    A hotel I’d like to stay at again

    This was my second stay. We stayed in a Deluxe Twin room with a terrace, close to the spa, and we could even see the autumn leaves from the window—making our stay very comfortable. If you’re staying mainly for golf or outlet shopping, this place is perfect. Next time, I plan to stay for multiple nights.

    West offers the best convenience.

    We stayed at West to play two rounds at 72. The delicious breakfast, relaxing hot springs, and shuttle service to 72 made West incredibly convenient. On the last day, we missed the 72 shuttle bus and couldn’t catch it. It seemed impossible to make our tee time. When we asked the front desk, they quickly drove us there and we made it in time. We’re truly grateful. The only reason for one less star is that the room air conditioning is centrally controlled, so we couldn’t set it to our preferred temperature. It was uncomfortably hot and we couldn’t sleep well at night—disappointing.

    Wooden Cabin (6-Person Room)

    We called the shuttle bus from the cabin to the main building, and it was prompt and courteous—truly the level of service you’d expect from Prince. We were very pleased, and the staff were excellent as well.

    Anticipation as a former Prince fan

    I stayed multiple nights and used the parking lot only at check-in and check-out. I hope it will be free again as before. Below are my additional requests. With more competing hotels in the area, I have high expectations for the long-established Prince brand. 1) Please operate a shuttle from near the Karuizawa Station exit. It was difficult to walk toward the outlet side. I gave up walking and had to take a taxi, which cost JPY 1,200. 2) The disposable razor is painful on the jaw compared with other hotels in Karuizawa. I hope this will be improved. 3) When I was lost trying to find my room, being told “Please follow the route projected on the carpet” felt unhelpful. 4) At checkout, all three staff members were assisting other guests. Please be more considerate of guests with limited mobility. Overall, as this is a Prince Hotel, I expect further improvement in basic staff training. Thank you for your efforts. I do not want an AI-generated reply.

    It was disappointing.

    I booked this Hotel because of its great location and because it’s a Prince Hotel, even though the price was a bit high. However, there were many issues: the bath was far from the Room; although I chose a Plan with breakfast included, I was told at reception that breakfast was not included on the second day; there was very little fruit at breakfast; only coffee was available and it wasn’t good; and on the second day, the TV remote in my Room went missing. With so many problems, I will definitely not stay here again when I visit Karuizawa next time.

    It was very good, but...

    We stayed in a cottage. There was a Shuttle Service to the front desk, and we enjoyed a different atmosphere from a typical Hotel. The driver’s attentiveness was excellent, and it was very nice. However, it would have been helpful if there had been written instructions somewhere on how to use the cottage bathroom shower.

    Relax as you always do.

    Having stayed many times over the past 40+ years at Karuizawa Prince Hotel’s East, South, and West Wings, I don’t have any new impressions to add. The staff are pleasantly friendly yet courteous, and the seasoning of the meals suits us perfectly, so we can stay with peace of mind. However, the bath in the West Cottage doesn’t really feel set up for washing inside the tub only, so we would appreciate it if you could provide a small shower chair and a wash bucket. Also, I remember that cottages used to have one or two simple games available; they don’t seem to be there anymore, so we would be happy if you could bring them back.

    There is no vending machine or ice maker. The convenience store closes at 11:00 PM, so you can’t buy drinks after that. Other than that, everything was perfect.

    Families with infants and children will find it highly satisfying.

    We stayed at the West Cottage. Even with three families and two toddlers, we were able to relax and enjoy ourselves inside the cottage without worrying about disturbing others. The Shuttle Service to the cottage after check-in and the Shuttle Service at check-out were a huge help. The meals felt sufficient overall, but there were few options that toddlers could eat, which was a bit disappointing—though I understand it may not be necessary to provide that much. This may be unavoidable, but the cottage bathtub was small, which was inconvenient when traveling with toddlers.

    The bathroom is far away.

