    We recommend.

    We stayed for one night in late December 2024 on the second floor of the Kiri building with three people, including a preschool child. The meals were enjoyable with a rich dashi flavor, and the portions were sufficient. The variety of dishes allowed us to enjoy different tastes. The children's meals were similar to the adults', which satisfied the child as well. My wife was pleased with the warmth and moisture retention after bathing in the Onsen. With multiple baths available, we had a great time, and the paid family bath was large and atmospheric, making it a worthwhile experience. The service was courteous and excellent. Although we seemed to pass by the staff frequently in the hallway, everyone greeted us politely, which was impressive. For the child, the conversation with the Nakai-san was the most memorable part. It is recommended for those who want to spend a quiet holiday.

    Since my accompanyin...

    Since my accompanying friend couldn't stay overnight, we used the property for a day trip. We were able to use a room designated as an important cultural property, and had lunch in a private dining area. Every dish for lunch was visually beautiful and delicious, leaving us very full. The famous bath was also available for private use. The garden still had some beautiful autumn leaves remaining, and the weather was great, so we were very satisfied. It didn't take much time to get there from Tokyo by Shinkansen, so we were able to fully enjoy the day trip. It was my first time using a ryokan for a day trip, but the staff treated us kindly, just like overnight guests, and I was impressed by the hospitality of this long-established ryokan. We had a wonderful time and were very satisfied. I hope to stay overnight next time.

    The first impression

    I was looking forward to visiting this historic Ryokan, but perhaps because I arrived just before the 3 PM check-in time, the person who attended to me immediately had a blank expression and seemed to be in a bad mood, which instantly lowered my spirits. Moreover, when I asked to use the restroom just three minutes before the 3 PM check-in, I was told, "We can't lend it to you," and "Please use the public restroom." I have used numerous Ryokans and Hotels before, but this was the first time I experienced something like this, and I was surprised. After that, the person who attended to me at check-in, the staff member in charge, and other employees I passed in the hallway greeted me with smiles (which I think is normal). The response upon arrival was just too disappointing, so I rated the service strictly with three stars. Also, since I enjoyed several baths, I thought it would be nice to have more complimentary water available.

    A quiet and calming Ryokan with a traditional atmosphere

    As expected from a traditional Ryokan that is a cultural property, it offers a relaxing atmosphere. For Onsen enthusiasts, there are several thoughtfully designed baths, each offering a different luxurious experience. From the bathroom window, you can see the pond, and the koi came to greet us. The Onsen is colorless and has no peculiarities, and the Yukihana no Yu is a semi-open-air bath with a smooth texture, allowing for a leisurely soak. The meals were delicious, with well-balanced seasoning and intricate Japanese cuisine. It's a Ryokan where I'd like to have a Multiple Night Stay, experiencing different seasons.

    A wonderful authentic Ryokan

    I stayed with my wife. We chose Arai Ryokan to experience a traditional Ryokan. It was simply wonderful. I felt the unceasing effort to preserve tradition while adapting to the times. The service, cuisine, Onsen, and above all, the architecture were all excellent, and we would like to make it an annual event for our family. Next time, we will bring books and enjoy a leisurely Multiple Night Stay. Thank you for providing us with such a wonderful time.

    Enjoy the beautiful architecture and traditional Ryokan service.

    The original architecture that utilizes water is truly wonderful. The guest rooms have been renovated and are clean, which is good, but honestly, it doesn't feel like the renovation took advantage of the building's charm, which is a bit disappointing. The corridors are cold, offering an interesting experience of the chilliness of old Japanese architecture. The Japanese-style rooms in the guest rooms are sufficiently warmed by heating appliances, but the area around the bath and toilet was still cold. Strangely, there is no heating equipment in the changing room or washing area of the Onsen, making it extremely cold. With the Onsen temperature being over 42 degrees, I genuinely feel that elderly guests should be particularly cautious. The service, including meals and bedding, is typical of a Ryokan. It suits those who can enjoy that, but not those who dislike it. As others have pointed out, I also think it would be better to change the fact that there is only one hand towel provided in the guest rooms.

