    Not worth the price.

    I knew the Accommodation was old, but I visited on the fireworks festival Plan and was not told that bringing a leisure sheet would allow entry to the priority area, so I almost ended up taking my own sheet. Even setting aside the old tatami mats, there were peeling and torn shoji screens, a cracked toilet lid patched with duct tape, holes in the sheets, a large buildup of ice in the refrigerator, and although there is a fee for bringing in your own items, everything inside the refrigerator is also charged. At this price point, items in the refrigerator should be free; if not, then please leave it empty with no bring-in fee. I was shocked by how outdated this approach is.

    Both the cuisine and the hospitality were excellent.

    Just as the Reviews said, every dish we had been looking forward to was truly delicious. We were impressed by the careful seasoning and attention to detail, even in the side dishes. The Facility felt historic, but everything—including the bath—was well maintained and very clean. We were looking for an Accommodation with a tatami Room so it would be comfortable for our one-year-old. We were a bit nervous that our child might touch the hanging scrolls or shoji screens, but our meals were served separately from other guests, and it was still very easy to spend time here even with a child. Above all, everyone at the Accommodation was warm and welcoming, which made our stay truly comfortable. We’re sorry for any trouble caused by our child, but we sincerely appreciated your kind support until the very end. We visited as a family to celebrate my parents’ 60th birthday, and they were extremely satisfied. It became a once-in-a-lifetime family memory. Thank you very much.

    Authentic Japanese-style Ryokan

    This is a rare, authentic Japanese-style Ryokan where you can dine in your Room. The cuisine is outstanding. Warm dishes are thoughtfully served so you can enjoy them while they are still hot, and the rice portion is adjusted for each guest. The baths, including an open-air bath with daily rotation between men and women, were very relaxing. If I had to mention one drawback, the futon bedding is a bit thin and my back felt sore the next day. The phone service also felt a little curt. I would definitely like to stay again.

    A charming, traditional Ryokan.

    The building is certainly old, but it is well maintained, and the attentive service from the woman in charge of our Room let us experience the charming atmosphere of a good old Ryokan that is hard to find these days. The in-Room bath was comfortable and felt like you could soak forever. The meals were excellent in both taste and presentation, and we enjoyed them very much. Away from the crowded bustle around the station, we were able to spend a relaxing time in a calm atmosphere. I think this is a Facility I can recommend.

    I stayed on the day of the fireworks festival.

    Although the Ryokan is a bit old, it was kept very clean and carefully maintained. It is within walking distance of the fireworks festival venue, and the exterior has a charming traditional Japanese style. The Room was spacious, and the view of the trees from the window, along with the attentive service, was very relaxing. Both dinner and breakfast served in the Room were delicious. They arranged for a massage therapist for me, and the massage was excellent—I was very satisfied. I especially loved the open-air bath at the large public bath, so I would definitely like to stay here again when I visit Atami.

    A weekend trip for five men

    The building and rooms have a charming, retro Showa-era feel, but they were well cleaned and felt very fresh. It may not suit those looking for the latest facilities or modern construction, but I personally liked it. Because the building is older, you can hear some noise from the floor above, but everyone seemed to spend their time quietly, so it didn’t bother me. The bath was wonderful and very relaxing. The service and hospitality were consistently friendly and polite with a natural warmth—excellent overall. However, I did feel slightly rushed because the pace of serving the meals was a bit fast. Still, the food was very delicious. I would like to stay again if I have the chance.

    We had a very relaxing stay.

    We were able to relax very comfortably. The Room layout was well designed, and we were able to spend peaceful time in each space. Although it is an old-style Japanese Room, it was a Room that made us want to come back again. The bath in the separate annex was wonderful—an incredibly soothing bath that blew away our everyday fatigue. The massage chair was excellent and felt like being kneaded by human hands; it was the best. A Mongolian staff member prepared the in-Room meal for us, and they were very kind and pleasant—another wonderful memory from our trip. Thank you very much.

    The food was excellent! I’d love to visit again.

