    The building and gue...

    The building and guest rooms are kept exceptionally clean, and housekeeping is thorough. The Onsen is also wonderful, and with the room furnishings and quiet surroundings, I think this is a good Ryokan where you can relax and enjoy a slow stay. On the other hand, despite the excellent facilities, I strongly felt a gap in staff training and service quality. What surprised me most was the dining experience. A dish that was forgotten at dinner the previous night was served the next morning with the comment, “This is what we forgot to serve yesterday.” It was added as an obviously Japanese item within a Western breakfast. A menu should have intention behind its composition, serving order, and timing. Serving it within a completely different meal the next day not only shows a lack of consideration for the food itself but also feels disrespectful to the head chef who designed the menu. It was disappointing for a Ryokan of this class. I also felt there were issues with communication among staff. Multiple staff members repeatedly asked me to confirm the same information, and at checkout I was asked, “What did you do with your key?” even though I had already returned it to another staff member. There were inconsistencies regarding payment as well: one staff member said card payment was available, while another said cash only. It is concerning to receive conflicting guidance on such a basic matter. If cards are accepted (fees aside), I believe the Ryokan should provide consistent information in line with merchant rules as well. Rather than isolated mistakes, it felt like there is room for improvement in staff training, internal communication, and overall service operations. The Accommodation itself is very appealing. The cleanliness, Onsen, room design, and quiet environment are all excellent. At higher-priced Ryokan properties, I believe the stay experience includes not only facilities but also service quality and consistency that match that level. Precisely because this is otherwise a good Ryokan, it is unfortunate that service has not caught up yet—I hope to see improvements going forward.

    Wonderful service! Meticulous upkeep that makes up for the building’s age.

    This was the best hospitality I’ve experienced at any Accommodation I’ve stayed at recently. I had a very pleasant stay and was very satisfied. Unfortunately, the Facility and amenities felt dated, like an old-style Ryokan, which was a bit disappointing. That said, it is well maintained for its age, and I’m satisfied overall. If possible, I would be happy to have a cold plunge bath as well.

    We stayed in the ann...

    We stayed in the annex and had a very comfortable time. It was a hot day, so it was a shame we couldn’t relax on the bath terrace. We think it would be even more comfortable if the bath building and living quarters were connected by a covered walkway. We also felt the garden could use a bit of pruning. The conger eel soup at dinner was delicious, with a flavor that made us feel as if we were in Kyoto. Many of the staff were energetic and cheerful, which surprised us at first, but we felt it was a nice distinctive touch compared to other places. Thank you very much to everyone.

    It was a delightful surprise from the moment we walked in!

    You’ll head toward the mountains on a narrow road that might make you wonder if there’s really a Ryokan up ahead. When we finally arrived, it felt like a hidden Accommodation—so exciting! The building was spotless and well maintained, and the staff were friendly, making it truly relaxing. The Onsen had a sulfur scent, and the meals—centered around fish—were delicious down to the pickles. I couldn’t stop going back for more rice! We made our next Reservation as soon as we arrived—it was that wonderful!

    The Dream of “Yumeya”

    The female staff provided excellent hospitality. I’m not sure what their “recommended for solo travelers” is supposed to mean. If it means eating a cold boxed meal from a paper carton alone in loneliness… that was unexpected, and it felt like this Ryokan’s idea of solo travel is to make you feel even lonelier... With no sense of enjoyment or comfort, I would not want to stay at this Accommodation again.

    A great accommodation for Onsen lovers

    This Accommodation was perfect for us Onsen lovers. As soon as we entered the Room, we were soothed by the sulfur scent for the first time in a while. Thanks to the proprietress’s gentle smile and the staff’s warm hospitality, we were able to relax and unwind. The Room was spotless and very spacious, with charming traditional sliding doors that created a wonderful atmosphere, and we enjoyed delicious in-room dining at a leisurely pace for the first time in quite some time. Thank you for celebrating our unexpected wedding anniversary—it's become a wonderful memory.

    Wonderful Accommodation

    The warm welcome on arrival, heartfelt hospitality, and the staff’s smiles and service were excellent. The delicious meals made with seasonal ingredients were great, and I was also satisfied with the optional add-ons I requested in advance. The local sake tasting set (you can choose three varieties yourself) was a nice touch as well. If anything, it would have been even more convenient if there had been a few more power outlets in the Room for USB charging and similar needs. I would definitely like to visit again if I have the chance.

    The hospitality is outstanding.

    We stayed for one night and two days. The Onsen was wonderful, and I enjoyed the bath in our Room many times. My husband also kept saying how good the water quality was. All of the meals were delicious. In particular, the charcoal-grilled nodoguro was fluffy and excellent, and the house specialty Yumeya manju was also delicious, with carefully chosen ingredients and thoughtful preparation. We were very happy that chamomile tea and a spare set of samue loungewear were prepared for us during turndown service. You also took great care with the Shuttle Service on our departure, and everything was perfectly arranged. The rice balls we received as a souvenir, as well as the special bento (available for an additional fee), were refined and truly delicious. Thank you very much for such a wonderful time. We would love to visit again.

