    Arriving early in the evening, I enjoyed a refreshing bath followed by sparkling wine during happy hour in the lounge while admiring the garden—a truly delightful experience. The purely Japanese-style interior, including the Room, is modern and impeccably clean. The meals offered were seasonal dishes and absolutely delicious.

    I will visit again.

    It was my first stay at Sansuikaku during my trip to Nasu after more than ten years. From the moment we parked the car until check-out, the hospitality was exceptional. It was a stay where I truly felt the spirit of omotenashi. The meals were carefully prepared, delicious, and very satisfying. The onsen had a comfortable temperature and excellent water quality. Sansuikaku is now my go-to accommodation when visiting Nasu! I will definitely return again.

    Chosen as the accommodation for autumn foliage hiking.

    I chose this accommodation for a fall foliage hiking trip to Mount Nasu. It is a cozy and tranquil accommodation with only a few rooms, and the room was very comfortable. I enjoyed the semi-open-air bath in the room multiple times. The meals were all delicious, and I would love to visit again if I have the chance. Thank you for your hospitality!

    Everything was good except for the entrance.

    Seeking relaxation, the moment I arrived at the Accommodation, a masked female receptionist was chatting with another guest for what felt like forever. Even though I was standing there waiting with my luggage, she ignored me and kept me waiting. When she finally finished, she said, “Are you coming in?”—I was honestly speechless. For a moment I wondered why I had come to the Onsen at all; shouldn’t it be “Welcome”? It was the first time in my life that I have experienced such a reception at a Ryokan. After collecting myself, I was shown to my Room by Mr. N, a new male employee, and his service was truly excellent. The younger staff member provided far better hospitality. The meals, bath, and Room were all very good as well. The sommelier in charge explained everything in a way that truly felt professional, allowing me to enjoy my meal calmly and comfortably. Thank you very much. If not for the impression at the entrance, I would have liked to return; however, words carry weight and reflect sensitivity—if that doesn’t align, it’s hard to relax. I believe the entrance is the face of a Ryokan. A warm welcome would help guests feel at ease too.

    Delicious cuisine

    The dishes were all very delicious, but the portions were too large, and I couldn't eat the steak, so my companion had it instead. It was disappointing that the matsutake mushrooms were not domestic, but they were carefully selected. I wish the matsutake mushrooms in the matsutake rice had been shredded. The Onsen was simple and odorless. The mattress was not very comfortable, and it hurt my back. It was unfortunate that there were no men's lotion or aftershave lotion available. The late-night inari sushi service seemed unnecessary as I was already full from dinner. Breakfast was all delicious; I even wanted to buy the dressing to take home! I appreciated being picked up at the parking lot in the rain and having my luggage carried under an umbrella—it really helped!

The staff who served us were very pleasant, which made the meal even more enjoyable. A quiet and serene adult accommodation.     Beyond expectations

    I look forward to traveling with my nephew twice a year, and this time, we were drawn to the autumn scenery of Nasu Highlands and chose Sansuikaku. The location is peaceful, near the Imperial Villa, and the wooden architecture exudes warmth and charm, reflecting the passage of time. The interior design, furniture, and decor were tasteful, and the rooms were equally lovely, comfortable, and clean. My nephew and his partner stayed in a separate room, but each room was delightful. I especially appreciated the fresh flowers arranged in every room. The Onsen was not free-flowing, but there was no chlorine smell, and the large communal bath had an overflow system. The meals were gently seasoned, healthy, delicious, and prepared with care. The staff were all kind, pleasant, and attentive, making the stay truly enjoyable. In conclusion, as described on the website, it was indeed "an ordinary yet extraordinary accommodation." Next time, I’d love to stay in a different room.

    Relaxing Accommodation

    This was my first time staying here. The staff were kind and helpful! The bath in the Room was very relaxing, and I used it multiple times. It would be nice to have a shower cap among the amenities. However, it was a bit disappointing that the futon was harder than expected and uncomfortable. Dinner was beautifully presented and delicious. The portion size was just right, so I could finish everything! Breakfast offered a variety of dishes in small portions, which I enjoyed trying. I had a very relaxing stay overall.

    A luxurious accommodation.

