    An Authentic Log Cabin Hotel

This was my first visit, and I had no idea such an impressive Hotel existed on Mt. Hakkoda. The building is a solid, authentic log house, and the foreign-made wooden multi-pane windows are excellent (winters are cold, after all). The high-quality French restaurant was very satisfying for a Resort Hotel (I hear there is also a Japanese restaurant), and I also enjoyed the lounge bar after dinner. A meal after unwinding in the dry sauna is especially delicious. Shiko Munakata’s works were displayed throughout, making it feel almost like an art museum that reflects the local character.

I thought it would be difficult to get there without a car, but there was a free Shuttle Service bus, so it was easy to reach by train as well. There was also a Shuttle Service to Sukayu Onsen, and I was very satisfied to be able to enjoy an Onsen with different water quality from the Hotel’s. The meals were all carefully prepared using local ingredients. The restaurant had a great atmosphere, and everything was delicious. All of the staff were very pleasant and helpful. Unfortunately, due to heavy rain and wind on both days, we couldn’t use the Hakkoda Ropeway, but we were able to relax at the Hotel until it was time. We had a wonderfully relaxing summer vacation. Thank you very much.

    The Japanese cuisine is exceptional.

I had wanted to visit for a long time because it’s a mountain resort and had such high ratings. In reality, considering the price, there were a few aspects that left me slightly disappointed, but the highlights were the Onsen and the meals. In particular, the Japanese dinner was outstanding—every dish was exquisite, and you could tell each one was prepared and served with great care. Since most of the highly rated comments seem to focus on the French cuisine, I imagine fewer guests choose Japanese food, but I highly recommend it as well. I chose a Western-style breakfast, which was also delicious. Thank you very much.

    I stayed during the ...

I stayed during the Nebuta Festival season. Thanks to the helpful guidance on where to watch, I was able to fully enjoy the festival. Dinner and breakfast were excellent as well. However, at dinner, the explanations and recommendations for drinks felt unprofessional—stating personal preferences first and then telling guests to choose based on their own tastes. At breakfast, the staff seemed extremely busy; bringing items over at a quick trot and placing them down abruptly didn’t feel appropriate. I also would have preferred not to have automated check-in and check-out at a luxury Hotel of this class.

A resort hotel Japan can be proud of. The Onsen is also excellent.

A Resort Hotel Japan can be proud of, where you can truly relax no matter how many times you visit in any season—spring, summer, autumn, or winter. The Onsen is a spacious, uncrowded acidic spring with distinctive qualities different from Sukayu. Dining is also a blissful experience, enjoying French cuisine in an atmospheric restaurant.

A Hotel Where You Can Stay with Peace of Mind

The French dinner had a nice balance and was very enjoyable. It would be even clearer if the Hotel website posted that month’s menu. I also used the bar; since it’s relatively bright, you can relax while reading a book. The almond snacks pair well with drinks. Please do buy some as souvenirs. I used the Onsen three times. Personally, I was completely satisfied with just that. Above all, it’s very clean. Please use the handrails so you don’t slip. For breakfast, I had the Japanese set meal. I think the apple compote should be served on a separate plate from the grilled fish. You can really feel how wholeheartedly the staff provide their service. This is a Hotel I’d like to stay at again in a different season.

Meals: We tried all options for both breakfast and dinner, Japanese and Western. Personally, I found the Japanese dishes tastier, and my wife agreed (both were exceptionally high quality and surprisingly delicious). Onsen: The Onsen had a slightly tingling feel—seemed very effective. We could also use Sukayu Onsen for free, which was great. Room: I rated it 4 because the bed was firm and the pillow didn’t suit me. This Hotel is one we would like to visit again.

    Japanese food is delicious.

Arriving at the Hotel and being greeted with “Welcome back” makes me feel relieved every time. This time, I stayed for two nights and enjoyed a relaxing soak at Sukayu Onsen (the sulfur is excellent). I was also able to use the Hotel’s Onsen without it being crowded, which helped soothe both body and mind. Hakkoda Hotel is famous for its French cuisine, but the Japanese meals also reflect the chef’s dedication. Each visit brings new discoveries for both the eyes and the palate, and I always look forward to it. This time, they also accommodated my request regarding portion size, so I could enjoy everything deliciously while savoring it with both eyes and taste buds. The drink explanations (wine, etc.) were also thorough, which I appreciated. That said, since the dining area isn’t very large, I personally hope things remain calm enough to relax as they are now. I was impressed by how hard the new staff members are working, and the long-time staff continue to provide a reassuring sense of comfort. I plan to visit again in late autumn, and I look forward to seeing you then as well.