    We enjoyed crab.

    I chose this Accommodation because I wanted to enjoy crab for a birthday celebration and it had an excellent reputation. The crab was delicious and luxurious, and I was very satisfied. After the meal, cold water and chamomile tea were prepared in the Room, which felt wonderfully refreshing. The service was thoughtful without being intrusive, and the Room was spacious and impeccably clean. The flowers were also arranged with understated elegance, which was very soothing. Perhaps because many Rooms have open-air baths, the large public bath felt almost private. This is an Accommodation that made me wish I could stay longer than just one night.

    It was an accommodation where you could feel the essence of Niigata.

    The cuisine and Onsen were exceptional, providing a stay that was fulfilling both physically and mentally.     I chose a twin Western-style room, but there was a wall between the twin beds and the ceiling was low, which made it feel cramped. I requested futons instead, but unfortunately, this could not be accommodated (understandably). As a result, I couldn't sleep well. (I should have chosen a Japanese-style room.)

    Dream Comfort at Yumeya

    Everything is excellent. The room reflects thoughtful attention to detail. The soothing onsen water warms the body thoroughly. Both dinner and breakfast are not extravagant but very delicious. For breakfast, you can choose between Japanese and Western options, with tasty soup and bread available for unlimited refills. Transportation to and from the nearest station by car was provided. This is an onsen accommodation that makes you want to visit again.

    I would love to visit this accommodation again.

    The delicious cuisine and wonderful Onsen allowed for a relaxing stay. While there is some room for improvement in the check-in and check-out process, the Room attendant who welcomed us was bright, polite, efficient, and left a lasting impression with their excellent service. It was slightly disappointing that the Onsen in our Room had black water due to sediment resembling soot. However, the large public bath was impeccably clean, highlighting the exceptional quality of the spring water. I would love to visit again!

    I stayed at this accommodation in Niigata for the first time and was very satisfied, just as the reviews described. It has become a rare ryokan that I would like to revisit. First of all, the entire ryokan was impeccably clean. It felt fresh and pleasant, with attention to detail that reflected a high level of hospitality. Even the souvenir shop had tasteful items that made for memorable keepsakes. The meals were truly delicious, and I could see why everyone praised them in their reviews. The dishes were creative, perfectly portioned, beautifully presented, and enjoyable in every way. The staff members were unique and engaging; I had so much fun talking with them. Apologies if this sounds condescending—it’s not my intention. Lastly, thank you for celebrating my 60th birthday! It was a wonderful surprise and became a great memory. I look forward to staying here again!

    I had a relaxing time.

    I visited to relax and enjoy delicious food. Overall, I was extremely satisfied. The design that ensures privacy is excellent, and the innovative concept of not needing slippers was impressive. The pudding had an amazing taste. The Onsen water is by far the best I've ever experienced. Each dish seemed crafted with great care, making every bite delightful. There were two points I felt could be improved: 1. The tuna cutlet felt out of place among the dishes. It might not have been necessary, or if fried food is essential, perhaps using local Niigata pork or beef as an accent would be better. 2. The coffee at breakfast—while the breakfast itself offered a truly exceptional experience—was quite ordinary in comparison. Upgrading the quality of coffee beans might enhance this aspect further. I look forward to visiting again! Please let me savor Yume-ya's thoughtful hospitality next time as well—I’m excited already!

    The Onsen water is exceptional.

    I stayed in late September. The room on the second floor was clean and spacious. Dinner was served in the room, featuring a creative and healthy menu with fish and vegetables, which was just the right portion for women. Since it was on the second floor, it was a bit disappointing that the private bath in the room wasn't Onsen water, but I understand. Amenities were slightly limited; there were no makeup remover or facial soap in the bath, which was a little unfortunate. However, the sulfur Onsen water was truly wonderful and soaking in it alone made me satisfied.

    The accommodation is very quiet. However, since it is a two-story building, staying on the first floor may make you notice the footsteps of guests on the second floor while in your room. The private open-air bath in the room is small and suitable for one person, but it is very pleasant to use. The large communal bath allows for a comfortable experience with minimal interaction with other guests. Meals include dinner served in your room and breakfast served in a large hall. For dinner, some dishes had been prepared earlier and took some time to be brought to the room, but they were accommodating to requests. However, it was disappointing that both breakfast and dinner lacked any explanation about rice varieties despite being in Niigata Prefecture—a region known for its rice—and there was no special presentation like cooking rice in an earthen pot. For accommodations exceeding 100,000 yen per night, it's rare nowadays not to serve rice this way at a ryokan. Improving this aspect could significantly enhance the dining experience. As for amenities, only basic items are provided; however, they are sufficient without causing inconvenience. The staff members are friendly and work diligently but seemed overwhelmed due to possible understaffing issues. Overall, it’s a good accommodation; however, considering the price point, there’s still room for improvement.

