    How many places are ...

How many places are there where a feudal lord’s residence still remains at the very heart of the town even today? Being able to stay as a guest in such an estate, and to take in the buildings and gardens—things that would have been impossible to see 100 years ago—to your heart’s content, made for a fascinatingly luxurious time where you can feel history and changing eras up close. It was an Accommodation experience unlike anything I had ever had before. The guest building was new and spotless, with drinks and amenities well provided, making it very comfortable to stay.

A Strange Night Journey in a Lord’s Mansion

We stayed for one night to coincide with the “Kikai Yako” event. We boarded a traditional yakatabune boat and enjoyed the entertainment, then after dinner we strolled around the estate. We had an absolute blast. At night, the grounds—lit by lanterns adorned with eerie yokai—felt just like a haunted house, and Tachibana Muneshige’s armor appeared hauntingly in the lantern light. We were truly grateful for the staff’s thoughtful support, from arranging transportation to the riverboat pier to flexibly coordinating our meal schedule alongside the event. Thank you very much. The food was, of course, outstanding—Ariake delicacies, Shimabara somen noodles, steamed eel in a bamboo basket—every dish was a delight. The garden was also magnificent: cicadas in full chorus during the day; bullfrogs at night; illuminated black pines reflected on the water—it was almost too beautiful to sleep. The hinoki-scented bath was wonderful as well, and we also loved having craft beer and coffee from your Hime/Tono brand in the in-room refrigerator. We would love to return again for a truly refreshing getaway. With gratitude.

A place imbued with culture and history that we hope will be preserved for generations to come

An Accommodation created by converting a feudal lord’s residence into a Ryokan—just that was enough to lift my spirits. I arrived with my imagination running wild. Right after checking in, I visited the Tachibana Family Museum and learned about the family’s history. Since I knew almost nothing about the Yanagawa Domain, this helped me better understand the explanations during the on-site cultural property tour afterward. The tour was excellent value, and they kindly answered even simple questions in detail. Dinner was served in a private room, and I enjoyed it slowly with Yanagawa sake. When I mentioned that I was too full to finish the final steamed dish, they kindly brought it to my Room in an onigiri-style format—an indulgent late-night snack. After breakfast, I strolled through Shotoen Garden and explored the grounds, fully immersing myself in culture and history. Ohana has been passed down for generations over many years—I hope it will continue to be preserved and shared far into the future. What I had imagined turned out to be even better than expected. Thank you for taking such good care of me. I will visit again. I highly recommend the cultural property tour—it was truly wonderful. To avoid spoilers, I’ll leave out the details.

An Accommodation You’ll Want to Keep Forever

With its rich history and tradition, along with the pleasant hospitality of the young staff, we were able to spend a truly comfortable time. I have heard that maintaining a historic building involves many challenges, but I sincerely hope it will be preserved just as it is for years to come. A clean Room, delicious meals, and a wonderful garden We would love to visit again.

    Valuable cultural property

Although I live in Fukuoka, I had never been to Yanagawa until now. I’d been seeing it in the media recently and thought, “I have to go!” While a day trip is possible, I decided that if I was going, I wanted to stay at Ohana—so this time I booked an overnight stay. The Hotel was very quiet and comfortable, and the meals were extremely satisfying. The best part of this stay was being able to join the guest-only cultural property tour. It was a special experience to visit each Room while listening to stories about the history of the Tachibana family. All of the staff were courteous as well, and thanks to them I had a very pleasant stay.

Stay in a Cultural Heritage Property

I traveled solo. Thank you for upgrading my Room; the meals and hospitality were wonderful, and I was able to spend a truly soothing time. Most impressive were the designated cultural property buildings and gardens that have been preserved for centuries. The view from the grand hall was especially stunning, and since there were no other guests at that time, I enjoyed the luxury of having it all to myself. The view from my Room was also magnificent. The food was excellent overall, but breakfast in particular was outstanding—I was genuinely impressed. While some of the younger staff seemed a bit inexperienced, they were polite and sincere. The more experienced staff were wonderfully attentive and considerate, making my stay even more enjoyable. Throughout my visit, I could feel how proud and respectful the staff are toward this historic cultural property. I hope it will be preserved and passed down for many years to come. I would love to visit again in a different season. Thank you very much!

