    We enjoyed the Onsen...

    We enjoyed the Onsen during our trip as an elderly couple. The meals were delicious, and the staff was kind, allowing us to have a pleasant time. However, the facility was too spacious, making it difficult for us to move around.

    We had a wonderful time.

    We stayed at this accommodation to celebrate my mother-in-law's 88th birthday. While the building felt a bit old, the spacious room with a great view was clean and very comfortable. The welcome drink service had extended hours, and it was very convenient to access the stone-paved street through the hotel. The meals were creative Japanese cuisine, beautifully presented, and delicious. We were able to celebrate her 88th birthday in a private room at our own pace. The staff member in charge was attentive and very kind. If I had to mention one downside, it would be that the bath towels and face towels in the large public bath felt rough, possibly due to not using fabric softener. Still, it was a wonderful accommodation that makes me want to visit again. Thank you for providing us with such an enjoyable time!

    First Time at Ikaho Onsen

    The trip to the famous Onsen was booked, attracted by the advertisement of luxurious private dining and deluxe modern Japanese-style rooms. Since it cost over 30,000 yen per person, we had moderate expectations but were slightly disappointed. The room, though renovated, had a strange smell like tobacco, worn-out fittings, clean yet outdated bathroom facilities, and a dirty trash bin—overall very disappointing. The large public bath and front desk were similarly cluttered and unsanitary. The private dining experience was pleasant with good food and a nice view in a clean environment. However, it felt odd to be served items like spiny lobster or sea urchin in the mountains. Perhaps due to their high cost, portions were small and left us wanting more. We wished for more abundant local ingredients instead. Breakfast lacked a handmade feel; desserts consisted mostly of canned fruits which was disappointing as well. We are grateful to the staff for their bright demeanor and attentive service throughout our stay. It is unfortunate that such excellent hospitality efforts are overshadowed by issues with the Facility as mentioned above. Before anything else though, we realized that rushing to take time off from work led us—my spouse and I—to mistakenly choose a large Hotel when our goal was to relax at an Onsen leisurely. In some ways this is our responsibility too; next time we will clarify our purpose better when selecting an Onsen destination or Hotel suited for us based on this trip's reflections.     Looking forward to the future

    We made a reservation through IKYU.com and stayed with my grandparents, mother, and younger brother. The building has historical charm, but the entrance, lobby, and interior were very clean with touches of traditional Japanese aesthetics throughout. However, the cleanliness of the room left much to be desired. The first room we were shown had visible dust on the desk. Additionally, there were numerous dead insects in the window frame tracks and dust-covered air conditioner frames. It seemed that the dust on the desk was likely spread throughout the room by the air conditioner. When we reported this to reception, they arranged for us to change rooms after dinner. Initially, we thought this might have been an isolated case due to infrequent use of that particular room. However, upon checking into our new room after dinner, we found similar issues: traces of dust and cobwebs on walls as well as significant dust buildup around bathroom plumbing and wiring areas that appeared untouched for days. While the surface of the air conditioner frame had been cleaned in this new room, its interior was still in poor condition. As someone with allergies who reacts easily to such conditions, I felt compelled to call a manager and explain these concerns. While I don’t expect daily cleaning of air conditioners specifically during operation periods at accommodations like this one—cleaning during off-days or scheduled maintenance would go a long way toward ensuring better hygiene standards overall. That said—aside from these issues—we thoroughly enjoyed other aspects such as meals provided alongside high-quality bathing facilities available onsite! One standout experience included private-use bath "Fuwari" offered exclusively via Diamond Member benefits where golden hot spring waters could be appreciated privately within serene settings bringing joy especially among elderly family members present too! Moreover additional amenities like 24-hour accessible spaces featuring hammocks/manga collections added further relaxation opportunities making stays memorable positively overall despite setbacks encountered earlier mentioned above already addressed constructively hopefully improving future guest experiences alike moving forward ahead upcoming peak seasons approaching soon inevitably increasing demand pressures operationally speaking altogether comprehensively considered contextually balanced perspectives shared transparently here today ultimately aiming constructive feedback purposes solely intended genuinely sincerely expressed always foremost foremost foremost foremost foremost foremost forefront forefront forefront forefront forefront

