt extravagant for just two people. The meals were excellent. However, the restroom could use some renovation as it did not match the elegance of the Ryokan.

    Everyone provided excellent hospitality naturally.

    I couldn't believe such an Onsen still exists. The actions of the staff, everything warmed my heart. I found this Onsen after searching a lot to make my mother happy. The meals, room facilities, hot spring quality, and the dedication of the staff—everything moved me deeply. If my mother remains in good health, I would love to visit again next year.     We deeply appreciate the accommodation for meeting our detailed requests, especially when some accommodations cannot even cater to seasoning preferences. When my mother felt unwell, we were grateful for the concern shown by many staff members. Fortunately, it was just fatigue, and she recovered the next day without any issues. The meals were very generous in portion size, and I was delighted to see my mother almost finish everything despite usually leaving food behind. However, due to her dentures, there were some items she wanted to eat but couldn't chew properly, which was unfortunate. We are thankful for the flexibility with meal times as well. The onsen was spacious and relaxing, and the garden was beautiful. It would have been helpful if there had been a note near our room's garden mentioning that we could access it from the lounge area. We also didn't realize that towels for three days had been provided together and ended up using too many at once; a brief explanation during room orientation would have been appreciated. Being in a detached building at the farthest end made it quite a walk to reach the dining area—though understandable given its location—it might be nice if there’s an easier way in place someday. For us personally, it turned out beneficial as rehabilitation exercise! The only regret is that my mother couldn’t enjoy soaking in the onsen due to her fatigue and health condition. Since it was summer vacation season and only detached rooms with private onsens were available at a higher price point this time around, we hope to try staying in other rooms next time. Special thanks go out to your reservation staff who patiently answered all of our questions multiple times and handled forgotten items kindly—even addressing misunderstandings on our part—which ensured comfort both before arrival and after departure.     It was a wonderful e...

    It was a wonderful experience. Although we arrived late, we were guided to the parking lot and provided with shuttle service even at a late hour. The staff included some international members, but it had been a while since I stayed at an accommodation with mostly Japanese guests, which made it very comfortable. The hotel staff who guided us was very professional and charming. The room was spacious and allowed us to relax fully. In the open-air bath, there were two frogs which surprised me a little. However, in the morning, I noticed goldfish swimming around the open-air bath area, creating an elegant atmosphere. The washing area was also spacious and convenient. If possible, I think having more variety in shampoo and conditioner would be nice since they are provided anyway. At night in the lounge, the sofas were soft; adding just a bit more beads would make it perfect at 120 points! The newly created space was beautiful. I don’t often get to visit Tohoku, but next time I’d like to come back with meals included!

    It was such a wonderful accommodation that it makes it hard to go to any other. The thoughtful attention to detail left my sisters, who accompanied me, deeply impressed without a single complaint. My mother, who rarely smiles these days, showed a smile after seeing the photo we received—it had been a long time since I saw her so happy. It became an incredibly precious memory for us.     Gourmet Accommodation

    Atsumi Onsen was my first visit, and it was quiet and relaxing. The cuisine at Tachibanaya was visually stunning and delicious, with great attention to detail in the tableware. The sashimi from the Sea of Japan was exceptionally tasty. It would be wonderful if there were a plan focused on quality over quantity for seniors. I found myself overeating this time, but as a senior, I feel I can't eat as much as before... The onsen is slightly hot but very effective for relieving fatigue. I would love to revisit this accommodation at a leisurely pace again.

    I had a very relaxing time.

    I have visited Atsumi Onsen many times, but this was my first stay at this accommodation. The detached room faced the garden and featured a sunken kotatsu and an onsen bath, allowing for a truly relaxing experience. While the view from the bathroom window wasn't great, opening it fully created a semi-open-air feel where you could enjoy the breeze while soaking in the onsen. Having a second gathering around the sunken kotatsu while admiring the garden was delightful. The staff were attentive to every detail, and fresh flowers placed throughout the room and facility caught my eye. The meals were also very delicious. However, I felt that adding some "newness" or "innovation" might enhance the experience further. If there were signature dishes unique to Tachibanaya that guests could look forward to, it might attract more repeat visitors. I was particularly pleased with receiving "welcome tamakonnyaku" instead of just a welcome drink! It would be nice if some rooms offered an all-inclusive option as well. Regarding facilities, while there seem to be renovated rooms and areas within the property, there is still an overall sense of age in some parts. I hope attention is given to even minor details (for example, lingering tobacco smells from when smoking may have been allowed previously or worn-out areas that could pose safety risks—I mentioned these during checkout). Lastly—and this is not an issue with the ryokan itself but rather with other guests—I noticed poor manners in shared spaces like leaving cushions scattered around or using them with wet hair after bathing, leaving trash behind, or letting children run around noisily without supervision in public areas like the newly renovated lobby space which otherwise seemed very comfortable. Public space etiquette is important for everyone’s enjoyment! Regardless of these points, I absolutely want to visit this ryokan again someday—next time staying in a room with an open-air bath!

    A must-visit accommodation again

    The shuttle service staff, front desk staff, and dining service staff were all excellent. The meals, featuring local ingredients unique to Yamagata, were highly satisfying. This is an accommodation I would definitely like to visit again.