    Wonderful

I visited to experience staying in a former feudal lord’s residence (the guest room wing is newer). From Saga Airport, I took a pre-booked limousine taxi to the boat landing near Nishitetsu Yanagawa Station. After about an hour of relaxing river cruising on a donko boat, we arrived at the Accommodation. As soon as you get off, you can see the designated cultural property buildings. I left my luggage and, while taking a walk, headed to an eel restaurant recommended by the staff for lunch—steamed eel in a bamboo basket. In Yanagawa, eel is a must. Dinner at the Accommodation also included a smaller serving of steamed eel in a bamboo basket, but when I asked in advance for one portion, they kindly changed it to sea bream takikomi rice. Guests receive tickets to the on-site history museum, which was more substantial than expected and well worth visiting. You should also join the evening guided tour; thanks to an excellent explanation by the PR staff member, I learned about Yanagawa and the Tachibana family’s history and found it very meaningful. From my Room I could see both the cultural property buildings and the garden pond. It was also wonderful that you can bring drinks into the grand hall and relax freely. You can fully enjoy the quiet nighttime garden from the veranda or from floor chairs in the tatami rooms. I had hoped to have breakfast on a boat, but since heavy rain was forecast for that morning, I canceled it the day before and switched to regular breakfast instead. Still, I was satisfied—I could enjoy a delicious breakfast at leisure from seats with a view of the garden through large windows. Overall, I felt that this Accommodation’s staff were exceptionally professional—perhaps because they take great pride in working at Ohana.

    It was a wonderful accommodation.

It was truly a wonderful Accommodation. The building is rich in cultural character, and the hospitality is exceptional. In particular, one of the female staff members kindly assisted us with river boating and lunch, and even carefully recommended places for dinner, making our stay deeply memorable. I’m already looking forward to returning.

A wonderful Hotel that you’ll want to last forever

I stayed here on a mother–daughter trip with my mother in her 80s. The Hotel set within the garden was very quiet, and the dusk scenery was beautiful—we even spotted a grey heron. We gave up on the kaiseki dinner course because my mother wouldn’t be able to finish it, but when we consulted the Hotel, they told us they offer room service, so we chose a breakfast Plan instead. The steamed eel in a wooden box we ordered via room service arrived piping hot, and we were able to enjoy it slowly in our Room while looking out over the garden—absolutely satisfying. Breakfast the next morning was also delicious across the board; in particular, the Ariake sea nori lightly toasted over a flame had a wonderful aroma and went perfectly with white rice. The Room was very comfortable. There is no large public Onsen bath, but the in-room bath is a spacious hinoki tub facing the garden—so relaxing! One of the best parts of staying at Ohana is being able to stroll around inside after closing hours. With not many guest rooms at Ohana, there’s none of that crowded feeling. In the grand hall, surrounded by the scent of tatami rush grass, we could quietly unwind and enjoy the cool evening air. Reflecting on its history and culture, I can only hope this Hotel will continue for many years to come. We will visit again. Thank you very much.

It was a truly satisfying experience.

The garden and staff were outstanding—an indulgent Accommodation where you can immerse yourself in history. Everything about the atmosphere—the garden, the grand hall, and the lounge—was simply wonderful, and it was one moving moment after another. The cuisine was also beautifully presented and truly delicious; we were completely satisfied. We also appreciated the staff’s attentive care, which conveyed a genuine spirit of hospitality. Because it is a historic building, we did notice a small amount of cobwebbing on the transoms in the grand hall, and the air conditioner in our Room was a bit noisy at times. However, this Accommodation has more than enough charm to outweigh those minor points. It was an extremely satisfying stay. Thank you very much!