    We received a very pleasant service and are extremely satisfied. Nowadays, there are some properties where inexperienced staff provide unsatisfactory service, but here, the staff seem to be well-trained. My friend who came with me was also pleased and mentioned that this is a property they would like to visit again. The food was delicious, and there were various baths to enjoy. Thank you very much. Although it is a historic property, the building is well-maintained, and the autumn garden visible through the glass windows in the corridors was beautiful. We will continue to support you.

    A traditional Ryokan

    I stayed here a few years ago and, as before, booked a room along the river. From the room, you can see the bamboo grove across the way and a nearby small bridge, with trees beautifully halfway through their autumn colors. I remember there used to be a foot bath in front of the room, but it seems to have been renovated and was no longer there, which was a bit disappointing. There are several onsen to enjoy. Personally, I found the semi-open-air onsen beautiful, allowing you to feel the outside air while bathing comfortably. The meals were Japanese cuisine with a focus on fish, perfectly matching the atmosphere of the property. When leaving, I was touched by the thoughtful gesture of having my shoes, which I had left, slightly warmed.

    The best Stays!

    I had always admired this property, and when I finally stayed there, it was even more wonderful than I had imagined. The important cultural property building, the bath, the furnishings, the room, the garden, the koi in the pond, the meals, everything was beautifully harmonized... I was able to relax and heal. I was worried about my elderly mother's feet, but she managed to conquer everything, even the open-air bath and the bath with rugged rocks, saying it was all fine. The large pillars and stones in the bath, the high ceiling, the retro lights, and through the glass, you could see the koi swimming in the garden... I really thought a lot of effort had been put into the design. The room's bath was also beautifully renovated, and since you could get onsen water by turning the faucet, we made use of it. We could also use the private bath, and we were very satisfied with the onsen! The meals were delicate and elegant! Visually beautiful, and the taste brought out the goodness of the ingredients, with each dish carefully prepared. Since there was no meat, it felt gentle on the body, but some might find it lacking... The staff was kind, and my mother was so delighted that she even fed the koi in the pond, returning to her childhood. She said she would like to come again, so I hope to revisit while my mother is still able to move. Thank you very much!

    As expected of a long-established Ryokan

    The building is a cultural property, so there is an old-fashioned feel to its construction, but it is thoroughly cleaned and does not feel old. The bath is also left as it was in the past, skillfully preserving the good old features. The service provided by the staff was excellent, making it a pleasant stay. The meals were delicious, but when we opted for the special kaiseki, additional special dishes were included, which we couldn't finish. It would have been better to upgrade the quality of the ingredients rather than adding extra dishes.

    Third stay

    It was my first stay in eleven years. The property had been renovated, but I felt the charm of the good old days was still present. I enjoyed various new facilities, including the newly installed bath. The food was as delicious as ever, and the rice was particularly praised by everyone. The attendant in charge responded well and took care of us, so we were able to spend our time without any inconvenience. Many foreigners were staying, and it was amusing to see them wearing yukata while many Japanese were in sweatshirts. I rated each aspect 4 points, thinking there might be room for improvement. There are various reviews, but I hope the property continues to make sound judgments and efforts, so we can return with peace of mind to this wonderful onsen ryokan. I look forward to staying again. Thank you to the attendant in charge and all the staff for your various considerations and responses.

    One bath towel at this price?

    At a price of 40,000 yen per person, there was only one bath towel and one face towel per person. Of course, only one yukata as well. Although senbei and mandarins were prepared at night, for some reason, there weren't enough for the number of people? In a room for three, there were 3 mandarins, 2 chocolates, and 1 senbei? It was incomprehensible. Also, overall, the food was not tasty. I wondered if the staff had ever tasted it. It was nice that we could grate and eat a whole fresh wasabi root. Furthermore, the service from the middle-aged staff at the car stop was particularly bad, with a condescending attitude, almost like a yakuza. The service from the room attendant was excellent, though. I felt bad as soon as I arrived. The amenities were even worse. There was only a toothbrush in the room. No comb or hair tie. At this price? I was shocked.