Accommodation for Day 4 of your Aomori trip from Nagoya

As the rain got heavier, we gave up sightseeing at Mt. Hakkoda and arrived at the Hotel before 2:00 p.m., but they kindly let us check in and provided Shuttle Service to nearby Sukayu Onsen. Although it was disappointing that we couldn’t do any sightseeing, we were able to relax and recover in the famous Sennin-buro bath. The Hotel’s French dinner was delicious, and we also enjoyed the baths and lounge, allowing us to spend a calm day indoors despite the rain.

The spacious, cool Room surrounded by a beech forest was wonderful.

We visited to enjoy the cool climate of Hakkoda. Even in July, the outdoor temperature was 21–23°C. We turned off the air conditioning and enjoyed the refreshing breeze through the window screens. Dinner was beautifully presented and colorful, and we were especially impressed by how delicious the beef fillet was. The freshly baked croissants at breakfast had wonderful aroma and flavor. (On the second day, we were too full to finish everything.) The small Onsen, completely different in character from nearby Sukayu Onsen, was quiet and relaxing. Since we traveled by Shinkansen, having Shuttle Service to Shin-Aomori Station, the Hakkoda Ropeway, and Sukayu Onsen was the deciding factor for us. The two-hour guided eco-tour that took us on a walk through wetlands exceeded our expectations and became a very satisfying memory.

Although we stayed for only one night, everything was perfect.

I stayed in Aomori for 3 nights and 4 days, and used this Hotel on the second night. Dinner was Japanese, and breakfast offered a choice of Japanese or Western; I chose Japanese (my family chose Western). Both meals were of a quality that surpassed even a traditional fine-dining kaiseki course. The grilled “Kinkin” was exceptionally delicious. The morning croissant in the Western breakfast was so crispy it felt like a cookie. I highly recommend trying it. The service was also excellent and made for a very pleasant stay. It seems the admission fee voucher for Sukayu Onsen is available at this Hotel, so I regret going before check-in. Since it’s close by, I recommend checking in first.

    Disappointing Bus Pickup

On Wed, July 15, we boarded the 2:00 PM bus from Shin-Aomori Station, but it was very disappointing that the driver/staff member who guided us had a poor attitude. When I gave my name, he didn’t look at me and only pointed toward the bus with his hand and said “Please.” There was no explanation that luggage could be loaded into the compartment under the bus. My husband tried to carry it to our seats, but since the side luggage-compartment door was already open when we boarded, I felt uneasy and ended up loading it myself. Even after getting on the bus, I remained concerned and watched how he treated other guests through the window, but he continued to avoid eye contact and only point toward the bus. A foreign male guest seemed to be asking a question, but the staff member’s attitude was almost as if he were ignoring him. This is an issue even before staying at the Hotel—the first impression was so bad that it left me feeling unsettled throughout my stay. Inside the Hotel, however, both the restaurant staff and front desk staff were wonderful, and on our return trip the next day, the bus staff member was very kind as well—so this made it all the more disappointing.

    An Elegant Stay

It was a quiet, dignified Hotel. They also offer Shuttle Service to Sukayu Onsen, and the atmosphere had both Japanese and Western touches. The French dinner was carefully prepared dish by dish, and it was a delight for both the eyes and the palate. One small disappointment was that there was a family with a baby during dinner time, and the crying didn’t quite suit the calm dining atmosphere. It may have been difficult for the Hotel to prevent, but I felt some kind of measure could have been taken. Although the restaurant is spacious, they were seated right next to us; if the seating had been spaced out more, we wouldn’t have been as aware of each other’s voices. Also, at checkout there was an error in the charges billed to our Room; if I hadn’t noticed, I might have ended up paying for someone else’s charges. Settling payment at an automated machine is fine when everything is straightforward, but when there are Room charges involved, I would feel more reassured if an itemized statement were clearly shown. That said, this has become one of the Hotels I’d like to visit again in a different season. Thank you very much for your hospitality.