    Worth revisiting.

A return visit in a different season from winter. Last time I came with friends; this time I brought family, and once again I was reminded of the high standard of service, including the thoughtful handling of our celebratory gift. We were welcomed back with “Welcome home,” and throughout our stay we received such attentive care that we almost felt apologetic. The corner Room overlooking the garden offered a wonderful view that never grew old, and it let us enjoy scenery different from what we saw from the hall or the breakfast venue. We joined the in-house tour again, and I was also happy that the staff member who guided us last time stopped by to greet us, allowing me to thank them in person. As before, the warm hospitality of the staff who served our dinner and breakfast left a strong impression. With a clean and comfortable Room and meals that delivered both quality and quantity, even my family member visiting Ohana for the first time found it hard to check out—and seemed to leave a note to that effect in the Room guestbook. Thank you for such a wonderful time; it became a cherished memory.

    Even during Golden W...

Even during Golden Week and the Suitengu Festival, Tachibana Residence felt like a different world—peaceful and quiet. Between the cultural property tour, time spent admiring the illuminated garden, and relaxing in the calm lounge, it was an exceptionally fulfilling stay that didn’t feel like just one night. The meals were also excellent: refined flavors with O-Hana’s signature dashi, not overly sweet, and—true to having their own farm—the vegetables and fruit were delicious as well. I really hope a Taiga drama about Muneshige Tachibana becomes a reality! I would have liked a wider selection of drinks in the lounge, and since it’s not an Onsen, I deducted one star for that.

    Accommodation with exceptionally delicious cuisine

Dinner was very delicious, especially the steamed eel in a bamboo steamer. (However, it should be improved that no staff were present even when the dinner start time arrived...) Breakfast was also excellent and a wonderful meal to start the day pleasantly.

    We were very satisfied.

Check-in at 3:00 PM and check-out at 11:00 AM. Except for going out for dinner, we stayed in the Hotel the whole time, but it flew by. The interior was beautiful, and the historic building had a wonderful charm. From our Room, we could see a stunning garden and even watch the river boat rides. Spending the evening in the grand hall felt truly luxurious. The hospitality was outstanding. They anticipated our needs even without us saying anything, which made us very happy. Thank you very much. It’s a bit pricey, but it’s a Hotel I’d love to stay at again. Next time, I’d like to take a river boat ride!

    A Luxurious Stay

Despite the many public spaces on the spacious grounds, there are only a few Rooms, so I hardly ran into other guests except in the dining area. I truly enjoyed a luxurious time and space—having the grand hall almost to myself, sipping an evening drink while admiring the garden. For a Multiple Night Stay, it would be even better if there were more storage for clothes and other items. Overall I was very satisfied with my stay, but I didn’t give a perfect score because of two small points. 1. The staff can feel a bit inexperienced, though their sincerity comes through and it’s endearing. However, I would like them to help with luggage immediately upon arrival and departure without being asked. It may be because many of them are from a generation that won’t do what used to be standard unless told. 2. When breakfast is Western-style, it would be nice to have juice as well—ideally your signature mandarin orange juice. I had a wonderful time overall.

    I stayed in the Kuro...

