We chose the grilled course for dinner at the restaurant. The portions were so generous we could hardly finish everything. It included appetizers, meat, seafood, grilled vegetables, dessert, and coffee.

    Too many disappointing points.

During the Obon holiday period, I stayed in a Hollywood Twin Room for JPY 83,000 with No Meals Included. I understand that peak-season pricing is part of a pricing strategy, and I made the Reservation accepting that. However, even if it were JPY 30,000 in the off-season, I don’t think I would stay again. Below are the points I found disappointing. ・Facilities Perhaps because the building is on a slope, what is labeled as the first floor of the guestroom building feels more like a mezzanine level from the street. I was surprised that you have to go up stairs from reception just to reach the elevator. I didn’t notice at the time—was there any clear notice about this route during Reservation? The Room itself was spacious enough, which was helpful for a family traveling with lots of luggage. That said, there is a warning sign at the sink saying hot water comes out first and to be careful—this should be fixed rather than posted as a caution. ・Room cleanliness First, although the bathroom has a freestanding bathtub, there was significant mold on the wall behind it. With freestanding tubs, preventing mold buildup is essential; if that cannot be maintained properly, they should not be used. I dropped my glasses into the gap and had to retrieve them—it was an awful experience and not something you expect after paying JPY 80,000+. Also, I’m not sure whether well water is used or whether it’s simply hard water, but there were many visible traces of limescale around wet areas. Dust had accumulated in corners and on/around wooden lattice partitions as well—overall it did not feel like thorough cleaning. ・Breakfast I added breakfast at check-in. If this was also special Obon pricing (JPY 4,300 per adult), it felt quite aggressive—more in line with airline-affiliated hotels where an egg station is often standard at that price point. In reality, it was comparable to what you’d find at a Business Hotel known for breakfast: some local items were available but overall selection was limited and lacked creativity. There were posters promoting Shinshu salmon sashimi; when I went to get some (15 minutes before last order), it had already run out and was never replenished. Frankly speaking, half price would feel more appropriate. There was also no mid-service clearing of used dishes. ・Overall In Karuizawa—where demand fluctuates dramatically throughout the year—it’s understandable that August rates are high. However, delivering peak-season revenue without making guests feel they are being asked to “make up” for annual revenue balance should be part of professional hospitality management. My biggest dissatisfaction this time came from service-related aspects that could be improved by allocating resources; ultimately this seems like an issue of management stance rather than something unavoidable.

    Our Annual Family Trip

Every summer, my family and I come to Karuizawa to spend time together. This was our first stay here. The Hotel features a wonderful interior with marble finishes, impressive stone walls behind the front desk on the first floor, and excellent materials throughout, and everything was kept very clean. Dinner was especially outstanding—the seasonal course using local Nagano ingredients was luxurious and delicious. The staff member in charge of the course service provided attentive, courteous service as well. The live piano performance during dinner was also a rare and very nice touch these days. However, the large public bath has only eight washing stations, so when it gets crowded you may have to wait for one to become available, which was inconvenient. I also noticed that some younger male staff members coming in from outside did not greet guests heading out. Other than that, we had no issues and felt it is a truly lovely Hotel.

The staff are kind and leave a great impression.

The building is old, but the Comfort Twin Room is relatively new and clean. The Room also felt spacious for one person, and I was able to relax comfortably. Housekeeping was thorough. In the past, there were mineral water and amenities in the Room, but it seems they have been discontinued. However, since unused amenities and disposing of plastic bottles are not good for the environment, I think this is a great initiative. There is also a Delicia very close by, so you can simply buy anything you need. I’m happy that the welcome drink service is still the same as before. I arrived a little early, so it was nice to sit in a corner and get about 30 minutes of PC work done while having a drink. Thank you very much. The courtyard is beautifully lit up at night. I love the nearby Karuizawa Bookstore, and it now has a stylish bakery attached. Having Delicia and Karuizawa Bookstore so close by makes this a Hotel I’d love to live at. It’s quite far to walk from the station; on my way back from Old Karuizawa and after checkout I used a taxi, which cost about 1,000 yen, so I recommend taking a taxi.

This was our first stay here on a golf trip to Karuizawa. It’s a small three-story Hotel, and the staff were very friendly and helpful. We stayed in a twin Room, and it was spacious with a mini-kitchen and living area, which was great. We had gelato after our bath, and it was delicious. Our family of three was very satisfied.

I’ve lost count of how many times we’ve stayed here this year. Spending summer in Karuizawa at “Cypress” has become a family tradition. This time as well, we made our Reservation through IKYU, so we were able to enjoy a great deal. I was impressed by how hard the staff worked to provide attentive service despite being short-handed. However, when we took the local bus from the stop near the Hotel to Old Karuizawa, the timetable handed to us at the front desk was outdated, which was disappointing. In Karuizawa, it may be standard to get around by car, and guests who use local buses might be rare.

