Maybe I expected too much?
I had high expectations because many guests said the meals were excellent, but honestly I was disappointed. Some of the plating made me wonder, though overall it felt average. I could tell a lot of time and effort went into it, but aside from the rice, nothing in particular stood out, and overall it wasn’t satisfying.

A soulful Accommodation steeped in history
Full of retro charm, with excellent service—I was very satisfied. The only disappointment was that the sparkling wine I had requested in advance wasn’t chilled when it was served with the meal.

We were very satisfied with the service and the meals.
Despite being assisted by international staff, the service was outstanding, with excellent language use and thoughtful attention to detail, and we were very satisfied. The meals were delicious across the board, not only seafood, and we were impressed by the care taken to serve each course at just the right time based on our dining pace. Our 4-year-old grandchild must have been tired and fell asleep during dinner, but you kindly made a bed using chairs beside our table so we could continue our meal without having to take them back to the Room, for which we are truly grateful.

Enjoy warm hospitality and delicious cuisine in a nostalgic Showa-era atmosphere.
We were able to fully enjoy the atmosphere of this cultural heritage property with a charming Showa-era retro feel. In a quiet setting, we enjoyed the Onsen and delicious meals. The hospitality was relaxed and unhurried, helping us forget the bustle of the city. Next time, we hope to try the fugu cuisine.

The resident cat, Myu-chan, welcomed us and it was so soothing. The Room was on the first floor and very lovely. The massage chair was also very comfortable. To get to the bath, you go up to the second floor and pass through the courtyard (sandals are provided), then take the stairs again to what I think is the third floor. It felt exciting, but it was quite a workout, so I only went once. I wanted to go at night too, but since there was a large bath in the Room, I was satisfied. Spending time with the cats was relaxing and fun. Myu-chan, please live a long life—I’d love to see you again.

On my first trip to Aichi, I visited the Tokugawa Art Museum.
We were truly relaxed by all the staff’s wonderful smiles and the delicious dinner and breakfast. Dinner also included a sashimi platter, but I forgot to take a photo. It was also very generous in portion and delicious. The Room had a great atmosphere, and (I usually end up sleep-deprived when staying away from home because of my husband’s snoring) I slept surprisingly soundly. Thank you very much for taking such good care of us in so many ways.

I stayed in the Hagi...
I stayed in the Hagi Room, which was also used in the film “Tsuribaka Nisshi 2.” Both the meals and the building were outstanding. I travel twice a month, and the price was so reasonable it felt like about half the usual market rate. However, the only drawback when visiting Kakujouro in May is the small insects that seem to be present throughout the area, like fruit flies. During dinner, I crushed at least 10 by the time we got to the sashimi (probably around 30 in total), and some even flew into the soy sauce and died there, making it hard to focus on eating. My stress level was at its maximum. Also, if possible, I would like you to set a later Shuttle Service time to the morning ferry terminal. Even though check-out is at 11:00, leaving the Accommodation at 9:00 feels too soon—I hate to leave so early… I will definitely visit again!

It was a charming Accommodation.
It was an impressive, old mansion-style Accommodation located in a residential neighborhood. The fresh seafood was delicious, and we were very satisfied. The staff were courteous in both welcoming us and seeing us off. However, I was concerned about the small insects floating in the open-air bath.

A Ryokan that blends the best of tradition and modern comfort
We were impressed by the warm hospitality and delicious cuisine. The Facility also preserves the charm of the past while covering any inconveniences with modern amenities. It may be better to visit without too much extra information in advance.

We had a relaxing stay.
The “Sora” room was very clean, quiet, and extremely relaxing. The property is carefully run by foreign female staff, and I felt that if people with xenophobic views saw how well they work, their opinions might change. The food was tasty, but it didn’t leave a strong impression. With the IKYU point rebate there was a significant discount, so it felt worth the price; however, at the pre-discount rate I would have been dissatisfied. The Onsen is a slightly larger-than-average standard bath, and the shower water pressure is weak. I’ve mentioned various points, but for us—who simply wanted to relax in peace—it was a very good Ryokan. Thank you very much. We appreciated the warm welcome on arrival and send-off at departure.

The service was excellent.
I stayed at the detached room "Tsuyukusa." The staff handling meals and guidance were foreigners. While it was sometimes hard to understand them clearly, they were very polite, charming, and made us smile with their efforts. The natural tiger puffer fish was also incredibly delicious. The room had some issues with the water facilities; the sink would clog while washing my face, and the bathtub drained out over time. It felt like the age of the facilities couldn't be hidden. In the large public bath's open-air section, I noticed hair floating in the water and left quickly. It was disappointing given how good the reviews were.