    An accommodation that embodies the spirit of hospitality

    It was my first time visiting Ikaho Onsen. I arrived before check-in time, but I was kindly guided to my room early. The staff member who escorted me to the room left a great impression with their bright personality and excellent communication skills. In the lobby, I enjoyed complimentary plum juice and recommended sweets, which helped me decide on souvenirs to purchase. However, the TV in the room had poor reception—possibly due to a faulty cable or connection issue. Two staff members came to assist but were unable to resolve it. Only Nippon TV had particularly bad reception, and moving the TV slightly caused all channels to stop working entirely. It would be better if such issues were inspected and maintained before guests arrive. The large public bath was wonderful, especially the open-air bath where I could enjoy a clear night sky full of stars. The bath area provided various lotions and skincare products as well as a wide selection of shampoos and conditioners for guests to choose from—a fantastic idea! However, some trial items like lift-up gel sold at the souvenir shop were empty; it would have been nice if these were regularly checked and refilled. The coffee machine in the relaxation area could be improved by offering freshly ground coffee instead of instant options. Dinner was delicious overall, with a rich matcha dessert that stood out as exceptional. The attendant explained each dish carefully, and menus could also be accessed via QR code for convenience; however, providing paper menus for those without smartphones would be considerate. The dining tables were spaced far apart from one another in the venue, allowing quiet conversations without worrying about nearby guests—a thoughtful arrangement. Breakfast was served buffet-style featuring local ingredients that made every dish delightful. Lastly, being able to step out onto an outdoor area midway up from Hotel's 19th floor stairs added an extra charm!

    It was good, but there were some disappointing aspects, especially the breakfast.

    Reserved the Manyokan Forest Room with an open-air bath. I assumed it was Onsen water, but it turned out to be regular heated water. There were no bath salts provided, so bringing your own is a must. Overall, it was good, but here are some points I hope can be improved: - Breakfast: The variety of dishes was limited, with only four types of bread available. There were no live cooking services like egg stations. While guests can serve themselves miso soup and rice, I would prefer live cooking options instead. The miso soup lacked depth in flavor and tasted thin; the small pieces of fried tofu inside had a plastic-like taste. Ingredients for seafood bowls and eel bowls were chopped too finely, giving them an unappetizing texture. The fruit corner next to the yogurt only had canned fruits—fresh fruits would be appreciated. There were no smoothies or fresh juices either; just a drink dispenser similar to those in JAL's Sakura Lounge that dispenses drinks at the push of a button. The only item served in glass carafes was milk. A traditional Japanese set breakfast might have been better given the price paid for staying here—I found myself surprisingly disappointed first thing in the morning. - Of the two large public baths available, one does not have a cold plunge pool at all. Since they alternate between men’s and women’s use daily, male sauna enthusiasts seemed disappointed when using the one without a cold plunge pool. Even where there is one available, it's very small—barely enough space for one adult at a time! Please consider improving this. - The table tennis area (which is just tucked into part of a hallway) had no functioning air conditioning during play—it got so hot we almost felt faint while playing! We called reception asking them to turn on cooling but nothing changed; it remained unbearably warm throughout our game session despite our request being acknowledged by staff earlier on arrival day itself . Playing ping pong after enjoying Onsen facilities should feel refreshing—not stiflingly hot! - During our stay over Sunday-Monday following Japan's long weekend holidays (Sat-Sun-Mon), we noticed late-night dining options within premises closed entirely leaving guests needing alternative arrangements outside property grounds involving descending outdoor stone steps leading towards nearby ramen shops instead which isn’t ideal especially considering extended holiday periods warranting operational adjustments accommodating guest needs better perhaps? In conclusion though overall facilities & services offered remain commendable nonetheless improvements suggested above could elevate experience further significantly enhancing guest satisfaction levels ultimately benefiting everyone involved alike positively impacting future bookings potentially increasing repeat visitor rates organically overtime naturally fostering goodwill reputation-wise     Accommodation with excellent access to the stone steps

    We stayed for one night with my elderly mother and had a wonderful experience. Fukui, located near the top of the famous "Stone Steps" of Ikaho Onsen, offers incredibly convenient access! This alone made it worth staying here. While climbing up and down the steps was challenging for my elderly mother, being able to join the topmost part from such a close distance to the accommodation was remarkable. Although there seemed to be fewer shops than before, the retro Showa-era atmosphere of the stone steps remains a highlight of Ikaho Onsen. The facility is spacious and well-equipped, leaving no room for complaints. The meals were also delicious.

    There were many disappointing aspects.