    The breakfast was very luxurious, with a wide variety of delicious options. The Room was also comfortable for sleeping. However, the bath area was surprisingly far away, and it’s easy to get lost.

    Cottage Accommodation

    The location was convenient, within walking distance of the golf course, and we enjoyed a tasty breakfast in a spacious dining area. Since cars are not allowed on the property, they provide a loop bus and Shuttle Service from the lobby to the cottages (the staff were kind), but it was a bit stressful not being able to head out quickly whether going to the bath or out for dinner. The cottage itself—and the Facility—felt quite old. There were few power outlets, and there was a large stain on the dressing table chair... It was my mistake not to check how old it was, but I had been looking forward to it, so it was disappointing...

    Although my stay was...

    Although my stay was not during the summer holiday season, I repeatedly had unpleasant experiences due to many staff members who seemed inexperienced, like short-term part-time workers. Especially at the restaurant, I was shown to my seat without any friendliness and in a curt manner, and even when I spoke to them they acted as if they could not hear me. Then, despite food still being on the table, they tried to clear it away. They kept removing plates as soon as I finished each one. I left the restaurant without having time to enjoy the afterglow of the meal. I returned because my previous stay (last autumn) was excellent, but overall this time was disappointing. I understand that with more international visitors it can be challenging and responses may vary, but please do not lump everyone together. We did nothing that would cause any trouble for your staff.

    Meals at Karamatsu

    We dined at “Karamatsu” and ordered the Kurobe Wagyu filet steak course on two consecutive days. In conclusion, we were served exactly the same dishes both days. Despite charging such high prices, offering no menu variation at all for a Multiple Night Stay is simply unacceptable service for a top-tier Hotel. We stay at Karuizawa Prince West every year, but this year our vacation was disappointing.

    A refreshing Hotel surrounded by greenery

    The Hotel lobby, guest rooms, and long corridors were all spotless. Maple trees are planted by the open-air Onsen bath, and I would like to return during the autumn foliage season. After the Onsen, we toasted with well-chilled beer bought at the convenience store inside the Hotel.

    In any case, it’s extremely convenient!

    Close to the station, with an outlet mall just nearby, so the location is very convenient. Also, since we have children, we signed up for Picchio’s animal tour and insect tour within the Hotel and joined in. The guide explained everything carefully, and we enjoyed it a lot, so I highly recommend it. The Hotel grounds are vast, and shuttle buses run until late between Karuizawa Prince West, Animal, Hot Spring, and the outlet mall, which was very convenient. We woke up early and took a walk around the Hotel grounds. The fresh air was wonderful, and the sun filtering through the trees was truly soothing. The Onsen was great as well, and above all, all of the staff were very kind and pleasant—it really felt like they are well trained. I will definitely stay at this Hotel again.

    The outlet shopping was easy to enjoy.

    The Hotel was spacious and had a great open feel. The breakfast restaurant also felt upscale, was roomy, and had a nice view, so it was very relaxing. However, since this was my first stay here, when I asked at check-in where the large public bath was located, I was told—but it would have been helpful to be informed without having to ask. I also would have appreciated being told the bathing hours at that time. I would have been grateful for a bit more explanation about the in-house Facilities as well. When going to the outlet on the property, the shuttle bus was very convenient, and my mother—who uses a cane—was able to enjoy browsing the outlet without getting tired on the way there or back, which made it very comfortable.

    It was a relaxing space. The breakfast offered a wide variety of options, and I was very satisfied. The staff were kind and helpful, so I could unwind without any stress. I would like to stay here again.

    A Lodge in the Mountains

    I didn’t expect much from the cottage and assumed it would be a simple Accommodation, but it was spacious, clean, and surrounded by nature. We also received proper Hotel-level service. The Shuttle Service ran frequently, so getting around the cottage area was easy and stress-free. We used both the Chinese restaurant in the Hotel building and the Onsen Facility, and both were excellent. All the staff were attentive and provided consistently reliable service—just what you’d expect from Prince Hotel. I’d love to visit again, and next time I’d like to stay in the Hotel building as well.