    The shuttle service was very helpful. The hospitality was excellent, the meals were delicious, and the Onsen was very relaxing, making it a worthwhile visit. We enjoyed a luxurious time in the spacious facility with its well-maintained garden. It is a quiet and peaceful Ryokan.

    A Relaxing Accommodation for Adults

    The entire accommodation was very quiet, allowing for a relaxing and comfortable stay. The onsen with a faint scent of sulfur and the sounds of cicadas and higurashi from the room were truly soothing. Dinner was served in a private room with a pleasant atmosphere, featuring delicious seasonal dishes that we thoroughly enjoyed. Additionally, when I mentioned during the reservation that we had a family member celebrating their birthday in August, they surprised us with an egg cake. Their thoughtfulness deeply moved us. It was truly a wonderful accommodation to stay at.

    I would love to visit again. It was such a wonderful accommodation. We stayed for two nights during the Marine Day holiday weekend. With high expectations from the excellent reviews, we approached our stay cautiously as we've had disappointing experiences before. The journey took nearly six hours from Tokyo with breaks, and it was quite tiring to go directly. However, upon arrival, a young female staff member greeted us with a radiant smile and promptly helped with our luggage while maintaining just the right conversational distance, which eased some of our fatigue. Unfortunately, there was a loud middle-aged couple in the lobby whose voices drowned out everyone else’s conversations—an unlucky start for someone seeking tranquility. That said, as promised by Yume-ya beforehand about spacious rooms and facilities, we only encountered them at "Resting Area" (where they occupied space inconsiderately) and "Breakfast Venue" (where their loud chatter made others uncomfortable). By the second night, they were gone, allowing us to enjoy a very comfortable stay. The meals were absolutely delicious! I loved the "Rock Oysters" so much that I ordered extra on the second day. My daughter was thrilled by Yahiko's "Edamame," which even got added to our dinner menu on request for the second evening—alongside pickled eggplant and Yume-ya's signature buns among other delights. Every dish was exquisite! Despite not being big eaters as a family, we found ourselves asking for rice refills. The pairing of sake tailored to our preferences enhanced each meal further; combined with engaging conversations with staff during dinner both nights made it an unforgettable experience. Our room “Yokobue” was fantastic—the sounds of garden insects and flowing river truly soothed my soul. The room itself felt spacious enough to completely unwind from fatigue. The private open-air bath attached to our room allowed unlimited use; alternating between this bath and slightly cooler indoor baths helped rejuvenate both body & mind perfectly! Over three days visiting public baths multiple times yielded zero encounters—making them feel like private spaces too—and outdoor hot springs were especially delightful! At nearby “Resting Area,” trying vinegar mixed into milk tasted surprisingly like yogurt—a unique treat worth mentioning! It felt like living in luxury over these dreamy three days—I hope someday soon I'll meet everyone at this accommodation again! One small note: after breakfast on day two when ordering iced coffee served by an earnest young staff member—it came accompanied by pre-opened milk containers already empty inside... Initially thoughtfulness crossed my mind but left me puzzled later instead... Lastly purchased blueberry jam from their shop upon departure—it turned out exceptional!

    The service was polite, and the meals were carefully prepared to match the dining pace, making them very delicious and enjoyable. However, there were two disappointing points that could improve the comfort of the stay: During a visit in extreme heat, the temperature changes while moving from the guest room to the bath area were significant and uncomfortable. In the 10-tatami Japanese-style room, adding cushions to the sofa in the sunroom would make it more relaxing.

    The cuisine and service were excellent. The hot spring water was just the right temperature. The dishes, in particular, were meticulously prepared and incredibly delicious. The Yume Manju was outstanding, and the sea urchin was perfectly cooked without being overdone—truly impressive craftsmanship. Even when clearing plates, they handled them with care without stacking them, which showed great attention to detail. However, it was disappointing that the hallway to the large public bath had a musty smell.

    A spacious garden and a black-colored Onsen

    We stayed in a first-floor room with an open-air Onsen. The building is spaciously constructed on a vast property, making the room larger than expected and allowing for a comfortable night's sleep. The indoor bath was filled with natural hot spring water, while the open-air Onsen was supplied with water to maintain its temperature. The natural hot spring had black-colored water, which was a unique and enjoyable experience. Dinner arrangements varied depending on the day's crowd and number of guests, being served either in the room, a private dining area, or the main dining hall. One concern was that upon arrival, the indoor bath was not pre-filled with Onsen water; we had to fill it ourselves before use, which took time and felt inconvenient. Thank you very much!

    I felt completely relaxed in both mind and body.

    We chose to stay here to enjoy a relaxing time as my companion had just recovered from an illness and we did not plan for sightseeing. We are grateful for the peaceful and unhurried time we were able to enjoy during our two-night stay without feeling bored. Thank you very much.