    This was my first visit, but there were many disappointing aspects, which I will outline below. I request improvements. ① Regarding the parking lot: About three staff members were present for guidance, but no one greeted or directed us. After a while, they simply said it was crowded and asked us to wait. Shouldn't "Welcome" come first? ② The Room assigned had no city view and faced the mountain side—was this because it was an IKYU Reservation? ③ The Room was spacious but plain and uninviting. The TV was also small. ④ I reserved a plan with Joshu Beef Steak included, but it turned out to be just a simple hot plate grill—not worth ordering at all. ⑤ There are two large baths with alternating gender access; however, after trying both, there were no noticeable differences between them. ⑥ While it's convenient that there's an entrance for exploring the Ishidan-gai (stone steps street), the provided vinyl umbrellas had all their frames broken due to rain, leaving me completely soaked. Without improvements in this outdated Showa-era service and Facility quality, I don't think I'll revisit again.

    Please refrain from calling out guests' names loudly in the lobby.

    - The staff member explaining at check-in seemed inexperienced. They couldn't make eye contact and only looked at the PC screen while explaining. I was left standing for a long time as they frequently appeared unsure. - While waiting in the lobby to be shown to my Room, the staff came up and loudly called my name in front of everyone waiting there. It was incredibly embarrassing being watched by almost everyone. Isn't it a Hotel's responsibility to respect guest privacy? - I've stayed at various Ryokans and Hotels, but this is the first time I've encountered a place that completely refuses to accommodate dietary preferences or restrictions with their meals.

    I wanted to see the main entrance.

    I entered from the side with the stone steps. The main entrance visible from the front desk looked spacious and impressive, but I regret not taking a closer look as I left without checking it out. I planned to wash up in the Room's bath before heading to the large public bath, but since it took a long time for hot water to come, possibly due to being far from the boiler, I gave up and washed in the public bath instead. The Onsen was excellent.

    It was amazing!

    The welcome drink and snacks were delightful, the meals were very delicious, and the flowers inside the facility added a nice touch. Having towels available at the Onsen was also fantastic. The only downside was the strong artificial fragrance in the elevator, which was unpleasant every time I used it.

    We stayed at a Ryokan with my elderly parents who traveled from afar. It was their first time visiting Ikaho Onsen, and the convenient access to the stone steps street allowed my parents, despite their mobility issues, to enjoy sightseeing. Considering the price, we were satisfied with both the quantity and quality of the meals. Regarding the facility, I felt that the escalator in the connecting corridor moved a bit too fast. Since there are small children and elderly guests as well, it would be better if it operated at a slower speed or used motion sensors to activate only when needed.

    This was the best Onsen trip ever.

    A friend from abroad came to visit. I heard that Onsen resorts are the best hospitality for foreign tourists, so I used IKYU.com to find a good Hotel. Fukuichi Ryokan in Ikaho Onsen has great Facilities and delicious food; highly recommended.

    Family-friendly

    We stayed as a three-generation family this time. Since we had a child close to 2 years old, we were worried about disturbing others during meals, but families with children were grouped in separate rooms. Additionally, there was a booth in the dining area equipped with toys and picture books, making it very comfortable for us. The room was not crowded with many people, and the play area was within clear view from the dining space, allowing us to enjoy our meals with peace of mind. We were also completely charmed by the robots in the lobby! Tomato-chan and Jasmine-chan worked so hard and were adorable, bringing great joy to our child. The snacks and drinks available in the lobby added to our satisfaction—we didn’t even need to leave the hotel! Thank you for providing such an enjoyable experience.

    Enjoy the Ikaho Onsen Experience

    I stayed here to enjoy Ikaho Onsen. The location is excellent. The Hotel is large, but I noticed mold on the ceilings and walls in older areas, as well as stains on the carpets. I used a private bath, but having to pick up and return the key at the front desk on the first floor was inconvenient due to the long distance. The Onsen felt slightly lukewarm, but it was spacious and relaxing. The meals were delicious, and overall, I was satisfied. I would like to stay here again.

    Monthly Stays at Fukui

    I decided to stay at Fukui in Ikaho this time, with the purpose of going to a farm in Shibukawa to buy strawberries. I have visited Ikaho several times, but this was my first stay at Fukui. I learned about Fukui when I checked out JTB's "Hanayagi/Yuga" properties and stayed there before, but since it had a rating below 4.5 on IKYU, I hadn't stayed until now. This was my first stay, and I understood well why it was chosen as a "Hanayagi/Yuga" property due to its cuisine, building design, and service. February is said to be the month for Fukui, so we stayed at quite an affordable rate. The cost for two people didn't even amount to one person's charge at Kaichoro (Kaichoro). Therefore, I didn't have high expectations initially; however, as mentioned above, considering the balance between price and content, it was very good. The Japanese-style room was spacious with a nice view from the room. The large bath was expansive where we enjoyed both Kogane no Yu (Kogane no Yu) and Hakugin no Yu (Hakugin no Yu) (it was slightly disappointing that the water temperature on our arrival day was lukewarm). For dinner too; there were fresh sashimi options like tuna, amberjack (Kanpachi), flounder (Hirame), sweet shrimp along with delicious sukiyaki meat. The staff including those at reception desk guides meal attendants were all pleasant courteous making me want return again for another stay.

