    The meals were delic...

    The meals were delicious, and we were able to relax. The amenities—especially the towels and toothbrushes—cover the basics, but it would be nice if the quality could be improved a bit.

    My family was very satisfied.

    Nestled near Lake Suwa, the building looked like a small, classic Onsen Accommodation from the front, but once inside it felt much deeper and had been beautifully renovated, giving a very different impression from the exterior. The Room we stayed in was a renovated room on the town side; it was bright and spacious, and instantly won over my wife and daughter. Dinner and breakfast were served in a private dining room, each dish was exceptionally delicious, and we were very satisfied. It was also reasonably priced for an Onsen Accommodation. We would definitely like to stay again.

    I didn’t need a view...

    I didn’t need a view from the start, so I was able to stay at a great price in a city-side Room. The Room was clean and very nice. I accidentally operated the TV remote incorrectly, and when I asked the front desk for help, even though it was the busy check-in time, they came to my Room right away and kindly assisted me. We were able to relax over our meal in a private dining room, and they watched our pace and served each dish at just the right time, so everything was delicious. The bath was also properly cleaned and felt great. It was a Ryokan where we received courteous service for the first time in a while, and we were very satisfied.

    The male staff seemed unenergetic and unmotivated!

    The older male front desk staff did not seem motivated, and at checkout no one came out from the front desk. I’m not expecting the kind of send-off you’d get at a luxury Ryokan, but it felt different from when I stayed a few years ago. It seems they have become accustomed to handling inbound guests over the past few years. Disappointing. The female staff and attendants were very pleasant, but the male staff may benefit from additional training.

    Great value for money

    I made a Reservation the day before. The price was reasonable. It seemed there were not many guests staying, so I was lucky to be able to use the large public bath almost as if it were private. The meal was on a private-room Plan, but about 80% of the dishes were already set out in advance, and some had dried out due to the heating, which was disappointing. The attendant was friendly and service was good, but they seemed busy and there were times when there was a long gap between courses. The Room had a modern Japanese style, and the toilet and washbasin area were clean as well. However, there was a stain on the wall that looked like liquid had run down it (something that cannot be removed by cleaning). Despite all that, I felt it offered satisfaction beyond what we paid for!

    Satisfied.

    Visited the Suwa Five Breweries. It was within walking distance from the station. The staff were very friendly, and the meals were delicious. The view of Lake Suwa from the Room was excellent, and it was conveniently located for visiting Matsumoto Castle and the four shrines of Suwa Taisha, making sightseeing perfect. Thank you for your hospitality!

    Pros and Cons

    A friend from overseas visited Japan, and since they have always appreciated the quality of Suwa's Onsen and the view of Lake Suwa, we chose this historical and popular accommodation for their first stay. Here are some disappointing points and positive aspects: First, the door lock of the room we were guided to did not work. After checking in, it took time to address this issue before returning our rental car, which caused a delay in returning it. The staff mentioned that similar issues had recently occurred with other rooms as well. Since the lock was not automatic, perhaps a prior check could have identified this problem? This led to a loss of valuable travel time, which was very disappointing. On the positive side, disposable tabi socks were provided, and ice cream was available after bathing—both of which were highly appreciated by my overseas friend.

    Relaxing Ryokan

    The Ryokan offered exceptional hospitality, true to its long-standing reputation, and provided a very relaxing stay. This was our third visit, and as always, the accommodation maintained its cleanliness and luxurious atmosphere, making for a pleasant experience. The meals were served at the perfect temperature and timing, with every dish being meticulously prepared and delicious. We overheard some elderly guests mentioning that they couldn't finish their portions; even for us in our 50s, the amount felt slightly excessive. It would be great if options to adjust portion sizes for items like seasoned rice could be offered in advance. The Onsen had an ideal water temperature with clean changing areas; however, we noticed some international guests wearing slippers into the dressing room or leaving used toothbrushes on the sink area. Clear English signage regarding trash disposal or slipper etiquette would be helpful in such key areas. The staff's hospitality was outstanding throughout our stay.

    A wonderful Ryokan that created the best memories!

    We visited as a group of five male colleagues. It was great to have a large Room that could accommodate all five of us. The attentive service and hospitality were impeccable, allowing us to enjoy a pleasant stay. Meals were served in private dining rooms separate from the main area, so even though it was fully booked, we couldn't hear any noise from others and had a relaxing time. The location is excellent, offering views of Lake Suwa and within walking distance to Katakura-kan, famous for its "Thousand-Person Bath." On the first day, we walked around Lake Suwa with footbaths along the way and enjoyed eel in Okaya. On the second day, we visited all four shrines of Suwa Taisha. With perfect weather, it turned out to be an amazing trip!

