    A lovely, relaxing Hotel.

    We visited in autumn last time, and this time we came in spring to see the cherry blossoms in Hirosaki. Hirosaki was in full bloom—spring at its best—while Hakkoda still had a winter landscape with towering snow walls. In less than an hour’s drive, we experienced both spring and winter scenery, which was truly amazing. Being able to enjoy two seasons at once is a special privilege of this time of year.\n\nBecause we had late dinner and breakfast times, we were able to relax and take our time. Dinner felt even more delicious than on our previous visit. The seasonal French cuisine delighted all five senses.\n\nWe brought my parents along and had a wonderful time together. Thank you very much.\n\nJust one note: it was a shame that the lovely wooden key had been replaced with a key card.

    The Resort Hotel I’ve Always Wanted to Visit

    There was still snow on the ground around us. Inside the log cabin, the air felt soft and comfortable. While enjoying a proper full-course French dinner, we could admire the crisp scenery outside and watch the sun set. With Shuttle Service to Sukayu Onsen available, we were able to experience both the Hotel’s Onsen and Sukayu Onsen. Since they have different spring qualities, it was great to try both. We also used the Shuttle Service bus from Shin-Aomori. The original coffee called “Buna no Shizuku” was delicious—I meant to buy some as a souvenir, but I forgot. I’d love to visit Hakkoda Hotel again in another season to enjoy different scenery. It was only one night, but thank you for such wonderful memories.

    Your First Visit to Aomori

    During cherry blossom season… I had always wanted to see the Hirosaki cherry blossoms at least once, but could never make it work. This time, I quickly put together a trip combining Sukayu Onsen and Hakkoda Hotel. Even though it was early April, the scenery was still deeply covered in snow. Everyone at Hakkoda Hotel was kind, and we had a wonderful stay. We chose Japanese cuisine for both dinner and breakfast, and it was delicious. The main dining room had a lovely atmosphere and felt very special. I also thought the works by Shiko Munakata displayed in the hotel were outstanding. I would like to visit again during a season with plenty of snow as well.

    Comments on the underfloor heating Facility

    I stayed on April 7, a warm day with 2–3 m of remaining snow. Perhaps because the same underfloor heating system is used throughout the entire building, the room was too hot and I couldn’t sleep. I was advised to use the air conditioner, but it was too noisy to sleep, so I opened the window to let in cool air. I felt there should have been another option; although it was Hakkoda Hotel, I could really feel the age of the Facility.

    The staff’s hospitality was outstanding.

    Thank you for your attentive Shuttle Service to Sukayu Onsen and the ropeway. The Onsen was wonderful, and the pillows were pleasantly soft and comfortable. The only downside was that it would have been nice to have slippers for outdoor use when going to the in-house Onsen.

    Relax in a quiet lounge.

    I chose to stay at this Hotel because I wanted to visit Sukayu Onsen. In addition to the Shuttle Service by bus, they even provided another Shuttle Service after check-out to Sukayu Onsen and Shin-Aomori. It was a trip where I could enjoy both the historic architecture of Sukayu Onsen and the elegant, classic atmosphere of the Hotel. The apple cake I had in the Hotel lounge while watching the firewood burn in the fireplace was delicious. The fireplace was so lovely that I also enjoyed cocktails there in the evening.

    An Accommodation I’d Like to Visit Again Next Year

    An Accommodation I had wanted to stay at for a long time. This time, I was finally able to visit. The Room was a first-floor twin, but it was buried in snow so there was no view at all; perhaps on the second floor we might have been able to see the forest. 1. Meals: One Japanese meal and one Western meal. Personally, the Japanese meal left a stronger impression. The French course felt a bit too elaborate and was slightly heavy for a middle-aged stomach (and I also prefer simpler fish dishes). The French beef was said to be medium-rare, but it was more cooked than that; I would have preferred it rarer. Alcohol prices were generally on the high side. 2. Inside the building: The entire building has underfloor heating, so I didn’t feel cold at all (if anything, it felt warm). However, the route to the Onsen is inconvenient—you have to go up from the first floor to the second floor once, move to an adjacent wing on the second floor, then go down to the first floor—so it was a bit tough for me with a leg injury. 3. Onsen: Indoor bath only, but since it wasn’t crowded there were no issues at all. 4. Café lounge / bar: In the morning it can be used by anyone as a library space, which was great for reading. However, although it is supposed to be non-smoking, cigarette smell filled the room—I'm not sure why. 5. Shuttle Service bus: It’s shared with guests staying at Sukayu Onsen Accommodation; when many people boarded at Sukayu all at once, the bus became extremely crowded. I wish they would separate buses by Hotel (it ruined what should have been lingering afterglow from Hakkoda Hotel). 6. Sukayu Onsen: Very appreciated that there is also Shuttle Service from the Hotel. 7. Service: Very polite and allowed me to relax and take my time. There were several foreign staff members in training as well; they worked hard and made a good impression. Overall, it was very comfortable and has become one of my top choices that I would like to visit again.