    As other Reviews mention, the food is truly outstanding. Rather than relying on luxury ingredients, it feels like seasonal produce is handled with great care. It may not suit those looking for flashy dishes, but if you want deeply satisfying flavors, a real sense of dashi, and to experience professional cooking that seems simple yet is impossible to replicate at home, I highly recommend it. You can feel the attention to detail even in the tableware. We finished both dinner and breakfast, and this was an Accommodation we definitely want to revisit in another season. The building is certainly older, but it is kept very clean. Since using stairs cannot be avoided, I think it’s best to keep that in mind when you Reserve. The Onsen was a comfortable size and very relaxing. It would feel more reassuring if the hair dryer in the lower bath were more powerful and the area around the outlet were repaired.

    I meant to relax, but I ended up feeling even more tired.

    I haven’t had a day off since the New Year, so I booked this stay to make some time and relax, but it was disappointing. In any case, everything felt rushed. It constantly felt like the attendant was in the Room, and I could not settle down at all. I wanted to read quietly in a calm Onsen, but that was completely impossible. I was especially surprised to find a notice on the table explaining that an expensive corkage fee would be charged—particularly in this day and age. The final straw was when I had just briefly soaked in the open-air bath in the Room and was hurriedly changing for checkout, yet they came into the Room without hesitation and said with a straight face, “Please pay now in advance for the drinks from the refrigerator.” I fully understand that meals are served in the Room, but I was spoken to constantly and could not relax at all. The food was very ordinary; the tuna rice bowl I ate at Atami Station’s station building on my way there was far better. Hot water also takes a long time to come out of the shower by the open-air bath in the Room. And as for the Onsen itself, it felt far from being water that warms you through to your core. Even though it was fireworks day, there were quite a lot of vacant Rooms—which probably explains everything. I came intending to unwind, but ended up more tired instead. I think this Accommodation is not suitable to be listed on IKYU’s site.

    A charming, nostalgic Showa-era Accommodation

    Used by a couple in our 60s. After passing through lively downtown Atami and walking downhill for about 20 minutes, it becomes quiet once you get near Kinomiya Station. The decor is simple yet thoughtfully minimal, with no wasteful touches. We were able to relax. Despite the small number of guests, there are two large public baths, so it felt spacious with only one or two people. My husband especially liked the open-air bath in our Room. Having a bed was also very comfortable. We ended up lounging as soon as we arrived—and again after bathing. The meals were all carefully prepared, and the dashi broth was exceptionally good. Everything was delicious. When I mentioned that floor chairs were difficult for me, they provided a raised chair, which helped a lot. Ideally, I would have preferred dining at a table with chairs; perhaps they could have arranged that if we had requested it in advance. It felt like a good old Showa-era Accommodation updated with modern comforts and Facility features. Thank you very much.

    Wonderful Accommodation

    A traditional Ryokan with a nostalgic atmosphere. The Room was spacious—almost too large for just three people. Everything was spotless, and we could feel the attentive hospitality. The food was delicious, and we enjoyed both dinner and breakfast at our Room at a relaxed pace. The staff made our stay truly comfortable, and we had a wonderful time. Thank you. This Accommodation offers a sense of charm and wabi-sabi you won’t find in a Hotel, along with the feeling of ichigo ichie—treasuring each once-in-a-lifetime encounter.

    We stayed here as a couple on the first night of our trip to Atami and Oku-Yugawara. Thank you for taking care of us. It is a long-established Ryokan. The meals were very delicious. In particular, the extra spiny lobster dish was excellent, including the miso soup in the morning. However, one disappointing thing was that the drain in the washing area of the bath had not been cleaned and was clogged, so it would not drain. My husband cleaned it for us. The attendant was very kind, so we did not mention it... Also, there is a step at the entrance to the Ryokan, and the parking lot is on a steep slope, so we thought it might be better not to come in a sports-type car.

    A Charming Accommodation

    The building had a charming, old-fashioned atmosphere, but the water facilities, toilets, and open-air bath have been renovated and feel very clean. The open-air bath was always at the perfect temperature, no matter when I used it—I was very satisfied. In-Room dining was served at just the right timing. You could really feel the head chef’s careful work in each dish, and everything was delicious. I ordered warm sake, and it was served with the sake cup placed in a bowl of hot water—I was truly impressed. It was my first time experiencing such thoughtful attention. I will definitely visit again.

    It was comfortable.

