Everything about the Ryokan was disappointing.

Made a reservation one month in advance for a birthday celebration. Requested in the remarks section during the reservation to prepare a dessert plate for a surprise during the meal. Three days before the stay, they contacted us for the first time and informed us that they could not prepare the plate. No alternative suggestions were offered. Changing to another Ryokan three days prior was impossible, and since there were no supermarkets nearby, we couldn't buy a cake either, so we gave up on the surprise altogether. There were many other disappointments as well. 【Guest Room Bath】 The bath is completely visible from outside. Although blinds are provided, they are flimsy and sway with wind, making them unsafe to use. 【Amenities】 Worse than those found in Business Hotels. Hair ties were cheap-looking fluorescent pink or blue ones only. The yukata had an unpleasant smell and had to be replaced upon request. The socks provided were so thin that skin color showed through them—cheap quality overall. 【Service】 The staff member who assisted us was friendly; however, it took about 10 calls to reach someone at reception each time we needed assistance. When requesting ice to chill water, we were told it would be charged—a surprising policy even compared to Business Hotels. 【Meals】 The main reason for choosing this accommodation was their advertised clay pot rice; however, it turned out overly moist and soggy with no crispy bits typically expected from clay pot cooking—it seemed like rice was just placed into a clay pot after being cooked elsewhere instead of being freshly prepared in it. Additionally, sake prices ranged from 2,000 yen to 4,000 yen per serving—extremely expensive considering neither food nor service matched such pricing standards. Overall experience left us deeply disappointed—it felt like money wasted on what should have been a special birthday celebration but ended up far below expectations without even achieving our planned surprise moment!

    It was a wonderful accommodation.

The service, meals, Onsen, and guest rooms were all impeccable. The location is also excellent. The public bathhouses, Souyu and Kosouyu, were right in front of us. Yamashiro Onsen is truly a wonderful Onsen. It was my first visit, but I would love to come back often.

It was a Ryokan I would love to visit again.

I visited with my parents and stayed at an accommodation with a private open-air bath in the room. The room was very comfortable, and we had a pleasant stay. The private open-air bath was spacious enough and very relaxing. The view outside faced the onsen town and the road, but there was a small shrine visible amidst the cozy mountain atmosphere, which added to the tranquil ambiance. The meals were beautifully presented with elegant tableware, making them enjoyable to look at as well as eat. There were so many dishes that it was hard to finish everything, but each one was delicious and highly satisfying. The yuzu ice cream served in the lobby after bathing was also delightful. We looked forward to attending the concert held in the lobby at night; however, it felt a bit lonely as there were no other guests present. I learned about the concert through posted notices and guides within the facility, but there wasn’t any mention of it during check-in. If this had been announced during check-in, perhaps more guests would have attended. I rated customer service three stars because of two reasons: first, there were no decaffeinated drinks available in our room; second, during meal service, we felt slightly rushed due to timing issues with serving dishes. That said, I didn’t feel that these aspects detracted significantly from our experience. Overall, I really enjoyed my stay here and would love to visit again!

Both the Onsen and meals are excellent, but...

I have visited Yamashiro several times before for onsen purposes, but this was my first stay at Tachibana Shikitei. The onsen lived up to its reputation and was among the best I’ve experienced in any accommodation so far! The meals served in the room were delicious, and I was very satisfied with the quality of the dishes. However... As mentioned in other reviews, there were concerns about customer service. The service provided felt far below what one would expect for the price paid, which was disappointing. Firstly, there were six glasses in the room, but three of them appeared dirty as if they had already been used. It made me wonder how long those glasses had been sitting there. Additionally, since we opted for in-room dining this time, all doors leading to the hallway remained open throughout our meal. When I tried to close just the door to our dining area for some privacy and warmth, I was told it would hinder smooth delivery of food—a response that seemed more focused on convenience for the ryokan than guest comfort. The next morning during breakfast service, a drink spilled over onto a placemat under one of our dishes. While observing from an adjacent room expecting it to be replaced or cleaned up properly, no apology or replacement occurred—the stained placemat remained as is. Furthermore, when heading to enjoy a morning bath at 9:30 AM (which should have been available until 11:00 AM), indoor baths were already being cleaned with strong-smelling chemicals that forced me to retreat outdoors instead. The lack of attention on these soft aspects left much to be desired; I sincerely hope improvements will be made moving forward based on this feedback!

Enjoy seasonal Echizen crabs with tags, a specialty of Hokuriku.