    I stayed for one night and two days with my wife, and it was excellent. While the location is inconvenient without a car, it's worth visiting even if you take a taxi. We stayed in a room with an open-air bath, which was spacious, quiet, functional, and very comfortable. Although it was a Japanese-style room with tatami mats and futons laid out, it could be used like beds in a Western-style room. Dinner was a Japanese course meal that was incredibly delicious, perfectly paired with the sake course. The late-night inari sushi was also delightful. The only downside is that since it's a wooden building, you can hear footsteps from upstairs; however, the guests seemed considerate as there were no loud noises late at night. Additionally, those sensitive to sound might notice the air conditioning noise. Breakfast featured fresh highland vegetables and eggs as its main components—absolutely fantastic! Lastly, the staff's service struck just the right balance and was exceptional. Of course, it comes at a certain price point but is definitely an accommodation I would love to revisit if possible!

    This was my first time staying here. The elegance of the Ryokan, the cleanliness and charm of the Room were truly wonderful. Being welcomed with a cold towel and tea upon arrival was a nice touch that allowed me to relax. I also appreciated the cake and pudding service in the Room, which were very delicious. The bathwater is slightly on the hotter side, so families with children might need to be cautious. For me, it was a very comfortable temperature. The meals were served in private rooms, allowing us to enjoy delicious dishes presented on beautiful tableware at our own pace. If I may suggest one thing: sometimes foreign staff members provide service, so if you prefer Japanese staff, it might be good to mention this in advance. That said, everyone greeted us with lovely smiles and spoke excellent Japanese during their service. While some words they are less confident about may come across softly spoken at times, I hope they continue doing their best! The Ryokan is surrounded by autumn foliage; I would love to visit again during the fall season next time!

    A quiet and secluded hideaway accommodation.

    It was my first stay, and since I arrived by private car, I got a little lost on the way. From check-in onwards, many staff members (including some international staff) assisted me with polite and attentive service. The building is an older structure from the Showa era built on a slope, so there are many stairs and it is not barrier-free. However, it has been beautifully renovated, making for a comfortable stay. The room had an open-air style private bath, was spacious, and thoughtfully designed for comfort. Amenities were well-prepared (except for the absence of a body wash towel). Personally, I would have appreciated having a simple handwashing area inside the toilet and ice water in the room during summer to enjoy late-night baths without hesitation. The private bath temperature was adjusted upon prior request, allowing two people to stretch out their legs comfortably while relaxing together. The meals were delicious with flavors that brought out the best in each ingredient. Since it was an anniversary plan, the balance of taste and portion size of items like drinks and cake served during dinner was perfect—nothing went to waste! The hospitality with flowers and souvenirs was also exceptional. This is an accommodation I would love to visit again if given another opportunity!

    Japanese Modern Accommodation

    The building dates back to the early Showa era, but the interior has been renovated, so it doesn't feel old. It features a unified high-end Japanese modern design. The bedroom had futons, but I personally felt that raising their height would make getting up easier. Both dinner and breakfast were traditional Japanese meals made with fresh local ingredients and were absolutely delicious. The bath was not particularly large but was appropriately sized for the Ryokan's scale, with a Japanese-style design that allowed for a relaxing experience. The staff provided excellent hospitality, making my stay very comfortable. Additionally, I appreciated the quiet atmosphere without noisy inbound tourists (perhaps because there are no foreign language signs). It allowed me to fully enjoy the serene Japanese ambiance. In the audio room, there was a vacuum tube amplifier placed discreetly; as a former enthusiast, I think it could be showcased more prominently!

    Everything was satisfactory.

    A trip with colleagues from my first job after graduation was suddenly planned after 40 years. Without much research, we decided on a cool place with an Onsen and a Ryokan, quickly booking through IKYU.com. We opted for a relaxed journey using public transportation, making it an impromptu trip. However, upon arriving at Sansuikaku, we were amazed by how wonderful the accommodation was. From the decor and meals to the hospitality and overall ambiance, it’s a place that makes you want to visit every season. We paired our meals with alcohol pairings—wine and sake combinations that were truly exceptional. Even the light snacks and late-night treats were carefully selected delicacies that we thoroughly enjoyed. Sansuikaku is located about a 5-minute uphill walk from the "Sansuikaku Iriguchi" bus stop on the local bus route. Enjoy the scent of trees as you make your way there—you’re sure to be satisfied!

    I was able to relax and forget the hustle and bustle of the city.

    The facility has a historical charm with some age, but it has been well-renovated and is not bothersome. The onsen attached to the room was spacious and impressive. Additionally, the meals were very satisfying in both quality and quantity. In the evening, I enjoyed a beer in the salon while being soothed by the sound of cicadas.

    A quiet accommodation surrounded by trees

    I was looking for an accommodation to relax in an onsen. The large room with a private onsen bath using natural hot spring water was amazing. Sunlight filtered through the trees, a gentle breeze came in through the window, and the overflowing hot water made for a luxurious experience all to myself. The meals were served one dish at a time, featuring local ingredients. The yuba and rolled omelet were particularly delicious. The hospitality was excellent, allowing me to enjoy my stay comfortably. Thank you very much! Lastly, I noticed a slight odor from the source water; I hope this can be improved in the future.