I stayed in the Kurotsubaki Room. Since it was described as having a garden view, I made the Reservation expecting to see the pine garden from the Room, but I couldn’t see it unless I leaned over to look, which was disappointing. Instead of the pine garden, I could see a little of the cherry blossoms. What disappointed me most was that, because rain was forecast, I was told at check-in that the boat breakfast Plan would be difficult. Based on the weather forecast I checked online, it looked like it would be cloudy from 8:00, so I didn’t understand why it would be difficult. However, since Hotel staff said it would rain until 9:00, I accepted that and switched to in-room dining. We had a 0-year-old child with us, so being able to finish both breakfast and the boat ride in the morning would have helped with nap time. After dinner, when I checked the forecast again and saw it had changed to cloudy, I asked the person who delivered room service whether boat breakfast would still be difficult even if it cleared up tomorrow. They replied, “I don’t think it will clear up (with a wry laugh).” Since I was asking whether it would be possible or not, this wasn’t really an answer—and their dismissive attitude made me uncomfortable. In the end, it did clear up early in the morning, but we still weren’t able to have breakfast on the boat. The building had great charm and atmosphere, and the garden was wonderful. The food portions were generous and delicious as well—but unfortunately my impression of some staff members was disappointing.

    Signs of Hinamatsuri

This was my first stay at Tachibana-tei Ohana. I had been interested in this Accommodation for some time, and after staying here, it has become a place I definitely want to visit again. The relaxing atmosphere and the garden spread out below are truly soothing. Since I have a big appetite, I also ordered room service; there was a decent variety of items, so it may be a good option for anyone who might get a little hungry. The amount of food served was satisfying as well, and for most guests it should be more than enough to keep you satisfied through breakfast. I had breakfast on a boat, and enjoying the meal while chatting with the boatman one-on-one felt like wonderful hospitality. That morning there were many people along the riverside path because Hina Matsuri boats were scheduled to run, but being able to experience both the river cruise and breakfast together is something unique to Tachibana-tei Ohana. The staff provided excellent service and took great care of me. Considering the quality of the Accommodation, service, cuisine, and location, I feel it offers value beyond its price. It may be ideal if you want to unwind and take your time doing nothing in particular. The pier is also nearby, so taking a river cruise after check-out could be a great idea. With cherry blossoms blooming soon, I imagine the view from the Room will be spectacular as well. I would love to stop by again. Thank you very much for your hospitality.

It was a wonderful stay. This is a Hotel I would highly recommend.

The Hotel’s Facility was excellent, and the service from all staff members was truly outstanding. We had originally made a Reservation for the “Daimyo Boat Breakfast,” but at that time it was difficult to operate due to the canal water level. Instead, the Hotel kindly arranged a special Yanagawa river cruise (Yanagawa Donkobune), which gave us a rare and wonderful experience. We are sincerely grateful. The Room was comfortable, and the meals in the Hotel were delicious. We felt at ease throughout our stay. The staff were attentive and warm, making this a truly memorable visit. We would love to return again. Thank you very much.

Relaxing Accommodation in a Cultural Heritage Property

I visited Yanagawa, where the Sagemon Festival had just begun, to make special memories with my elderly parents (who have difficulty walking and poor eyesight). The Accommodation is a little far from Nishitetsu Yanagawa Station, so we took a taxi. We arrived while excited to see what Ohana would be like after the renovation. There weren’t any troublesome steps inside, but the lighting was a bit dim, so I walked while checking in with my parents along the way. Our Room was partly tatami-matted, and they added an extra bed to make three beds in total. It didn’t feel cramped at all. My father kept saying how comfortable the bed was. We could step out onto the balcony from the window, and we could see the garden as well—both of my parents were very happy watching water birds playing outside. The meal portions were just right, and even my mother—who rarely eats eel—said “It’s delicious!” and finished everything. Unfortunately it rained, but when I sat alone in the large hall at night and gazed at the rain-soaked garden, I felt calm and at peace. In a way, I’m glad it rained. It was also nice that we could bring drinks from the lounge (it was cold, so I brought hot coffee). The staff’s service wasn’t overbearing at all, and we had a very comfortable stay. Thank you for giving us such precious time to relax in a cultural property. We truly appreciated your hospitality.

Below the acceptable standard as an Accommodation.

The front desk seemed focused on pushing their history rather than providing proper service. I reserved the “Kurotsubaki” Room in the Suite/Junior Suite category, completed Online Credit Card Payment, and checked in—only to be shown to a room in the lowest category. They did nothing until I pointed it out and showed the IKYU Check Reservation page. They blamed a “system error” and offered no proper apology. While the property may have historical value, its Accommodation operations are below an acceptable standard.