Enjoy seasonal Echizen crabs with tags, a specialty of Hokuriku, by making a reservation here. Although we were the only ones using the shuttle service from Kaga Onsen Station, there was no assistance with carrying luggage, which was disappointing. Similarly, there was no support when entering the accommodation from the car. The room was on the 3rd floor facing the main street. While you could see the entire onsen town through its large windows, it felt like our room might also be visible from outside. The accordion-style curtains provided little light-blocking capability, so after dinner, we fully closed the sliding shoji doors to maintain privacy and indoor temperature. The bathroom had two sinks for convenience. The bath area featured a large public bath and two open-air baths of different sizes where you could enjoy snowy views while soaking in water at varying temperatures with abundant flow. Now for what we came for—the crab kaiseki feast! Due to knee issues, dining at a large table by the window (also used for breakfast) instead of sitting at low tables was much appreciated. From simple appetizers that reflected the chef's humble personality to exquisite dishes like sea cucumber—everything tasted amazing! We knew choosing this place was right. The cod and milt hot pot offered flavors rarely experienced—delicious! The sashimi made from giant crab legs had an incredible sweetness! The grilled crab miso in its shell had an elegant flavor unlike anything before—no fishy smell and absolutely delicious! Then came grilled crab and crab shabu-shabu one after another until we were full! Finally came crab porridge as a finishing touch—it too was exceptional! Topped generously with leftover shoulder meat from grilled crabs made it irresistibly luxurious; I couldn't help but get seconds! This accommodation’s cuisine is truly top-notch in both quality and quantity!

The food was satisfactory, but the service was the worst.

I used it for my husband's birthday. We chose a spacious premium Japanese-Western style room. The temperature of the bath in the room was also comfortable for a long soak. For dinner, we had a bite-sized Noto beef steak and ordered a separate dish of Kobako crab. The volume of the dishes was satisfying, and they were very delicious. On the other hand, breakfast was quite ordinary. I was disappointed because I expected something more luxurious for a Ryokan costing over 100,000 yen. Moreover, the customer service was absolutely terrible. Five minutes before checkout, we received a call saying, "Please settle your bill soon." Usually, Ryokans call after the time has passed. I was also surprised to be urged to settle the bill. Furthermore, the attitude of the woman at the front desk was awful. During the checkout, there was no word of thanks at all. The man standing next to her was just standing there. Even if we were unpleasant guests, couldn't they at least say "Thank you"? Also, I thought the fact that it was for a birthday was shared since they provided a dessert plate, but I felt uncomfortable when they showed the bill details in front of my husband. Despite not being a cheap price, the service level was extremely low, and I felt very uncomfortable. I will never go again.

This time, the service was careless.

When serving meals, there is a greeting when entering the room, but nothing is said when leaving. Is this normal? The explanation of the breakfast content was brief, and there was no follow-up visit to the room afterwards. Compared to the previous time, the service was not as good, which was disappointing. Despite being aware in advance that shellfish are not suitable, clam miso soup was served without any explanation. The lack of consideration was too much, and with such service, it's not worth paying a high accommodation fee. I was very disappointed this time.

A Nice Trip to Yamashiro Onsen

I visited Tachibana Shikitei in Yamashiro Onsen to eat crab. Although the weather forecast predicted heavy snow, the snow melted, and it wasn't that cold. The property, including the room, was thoroughly cleaned, which was impressive. The staff was talkative and kind, which helped with the Yamashiro sightseeing the next day. The onsen had soft water that made my skin smooth. The crab and other dishes were delicious. Thank you for accommodating my allergies. It's a property I'd like to stay at again for a relaxing visit.

Thank you very much for your kind assistance.

We visited with my parents in their 80s for a family trip. The room was barrier-free and very spacious, accommodating five people without feeling cramped at all. As soon as you leave the room, the elevator is right there, and once you get off the elevator, the large public bath is also immediately accessible, allowing us to send off our elderly parents with peace of mind. The Onsen in the large public bath is hot and has excellent skin-beautifying effects. We talked about how wonderful it would be to bathe in it every day. The open-air bath in the room was also a first experience, and despite it being January, soaking for a while gently warmed us up. We ordered seasonal kaiseki cuisine along with additional snow crab and sashimi. The elaborate kaiseki was, of course, delightful, and the snow crab with tags from Hashidate Port, served as sashimi and grilled, was truly delicious. The hachime sashimi was also rich and tasty. The staff at this Ryokan always greeted us with smiles, which was impressive. They explained the dishes and how they were made in detail, which was very educational. Thank you for creating such wonderful memories for us. We are truly grateful for your hospitality. We would love to visit again.

    The first staff memb...

The first staff member spoke very quickly and mentioned that there were instructions on how to wear a yukata all over the room, but I couldn't find them anywhere. However, the food was exceptionally delicious. I came here to let my wife recuperate, and she is pleased. We enjoyed a relaxing time with the open-air bath and massage. Thank you very much. A bit disappointing was that, even though the Hokuriku Shinkansen has opened, it would have been nice if there were some shops or something around the outside for a walk.

