    Meals at Karamatsu

    We dined at “Karamatsu” and ordered the Kurobe Wagyu filet steak course on two consecutive days. In conclusion, we were served exactly the same dishes both days. Despite charging such high prices, offering no menu variation at all for a Multiple Night Stay is simply unacceptable service for a top-tier Hotel. We stay at Karuizawa Prince West every year, but this year our vacation was disappointing.

    A refreshing Hotel surrounded by greenery

    The Hotel lobby, guest rooms, and long corridors were all spotless. Maple trees are planted by the open-air Onsen bath, and I would like to return during the autumn foliage season. After the Onsen, we toasted with well-chilled beer bought at the convenience store inside the Hotel.

    In any case, it’s extremely convenient!

    Close to the station, with an outlet mall just nearby, so the location is very convenient. Also, since we have children, we signed up for Picchio’s animal tour and insect tour within the Hotel and joined in. The guide explained everything carefully, and we enjoyed it a lot, so I highly recommend it. The Hotel grounds are vast, and shuttle buses run until late between Karuizawa Prince West, Animal, Hot Spring, and the outlet mall, which was very convenient. We woke up early and took a walk around the Hotel grounds. The fresh air was wonderful, and the sun filtering through the trees was truly soothing. The Onsen was great as well, and above all, all of the staff were very kind and pleasant—it really felt like they are well trained. I will definitely stay at this Hotel again.

    The outlet shopping was easy to enjoy.

    The Hotel was spacious and had a great open feel. The breakfast restaurant also felt upscale, was roomy, and had a nice view, so it was very relaxing. However, since this was my first stay here, when I asked at check-in where the large public bath was located, I was told—but it would have been helpful to be informed without having to ask. I also would have appreciated being told the bathing hours at that time. I would have been grateful for a bit more explanation about the in-house Facilities as well. When going to the outlet on the property, the shuttle bus was very convenient, and my mother—who uses a cane—was able to enjoy browsing the outlet without getting tired on the way there or back, which made it very comfortable.

    It was a relaxing space. The breakfast offered a wide variety of options, and I was very satisfied. The staff were kind and helpful, so I could unwind without any stress. I would like to stay here again.

    A Lodge in the Mountains

    I didn’t expect much from the cottage and assumed it would be a simple Accommodation, but it was spacious, clean, and surrounded by nature. We also received proper Hotel-level service. The Shuttle Service ran frequently, so getting around the cottage area was easy and stress-free. We used both the Chinese restaurant in the Hotel building and the Onsen Facility, and both were excellent. All the staff were attentive and provided consistently reliable service—just what you’d expect from Prince Hotel. I’d love to visit again, and next time I’d like to stay in the Hotel building as well.

    The hospitality is outstanding.

    By evaluation item Accommodation: West Premium Twin 1) Room, amenities The room was spacious enough, but having to slide out the door each time to use it as a changing area was a bit of a hassle. Also, the entrance door and the closet door interfered with each other, so it felt a little cramped when multiple people were coming and going. The in-room flow/layout was slightly inconvenient. 2) Hospitality & service All staff were polite and left a very good impression. However, I wish the meal Reservation system could be improved a bit more. 3) Onsen / bath The in-room bath was sufficient on its own, but since there was also an Onsen, I used both. The Onsen felt slightly underwhelming, but if the concept is to relax slowly, it was more than adequate. 4) Facility & equipment My child enjoyed it more than expected—the play forest and the park inside the outlet mall. If there were a large indoor kids’ play area in the Hotel that is free for guests (as is common these days), it would be even better. 5) Meals I may have set my expectations too high, but overall I think it was satisfying. That said, breakfast felt like it lacked one standout “must-have” item—just slightly. 6) Overall satisfaction In terms of value for money, I’m not sure. It’s not that anything was bad; rather, if I’m paying about the same amount, I’d like to try another Hotel as well. It didn’t quite make me feel “I’ll definitely stay here again” right away—though this isn’t meant as a complaint.

    I was able to relax and feel refreshed.

    We stayed at the West several times in a cottage when our child was younger, but this was our first time staying in the Hotel building. The interior was clean, and although we reserved a standard room, we were very satisfied. Directions to various facilities were projected onto the floor with lights from the ceiling, so it was easy to get around without much confusion. It was a relaxing trip for just my husband and me, and we felt refreshed.