Accommodation for the purpose of staying.
Arrive at the accommodation just in time for check-in and relax until check-out. Start with a beer after a bath, accompanied by steaming hot oden. Then enjoy the much-anticipated meal—local seafood, fresh vegetables, tender meat, and delicious new rice. Afterward, unwind in the room; whether on the bed or sofa, the spacious room with underfloor heating is perfectly comfortable. Drift off into a dream world and wake up to morning bliss with an amazing private bath in your room. Breakfast is equally satisfying with extra servings of rolled omelet for a perfect start to the day. Though we didn’t do any sightseeing and simply went back and forth, it turned out to be a wonderful anniversary trip!

Stayed in the main building.
Stayed in the annex on the first visit, and this time in the main building. The system of entrusting everything, from front desk reception to meal service, to foreign staff is impressive. While it might seem like a bold move expecting complaints, all staff were fluent in Japanese and there were no issues at all. The food was upgraded as well, with an impressive boat platter featuring Ise lobster. Thank you for the fresh sashimi. What was disappointing: no coffee served after breakfast. Even though there’s a self-service dispenser available, it wasn’t accessible in the morning. Morning is when I really want coffee! Also, there were no razors provided in the bath area—why not? Because of these points, I felt that what I paid didn’t quite match up to my expectations.

I had a relaxing time!
- The staff were very kind and provided excellent service. - It was a bit disappointing that the water in the large public bath was slightly lukewarm. - The Room was a bit small this time, so it felt slightly cramped. - Overall, I am very satisfied.

Thank you for your kind assistance.
I took my elderly mother with me. Since I made the reservation in a hurry, we were initially scheduled for a room with a bath on the 4th floor. However, after observing my mother's condition, the staff and the hostess immediately suggested changing to a room on the 1st floor of an affiliated accommodation. They kindly provided shuttle service by car for each meal, which was greatly appreciated. The room we stayed in had a massage chair that helped relieve my fatigue from long-distance driving!

I stayed for one nig...
I stayed for one night. I was very satisfied with the service and meals, and the staff who guided me (a woman from Nepal) was polite and kind. However, regarding the Onsen, it was quite disappointing for someone who loves hot springs. Perhaps it was my misunderstanding, but the private open-air bath attached to the room was not an Onsen. Moreover, it seemed like it wasn't used often as even the staff member who showed me to my room didn't seem familiar with its existence, so I ended up not using it. Rather than being an Onsen Ryokan with delicious food, I felt this place is more of a cuisine-focused Ryokan.

A nostalgic accommodation...
A nostalgic accommodation that had caught my attention for a while. As soon as you enter the lobby, you forget you're in the middle of a residential area. The glossy texture of the aged wood and the unique distortion of old glass, through which you can view the courtyard—it's truly wonderful. The room this time was separate from the main building, requiring a short walk outside to reach it. It was said to be the best room in this accommodation—a two-story maisonette type. The second floor is uniquely designed with all water facilities concentrated there, while the first floor consists of a living area and tatami room. The second floor includes a bedroom, an open-air bath, shower booth area, and even has a spacious terrace. Surrounded by residential houses, privacy is well-maintained with bamboo blinds around the open-air bath—though technically it might be considered semi-open-air. Between 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM after check-in, light snacks along with beer or other alcoholic beverages and juices are available at the dining area. Both dinner and breakfast feature kaiseki cuisine focused on local ingredients—a substantial number of dishes with generous portions overall. Friendly cats roam around inside this accommodation adding to its charm. Now for some concerns: The roads surrounding this accommodation are narrow; larger vehicles may struggle navigating them. Additionally, parking spaces are tight so caution is advised for minivans or SUVs. Since traditional architecture is used throughout this facility, it lacks barrier-free accessibility entirely—with steep stairs being one example. The most disappointing issue was related to our room named "Fukuju." There was an unpleasant odor around its open-air bath area—not initially noticeable but later identified as coming from drainage beneath its bathtub flooring resembling sewage smells which made staying uncomfortable here urgently needs improvement! While I considered donating towards maintaining such historic structures after experiencing poor upkeep affecting basic comfort levels decided against doing so instead disappointedly concluded despite enjoying ambiance service meals & overall quality accommodations cannot recommend returning unless these issues addressed properly moving forward!

A Relaxing Accommodation
This was my first stay, and I had a very relaxing and enjoyable time. The building has historical charm, and the room was renovated with great attention to detail, making it a clean and comfortable space. Although the staff included foreign members, even the new employees provided very polite service. For meals, I added some local specialties to the standard menu, which allowed me to enjoy them visually, savor their taste, and appreciate them wholeheartedly; the portions were also sufficient. I would love to visit again in a different season.