The location is excellent! The food could be better?

After breakfast, we were able to go to the Koso-yu in yukata. The return was warm and really pleasant. The room was a junior suite (with Onsen), spacious and excellent! The meal was a kaiseki and seko crab course, but the sashimi platter seemed to be enough for four people, and we couldn't finish the rest of the dishes. I would like you to consider the portion distribution. Although the seko crab was the main dish, the content was disappointing.

A Ryokan that makes you want to stay again

Upon arrival, when my friend went to ask at the front desk because we couldn't find the parking lot, they kindly came all the way to the car to explain it to us. They also explained that since there was still time until check-in, we could either go for a walk or relax in the lounge. From the moment we arrived, I felt that this was a wonderful Ryokan, just as the reviews said. The staff in charge of our room was also wonderful, and they kindly answered our questions about the view from the room, the food, and the Onsen town, which made us feel warm. The interior was also well-cleaned, and we could walk comfortably even without slippers. The large public bath had two open-air baths, so we could enter without worrying about other guests. The food was beautiful when served, and the taste and dishes were all wonderful. It was also nice to hear a beautiful flute performance in the lounge. Every year, I stay at a Ryokan with my clubmates from my student days, but this was the first time that on the way back, each of us said we wanted to stay again, and the wonderful aspects of the Ryokan became a topic of conversation in the car, which was very exciting. I am really glad to have encountered such a wonderful Ryokan. Thank you very much.

    The Onsen is wonderful.

Perhaps because check-in was after 5 PM, things became a bit hectic, but I managed to get into the Onsen before dinner and felt quite refreshed. The quantity and quality of the Onsen were excellent, and although I entered several times, it was almost like having a private bath each time, which was very satisfying. The meals were also very delicious, and the Kobako crab, which I tried for the first time, was especially superb. I would love to visit again.

    Annual Crab Trip

This was the 10th annual crab trip, changing locations and Stays each year. We hesitated to visit Ishikawa Prefecture due to earthquake damage and it being a disaster area, but we were moved to tears by the warm welcome from many staff members and are grateful. As always, we thoroughly enjoyed the crab.

    Very disappointing

This trip with my classmates was planned to enjoy food and Onsen, especially with the crab season starting on November 6th, but it ended in a truly disappointing result. The most important service as a Ryokan was the worst. The response at the front desk, the service by the Ryokan staff, and all aspects of service were the worst. There are still issues like the Kobako crab at dinner, but ultimately, I think the attitude towards customers as a Ryokan lacks in terms of service.

    It was wonderful.

I stayed for two nights with my elderly mother. The style of removing shoes and walking on tatami and paulownia wood floors was truly light and comfortable. The cleanliness was impeccable, and even with socks, it was not a concern. As others have mentioned, both the meals and the large public bath were of an excellent standard, and my mother was very satisfied. The large public bath was set at a slightly warm temperature, allowing for a slow and comfortable soak without overheating, and the water was truly wonderful. The service system by the staff was unique and reflected the distinctive style of this property. The local staff provided a simple and friendly service, unlike the overly polite service of luxury ryokans, and I felt a strong sense of commitment to the local community from the property and the proprietress, who valued employing local people from long ago. It was so great that I would like to visit again.

    A perfect Stays for adults.

The hospitality, cuisine, and the elegance of the Stays were all excellent. Since it was an ideal room with an open-air bath and a dining area, we were able to enjoy a second party-like atmosphere in the room after dinner, using wine glasses. The dining area was also a private room with partitions, so we had very little face-to-face interaction with other guests, allowing us to enjoy a very private time. Thank you very much.

I would like to visit again.

The property, with its historical elegance and charm, offered a culinary experience that was highly satisfying. A veteran staff member attended to us, ensuring everything went smoothly and comfortably. The guest room's open-air bath, as well as the two open-air baths in the large communal bath, allowed us to fully enjoy the onsen. Being a property associated with Rosanjin, the location also offered shopping opportunities at nearby Kutani ware kilns, making it a place I would definitely like to visit again.

    Delicious cuisine

We stayed as a group of four women and had a very pleasant stay. Although it was a Ryokan without slippers, we found it comfortable without them after a while. The Room had a dining area, so even after laying out the futons, there was space to chat while having tea, which was very nice. The bath was a clean onsen with water flowing directly from the source. The meals were unanimously praised by everyone. The dishes were lovely, and the food was both visually beautiful and delicious. The staff treated us very well, and we had a very comfortable stay. We would love to visit again.