    A property perfect for sightseeing in Ikaho, near the stone steps street.

    Overall, it was a satisfying stay! The drink (alcohol) recommended by the staff during dinner was particularly delicious! I would have appreciated having a paper menu. The facility was a bit old but kept clean! Being close to the stone step street is a big advantage! Thank you to all the staff!

    Very satisfied

    I was a little worried about the lack of Shuttle Service from the station, but from the warm welcome to waiting in the spacious hall without feeling it was long, I could enjoy coffee and snacks while waiting. We were guided to our Room, and hospitality was felt everywhere. The Japanese-style bed was spacious, and with heating working well, it felt comfortable and clean as if the cold outside was a lie. There were two types of baths: golden water and silver water; switching between men and women on different days was also nice. The meals were truly delicious as per the Review. The smile of our attendant was also wonderful. It was great that the souvenir shop stayed open until 10 PM. Being able to access halfway up Ikaho Onsen's (Ikaho Onsen) stone steps added to its charm. It has become a Property I want to visit once a year. Thank you very much.

    Staying for my mother-in-law's 88th birthday celebration

    We stayed at the property to celebrate my mother-in-law's 88th birthday. The kaiseki dinner was very delicious, although I felt the sukiyaki was a bit too salty. Thank you for preparing the special red vest for her 88th birthday celebration. One disappointment was that the hairdryer in the large public bath was a cheap one and it took a long time to dry my hair. I would expect Fukuichi-san to provide top-quality hairdryers as well. That was the only disappointment.

    The spirit of hospitality that was almost forgotten

    The Property was one where the spirit of hospitality was directly conveyed to the guests. The ability to go to the large public bath and soak in the Onsen without bringing anything is a rare advantage. The Room we stayed in was spacious, perhaps a remnant of its group-use design, and it had an unusual but pleasant size. It was also nice that you could go straight to the stair street right after getting off the elevator. One downside was that I noticed a slight smell from the banquet hall for groups downstairs. Also, there is an escalator on the corridor stairs, but since it's only for going up, it would be nice if it could be used for going down with a sensor system. Dinner consisted of kaiseki cuisine with just the right amount and deliciousness, and breakfast was also buffet-style but tasty. It was a Property that helped soothe mental fatigue.

    Choose a reasonable Room

    Thinking it would be nice to have a good room, I reserved a Japanese-Western style room with twin beds at Manyokan. The cost was just under 30,000 yen per person per night. There were several aspects that did not match the cost performance. Room: It was spacious, but the sofa was worn out with age. The bathroom and washbasin were set up like those in a regular household, and there was an unnecessarily large empty refrigerator. It lacked a sense of luxury. The staff explained, "We have prepared futons so that large groups can stay, and we have provided a large refrigerator." This made me realize that my understanding was incorrect. It wasn't a slightly better room, but rather a large room setup. Service: It was like an old large Onsen Hotel. The number of rooms and staff did not seem to match, and the staff appeared to be handling multiple roles, which seemed challenging. They were generally making a sincere effort to provide polite service. However, perhaps due to a shortage of staff, there were no tea snacks in the room. Guests had to help themselves to the various snacks and drinks lined up in the lobby and bring them to their rooms. Breakfast was a buffet. The only pleasing menu item was the seafood bowl. There were no freshly made egg dishes or grilled items, and the dishes were served cold, which was not what one would expect for breakfast at a 30,000 yen property! Dinner was in a private room. Although there was a note at the time of reservation stating, "We do not accommodate food allergies," when I asked the staff at check-in if they could remove any ingredients I absolutely couldn't eat, they stubbornly insisted, "We cannot accommodate that." There was no consideration or consultation. It was the first time I had received such a curt response. It put me in a bad mood at check-in. However, when I went for dinner, the person in charge said, "We have noted the ingredients you dislike. We will try to remove them as much as possible." They really went out of their way to accommodate all the dishes. If the staff at check-in had at least said, "It might be difficult, but we will pass on the message," I wouldn't have felt so bad. Bath: The bath was spacious and pleasant. There were plenty of washbasin booths in the changing room, so there was never a problem with them being occupied. It was nice to be able to try out different hairdryers placed at each booth. However, it was inconvenient that there were no towels for washing during the morning bath. Although I was reassured by the word "kakenagashi" (free-flowing), it was actually a circulated bath with chlorine. Location: The exit on the Senjukaku side faces stone steps, which made it nice to stroll through the stone step street at night.