It was a historic and beautiful old accommodation.
Finally visited the long-admired Kakujourou. A beautiful accommodation with a rich history. Preservation must be challenging, but please keep up the great work. The meals were excellent, both dinner and breakfast. I will visit again!

Room lacking cleanliness
The room was not cleaned properly at all. Immediately after the explanation of the room, we found hair in the kettle, on the tatami in the living area, and on the bed. In the bathtub of the private bathroom, we discovered at least 8 strands of hair and body hair (we checked before bathing, so it wasn’t ours). It was unpleasant, so we couldn’t use the private bath. There were also large dust particles in the sink area, making us think that vacuuming or wiping down surfaces and cleaning of bathtubs hadn’t been done. We were hesitant to use any amenities in fear but ended up washing and using cups and glasses from our room. The shower took over 10 minutes to produce hot water; it was a fixed ceiling type with water spraying unevenly everywhere, making it difficult even to wash our faces properly. As for meals, they were just large portions without quality—the sashimi was dry with no freshness whatsoever. The lobster salad had an overwhelming odor that made both my spouse and I stop after one bite. The miso soup was too salty to drink. We’ve stayed at many accommodations before but rarely have encountered one as disappointing as this. We chose this place based on its excellent reviews but perhaps caught them on an off day? Unfortunately, we cannot recommend this accommodation to others.

Hospitality that satisfies all five senses
We are a couple of late-stage elderly people enjoying Onsen throughout the whole country, and it was "hospitality" that satisfied our five senses. A modest welcome, a reception area with a faint scent of incense, and fresh flowers (mainly baby's breath) in the lobby, corridors, and Room welcomed us. What impressed us most was that the same foreign woman greeted us at the entrance, handled reception in the lobby, and guided us to our Room with explanations; it felt friendly. The building is also an important cultural property with shoji screens that make a charming sound (kata kata) when blown by the wind. The meals were made from local (Irago) ingredients; fish and vegetables were fresh and delicious. The open-air bath in our Room allowed us to gaze at the stars in the night sky—a moving experience. Meal service and explanations were provided by the same foreign woman who first received us at reception in the lobby and guided us to our Room; her fluent Japanese explanations made the food even more delicious. Payment and farewell were also handled by this friendly foreign woman who initially showed us to our Room, allowing us to leave Ryokan feeling warmly connected. It was a trip where we wanted to add this Ryokan as one of those we wish to visit again. The room I stayed in was "the room used for filming Tsuribaka." Thank you very much.

Retro Property
The retro and nostalgic atmosphere of the main building is something that cannot be artificially created, and this Property retains that wonderful feeling abundantly. The Room was also clean, but next time I would like to stay in the main building. The meals were satisfying in both volume and taste, and I enjoyed them. The public bath was decent except for the weak water pressure in the showers. I recommend staying here after learning about the history of this area to better appreciate its charm.

A Ryokan with a retro atmosphere
I was able to relax in a nostalgic Showa retro atmosphere. The food, including fish sashimi and fugu, was delicious and paired well with hirezake, leaving me satisfied. Additionally, the inclusive time from 3 to 5 allowed me to leisurely enjoy beer. The breakfast, especially the rolled omelet, was very tasty. I was satisfied with the meals. The Ryokan's cat was friendly and very cute.

Since it was a barrier-free Room, I took my 93-year-old mother with peace of mind. The Room was wheelchair accessible as stated, but there were no handrails in the bath and toilet, which was very difficult. The service provided by the Nepalese woman was very good.

Relax, unwind, and feel good.
My spouse and I have been staying here about once a year for the past two years, making a reservation whenever we remember. The most enjoyable part, after all, is the delicious breakfast and dinner. This time, as expected, we were able to relax in the onsen, making it a delightful one-night stay. Thank you, thank you.

Taisho Roman
The Stays was an architectural piece of Taisho romance, like a scene from a movie. I visited with my mother who has dementia, and there was an open-air bath in the room, allowing her to bathe at her own pace (it might be cold in the middle of winter). From 3 PM to 5 PM, there was a happy hour with unlimited drinks, and it was fun to use the beer server. The dinner was delicious, and above all, the chairs were comfortable, making it easy to assist my mother. The bath was small, but we could relax in it. The breakfast, like the dinner, had delicious fish. Except for the steep stairs, everything was perfect for my elderly parents to relax, and it was a great value for the price, making it the best Stays.