    Comfortable

The Room was spacious, and the bed was large and very comfortable. Breakfast offered a wide variety of options, and the roast pork was especially delicious. The staff were also very courteous. It would have been even better if there had been a power outlet near the bed to charge my phone. I would like to stay here again.

Overall, we were generally satisfied with our girls’ trip.

Three of us stayed for a girls’ trip, and we were surprised at how spacious the Room was. It was quiet and relaxing. The staff during meals explained everything well, and the other staff were also great—I felt the service overall was excellent. I missed some of the live music at dinner, which was a shame; I would have liked to listen a bit more. Dinner felt like an appropriate amount since we had eaten late lunch and were still full, but I might have liked a little more visual volume on the plate... I was happy that I could choose my own dessert. Since the main dish was filet, I wondered if the appetizer didn’t need to be meat as well. Breakfast was delicious. I’m not sure if it was an energy-saving setting, but after a certain time in the morning the toilet seat in the Room became cold and the bidet function didn’t work. It wasn’t enough to contact anyone about, so I left it as is... It would be nice to have lockers with keys in the changing area of the large public bath. Still, it’s a Hotel I’d like to stay at again if I have another chance—the quiet atmosphere is wonderful.

    Our Vacation Home

I have stayed here many times. The thoughtful staff and the comfortable atmosphere throughout the Hotel make it perfect for an adults-only getaway. There are plenty of great options, including a good-value lunch Plan, welcome drinks from 14:00, a large public bath with sauna, and dinner Plans such as Western cuisine, yakiniku, and teppanyaki. Above all, the breakfast is outstanding. The breakfast menu focuses on local ingredients and is so delicious you may end up eating more than you planned. You can truly enjoy a fulfilling Hotel stay here—highly recommended!! Please relax and unwind at your leisure.

For the first time in 20 years.

Before I married my husband, we stayed here together, and it became a place full of memories for us. This time, I returned for the first time in 20 years with our children and my mother—five of us in total. Dinner was just as delicious as I remembered, and the live piano performance during the meal was wonderful. They even played a song we requested, which was such a lovely touch. The breakfast buffet also had nothing but great options. We came back as a surprise for our children’s birthdays after 20 years away, and we’d love to visit again soon. Thank you for presenting the birthday cake in a surprise style—we truly appreciate it. It became a wonderful memory for all of us.

I’d like to stay here regularly.

We made a Reservation for a suite room for 8 people. One person became ill the day before and could not stay, so we used it with 7 people. With two bedrooms and a Japanese-style room, we were able to relax comfortably. There is a kitchen, and you can borrow knives, plates, and frying pans at the front desk, so you can cook simple meals. Breakfast is buffet-style. The smoothies, miso soup, and Mikado Coffee were delicious. The washroom is a bit old, but it was well cleaned and that was great!

    Long time no see.

I stayed here for the first time in several years. The dinner course I had again after a long time was very delicious. It felt a bit more Japanese-style than before—has the chef changed since my last visit? I remember the large public bath used to be a carbonated spring, so I would love to see it brought back. The Room was also very comfortable. However, it was disappointing that the toilet washlet did not have a bidet function.

The Room was very spacious and spotlessly clean. Dinner portions were just right for a 60-year-old woman, and with live music it felt like a truly luxurious time. The only slight disappointment was that I would have appreciated a few more amenities at the in-room sink and in the large public bath. Overall, the hospitality and service were excellent, and I would definitely like to visit again if I have the chance.

Enjoy a leisurely meal accompanied by gorgeous live piano music.

We were treated to two kinds of locally produced wine. In a relaxed atmosphere, the live piano performance was exceptional. They even took requests, and we were delighted to hear our favorite memorable songs. The meal service was perfectly timed, the food was delicious, and we had a wonderful time.

The outlet mall is nearby and convenient.

The outlet mall is nearby and convenient. The welcome drink corner becomes the dinner venue, so it is available only until 5:00 PM. The selection is limited; it would be nice to have items like chocolate. The Room was spacious and relaxing. The breakfast buffet was average, comparable to a Business Hotel. The in-room refrigerator was empty, and unlike other Hotels I booked recently through IKYU, there was no complimentary mineral water. When I asked at check-out, I was first told that this Hotel does not provide free mineral water. However, I had seen mineral water placed on a towel in the basket outside the Room door, so I mentioned that. They then explained that it is provided only for guests on a Multiple Night Stay.

    The best Hotel!!

Both the Hotel and the staff can be summed up in one word: wonderful. The welcome drinks are plentiful, the lounge is very comfortable, the Room is spacious and spotless, and the large public bath and restaurant facilities are excellent. Whenever I stay at this Hotel, I make a point of enjoying the full hotel experience. When the staff notice guests carrying large luggage on their way to their Room, they quickly come over to help. The restaurant staff are especially impressive for their friendly approachability and great communication skills. Both dinner and breakfast offer a wide variety of dishes, and I am truly satisfied every time!! There are many Hotels in Karuizawa, but I would definitely love to visit Hotel Cypress again. To all the staff members—thank you very much for everything; we truly appreciated your help.