    Mega Outlet

    Adjacent to a shopping plaza and within walking distance. Beautifully illuminated until 8:00 PM. The Room is also quiet. You can use the parking ticket like a pass, so you can enter and exit multiple times. Good

    Satisfied

    The Hotel has been renovated since my stay a long time ago, and I had a very pleasant time. It was clean, quiet, and close to the spa—very satisfying overall. I plan to make a Reservation again next time.

    A Hotel I Want to Visit Again

    This was my second stay. Last time, I was upgraded and loved it so much that I requested this Room for this visit. Since it was the rainy season and the Room was on the first floor, I understand it can’t be helped, but as soon as I entered there was a musty mold smell. I thought opening the window would clear it up, but the odor never went away until I left. I have a mold allergy, so my runny nose wouldn’t stop and it was really tough. I mentioned this to a female staff member at check-out. She apologized politely and said they would improve their cleaning, but she also seemed obviously bothered (lol). That said, everything else was excellent. Because I know how wonderful my previous Room was, I’m planning to stay again. However, if the next Room also smells musty, I think I’ll ask to change Rooms.

    This was my first time in Karuizawa. I’m truly glad we stayed here—having just returned home, I already want to go back again. I can’t stop thinking about when I should go next and when I’ll be able to visit again.

    The best value for a relaxing stay

    Accommodation in Karuizawa is very expensive, so I chose this Hotel! Since it’s an older Hotel, I didn’t expect much in terms of cleanliness, but it was quite clean and I was very satisfied. The bath area is very spacious and clean, with a sauna and an open-air bath as well. Even when there are many guests, it doesn’t feel crowded, and there are always staff at the front desk who respond right away! Also, besides pajamas, you can wear the provided loungewear anywhere inside the building, so you can pack lighter! For breakfast I wanted something a bit more luxurious, so I went to The Prince for their morning buffet. There is also a free shuttle bus service, and the staff kindly explained everything to me, so boarding was smooth. It was a wonderful Hotel where I could spend an elegant stay from check-in to check-out!

    Wedding Anniversary

    We stayed here for our wedding anniversary and a golf trip. It was a renovated twin Room with a balcony, very spacious, with tasteful interior design, and we had a very comfortable stay. We were also able to use the large public bath, which helped relieve our fatigue from golf, and we slept soundly. We chose the breakfast-included Plan and used the buffet; there was a wide variety of options and everything was delicious. However, the Room was very far from the front desk, and since you have to pass through many doors like a maze, I got lost at first (lol). The large public bath is very close to the Room, which was helpful. I would like to stay again. Next time I’d like to try dinner as well.

    The Facility is very...

    The Facility is very large, and getting around is extremely inconvenient. When going out, you have to walk from the cottage to the bus stop, wait for the shuttle bus, go to the parking lot, and then leave; on the way back it’s the reverse. In the end we gave up on dining out and had to order delivery from Pizzala. Moreover, Pizzala is the only delivery option—there are no other choices. In one of the four in-Room bathrooms there was no hot water, and in some Rooms the air conditioner had been left running. It felt like Room management was not properly handled. The staff were good. You need to be prepared before staying here.

    Highly satisfied

    We stayed in a Deluxe Twin as a family of four. It wasn’t very spacious for four people, but the distance between us felt just right, and we had lots to talk about—making it a really enjoyable trip.\n\nThe dinner and breakfast buffet offered a wide variety of dishes, everything tasted great, and the service was more than sufficient. There were so many options that there were still dishes I wanted to try more of, but even with small portions we ended up completely full and very satisfied.\n\nThe Hotel staff were extremely attentive; whenever we needed anything, they spoke to us right away, so we never felt unsure about anything.\n\nThe Onsen lived up to its reputation—the quality was excellent. The open-air bath had a wonderful atmosphere, it wasn’t overly crowded, and we could truly relax.\n\nIf I had to mention one thing, it would be the route and distance to the guest room. Perhaps because tall buildings can’t be built there, the path has many winding turns and corners; it would have been nicer if it were a bit closer.\n\nOverall, though, we were extremely satisfied—my family even said they’d like to stay for about a week. Thank you very much.

    A wonderful Hotel surrounded by nature

    My favorite Hotel for the first time in three years. Once again, it was fun, comfortable, and absolutely wonderful. To all the staff… As always, you were kind and pleasant, and your attentiveness was outstanding—truly impressive. Everywhere in the Hotel was clean and beautiful, with a spacious, relaxing design… The tasteful use of wood was really nice. The Room was also large, spotless, and very comfortable. On the terrace, I enjoyed coffee at a leisurely pace and had an amazing time. The Onsen was clean and lovely—absolutely the best. We had breakfast at Karamatsu. Unlike last time, it felt more like a kaiseki-style meal. The rice cooked in a traditional kamado stove was exquisite. The handmade tofu was also fantastic. Everything was truly delicious—thank you for the wonderful meal. Thank you as well for accommodating my requests again this time. Thanks to you, it became a fun and relaxing trip—such a wonderful and perfect vacation—and I’m full of gratitude. Thank you very much. It’s truly a lovely and exceptional Hotel that I absolutely adore. I will definitely come again.