    An Extraordinary and Wonderful Holiday

    We stayed for one night in mid-January. Despite the heavy snow, we were grateful for the shuttle service both to and from the hotel, as well as the evening shuttle to Sukayu Onsen. The room had underfloor heating, providing a gentle warmth that made it comfortable without needing to use air conditioning. The view of the snowy landscape from our room was breathtaking and unlike anything we had ever seen before. Dinner was a full-course French meal. The warm hospitality, delicious dishes, and tranquil atmosphere of this mountain hotel completely rejuvenated us from our daily fatigue. The staff were always smiling and made our stay very pleasant. This is definitely a hotel we want to visit again! Next time, we'd love to come during the fresh green season. Just one small request: It would have been nice if coffee could be provided in takeaway cups so that we could enjoy it in our room after breakfast. Thank you for such an enjoyable time!

    Onsen

    Starting with the Shuttle Service from Shin-Aomori Station, the guest rooms, cleanliness, Onsen, amenities, and meals—everything is wonderful at this Hotel. I would love to visit in different seasons, but so far I have been visiting every January. There is also a Shuttle Service to Sukayu Onsen, allowing you to enjoy both the highly acidic Onsen there and the milder Onsen at Hakkoda Hotel. The baths are available anytime except during cleaning hours, so it's great that you can take a dip even if you wake up in the middle of the night.

    Nostalgic Flavors

    A truly remarkable experience that embodies the essence of traditional French cuisine. While modern, lighter French dishes have their charm, the chef here crafts meals that exude a sense of "comfort" perfectly suited to a mountain resort, soothing both body and soul. When ordering the main dish, I hastily requested it "rare" without fully reading the detailed menu. Later, I realized it was prepared à la Thermidor style and felt slightly anxious since achieving both a gratin finish under high heat and rare doneness is notoriously challenging in terms of temperature control. However, when the dish arrived, it was nothing short of perfection. The surface sauce was beautifully caramelized while the meat inside remained impeccably rare. The synchronization between the sauce's warmth and the meat's temperature created an extraordinary harmony that melted seamlessly in my mouth—a true testament to masterful craftsmanship. The robust flavor of the meat stood strong against the rich depth of the sauce, all tied together by flawless temperature precision. This experience allowed me to savor not just a meal but also the timeless essence of classic French cuisine—something trends alone cannot achieve.

    A wonderful Hotel.

    Stayed during a severe cold wave for New Year's. The journey to the Hotel was through heavy snow and whiteout conditions, so driving is not recommended for those unfamiliar with such weather. However, the breathtaking beauty of the frigid Hakkoda scenery made it well worth the effort. It became clear why this Hotel has stood resiliently in such harsh nature for so many years. A calm and dignified atmosphere, yet incredibly warm—wooden warmth, the kindness of the staff, and the harmonious warmth and elegance of fellow guests. The unique charm created by everyone at Hakkoda Hotel felt truly exceptional. A return visit is a must!

    Enjoy a French course with your family

    We initially ordered French and Japanese cuisine for two people each without knowing they were served in separate venues, so we ended up enjoying the French course together as a group of four. The dishes, made with ingredients from Aomori, were so delightful that it was worth flying all the way from Osaka. Of course, the attentive service from the Shuttle Service staff, front desk, restaurant team, and Room staff was also very pleasant.

    Last year, we visited Hakkoda a bit late for the autumn leaves, which was slightly disappointing. This year, I made a Reservation to see the beautiful autumn foliage of Hakkoda. Staying amidst this stunning nature was something I truly looked forward to. Although we arrived later than planned, we appreciated the thoughtful call checking on us. The weather was rainy, and I was concerned about it. While hoping to enjoy the breathtaking view from the ropeway, it started sleeting at night and eventually snowed overnight—marking this year's first snowfall in the morning. During our stay, we received various updates about weather conditions and ropeway operations even during meals, which helped us feel reassured while driving around. Despite the unexpected snow mixed with autumn leaves being unusual enough to make news headlines, it turned out to be a rare and memorable sight that I’m glad we got to experience. Staying at Hakkoda Hotel always brings peace of mind. Being able to stay in the same Room as last year and enjoy similar snowy natural scenery might have added to our wonderful experience this time as well. It truly became a delightful stay!