    The hospitality is outstanding.

    By evaluation item Accommodation: West Premium Twin 1) Room, amenities The room was spacious enough, but having to slide out the door each time to use it as a changing area was a bit of a hassle. Also, the entrance door and the closet door interfered with each other, so it felt a little cramped when multiple people were coming and going. The in-room flow/layout was slightly inconvenient. 2) Hospitality & service All staff were polite and left a very good impression. However, I wish the meal Reservation system could be improved a bit more. 3) Onsen / bath The in-room bath was sufficient on its own, but since there was also an Onsen, I used both. The Onsen felt slightly underwhelming, but if the concept is to relax slowly, it was more than adequate. 4) Facility & equipment My child enjoyed it more than expected—the play forest and the park inside the outlet mall. If there were a large indoor kids’ play area in the Hotel that is free for guests (as is common these days), it would be even better. 5) Meals I may have set my expectations too high, but overall I think it was satisfying. That said, breakfast felt like it lacked one standout “must-have” item—just slightly. 6) Overall satisfaction In terms of value for money, I’m not sure. It’s not that anything was bad; rather, if I’m paying about the same amount, I’d like to try another Hotel as well. It didn’t quite make me feel “I’ll definitely stay here again” right away—though this isn’t meant as a complaint.

    I was able to relax and feel refreshed.

    We stayed at the West several times in a cottage when our child was younger, but this was our first time staying in the Hotel building. The interior was clean, and although we reserved a standard room, we were very satisfied. Directions to various facilities were projected onto the floor with lights from the ceiling, so it was easy to get around without much confusion. It was a relaxing trip for just my husband and me, and we felt refreshed.

    Mega Outlet

    Adjacent to a shopping plaza and within walking distance. Beautifully illuminated until 8:00 PM. The Room is also quiet. You can use the parking ticket like a pass, so you can enter and exit multiple times. Good

    Satisfied

    The Hotel has been renovated since my stay a long time ago, and I had a very pleasant time. It was clean, quiet, and close to the spa—very satisfying overall. I plan to make a Reservation again next time.

    A Hotel I Want to Visit Again

    This was my second stay. Last time, I was upgraded and loved it so much that I requested this Room for this visit. Since it was the rainy season and the Room was on the first floor, I understand it can’t be helped, but as soon as I entered there was a musty mold smell. I thought opening the window would clear it up, but the odor never went away until I left. I have a mold allergy, so my runny nose wouldn’t stop and it was really tough. I mentioned this to a female staff member at check-out. She apologized politely and said they would improve their cleaning, but she also seemed obviously bothered (lol). That said, everything else was excellent. Because I know how wonderful my previous Room was, I’m planning to stay again. However, if the next Room also smells musty, I think I’ll ask to change Rooms.

    I can’t wait to go again as soon as tomorrow.

    This was my first time in Karuizawa. I’m truly glad we stayed here—having just returned home, I already want to go back again. I can’t stop thinking about when I should go next and when I’ll be able to visit again.

    The best value for a relaxing stay

    Accommodation in Karuizawa is very expensive, so I chose this Hotel! Since it’s an older Hotel, I didn’t expect much in terms of cleanliness, but it was quite clean and I was very satisfied. The bath area is very spacious and clean, with a sauna and an open-air bath as well. Even when there are many guests, it doesn’t feel crowded, and there are always staff at the front desk who respond right away! Also, besides pajamas, you can wear the provided loungewear anywhere inside the building, so you can pack lighter! For breakfast I wanted something a bit more luxurious, so I went to The Prince for their morning buffet. There is also a free shuttle bus service, and the staff kindly explained everything to me, so boarding was smooth. It was a wonderful Hotel where I could spend an elegant stay from check-in to check-out!