    Conveniently Located Hotel

Located about 1 km west of Karuizawa Station and just off National Route 18, this Hotel is very convenient, with a supermarket nearby. The building itself is a bit old, but it is well cleaned and feels very tidy. The Room we stayed in was spacious and came with a mini-kitchen, making our stay comfortable.

Use of Room 102 with an open-air bath included

We hadn’t made a Reservation for dinner, but we were able to request a same-day dinner Reservation, which was a huge help. We also had our 18-month-old grandchild with us, and they offered a kids’ menu, so we were truly satisfied. Enjoying a course meal while listening to live music was an unexpected treat and became a wonderful memory. To keep our grandchild entertained, they even prepared an Anpanman plush toy and Shimajiro hand-play toys at the table, which delighted them. The Room was spacious enough for running around without any worries. The open-air bath temperature was just right, and we could relax comfortably. It was a lovely Hotel with attentive and thoughtful staff throughout. We would definitely like to stay again.

Thank you for your continued support this year.

We welcomed the New Year at this Hotel again in 2026. I know the Hotel layout by heart now (lol). We had a very comfortable stay. It’s a great Hotel for anyone who wants to watch the Hakone Marathon on TV, go snowboarding, or shop at the outlet—everyone can enjoy it in their own way. The meals were delicious again this time. It was a bit disappointing that the carved roast beef has been replaced with plated servings, but with prices rising everywhere, it can’t be helped. Still, the different curries at each meal were all very tasty. I think this every time: Mikado Coffee is great, but Cypress Coffee is exceptionally good! I should have said hello to the Hotel staff who always take care of us. They weren’t there in the morning—sorry. This time we also visited Kyu-Karuizawa and Harunire Terrace. The morning of the 2nd was perfectly clear, with a crisp, pleasant cold. More shops were open than I expected, and there were lots of people. Then it started snowing in the afternoon. Last year it didn’t snow at all, but this time there was accumulation, so winter tires are definitely necessary. There are a few spots with dangerous road conditions before you reach the expressway on the way home, so even though Karuizawa is known for relatively little snow, I strongly recommend using snow tires. I’d like to stay at this Hotel again for my next trip to Karuizawa.

The organization is not acting in the best interest of the customers.

There were many disappointing aspects. For example, I chose this accommodation to enjoy skiing, but when I contacted them in advance, the response felt bothersome. Upon arrival, there were many restrictions like "this can't be done" or "that can't be done." Large luggage had to be carried up the stairs by guests themselves. Construction work was ongoing, and opening the window resulted in direct eye contact with workers. At check-in, no information was provided about room cleaning; later I found out it wouldn't be done unless requested in advance. When I called about breakfast due to crowding concerns, they said it would be fine if I went immediately. However, upon arriving at the dining area, entry was not allowed and I was told to wait in my room until further notice after calling again. Not highly recommended.

    Stayed for winter skiing.

First of all, the staff's service was excellent. We had a lot of luggage, but they helped us carry it with a smile throughout. The hotel itself has a slightly aged feel, but it was very clean and well-maintained. The room we stayed in had a kitchen, which is very convenient for trips with children or elderly family members when you don't want to eat out. Having a supermarket right next door was also helpful. Breakfast used local ingredients and was delicious. The ski resort was only about 5-6 minutes away by car, making the location very convenient.

If you’re only looking for a place to sleep…

I stayed for two nights. The Room was spacious and comfortable. Some staff were polite, but others were disappointing. I felt I was being brushed off because I am young, which was very unpleasant. Breakfast had a wide variety of options and was delicious. It was good that I could still use the members-only in-house shop Discount Coupon even after its validity period had passed. Since there is an Onsen, it may be a good Accommodation if you are staying mainly just to sleep.

I stayed here for my daughter's wedding in Karuizawa. The staff were very helpful with early check-in and arranging taxis, which was a great help. The location is about a 10-minute walk to Kumoba Pond, a famous spot for autumn leaves, where I enjoyed a stroll with my wife. Although the hotel has many stairs, it did not cause any inconvenience, and overall it was a highly satisfying trip.

    Relax and fully satisfied!

Within walking distance from the station and also to Kumoba Pond. There is a supermarket and a lovely bookstore nearby. Even the standard Room is very spacious, equipped with a mini kitchen, microwave, and refrigerator/freezer. Plates and other utensils are also available for borrowing. We returned for a break between sightseeing and enjoyed welcome drinks. In addition to coffee, there were smoothies and juices, which were delicious. The large public bath allowed us to relax and unwind at our own pace. The front desk staff were polite and kind. Very satisfied in terms of cost performance as well!