    Thorough Management of Travel Information

    Stayed since January 2024. Following the access information on IKYU, I waited for the shuttle bus at Aomori Station as before, but it did not arrive. Upon calling the hotel, I was informed that from November, the boarding station had been changed to Shin-Aomori Station. Feeling stranded, a hotel staff member kindly suggested boarding at an intermediate point, which resolved the issue. I am deeply grateful for the exceptional service provided by all staff members of Hakkoda Hotel; however, IKYU.com has lost some trust as a travel information provider. The satisfaction with the facility was equivalent to that of a first-class hotel. Most notably, I was extremely pleased with their Japanese Kaiseki cuisine plan featuring carefully selected ingredients by their head chef—it might have been the best meal among all accommodations I've visited through IKYU's selection at a pace of 1.5 times per month! This is definitely one accommodation I would like to visit again.

    The much-anticipated bath!

    I have stayed here several times. Each time, I enjoy the meals and Onsen while appreciating the friendly and lively atmosphere created by the local staff. This time, I was informed just before my stay that only one Onsen bath would be available, with alternating usage times for men and women. While I enjoy the Onsen at Sukayu Onsen, visiting the Onsen at Hakkoda Hotel is also one of my highlights. It seemed that men had slightly less allocated time than women, and my husband found it difficult to use the bath as he wished due to meal schedules and other factors, which was disappointing. The carpets on the floor and some walls also felt a bit outdated.

    It was a great accommodation.

    It has been almost three months since my stay, but it remains a memorable and wonderful accommodation experience. The meals were delicious, and the onsen was excellent. Additionally, the shuttle service to Sukayu Onsen and Hakkoda Ropeway was very convenient as I didn’t have to drive myself. However, having gotten used to such a comfortable environment, I felt overwhelmed by the hustle and bustle of Tokyo Station on my way home and suffered from summer fatigue due to the temperature difference with my home. It made me want to visit again soon. I look forward to staying here again if I have another opportunity!

    A perfect accommodation in terms of hardware, software, and location. However...

    The accommodation was perfect in terms of facilities, services, and location. I would definitely like to visit again. However, during dinner at the restaurant, voices scolding staff from the kitchen such as "How many times do I have to tell you?" were frequently heard, which ruined the otherwise calm and pleasant atmosphere. This was a major downside for me as I am sensitive to such loud reprimands. I truly hope this can be improved. Details: Front Desk: A young male staff member provided very flexible and pleasant service even though we arrived slightly earlier than expected. It was greatly appreciated. Room: The room was clean and comfortable. Guests from a certain large Asian country staying two rooms away were quite noisy, with their voices echoing down the hallway constantly. Thankfully they weren’t in the adjacent room! Onsen: Although there is no open-air bath, the view of autumn leaves through large windows was stunning, and the onsen itself was odorless and clear—absolutely wonderful! Meals: Dinner featured local ingredients prepared beautifully; it was both enjoyable and delicious. There were no issues with service except for the shouting from the kitchen, which remains my only disappointment here. Café: The tea and apple dessert were delightful!

    Excellent service and dining

    Experience the comfort and reliability of a long-established hotel with exceptional service and delicious meals. Due to unfortunate weather, we cut our sightseeing short, but the early check-in and dinner arrangements were perfect for us after arriving in Aomori on an early morning flight. It allowed us to rest well, which was greatly appreciated. Both the French dinner and breakfast were intricately prepared and absolutely delicious. My 87-year-old mother, who accompanied us, finished her meal completely. We were impressed by how promptly and clearly the waiter explained details about the ingredients and cooking methods when asked. Not just the waiter but all staff provided outstanding service throughout our stay. The experience was so delightful that my mother is already planning to bring her sisters here next autumn! Fortunately, we enjoyed clear skies on the day after our stay, allowing us to take in stunning views from our room, restaurant, as well as vibrant autumn foliage from Hakkoda Ropeway and surrounding areas. Last year during this season, we visited hoping to see autumn leaves but had to move towards Misawa due to heavy fog obscuring any views—a disappointing experience at that time. This year’s stay allowed us finally to witness breathtaking fall colors on the second day of our trip—an unforgettable moment!

    I returned to Japan temporarily from overseas and visited Aomori for the first time, a place I had wanted to see for many years. The weather was calm and sunny, and I was captivated by the wonderful cuisine and delicious apple tart. I also visited Sukayu Onsen, and the unique hot spring was an incredible experience. Lastly, my husband forgot something in the Room, and I apologize for the trouble caused by sending it to us. Thank you very much.

    60th Birthday Celebration

    We visited with our family to celebrate a 60th birthday and enjoy the autumn leaves. When we requested a dessert plate for the celebration, they surprised us with a whole shortcake with a message and even candles, which deeply moved us. Additionally, when I felt unwell due to the temperature difference, they kindly provided cold medicine and took great care of us. The Room was clean and lovely, and the comfortable bed allowed me to recover by the next day. This was undoubtedly the best Hotel for me, and I will definitely visit again. Next time, I plan to come during the fresh green season. Thank you very much!

    A spontaneous trip to Tohoku.