Fully satisfied with the French cuisine

The French dinner was excellent, and we were very satisfied. However, the towels and bath towels in both the room and the large public bath felt rough, and the bathrobe provided in the room was the same, so we didn’t feel like using them. That was very disappointing.

    Beware of bears.

When I tried to take a walk around the Hotel, a staff member told me that a bear had been spotted nearby a few days earlier and someone was injured, so I couldn’t relax and enjoy the walk, which was disappointing.

I enjoyed Sukayu and the Hotel Onsen.

I made a Reservation for the Hakkoda Ropeway and the Hakkoda Hotel for a friend who wanted to visit Sukayu Onsen. When we arrived at Sukayu in the morning and told them we would be staying at the Hotel, they immediately handed us towels, and we were able to use Tama-no-Yu. There was Shuttle Service to Sukayu, including in the evening, which also allowed my friend to enjoy the large public bath as hoped. Because of bear sightings, we couldn’t explore the surrounding area, so it felt like a waste that we could only walk around the Hotel grounds. Dinner was French cuisine; with high ceilings and chandeliers reflected in the windows, it looked beautiful—glowing in the forest—and everything was delicious. However, I didn’t quite like the sauce on the main beef dish and wished there had been salt and pepper on the table.

The environment and staff are perfect.

The surrounding area, the Hotel facilities, and the staff service are all excellent. However, for a Multiple Night Stay, I would like a fresh pair of spa socks provided each night. Wearing the same pair for consecutive days can cause odor and makes them uncomfortable to use, so I hope this can be improved.

As before, the staff at both the front desk and the dining area were excellent. However, it was disappointing that the Hotel staff? driver on the Shuttle Service—who gets on and off along the way—greeted us but was unfriendly to other passengers and sat in the front and rear seats. Otherwise, both the setting and services were wonderful.

A great Hotel, just as described in the Reviews.

We stayed here to explore the Oirase Gorge. It was a great Hotel, just as the Reviews said. I debated between French and Japanese cuisine for dinner, but chose Japanese because I was concerned about the dress code. The Japanese meal was outstanding. The venue seems to have been relocated, and both the view and atmosphere were excellent. This Hotel is famous for its French cuisine, but I think it may soon become known for its Japanese cuisine as well. The Onsen water quality was great, and it was clean and never crowded. I also appreciated having disposable slippers in the Room. I love Onsen and visit Ryokan around Japan, but I’m not fond of shared slippers lined up at the entrance. Just one thing: the breakfast coffee didn’t taste very good. I’d like to visit again in autumn next time.

We had a very relaxing stay.

There were many highlights at the Hotel entrance, in the lobby, and throughout the building. The surrounding scenery was also wonderful, and with a short walk you can visit places like the steaming hot spring and Jigoku Swamp. The service was excellent, but after using the large public bath, I tried to buy a beer from a vending machine and found there was no beer available, and the vending machine near my Room was out of order. For a Hotel of this level, it might be better to stock some in the Room refrigerator. The meal menu and ingredients were excellent, and I was able to relax very much.

It was a wonderful Hotel nestled in lush natural surroundings.

I stayed here because I was drawn to this historic, magnificent log-house architecture embraced by the nature of Hakkoda. Inside, with its enormous logs fitted together, everything feels solid and classical wherever you look. Rather than “enjoying a Hotel,” it’s more like a Hotel to be savored. The Room itself was very comfortable, though the bathroom facilities do feel a bit dated compared with modern standards—perhaps unavoidable. What stood out most was the food and service. The Japanese dinner was outstanding in both portion size and flavor, and I was completely satisfied. Also, the foreign staff member at the front desk worked so hard to assist us that it genuinely elevated the quality of our trip. However, in comparison with that dedicated service, the Japanese front-desk staff felt somewhat less attentive. Perhaps there was an intention to let the foreign staff take the lead as part of training. It didn’t leave me with any bad feelings, but it was a little disappointing. The large public bath was decent, but guests can enter the affiliated Sukayu Onsen’s Hiba Sennin-buro for free. You can enjoy Sukayu’s wonderful hot-spring quality there, so if you stay here I highly recommend going. There is also Shuttle Service available, and it’s about 3–4 minutes by car. I would definitely like to come again in a different season.

    Thank you very much.