    I had a comfortable stay.

    We stayed in a room assigned by the accommodation, which faced the lakeside, allowing us to enjoy the sunset and sunrise. Both dinner and breakfast were satisfying with generous portions, though the freshness of the sashimi at dinner was slightly concerning. However, thanks to the thoughtful care of the dining staff, we were glad to have chosen this accommodation.

    With an old friend

    It was a lovely accommodation by Lake Suwa. The meals were well-seasoned, and the menu was creative, including Western-style soups. It was my first time trying miso-flavored sukiyaki, and as expected from Shinshu, the miso had a rich flavor and was delicious. The room had beautifully renovated water facilities and was clean and comfortable. The view of Lake Suwa from the room was stunning—I wish I could have enjoyed the sunset there. All the staff greeted us with smiles, making it a memorable and enjoyable trip. Thank you very much!

    Second Visit

    As a returning guest, I thoroughly enjoyed the delicious meals and finished every bite. The bath was relaxing, and the alto saxophone performance after dinner was soothing. Thank you for providing a slow-paced and fulfilling experience.

    End of Summer Suwa Lake Onsen - Nunohan

    It was my first stay in about 20 years. Although I booked a plan without room designation, they kindly provided a Japanese-Western style room with two bedrooms as I had hoped. The room offered a view of the courtyard. Since I've visited Suwa Lake Onsen many times, this view was more than sufficient for me. The new and clean room made for a very pleasant stay. The plan did not include an upper-class dinner, but I was pleasantly surprised by the handmade appetizers and soup (on this day, it featured Oyaki dumplings). There were very few pre-made dishes, and the homemade feel of the delicious food left an impression on me. It reassured me that their tradition of excellent cuisine is still alive today. Among accommodations of similar class in Suwa Lake Onsen, I feel that both the taste and quality of their food are top-notch. However, the facility layout is somewhat complex and can be confusing to navigate; we took it upon ourselves to check emergency exits just in case. I also appreciated thoughtful services like ice cream after enjoying the onsen and coffee service after breakfast—it added to our overall satisfaction!

    Accommodation with Delicious Dinner

    We stayed at the accommodation with my elderly parents and spouse. The bath was pleasant with good quality hot water. Dinner was abundant in variety and quantity, visually appealing, and very delicious. The room was clean and satisfactory. We were lucky to see beautiful summer fireworks, which became a wonderful memory. This was our third stay at this accommodation, but there were some disappointing points: - The breakfast side dishes were limited in variety. - Carrying amenities to the room ourselves felt like a business hotel experience, which we disliked. - The staff seemed impersonal, and there was no send-off when we left. While it may be due to current staffing shortages, it felt a bit disappointing. If beds could be added to the Japanese-style rooms on the lake side in the future, they would become even better rooms. With its great location, hot springs, and cuisine, I hope for improvements moving forward!

    The meals were parti...

    The meals were particularly disappointing. The children's meals were served partially wrapped in plastic, requiring us to remove the wrap ourselves. It felt like less effort was put into the children's meals. As for the adult meals, we expected a course-style serving, but most dishes were already laid out from the beginning, and even the tempura served later was cold. If everything had been placed at once from the start, it would have set more realistic expectations. The Facility felt old and gave a dark impression; however, it was well-cleaned and maintained in a tidy condition.

    Suwa Taisha Shrine Tour

    I stayed here and visited Suwa Taisha Shrine. The view of Lake Suwa right in front was stunning, and the included breakfast was delicious. The place was spotless and very clean, with excellent free services like massage chairs and post-bath ice cream. The staff were extremely kind and attentive.

    The meals, service, ...

    The meals, service, and amenities were all perfectly balanced, making our stay very comfortable. The food was not overly seasoned, making it easy for my elderly parents to enjoy. All the staff were friendly with warm smiles and maintained a pleasant level of attentiveness. Thank you for taking care of us.

    A Long-Awaited Stay at a Ryokan

    Stayed as two couples in their 60s. The staff were friendly, and the dinner was delicious with just the right portion size. Having dinner in a private Room was a pleasant touch. Initially, we were surprised to hear about a flute and piano concert after dinner at the Ryokan, but it exceeded our expectations. Over time, we've realized that sitting on tatami floors becomes less comfortable even with floor chairs as we age. The toilet, though not spacious, lacked a handwashing area inside; we had to leave the toilet, pass through the entrance area, and use a small sink nearby—this was quite inconvenient. Lastly, I think it offered great value for money overall.

    The Room was new, very clean, and beautiful. I had a very comfortable stay. The meals were just the right amount and very delicious.