    At the end of September (25th-27th), I spontaneously decided to visit Tohoku. On the second night, I stayed at Hakkoda Hotel. Although it was a bit early for the autumn foliage, the bright red leaves in front of the hotel and the vast natural scenery just a few minutes' walk away truly made me feel like I was in the heart of Hakkoda. I enjoyed a Japanese-style meal, which was carefully prepared and absolutely delicious. The staff's hospitality was exceptional, and I would love to bring my family here next time. I'd like to visit again during peak foliage season, but it seems they are fully booked. I'll definitely return! I've uploaded some photos, though it's unfortunate that they don't quite capture how beautiful it really is.

    Perhaps I expected too much from traditional French cuisine.

    It was a wonderful Hotel, so we had high expectations for dinner. The wine we ordered was a familiar white Chablis. We requested a decanter, but the bottle wasn't shown to us, and despite being from 2021, it had an orange hue. It lacked the typical Chardonnay character, and we couldn't ask the sommelier about it. The full-course meal was advertised as utilizing ingredients from Aomori. Small scallops, foie gras in mousse form, and low-temperature cooked filet meat were served. The sauces were supposed to be enjoyable but lacked flavor—why? This is just my personal opinion, but even my wife barely ate anything; perhaps the seasoning is reduced salt for older guests?

    Hotel for Adults

    A classic hotel where you can enjoy the works of Shiko Munakata. The hotel's onsen was delightful. During my stay, most of the staff were male and many were older, which added to the classical atmosphere. Breakfast left a stronger impression than the French dinner. The greenery visible from the window might have made the breakfast feel more stylish. There were no particular complaints about the service, but the smell in the room was noticeable. Both the building and the staff, as well as the guests, seem to have aged gracefully, making this accommodation suitable for those who appreciate such an ambiance.

    The charm of Hakkoda Hotel lies in the opportunity to enjoy two types of Onsen at once. The Onsen within the hotel features a unique iron-rich spring quality that warms you to the core, complemented by a sauna and cold bath for ultimate refreshment. I was especially delighted to use the sauna after a long time, making my experience highly satisfying. Additionally, you can visit nearby Sukayu Onsen with complimentary Shuttle Service and indulge in its beloved sulfur springs. Experiencing both iron-rich and sulfur springs—two completely different qualities—is a luxurious feature unique to this hotel. Dinner was a French course meal, with each dish meticulously prepared and delicious. The fried tilefish stood out as my favorite dish, perfectly crispy on the outside and tender inside—a memorable highlight. Overall, the dining experience greatly enhanced my stay. The Room is not overly extravagant but provides all necessary comforts for a pleasant stay. Surrounded by Hakkoda's serene natural environment, simply being there felt like an extraordinary luxury. During this trip, I also explored natural spots in the Hakkoda area such as Oirase Gorge, Lake Towada, Tsutanuma Pond, Jigokunuma Pond, and Suirennuma Pond while enjoying seasonal scenery. The breathtaking views from the Hakkoda Ropeway added unforgettable moments to my journey. At checkout, I appreciated being allowed an extra hour for departure time which let me relax until the very end of my stay. Special thanks go to the front desk staff for their thoughtful service during our departure. In summary, this trip offered an exceptional combination of Onsen relaxation, exquisite dining experiences, stunning nature exploration, and sightseeing opportunities. Highly recommended not only for Onsen enthusiasts but also for those looking to enjoy nature’s beauty alongside their travels!

    The time spent surrounded by the warmth of wood was truly precious—a perfect reward for myself, allowing me to escape the hustle and bustle of the city and enjoy a relaxing moment.     Onsen is amazing!

    A cozy Hotel. The building feels a bit old, but the Room was clean and comfortable. Of course, the Onsen was excellent! The kaiseki dinner was beautifully presented and delicious. Unfortunately, the weather didn't allow us to climb Mount Hakkoda this time, but we would love to visit again when we come back for hiking.

    Would love to visit in winter... A calm and comfortable Hotel.

    The purpose of the trip was to climb Hakkoda Mountain, one of Japan's 100 Famous Mountains. Despite concerns about the unusual heat this year and rain damage in Aomori, we were fortunate to have good weather. Enjoying nature at Oirase and Lake Towada made this trip a perfect choice. I would love to visit again in winter for skiing. The Hotel had a calm atmosphere with warm hospitality, making it very comfortable. If I may suggest, for those staying three nights, it would be great if there could be more variety in the meals as breakfast and dinner started repeating on the second round. The Room was nice; however, having winter bedding stored in the closet (which is necessary) made it difficult to hang longer items like coats or pants. Also, there were few drawers available, which was slightly inconvenient. This is definitely a recommended Hotel! Both Sukayu Onsen and the Hotel's Onsen were excellent (and there's also a sauna!).