This is a well-known Hotel, and just as people around me had said, it left a truly wonderful impression. The log cabin—said to be the best in Japan—was soothing, with fresh greenery through the windows and a refreshing breeze. The French dinner I was especially looking forward to, served in the lovely dining room with red tablecloths, was excellent in both quality and portion size, and the service was exactly as expected—outstanding. The young international staff were well trained, and the senior Japanese staff were highly knowledgeable; their friendly service that focused on all the key points was flawless. I enjoyed the Hotel’s nature walk program, and also got to visit Sukayu Onsen the next day—it was a truly great holiday. Thank you very much. I would love to visit again during the autumn foliage season or ski season. P.S. I was slightly disappointed that an automatic check-in machine like those found at business hotels didn’t match the log cabin atmosphere—and even though it wasn’t busy, we still had to use it. It is convenient, so relocating it might be a good idea...

A Birthday Enjoying Hakkoda’s Great Nature and Onsen

Despite making a last-minute Reservation, you kindly upgraded our Room, making it a wonderful and memorable birthday. We chose Western-style meals for both breakfast and dinner, and both were delicious—next time we would love to try the Japanese cuisine as well. Sukayu Onsen was so amazing that we visited many times, and we regret that our stay at the Hotel felt a bit rushed. Next time, we would like to enjoy a more relaxed Multiple Night Stay. Thank you very much.

    Wonderful!

Not only is the Hotel excellent overall, but the hospitality is outstanding as well. In addition, we thoroughly enjoyed every Japanese dish at dinner while taking in the remaining snow. And we were able to fully enjoy our stay thanks to the wonderful atmosphere of the bar and its master!

    Disappointing Service

At the dinner restaurant: My husband and I were dining, and the cutlery had already been set. When a staff member placed a dish partway through the meal, my husband’s cutlery seemed to be in the way, so they pushed aside the knife, fork, and spoon by touching the tips with bare hands. Bare hands? I was shocked. Instead of moving them by holding the handles, they touched the parts that go into your mouth. It felt unhygienic, so I asked for them to be replaced. They looked at me as if to say “Huh? Why?” and silently swapped them for new ones. There was no apology. Later, during afternoon tea in the café, I ordered an apple pie set, but I was very bothered by a strong cigarette smell on the staff member. They must have smoked during their break. They may not notice it themselves, but the smell lingers. I had expected a luxury Hotel experience, so I left feeling disappointed.

    A lovely, relaxing Hotel.

We visited in autumn last time, and this time we came in spring to see the cherry blossoms in Hirosaki. Hirosaki was in full bloom—spring at its best—while Hakkoda still had a winter landscape with towering snow walls. In less than an hour’s drive, we experienced both spring and winter scenery, which was truly amazing. Being able to enjoy two seasons at once is a special privilege of this time of year.\n\nBecause we had late dinner and breakfast times, we were able to relax and take our time. Dinner felt even more delicious than on our previous visit. The seasonal French cuisine delighted all five senses.\n\nWe brought my parents along and had a wonderful time together. Thank you very much.\n\nJust one note: it was a shame that the lovely wooden key had been replaced with a key card.

The Resort Hotel I’ve Always Wanted to Visit

There was still snow on the ground around us. Inside the log cabin, the air felt soft and comfortable. While enjoying a proper full-course French dinner, we could admire the crisp scenery outside and watch the sun set. With Shuttle Service to Sukayu Onsen available, we were able to experience both the Hotel’s Onsen and Sukayu Onsen. Since they have different spring qualities, it was great to try both. We also used the Shuttle Service bus from Shin-Aomori. The original coffee called “Buna no Shizuku” was delicious—I meant to buy some as a souvenir, but I forgot. I’d love to visit Hakkoda Hotel again in another season to enjoy different scenery. It was only one night, but thank you for such wonderful memories.

    Your First Visit to Aomori

During cherry blossom season… I had always wanted to see the Hirosaki cherry blossoms at least once, but could never make it work. This time, I quickly put together a trip combining Sukayu Onsen and Hakkoda Hotel. Even though it was early April, the scenery was still deeply covered in snow. Everyone at Hakkoda Hotel was kind, and we had a wonderful stay. We chose Japanese cuisine for both dinner and breakfast, and it was delicious. The main dining room had a lovely atmosphere and felt very special. I also thought the works by Shiko Munakata displayed in the hotel were outstanding. I would like to visit again during a season with plenty of snow as well.