    Terrible Cottage Shuttle Service Response

    I requested a Shuttle Service from the cottage at check-out for a companion who uses a cane, but it did not arrive 15 minutes after the promised time. It finally arrived 40 minutes later, only after I called four times to follow up. It seems our request was forgotten, we lost valuable time in the morning, and we almost missed our bullet train.

    We stayed here with our two children, aged 2 and 6.

    I stayed for two nights and three days. This Hotel was not suitable for families with children, especially infants. Although there is a clean large public bath, diapers are not allowed, so we couldn’t use it. The in-room bath (I’m not sure if this applies to every Room) was just a standard bathtub. When I asked the front desk about parking, they replied, “How many nights?” I didn’t understand why they asked about the length of stay when I was asking about parking, and there was no further explanation. It may be something obvious to them, but I would have appreciated a clear explanation. We used the breakfast buffet, and when I requested a high chair for my child, the staff member seemed irritated and silently placed the chair down and walked away. Later I saw that person repeatedly refilling drinks, so maybe it wasn’t their usual role—but I still didn’t understand why they reacted that way. That said, other staff members were considerate—for example, arranging things within my child’s reach—and their kind words and greetings were appreciated. It felt like service depended on each individual’s personality. There were many wonderful staff members, but even without an exceptionally high level of service overall, consistent hospitality would feel more reassuring. I probably won’t stay again.

    A Hotel with Poor Value for Money

    It’s a positive point that the shuttle bus service has improved and there are fewer issues. However, since the Accommodation Fee rises significantly during the Lunar New Year period, it’s hard not to feel that the value for money is low. Many other Hotels provide amenities such as lotion, facial cleanser, and face masks, but there were none at all in the West Wing. Also, was the tissue supply in the Room intentionally kept low? It ran out after just a few sheets….

    Staying at Karuizawa Prince for the first time in 20 years

    Just as everyone’s Reviews said, the meals were delicious and we were very satisfied! We appreciated having both loungewear and a bag to take to the bath. However, the lobby and hallways on the way from the Room to the bath were cold, which was tough for an older person. The Room outlets, amenities, and Facilities were just right, but we couldn’t shake the impression that the accommodation rate has gone up—whether due to inbound pricing or inflation.

    Ski Trip

    We stayed here on a ski trip with our children. As it was peak season, prices for meals and other services were on the higher side, but the Facility was well equipped and we had a comfortable stay. We would like to stay again.

    A lively, large-scale Hotel for families

    What was good - Convenient location close to the outlet mall. - The shuttle bus service was also convenient. - The Room was spacious enough for three adults. - The Room was clean and comfortable. - The staff were kind and helpful. - There was an attendant at the spa (large public bath), and they checked the room key upon entry, which made us feel secure. What was disappointing - Since it was the peak New Year period, it couldn’t be helped, but baggage storage and check-in took a very long time. → Check-out was smooth because we could settle the bill in advance. - It was very lively, so we couldn’t really relax anywhere except in our Room. - The changing area at the large public bath felt a bit cold. - Restaurant Reservation was a bit difficult. → We had an Accommodation Reservation that included a dinner course, but we felt uneasy many times when trying to make a restaurant Reservation online. In hindsight, reserving seats only would have been better, but clearer details on how to book would have been reassuring. - It would have been helpful if the dinner and breakfast Reservation times were written on something like the card key holder. - Although the Facility is large, there is only one convenience store near the entrance, which was inconvenient. It may depend on when you stay, but it’s a very lively Hotel with many families. The grounds are so large that we almost got lost.

    Far from the front desk.

    The shuttle bus took us to the cottage, but it was far and took a long time, and even with a Reservation we still had to wait about 20 minutes, which was frustrating. Everything took time. The Room was larger than the one we had reserved, and the kids were happy about that. Thank you.

    Have the breakfast options decreased?

    I have stayed here several times, and it seems to me that the breakfast selection has decreased. Am I mistaken? Also, once again, I wondered if something could be done about how cold the large public bath area is and how low the sauna temperature is set.