The meals and hospitality are excellent.

It was my first time visiting Yanagawa. I arrived late at night and it was pitch-dark, but I was thrilled when the mansion and Western-style building suddenly appeared. From the Room, I could overlook the garden with a lovely view, and the low table and chairs were very comfortable to sit on. The bed was also spacious and extremely comfortable. Above all, breakfast was amazingly delicious—I even had a second helping of rice. Unfortunately, there was a wedding event, so I couldn’t enjoy the view from the grand hall, but I’ll look forward to it next time. The staff’s warm smiles were truly comforting. Thanks to you, my trip to Yanagawa became a wonderful memory. Thank you very much.

Immerse yourself in history and cultural heritage.

It was a wonderful Accommodation where history and tradition blend beautifully with a fresh, renovated feel. The staff were very kind, and I was able to truly relax and recharge. Each dish had its own story, and I also recommend the duck-shaped monaka from the souvenir shop.

    High-quality

It was an exceptional stay that exceeded expectations. I heard the accommodation has been renovated, and even without considering the added value of staying in a cultural heritage site, I felt the comfort and usability of both the guest rooms and shared spaces. Additionally, the delicious meals (the eel here was far superior to that of nearby famous restaurants) and attentive service were outstanding. Every staff member we interacted with demonstrated a customer-first attitude. During casual conversations, topics such as impressions of other accommodations we had stayed at or suggestions for improving this accommodation came up, reflecting their passion for improvement and love for their establishment. The satisfaction level was very high, and I am considering revisiting. I'm looking forward to experiencing views from different rooms or seasonal menus on my next visit.

    We enjoyed an extraordinary experience.

Staying at this cultural heritage accommodation was a unique and extraordinary experience. The property is full of attractions, and I didn’t feel the need to step outside from check-in to check-out. The cultural heritage tour within the premises was excellent, and both the daytime garden views and nighttime illuminations were breathtaking. The food was delicious, and all the staff were very kind. The room was clean, well-maintained, and comfortable to stay in. Although the washroom space is slightly compact, it’s acceptable for this price range. This accommodation is highly recommended for travel enthusiasts to experience at least once!

At Ohana, you can enjoy the charm of the club floor and delicious cuisine showcasing the craftsmanship unique to a traditional Japanese restaurant. Additionally, private kotatsu boat rentals and the opportunity to appreciate historical cultural properties make this accommodation truly exceptional and one-of-a-kind. It’s a place worth visiting in every season. I will definitely stay here again.

We hope it continues for 100 years.

Truly exceptional, beyond words. Preserving this cultural heritage Ryokan must be an immense challenge, but it is undoubtedly a treasure of Japan. Even if the price were doubled, it would still be worth it, though it's frustrating to think it might attract only inbound tourists. This was such an extraordinary experience that I feel inspired to support it even more. Thank you very much!

    A facility with hospitality

The hospitality of the staff is excellent. However, as there are many young employees, some may lack experience. The meals are above average, but there is room for improvement in dishes like appetizers and sashimi. Although there is no Onsen or large communal bath, it is a very good accommodation. We look forward to further improvements in the meals.

    I had a relaxing stay.

I traveled alone to Fukuoka for the first time. I found an accommodation on IKYU, and honestly, I had a much more enjoyable stay than I expected. The staff maintained a perfect balance of attentiveness—neither too close nor too distant—and their kindness was evident. At night, I spent some quiet time in the large hall, which was very relaxing. The property is spacious, and although there were shops along the way from the station, it felt so peaceful and serene as if there was nothing around. The food was delicious, and the view from my room was stunningly beautiful. I felt like a princess during my stay. I would love to visit Yanagawa again to stay at Ohana!