    From arrival to departure, the staff's hospitality at the accommodation was exceptional, making for a very comfortable stay. The bath facilities were spacious and never crowded, and the thoughtful arrangement of switching between men's and women's baths in the morning and evening was appreciated. The upper-floor bath even had massage chairs, which was a delightful touch. The meals were delicious; however, although I initially requested in-room dining, I was strongly encouraged to dine at the restaurant just before my stay. While they eventually accommodated my request for in-room dining, it would have been helpful to be informed of any circumstances in advance.

    Did IKYU check the accommodation in advance?

    We visited Atami during the New Year holidays and chose our stay based on the star rating. However, the Facility was outdated, and the food differed from the photos, which felt like a case of misleading presentation. We kindly request IKYU to thoroughly inspect properties before ranking them. Compared to Atami Sekitei, it was honestly incomparable. We have trusted IKYU.com's grading system so far as it has often been reliable, and we hope to continue trusting it in the future.

    A serene and charming inn

    The staff are kind and warm. The cuisine was delicate and delicious. The building seems to have historical significance (apparently it used to be a separate residence of the Otani family from New Otani), and you can feel its charm throughout. However, there is no elevator, which makes moving to the large public bath a bit inconvenient. Other than that, the Onsen's water quality was excellent!

    Enjoyed fresh seafood and relaxing Onsen.

    We visited to enjoy fish and the Onsen. The atmosphere was calm and different from a Hotel, allowing us to relax comfortably in the Room. We finished both dinner and breakfast without leaving anything behind. The sashimi's thickness was unique to this place—each ingredient like sea bream, sea urchin, and scallops had its distinct rich flavor. Breakfast was simple yet delightful with just the right number of dishes. The grilled horse mackerel was cooked perfectly—fluffy, tender, and absolutely delicious. Thank you for your hospitality!

    We stayed here for a long-awaited family trip. The room, meals, and onsen created a wonderful atmosphere for lively family conversations, making our stay truly fulfilling. Even my grandmother in her late 80s was delighted, and I’m glad we chose Sanpeiso. We would love to visit again.

    Akebono Room with Open-Air Bath

    The Akebono Room was said to have a private garden, but in reality, it is a shared garden, making it practically inaccessible. It seems that the outdoor baths of other rooms are fully visible. Therefore, as shown in the photos of this room's bath, entering without the "bamboo screen" for privacy would require considerable courage. (In fact, the roll curtain could not be raised.)

    A Trip to Atami with Childhood Friends

    Due to unexpected rain, we arrived early at Sanpeiso and were kindly accommodated. The staff's attentive service allowed us to check into our Room earlier, giving us a relaxing time with friends. The meals were beautifully presented and thoroughly enjoyable, leaving us feeling pleasantly full. We also enjoyed the Onsen both at night and in the morning—it was so warm that it felt almost too hot! We are deeply grateful for the assistance of the Room attendant. We would love to visit again if given the chance.

    The room features a traditional Japanese design, with an Onsen attached to the room where you can relax while enjoying the garden. The meals were delicious, making for a wonderful memory. However, as it is a Ryokan, the fixed schedule for meal preparation and cleanup, as well as futon setup and removal, felt somewhat restrictive. A bit more flexibility in these aspects would make it perfect.

    A 60-year-long friendship gathering. It might have been lively, but everyone left satisfied. The bath was great, the meals were excellent, and we enjoyed a relaxing time in a calm atmosphere. Thank you very much!

    A Traditional and Charming Accommodation

    The ryokan had an old-fashioned charm, creating a traditional and atmospheric experience. I can't recall if it was on the first or second floor, but the onsen was excellent. There was also a massage chair, and I wish I had more time to enjoy a full course of relaxation. I chose a plan with breakfast included, and it was wonderful to have such a luxurious meal served in the room. Although I couldn't finish everything because I was so full, I almost wanted to ask for seconds of the rice! There were some parts that felt outdated, but if you can embrace that aspect, it's a very comfortable accommodation. The staff members were doing their best despite their age—I hope this place continues for many years to come!

    The spacious Room allowed our entire family to relax comfortably. The nostalgic tatami added charm, and we enjoyed a leisurely meal in the Room. The staff's attentive care was greatly appreciated. The bath was so pleasant that we could have stayed in it forever.