    The private bath in the Room was excellent.

    The accommodation we stayed in was a maisonette-type room called "Genpei." The second floor featured a living room and bedroom, while the first floor, accessible via stairs, included a washroom, dressing area, and a luxurious bathroom with 12 tatami mats of space and a large circular cypress wood bathtub. The onsen with free-flowing hot spring water is the same as that of the Nasu Imperial Villa. The food was delicious, and the comfortable atmosphere provided relaxation for both body and mind. However, it was disappointing that the private dining area was not fully enclosed up to the ceiling, allowing conversations from other rooms to be heard clearly, which diminished the experience.

The carefully prepared meals were all elegant and delicious, and the warm breakfast served fresh on the spot was truly touching. While the dim lighting in the onsen creates a calming atmosphere, it can feel slightly inconvenient due to limited visibility. The building has been lovingly preserved despite its age, which is admirable; however, there was some noise and vibration from what seemed to be a boiler or similar equipment that initially surprised us.     An accommodation with satisfying ambiance and meals.

    A favorite accommodation I used many times before COVID. It had been a while since my last visit, but I’m glad I chose it again this time. The staff, including some foreign nationals, were well-trained and dedicated, making my stay very pleasant. The room and bath maintained their wonderful atmosphere as always, allowing me to relax completely. As for the meals—though I hesitate to sound presumptuous—they seemed to have improved in quality. Each dish reflected the season beautifully and was excellent in presentation, aroma, flavoring, and portion size. While some aspects differed from what I had hoped for—such as no longer being able to stroll through the detached area or garden—I understand that times change and accept it as such. I look forward to visiting again!

    A cozy and very lovely accommodation. It was comfortable, and I had a relaxing stay. The meals were great, especially the breakfast. In the shop, local vegetables and strawberries were sold in the morning, and I was able to buy delicious tomatoes. I would love to visit this accommodation again in a different season.

    The Room was very good.

    The room was excellent. Being a historic building, there are some limitations, but that added to its charm. The private onsen in the room was spacious and well-equipped, providing great satisfaction. However, I noticed the showerhead seemed worn out (perhaps time for a replacement). A chair in front of the sink would have been a nice addition. As for meals, perhaps my expectations were high due to another nearby accommodation offering exceptional flavors; the seasoning here felt underwhelming. It was disappointing, though the ingredients themselves were good quality. The complimentary apple juice in the refrigerator was reportedly delicious (I didn’t get to try it as my family drank it all). Unrelated to the accommodation itself, both Docomo and SoftBank signals were almost nonexistent. While WiFi is available in the room, it does not support WPA2/WPA3 security standards, so I couldn’t use it with complete confidence. Since I enjoyed the room so much, opting for no meals and bringing along a bento might be an option—though bringing outside food might not be allowed!

    An accommodation that always feels relaxing no matter how many times you visit.

    This is my second stay. The atmosphere is always calming, and I was glad to stay here again. It’s very accommodating for families with children, and everyone warmly looks out for us, which is very helpful. While it has a traditional feel, it’s clean and beautifully decorated with touches like fresh flowers, making it a wonderful accommodation. I would love to stay here again.

    A tranquil Stays surrounded by trees

    We were blessed with perfect weather and enjoyed a very peaceful stay surrounded by trees. The building seems to have been renovated from a historic structure, featuring Japanese antique furnishings and a clean, refreshing atmosphere. The meals were just the right amount for an elderly couple, and we enjoyed delicious dinners and breakfasts. If we have the opportunity to visit Nasu Highlands again, we would love to stay here once more.

    For young people who love the good old Japan.

    The property itself has a charming atmosphere, and the staff provided service with a spirit of hospitality. I think it's a good property. Good points: - Meals are in a completely private room - The room is spacious - The quality of the spring water is good - Calm atmosphere I feel it is recommended for young people who like the traditional Japanese style property! Areas for improvement: - Please provide shower caps - Please provide facial wash and cleansing products in the large public bath - I honestly couldn't understand what the foreign guide was saying. I would like the guide to be someone more proficient in Japanese. Also, while it is not a problem if you visit with this in mind, the angle of the stairs was very steep. I felt it should be noted in the reservation details. I took my grandmother, and honestly, the moment I saw those stairs, I felt I had made a mistake in choosing the property. I think it is tough for elderly people with weak legs.