    My first visit to Ik...

    My first visit to Ikaho Onsen. It was located almost at the top of the 365-step staircase, very close to Ikaho Shrine, and the location was excellent. Overall, it was neither particularly good nor bad, to be honest. I prefer to eat dinner slowly while drinking, but I felt a bit rushed (the entire process took less than an hour and a half). Breakfast was a buffet, and there was someone at the seafood bowl corner who cheerfully called out to us, which was kind and easy to understand, yet not pushy, which was nice.

    Healing by Robots

    The robot at the front desk was soothing and unexpected. There was an issue with the placement of the TV in the Room. The sashimi at dinner was delicious. It would have been nice if the way the teppanyaki meat was cooked had been more creative. The final udon dish was not good. The detailed service regarding the parking lot was excellent.     Room Assigned on Arrival

    I visited without any expectations as it was a leave-it-to-us course for the Room. However, perhaps due to a cancellation, I was guided to a Room beyond my expectations and had a very wonderful and comfortable time. Thank you very much. Previously, when I stayed, breakfast was not a buffet, but there were many varieties and it was delicious. I would like to visit again.

    I had a very comfortable stay.

    The spacious area and attentive service make me want to stay again. I got hooked on the ping-pong table in the hallway and had a lot of fun playing. It was easy to access the famous Ikaho Onsen (Ikaho) steps, and I was able to enjoy a serene sightseeing experience in that space. As for the meals, the sashimi was extremely delicious.

    The service, meals, and bath were all as highly rated in the reviews, and I was very satisfied. The only thing that bothered me was that the room was a bit dim. Especially the entrance and toilet could be a bit brighter. There is some wear and tear over time, but it seemed to be kept very clean, so I think brighter lighting would enhance the sense of cleanliness, apart from the ambiance. Everything else was very good. Especially the service, including the dining area and souvenir shop, was very pleasant. Please convey my appreciation. Thank you for your hospitality.

    It was a good Onsen.

    The large public bath had both golden and silver hot springs, which we thoroughly enjoyed. The open-air bath in the room was also at a perfect temperature. It was mentioned that the temperature of the open-air bath could be adjusted in 0.5-degree increments by informing the front desk. The snow-capped distant mountain range provided a wonderful view from the window of the Stays. We went to Fukui by bus and got off at the Ikaho Harunaguchi bus stop. It would have been helpful to have a sign indicating the directions to the entrance of Fukui in that area. We ended up going up to the stone step street and reached the back entrance, eventually having to take the elevator down to the lobby. It was quite a difference in elevation. Since it was winter, the room became very dry when the heating was turned on. Although there was a humidifying air purifier, the tank ran out of water in the middle of the night due to the extreme dryness. It would have been nice to have a humidifier with a larger water tank (dedicated humidifier). The air in the room was sufficiently clean, making us wonder if the purifier function was necessary. The room cleaning was thorough.

    It is calming.

    The spacious area is beautifully decorated, with ramps on small steps and escalators beside the stairs, making it easy to use. The large Facility provided a quiet and calm atmosphere. Both dinner and breakfast were delicious and very satisfying.

    I fully enjoyed the stone stair street for the first time.

    I used it for the first time because I wanted to visit the stone steps street of Ikaho Onsen. Although the building of this long-established Ryokan is quite old, it is well-maintained, and the Room was spacious, comfortable, and had a sense of cleanliness, which was very good. It had an open-air bath with a nice view of the red autumn leaves, but there was no shower near the open-air bath, so I was a bit hesitant to enter as it was. The dinner was just right in terms of taste and quantity, and I enjoyed various ingredients from the sea and mountains. There were two types of Onsen, and the quality of the spring was very good, but on the night of the stay, there were so many guests that the bath was crowded, and it was a pity that the towels in the changing room were not well organized. When I went first thing in the morning the next day, it was empty, and I was able to fully enjoy the bath. I thought it was a good Stays with a good location and a calm atmosphere where you can enjoy Ikaho. Thank you very much.