    Not attentive.

    Due to a leg injury, I was unable to walk and arrived at the accommodation by taxi. While it was helpful that staff carried my luggage up the many stairs within the accommodation, I had informed them in advance that a taxi would be absolutely necessary for my 11:00 AM checkout the next day. However, when the time came, no taxi reservation had been made. Due to rain and high demand, it became impossible to secure a taxi. Other guests seemed to have their taxis reserved in advance, so it appeared that my reservation request had been overlooked. During checkout, staff called for a taxi while I waited. Meanwhile, another guest's pre-arranged taxi arrived at the accommodation. I asked if they could negotiate with the driver to make an additional trip for me but was refused assistance. When I asked if waiting 30 minutes might result in securing a booking, they replied that they were unsure how long it would take—possibly hours—and said there was nothing they could do because of the rain. I then requested assistance from one of their staff members to accompany me and help carry my luggage as I attempted walking toward the station myself; however, this request was also denied. In the end, despite dragging an injured leg and carrying heavy suitcases through pouring rain for over 30 minutes on foot, no support or alternative solutions were provided. Despite reserving a room with an open-air bath costing nearly ¥100,000 per night expecting premium service quality and hospitality standards matching such pricing levels—I left deeply disappointed by their lack of care or effort shown towards resolving basic customer needs like transportation arrangements during adverse weather conditions especially knowing beforehand about reliance upon taxis arriving/departing premises under circumstances requiring extra attention proactively ensuring smooth experiences overall!

    Luxurious Full-Service Accommodation

    We were able to enjoy luxurious, traditional services that are becoming rare nowadays, such as futon preparation and in-room dining, which brought a sense of nostalgia. Thanks to this, we were able to relax and fully enjoy our room. Traveling with children, the in-room dining was incredibly helpful. The bath was very clean and stylish, with unlimited towels available, reflecting the love the ryokan owner has for their guests and accommodation. The staff were warm and natural, showing pride in their work. We would love to visit again. Thank you very much!

    A Relaxing Holiday for the Whole Family

    A long-awaited onsen trip with the family to celebrate our son's special occasion! We stayed at an accommodation that retains the nostalgic charm of the Showa era. It brought back fond memories for us, while features like the sunken kotatsu were a fresh experience for the kids. The upper onsen allowed us to relax while enjoying views of a beautifully maintained garden, which was very satisfying. As for the lower onsen, I felt it would have been better if both the bath and changing area were slightly more spacious. The meals were not extravagant but offered a delightful taste and visual sense of spring. I particularly enjoyed the grilled eggplant with miso served at breakfast. However, since it was kaiseki cuisine, having draft beer or local sake from Izu would have been a nice addition. Despite being in central Atami, we found ourselves in a surprisingly quiet environment where each family member could enjoy their time—whether watching TV lazily, knitting, reading books, or warming up in the onsen together.

    It was excellent!

    I found this place for a trip to Atami with my 1.5-year-old child, as it is close to the city, has an onsen in the room, and seems quiet with greenery. I made a reservation. It's a historical ryokan, and I was worried about my child causing trouble, but everyone at the ryokan was really kind. The food was also wonderful. I like Atami but get tired of fish-only meals; however, this kaiseki had a variety from meat to vegetables. We were told it's okay to take our child to the shared bath, so we used it too. The bath on the second floor was especially great. The water was hot so our child couldn't enter, but the approach from the courtyard and open-air bath were very beautiful and quiet. The bath on the lower floor was lukewarm enough for us! The room's bath matched its photos—a wonderful wooden bath with an excellent view of a green garden. All three of us could fit in it; however, since it's deep, caution is needed for children. Since my child sometimes eats quite well during meals, I considered ordering a kid's meal but decided against it after hearing that portions are quite large. They kindly prepared rice for our child which we gratefully received. You can easily go into town or to the beach; there's also a large supermarket right in front which is very convenient in emergencies. When entering by car you need to come from near post office side as it's slightly difficult otherwise. Also not much issue at all—but whether due tatami or futon—my son & husband seemed bitten by some insect? It became such warm stay that we'd love return again! Highly recommended!
